I’ve noticed recently that these link affiliate type of influencers have changed their tactics to get clicks. Normally everything in their posts/stories would be available in their linktree or amazon storefront but more recently they have been telling followers “comment LINK” or something to that effect and they will DM you the link to the products in that post. It’s obvious they are trying to pump up engagement to get pushed out into the main algorithm while disguising it as being personable and friendly like “hey girly I’ll message you the deets myself!!” And then they will add the items to the public storefront days or weeks later
It's also built into every affiliate contract out there
People are really misconstruing what "must-haves" really mean. These are more like "shiny, fun, optional crap" 😂

Flushable wipes destroy toilets and pipes. My upstairs neighbor made our apartment flood because they clogged up the pipes with their tissues. Have a new home and first thing we did was get a bidet. You are right its truly life changing.

Exactly! "Flushable" wipes are never actually flushable...at least not without running the risk of costly and inconvenient plumbing problems. I don't know how they're allowed to market them this way, maybe if your plumbing system is brand new and state of the art, but that's not the norm. A lot of the thick "qulited" toilet paper that we see constant ads for also will cause problems with older pipes.

Those are a nope for those of us with a septic system as well.
The sunscreen applicator is something I own, actually before a lot of influencers started using them. My kids are able to take them to school, which is a requirement here at our school in the uk, but the kids have to be able to put the sunscreen on themselves. It gives me piece of mind that they can do it themselves with minimal supervision. My husband also works outside as a landscaper, so he is also able to put on sunscreen easily without having to use potentially dirty hands. It’s genuinely proved really helpful to my family. No shade, just a different perspective, Love your content!
See in your case you actually found a tool that helped you create a solution to a problem you genuinely had! To me that's not over consumption, that's problem solving and that's actually a reason to invest in one of these gadgets - having an actual need for them. I appreciate your perspective because it's a real life perspective. These people sell us products as though we are aliens trying to imitate real life, and you're showing us a human example of a human need that you were able to solve with something that might not be a necessary product for other people in different situations. Exactly what buying / making a unique tool SHOULD be: INTENTIONAL.
I find a lot of influencer items are like this, where they are super useful to one group of people but are then marketed to a much larger group of people who likely do not need it. For example, many of these items are made specifically for disabled people to meet their specific needs and make their lives easier, but most able-bodied people have no issue in their lives that would be solved with the item. Aside from the waste and overconsumption that is widely discussed in this video and others, marketing these items to an audience that does not really need them drives up the price of the items, causing them to be unattainable for the people who actually need them. Just adding a larger observation to your story :).
I also own the solar buddies - it's so much easier to use and get the suncream on my kids than chasing them and spraying them it then gets WAY messier! My 5 year old can also use it herself. Yes it'll need a clean and top up - but I have to replace suncream every year anyway as it expires after 12 months. I can see the point she's made but I personally find it so useful!!!
@@charliehady6157 Totally agree with you, the sunscreen applicator does have it's uses, but in specific situations mostly, like mentioned before. I would also love to have my palms not dirty with sunscreen after I'm done putting it on - hence why I wash my hands in the sink. Problem solved. Most likely, you can find a way to wash it off at the beach too. You really need a specific situation for it to be useful, and a "generally at the beach" just doesn't cut it
There is nothing wrong with buying products that will make your life better / easier. But videos promoting these items as essentials when it's clearly not essential makes it very easy to over consume especially when stressed, busy e.c.t.
The Sandscreen thingie that removes sand from your body was reviewed by Wirecutter (the NYT consumer column). They tested it against an OLD TUBE SOCK FILLED WITH CORNSTARCH -- which they labelled the "Big Weird Sock" or BWS for short -- and they found that the sock was better.

I've been using cornstarch for years to remove sand from kids, it's so effective.
As a long term beach city resident, all you need to do to remove the sand is to grab another handful of sand and rub it on the area. It will remove all the sand. One of the few problems in the world that solves itself lol
Stanley seems like the adult Barbie. You can't just have the cup, you need the accessories too
At least barbie is good for encouraging play and creativity through imagination (in my opinion), the Stanley is literally JUST A WATER BOTTLE.
literally. And much like there's tons of other dolls you could get, Barbies are so expensive, just like you could get any other water bottle but the Stanley Cup is like $40. It's an elite club.

I’ve had those cameras for years & they’re meant to be installed out of reach, not directly on the door like she shows 😂 (mine are on the roof). They’re magnetic for charging purposes because they’re wireless. But also, they do require installation just like any other cameras (the magnetic piece in the wall lmao)

That sunshield thingy is driving me NUTS because there's no way that will help. There's no reflective side, it's all black. It'll just absorb all that heat.

I do admit to buying a special set of sunsheilds for my jeep for camping...however.... i LOVE these things for lunch at my job too. They have black on one side and silver on the other and i put them in my jeep before i go into work and when i come out for lunch cause ill be damned if i stay in there beinf made to work when someone needs something and its my lunch., it is about 20-25* cooler inside. Plus...i am hidden from folks. Its an anti social persons dream!!!

As a child-care worker who has had to apply sunscreen to 15 toddlers in a row while getting ready to go outside in the summer, I can tell you that sunscreen applicator is an absolute game-changer for us. 😂
Do you have one for each child? Do you have to pour it out at the end of the day? Where I worked we had to have the sunscreen in original packaging labeled with child's name and we had to change gloves between each child. I can't imagine how that wouldn't be a huge health/safety issue.
Where I currently work the children aren’t there as long and our parents just apply it at home, unlike where I used to work and we had to reapply mid day. But if I had that same scenario now, I’d have the parents provide one each child, fill it at home, and send it in with their name on it. Only a “huge health/safety issue” if you’re an incompetent human being and can’t read names 🤷🏼♀️
@laurenwilliams4830 yeah if each child has their own sure. But it's still surprising that they'd allow you to apply something not on original packaging. Idk I guess some places are less concerned about health and safety issues.
Health and safety or fear of being sued on the extremely rare chance that a child gets a rash from the same kind of sunscreen they use at home? I feel like the greater “health and safety” risk is the longer period of time having one less caregiver being able to practice active supervision because they’re too busy hand applying sunscreen to each child and changing gloves in between. At our school we work closely with our DHR representative and ask questions to ensure we’re providing the safest environment possible. It’s a shame there are other centers and schools who provide such sub-par and unsafe care, DHR has to create even more ridiculous rules that slow everyone else down.

I personally feel like the beach bag is a smart purchase. If it gets dirty you can just spray it down vs trying to wash a fabric bag or throwing away a plastic bag when it gets covered in sand or mud.
Plus it’s nice that it stands on its own while holding its shape because then you don’t have to essentially dig it out of the sand. You also don’t need an extra bag for wet clothes/towels because you won’t hurt the bag by just tossing them in there vs the method mentioned of putting the bathing suit in a plastic bag and then into another bag.
The waterproof pocket sounds good for occasions when you’ll be out on the water like on a boat or if you are by the pool and have splash happy kids.
The bag also looks like it will last for a while so you don’t need to collect more grocery bags just to toss them when they get filled with sand so in that sense it’s more sustainable.
I agree! I think one dedicated beach bag for wet items (with a secure pocket to store your phone, cards, and keys to keep them dry) is reasonable.
One of those big plastic reusable bags every store has now would function about the same way
I don't think fabric bags are inconvenient. You need to wash your clothes anyway. I don't think people put their wet clothes in a separate bag to protect the bag? I do that so the other things in the bag don't get wet. So having a plastic bag wouldn't really change the fact that I still need to keep the wet clothes in another bag. The waterproof bag inside sounds nice ig but it looks as big as a regular Ziploc bag. If you want a more sustainable option you can use the reusable versions. The only plus would be the bag doesn't get buried in the sand but since it's open would the bag not end up with a bunch of sand in it anyway. If your bag is on top of the towel you probably also brought to the beach or on the chair you maybe brought to the beach then it won't be buried or if it is it'll be easy to find. Also a fabric bag can be closed so no or at least a lot less sand inside. If you like the aesthetic of the plastic bag that's one thing but I don't really think it's any more convenient than a regular plastic or fabric bag. Even the part where it stays standing. I'd say most reusable plastic grocery bags not the thin bags the thick ones, those usually keep their shape too. Stay standing and it seems like it would be more convenient to carry that then a thick hard plastic handle.
Agree, I think it's overkill if you live somewhere super inland and don't go to the beach very often, but if you're a regular beach goer it really would make life much easier.
I think that stand up beach bag tote would actually be great for sand toys and things like squirt guns or water blasters or those little reusable water ball things. Easy for kids to get stuff out of it and then you shake the sand out you can hose it off. I personally think it sounds great. I don't have a personal need for it, but I can see that people who live near an ocean or a lake or just need to tote water toys around would find that legitimately helpful. Even having that near a home pool or hot tub would be helpful so that water toys could be allowed to dry and air out somewhat in the bag.
The amount of times I almost pressed buy for these items is insane. I have stopped myself and try to think before impulse buying
I swipe as soon as I hear “Amazon must have”. My brain goes “ad - skip!” like you would on any other skipable ad.
I don’t have a problem with impulse buying, my problem comes when it’s time to “go to cart” & “buy”. I have let stuff sit in my cart for up to 4 months & sometimes FORGETTING that I actually have things in the cart.🙄 When I was younger (under 30yrs) I used to buy an outfit to go out THAT night to party because I haven’t done laundry, but when I turned 50 it ALL just became a CHORE for me. At least one thing got better… I DONT spend the money I used to!! 🙂 ✌🏻

If the influencer’s content is nothing but product recommendations or reviews it feels too much like a digital salesman and gives me the ick. So I just started blocking them whenever they pop up on any and all platforms. I also go ahead and block all brands even if I like them or not. I’m just so sick of consumerism and capitalism in general.
For the sand remover, the best thing I found is just applying cornstarch or baby powder to loosen the sand stuck on skin :)

That "pet first aid kit" is literally just a regular first aid but branded as "pet". I found the exact one she promoted and the *only* pet specific thing in it is a first aid guide for dogs. I think that on its own could be helpful, but the rest is just your standard gauze, antisepctic wipes, etc. A regular first aid kit will be exactly the same.

Well, that's disappointing. I was thinking it would have some swaps; things like pet-safe alternatives to Tylenol/acetaminophen, or maybe some styptic powder, since the small bandages you find in a human first aid kit can be hard to apply to minor injuries with fur surrounding the injury site.

Im sorry but i need my snack bowl. I "forget" to eat and it reminds me hey you need food. This one the reasons im self diagnosed adhd. I can pack a lunch and even though its sitting right there, im not going through the trouble to open it and eat it. Its there and open i'm good.

We had a beachbag that was made of a plastic type of material growning up and it was awesome. You could throw wet swimsuits in after the pool( multiple kids), damp towels, didn't have to worry about it getting wet from the ground, cleaned easily. May not be the best choice for everyone but there definitely is an audience for it

Products meant to solve false problems really seem to be becoming more common these days. And I'm just so tired of the word "essential" being used for the least essential things imaginable, if a person doesn't really think very hard about it I feel it really does plant a seed in their brain that confuses needs (or "life changing" purchases) with random junk. You put it best, Shawna, "What is this capitalist hellscape?"
The key to being organised is having less stuff! Managing your stuff takes time and attention, there’s a limit to how much stuff you can reasonably manage in your daily life. These videos will only cause you to have more stuff to manage, not less, making it harder to keep tidy and neat!

I do have some weird gadgets that seem excessive but are needed for making disabled life easier.
However, as someone with a masters degree in product design, I pick apart every aspect of every product (whilst admittedly joying watching it) and then pick out the very small proportion of products I like, then look them up elsewhere without a huge markup, and look at competitor/offbrand versions with extra or different features that are more appropriate for what I need them for. No clicking of affiliate links unless it calls for it imo 😂
If anything I pinch ideas on how these things function, come up with my own solution or find a lower priced, more practical version of said solution

I’ve been suckered too. I was convinced that I had to buy a floor steamer to clean my bathroom instead of using my swiffer and I just to had to have an electric scrub brush to clean my tub. They seemed like really great ideas but I don’t think they work any better than what I was already using. Especially the little scrub brush, I can do just as well with my scrubby sponge. Gah, I’m so mad at myself but then I remember that these people’s job is to make us part with our hard earned money and they are good at it.
I CRINGED at the sunscreen applicator. Sunscreen can get ruined so quickly if it oxidizes or is kept in a container not meant for that specific sunscreen. It genuinely doesn't seem to solve anything

I feel like it wouldn’t apply nearly enough sunscreen. Someone else said it was good to send with their kids to school. I think it’s fine for like the 30 minutes at lunch but not a full beach day
Also, they make sunscreen that comes in these stick things you can apply the same way, which I imagine are overall cheaper, and the container is actually meant to hold sunscreen so it lasts
@@blehblehblehdraculayou don't understand the point do you? Sunscreen packaging is made specifically to keep the formula active. Putting it in another container can negatively affect the product and even contaminate it
your videos are so refreshing. i can barely be on social media anymore because everyone is trying to sell something and the amazon must haves are truly out of control. i could totally see buying a bag like that first one if you have kids but i think the amazon must have culture has made people stop buying things for life and just buy things and use them a few times. that bag would be a good investment if you go to the beach or pool all the time with kids and need to throw a bunch of stuff in there but im sure many people making these videos buy it and use it once
Quite a few of those items in the 3rd video would make great accessibility tools for us disabled folk, esp the stairs and the flipping utensil!
people tend to ignore that a lot of these "useless" things are tools for accessibility . but if they're labeled as accessibility tools the price significantly increases.
Ngl, some of this stuff I could see myself using regularly. HOWEVER, the way that people get big views from these videos means that they post a lot of them, and there is no way people need all of this. I agree that people impulse buy things because they could see themselves using it, without thinking about how OFTEN they'll use it. For example, I live in RI, less than 45 min from the beach. I like the beach! How often have I gone in the last year? Once, because my boyfriend works weekends. My cost per use would be sky high.
Sure you could see yourself using them but they are not must haves are they?
I feel like a lot of influencers are selling an aesthetic. Almost all of these products have a matching colour scheme to their home and those items are usually the more expensive versions of what is already out there. They buy these things and show them in videos for the aesthetic and views

I have sensory issues, and I recently got a suncream applicator like this. (It’s more of a hard stick of suncream, like deodorant) I HATE suncream on my hands. I hate having excessive amounts on me aswell. This helps that problem, remember if a product doesn’t seem necessary to you sometimes it is for others like disabled people, elderly or kids.
I think the issue with the applicator is it isn't going to work safely, they make stick sunscreen now which works great and actually applied the product. That sponge us going to absorb the product and user will end up not having enough applied and if the cream is in there for any length of time it's going to lose efficacy.
Better to use a product that is packaged and formulated for the application method.
As a mother., that tote bag sounds like a life saver. Kids are messy, and I'm sure if you ever took a child to a beach wet sand and wet beach findings have gotten inside you're bag lol. It's also good if you're on a boat since it looks like it can float better than a regular bag.

I got one of those tote bag for a birthday gift a few years ago and I can attest it’s my favorite summer/beach bag. 🤷🏻♀️ in my opinion it was a great gift and I use it every year. I also use it as our bathing suite/towel storage for any vacation and even just in our closet.
My car essentials: bottle of sunblock, bottle of bug spray, hats hanging off gear shifter (it's long cause it's an old Jeep), phone charger, toolbox, engine.

Mine are: paper towels, dog bags, back seat cover, tissues, phone charger, reusable grocery bags

You should not be leaving sunscreen in a car, especially during the summer! When it gets too hot it tends to break down and lose its effectiveness. You can google it if you don’t believe me, but it can and often does go bad. Just looking out for u

Anytime I see Amazon must haves I feel sick lol, maybe like 5-10 years ago Amazon was great but it’s a lot more expensive than it used to be as well as the lack of ethics of the company in general.
I also felt I used to find good deals on Amazon years ago but it's really not true anymore
The lil Stanley bag was already the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen but the ring attachment thing freaking sent me. If you wanna wear a ring you leave the house with it, or bring it with you in your regular bag if you're going on a trip.

What I really like about your videos: you add thoughts in regards to accessibility to your critisism. I love how you keep critical while also stating that some things have their use for disabled people. As a disabled person myself I really want to thank you for this. I unfollowed a few de-influencer because they picked things that are clearly disablity aids and made fun of them, very ableist. Your channel is remarkably different from those, which I appreciate very much. Thank you for making me feel seen.
Your remark that we want to style/buy things for things we like really hit home for me. I didn't know why I was so drawn (without acting on it) to objectively silly things for my stanley cup (disclaimer: *one*, which I own for a long time and use daily) but now I have a very clear idea why. The next time I get the urge to accessoirize it I will slap a cute sticker on it and call it a day ;)
Many YTs tell me Amazon pays WAY better for these videos than other such retailers-which helps explain why we see so much promotion for their stuff. What concerns me more, though, is all the (usually) younger people who don’t realize the makers get paid at all, regardless of disclosure (often easy to miss)..
To me, it’s just an ad, like any other ad. But some people take them more as a friend’s advice.
I know what’s going on (a little), and pound “need vs. want,” but it’s still hard sometimes to resist when you’re constantly beat over the head with it. And that platform is so quick and easy to use.

Im in my early twenties, and i hate to sound like older people, but i feel like we've become a society that feels like every issue can be solved with a purchase. Sometimes life happens and your bag gets wet: throw it in the dryer or lay it out in the sun; you dont want to have to buy water bottles all the time, use a reusable?? People are eventually gonna clutter up their stuff with the things that were meant to declutter or fix other issues

My SIL noticed that I have an owala water bottle, so we started talking about it (I guess they’re the new water bottle trend). I told her that I just grabbed it because it was similar to my water bottle I had since middle school that my cat broke by accident. She told me that she has an entire giant storage bin full of Stanley’s! I was shocked because I would be embarrassed to say that out loud to anyone. She said “I’m over it, I’m not going to buy anymore water bottles because the trends change so fast” like GIRL you fell for it already. But yea Stanley girlies go hard

The shower bottles I don't mind because the original ones give so much product at once. I went from needing a new shampoo every 2 month to one ever 6 months so for me it's worth it
We have narrow shelves and the shampoo bottles always got knocked over: not a necessity for everybody, but a great thing in the right bathroom. We just re-buy the same shampoo/conditioner/etc every time.
NGL I lowkey want that Stanley carrying bag - primarily so I can bring it with me to the dog park so I don't have to drag a giant tote bag with me. I could use the strap since I bring my dog's water bottle, a ball or tug toy, my phone and her leash has to be in a free hand. I think the main thing is to know what you'll actually use vs what's not necessary. I doubt people are buying as much as advertised.
I bought a Stanley cup a couple years ago before the craze took off. I like it, but it’s nothing special and now I’m embarrassed to be seen in public with it so it doesn’t leave the house 😂
I go camping 6-7 times a year with a big group of friends and we own a collective firepit. We chip in for fuel, if it's dry we can grab additional wood from where we're camping. I'd wager we use that firepit more often than most people do, but I still wouldn't call it an "essential"

I used to live at the beach, and surfed nearly every morning. A regular canvas tote bag, or whatever kind you have is fine. I would recommend against grocery style bag because it’s way too easy for those to get in the ocean. But any reusable bag you’ve got is fine. And I would just roll up my swimsuit up in my towel and put it in the bag. It’s all going in the wash in 20 minutes anyway.
A backpack you already have is also a great idea. There’s a reason you see so many of us out there with a wet suit around our waist, a board under our arm and a backpack on. If the bag gets wet or dirty, it can always go through the wash too.
It’s the beach, not the moon. There’s no need for a ton of equipment. The stuff sitting next to you doesn’t need to be pretty. It’s not why you’re there. You don’t need much outside of good vibes.
It's not the bag...that's fine. The reason I won't by one is that I have a mesh bag that does the job and I store it on a hook on my closet door. I don't know where that giant stand up bag would go.
Seriously….the number of comments saying they can’t live without a plastic single-purpose tote is baffling to me. Why are they defending their purchases tooth and nail instead of taking an L and moving on with their lives.
I'll admit, here in Florida, that Stanley Jug is a really good idea because I always keep water in my car but it gets too hot in the car even when stopping in the store. So I will give you a little pushback on that one, lol!
That big cooler bag is actually a useful essential... just not if you can drive to the store. It's a very niche case, but one I fit. I have to use a cooler bag with ice packs to transport my groceries, as I walk and bus everywhere(Can't drive due to health reasons). Having a large, robust cooler bag enables me to get things like milk, cold produce, cheese, and meat.

Great video! I enjoy restock videos because I like all the clicking and ASMR but don’t really want Amazon must haves because I can’t stand clutter. I need everything to have a space, especially because I have ADHD and there are doom piles all over my apartment 😂 The ONLY thing I was tempted to buy recently from an influencer on Amazon were these triangle containers that are meant to store pizza slices. I think I would actually use it because sometimes pizza can be hard to store in regular, rectangular containers but then I remember that I usually just eat all my pizza in one sitting anyways and don’t store it in the fridge THAT often.
I have pizza shaped containers! We use them for leftover pizza for lunches cause they’re usually too long for our regular ones. My mom got them years ago when I was a kid but we don’t use them that much
In Canada many people carry some emergency cold weather protection supplies such as blankets, collapsible shovels,gravel or sand, candles and etc. necessities for travel in what can be life threatening cold temps. Love your videos. Keep up to common sense work, shining a light on this crazy excess!
Essentials are water, food, air, love, purpose.
I will say travel size products help me a lot, because I get really stressed bringing extra stuff and having either mini products or the bottles you can get to put the stuff you have in are super helpful
The bowls on the Stanleys actually make me uncomfortable, lol.
The Stanley accessories that were shown to prevent lid leakage looked useful, because that’s my primary complaint about the Stanley. But instead of having to buy additional accessories to prevent leakage, why not just buy a different brand of tumbler that is already leak-proof? 🤷♀️
The brand RTIC is one of my favorites, and the tumblers are ceramic lined for better flavor.
I work with vulnerable adults in a day program and there was one client that that stand up beach bag would have been fantastic with. She loved to go to the beaches for hours and throw rocks into the water. But more helpful would be the simple fact that it stands up. She needed bathroom help and was sent to us with a regular duffle bag. Kneeling on the bathroom floor trying to dig around a cluttered, collapsed fabric bag to find wipes, gloves, diapers, and whatever else might be needed while an impatient client sits on the toilet is way too stressful.
I haven’t worked with her in a few years, but dang, I'd be tempted for a smaller version when I did.
The pet first aid kit kind of tickled me, because it doesn't say cat/dog first aid, it's just pet. Like does this contain bandages for your turtle? Wing harnesses for your budgie? Anti-salt solution for your giant african land snail?
The bottle thing for the bathroom, it's not just that you're not reducing the number of bottles, she says they are reusable as if you're going to be saving plastic, but you're going to be buying plastic bottles to fill up the plastic bottles!!!
The only way that you can really benefit the planet and do it aesthetically is that, for example, i know that Body Shop does refillable metal dispensers. They would all be matching and when you need to refill, you just take them back to the store. A much better, sustainable way to do it, if these things really bother you that much.
They also never own up to the fact that none of the Esthetic bottles hold an entire bottle of anything. You are always stuck with half to a quarter bottle of product that you have to store somewhere else now until you have room in the Pretty bottle. So irritating.
I have another comment about the whole aesthetic thing. I'm autistic and ADHD and I've found that having a good aesthetic is both calming to me and also helps me to remember and follow through with a lot of tasks. Even taking a shower became a lot easier when we changed how we organized it. I'm always on the lookout for things that would be helpful but also that I would want to use and keep in view because of their aesthetic. But it can be such a slippery slope. With ADHD by impulse control can be a serious problem, especially when it comes to spending. I know my wallet is my responsibility, but I also feel like the people who run these accounts are almost preying on people who feel the need for the aesthetic to function, whether its autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD or any number of things. But once you buy enough useless junk it makes things worse through all the clutter and knowing you've wasted money.

I say that a (human) first aid kit is reasonable. A decent, pre-assembled kit is a good idea for the average person to have just in case something happens. Of course, if you have special medical needs and requirements, bring your supplies with you!
So, I recently switched to uniform bottles in the shower for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. 😆 It's working for me in terms of clutter management. Not only the physical clutter but also the visual clutter. Maintenance is no problem. I actually enjoy it.
I do find the stocking videos ridiculous. I dont want to feel like im living in a grocery store for goodness sake. I used to over buy and things would go bad before i used them. It has been a process, but good systems and organization does prevent me from over buying.

I found myself watching a lot of Shea Whitney's videos 6 months ago. Her entire channel is nothing more than Amazon products YOU NEED. It can be fun looking at some cool products here and there but over time, I became mentally exhausted at the number of products she is shilling. I stopped watching because I'm tired of the hyperbolic "life changing" nonsense. It's so fake and once one realizes people make extreme amounts of money selling this crap, it really puts a bad taste in my mouth. I can't imagine buying even a quarter of the things listed in her videos and similar videos. Where does it all go??? We're talking hundreds if not thousands of products just laying around!?! It's such a joke. Do these people return everything once they make a video? Do they have a storage shed that can act as a small store to house all of their products? They aren't using them on a daily basis! Who has room for all of these products!!!!

It is crying wolf to me at this point. The first time Shea tells me, "hey, I've got this life-changing thing to tell you " I'll listen the first time. Then a few days later she has more life-changing things? Hmm. Another few days and she has Absolutely Life-changing things?! At that point she can fluff off for wasting my time.

I think the sponge on the sunscreen applier would get clogged up and grotty very quickly.
How to get your/a car summer ready: do maintenance if required as usual. clean and or vacuum it. keep some fuel in the tank, and oil up to standard, check you have summer wheels on not winter wheels, check your first aid kits expiery date, and water for the windshieldwipers. basically keep your car maintained as usual (if you can manage) drive when necessary.
Or, when possible, switch to public transport or bike. yay, you're all good

My problem was I put the sunblock everyhwere and hated it on my hands, so I wiped it off all these years.
So please make sure to sunblock your hands no matter how icky it feels.
I do like to have face/makeup wipes in my car because sometimes at the end of the day, I just need to wipe off the day while I'm stuck in traffic. Or things get on your hands at the gas station, or if you're eating in the car. Also the squeegee for the shower door is a must have in my opinion, it helps from having to scrub off the soap and water stains from the shower doors all the time. But you can get them for like $2 at Home Depot or wherever.
Products to quick fix a non problem. If you don't want sand in your car, get drop cloths from a craft store or dollar tree table covers or shower curtain liners. I make as much of my own products as I can, candles, soap, bath soaks/bubble bars, blend my own teas, etc. Perfumes and all that too. The drink thing is a luxury but i cannot justify it as essential.
Hmmm depends on lifestyle and disability I think in this conversation. Theres some presupposition that is context dependent like having kids, being a life guard, having mobility challenge. Understand tne point but nuance....

I actually need that sunscreen applier, because of my sensory issues I cannot, CANNOT handle applying sunscreen and so I either go without or have to have someone put it on me. But that's my AuDHD issue, not like an "everyone" issue.

I look like a tiny child flapping my hands going to husband or my friend "pls, pls help, and ignore my squeamish freaking out" when we go to like an amusement park or times when I will be outside for more than it takes to walk from the handicap parking space into a store. But it's SUCH an avoidance thing I get physically sick if I have to do any kind of lotion, bug repellant, or sunscreen, and I can't use the spray kind, which would solve ALL these issues I have, because my other disability is lung related! Ridiculous, niche, and not quite in demand of a ton of product to purchase lol

I hate the feeling of having lotion type sunscreen on the palm of my hands. I have no issue with it on the rest if my body or on the backs of my hands. I think it is from having more on my hands while applying. I do use spray sunscreen as well but have found for the activities I do the banana boat lotion followed by spray for reapplication works best

They are rubbish. I got one as a gift and the quality is static radio. Like have you ever listened to a TV or radio on quiet because you didn't want to disturb someone? That's exactly what it sounds like.

The sunscreen applicator actually would have been amazing for me as a kid. I’m autistic and still hate putting on sunscreen (but I better understand why I need to now that I’m an adult) but when I was younger and going to summer camps, I just wouldn’t put it on because of how it felt. Probably would have saved me a lot of pain from sunburn if I didn’t have to use my hands
Now all we need is a truly no smell sunscreen and I may actually put some on
The sunscreen tech has come so far in the last 10 years! Sunscreen sticks, sunscreen that is almost completely odorless, better protection: would have made such a difference as a kid!
The sunscreen stick would be a safer choice, the sponge is going to absorb so much of the product you likely aren't going to actually end up with enough on your skin.
I agree with you about put of control consumption. Although I always keep a pack of baby wipes in the car (and I don’t have little kids anymore) because it’s a convenient way to refresh and clean hands after shopping or eating sticky things in the car. I can’t use alcohol sanitizer as it dries out my skin and the wipes are a life saver.

I hate these videos and absolutely agree with you. NONE OF THIS IS needed for survival. As you mentioned with the firepit, the novelty always fades. Everything these influencers push are usually items that we already have , just an enhanced version. I have never got excited about a hand sanitizer yet these influencers push the same $14 hand sanitizer wipes!!!!?????? I buy my hand sanitzer at Dollar Tree for $1.25 and keep it in my glove box, does the SAME THING!!! Can you imagine how much $$#% they own??? They have handbags for their tumblers?? HAAA!!!
The thing that got me the most was the cart. Having a wagon is at least something that might house a kid, or helps you get around for a big shop without having to move everything, because it can just be put into the car and taken out (I think so at least??), but the carts have to be collapsible so you can't even keep the stuff in it?? You simply have to buy your own grocery cart?? Why are people so obsessed with owing everything instead of borrowing
Before you buy the big water proof bag, please consider a more storeable and or collapsable mesh bag. It wont stand up, but you'll need a lg. space to store the stand alone bag and it will probably end up being used to hold other bags.
My totes go on a hook on the back of my closet door. That big waterproof tote wont fit in this space.

Actually was intrigued when the guy talked about a way to get the sand off of of clammy beach legs lol. That's my biggest pet peeve about going to the beach haha. Also intrigued by the sunscreen applicator, not going to lie. I don't really mind essentials videos if they're from creators that I really like. I don't feel particularly pressured to buy anything but I kind of store away the things they say as possible gift ideas for people in the future. Some creators are just obnoxious and I don't enjoy videos from them in general, but for those creators that I really enjoy here on RUclips (I don't do TikTok or Instagram), I'm genuinely curious to know what they recommend for different scenarios and for gift-giving. Totally agree that people are pushing too much product, but I have definitely found some gems through videos like these and also some great gift options, too. I think moderation is key here.
There are plenty of comments saying a sock with cornstarch or baby powder removes sand just as well or better. There ya go! Saved you some money.

In defense of the pool bag - since my kids were small we have had a pool bag. Always ready to grab and go. When we get home, we restock it with towels, dry suits, and fresh snacks. Our first was canvas. It mildewed (leaking water bottles, wat towels, wet pool toys) . Now that kids are older each child has their own bag (we chose a plastic mesh) ready to grab. I love this particular bag. And it's tucked in the back of my head for when i need a new one. I like that it's more bucket like than bag like. But i wouldn't consider it "essential".
I like to have straps for my water bottles. Hands-free all the way, lol!
I have single use versions of sunscreen, wipes, etc, but only for open air festivals or shows where you have to be there all day and I like to have the smallest possible bag with me. But for a car trip, definitely full size of everything is fine.
