The 3rd one is like… don’t buy three small travel Advils, but get one and then refill it with the advil you already have at home??? Odd.
Love this video! A major thing I’ve noticed as influencer marketing has just exploded is that reviews become less and less involved. It used to be that people, even when they received stuff in PR, gave those items a fair and serious try. Wearing makeup for 24 hours or a week and giving updates or using an item consistently in their life to see if it worked for them. Now the goal is to sell as many items as possible as quickly as possible. I really don’t believe influencers when they say “this changed my life you need this” because there’s no proof they didn’t just open it that day, take a video of them using it, and post it. The worst is when they do unboxing hauls and act like the clothes they literally haven’t put on yet are must-buys. It feels so grimy.
18:19 unless this is for a full household, that's too much
These people are restocking their bathrooms like they are a hotel. I have one Tree Hut scrub in my shower and will use it up until it is empty. I can’t imagine having multiples of the same product. I felt overwhelmed watching all these restock videos 🥴
I think a good part of the success of these kind of videos is the backlash they get : tiktok (and others) will value videos with lots of comments wether they are positive or negative. Which means they are in time normalised. That's such a shame
Y'know, I'm still not sure how I found you, but I've been loving your videos, they're so chill 💜
thank you so much!
💜💜💜💜💜💜
Those videos are not restock. There are a hidden advertisment of products they sell from amazon. The restocking is just advertising. The pantry is probably a pursuase with coupons. In real life l am sure they live without all of these craps.
right on the money with this, so many of them are ads for products they're selling in their storefronts
No way I'd be putting out butt wipes, that's just inviting the plumber to make a visit because I don't care what it says on the label they are NOT flushable!
Emily is not restocking her closet she got that in PR from BBW. Don’t get it twisted.
yeah, she mentions that in the video and that's part of the commentary
Do those children….. eat vegetables
The amount of waste, plastic and sugar that is in these videos is disgusting. Please people, do better with your choices as a consumer.
These people have to be like me and have mental health disorders. This is not normal. The woman in her garage … ugh stockpiling is one of my compulsion’s. This isn’t enjoyable for me to need 4 of everything like shampoo in the closet, and when I use one i HAVE TO replace it and have 4 at all times. (I do use the oldest one first and add the new one to the back) and it does truly end up getting used. But It’s miserable and irrational. I’m working really hard to break this, I have 3 dry shampoos and 2 tooth paste only and I have not yet replaced it to make 4. I do have 4 body wash, 4 shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, shaving cream, etc. Should not be encouraged. Exposure therapy! I got this 💪🏻💜🤞🏻🙏🏻 my niece called it some it girl math. And I was like WHAT they have a trendy name for stockpiling oh we are doomed….
I would love to see an anti-single-use-plastic video! Plastic is so gross, I avoid it as much as I can
💜
💜 On the subject of Funko Pops; would you ever be willing to do a video on overconsumption and hyperconsumerism in fandom spaces? Most fandoms have a collecting aspect to them, and there's a very 'Keeping Up With the Jones'' mentality when it comes to having fandom merch. There's also the attitude of 'you're not a real fan unless you have this piece of merch, or this exclusive edition, etc, etc' that I've seen. And it's often self-imposed, with people saying things like "well what kind of [character] fan would I be if I didn't have [item involving that character]?". I've fallen for that trap myself, and I have to actively stop myself from falling into that mindset again. It doesn't help that with things like comic books, you have to continually purchase the medium. And there's things like variant covers, meaning people are even more pressured to collect and buy more than they really need to for the sake of their collection. And even though trade paper backs exist, there's the FOMO that comes from not reading a book month to month, so many people collect the single issues AND the trades. Yeah, it's a lot. And sadly it's not really talked about, even among creators who otherwise critique this kind of stuff.
oh my god yes, I'm a kpop fan and I find myself buying way too many albums. I try to limit myself to only my favorite groups and only albums I actually love, but the pressure or influence to buy more albums is a lot
About the 'candy salad' thing. Yes it incredibly wasteful, especially for a household with only two adults in it. I sincerely doubt they are finishing that whole bowl. However, I have done something like this before for a Halloween party. You mix it all together in a large bowl and you supply a scoop and the kids get to scoop some for themselves. Often into like little bags or small mason jars. It's a really fun event for a party. I would never leave that lying in the open air of my house though. The sheer amount of dust and animal dander it would attract 🤢 Maybe for a group movie night, but then you either need to supply a scoop or assume that everyone is washing their hands 😓🙄 and maybe I'm the untrustworthy one here but I don't think so.
I can very much see this as a fun party thing!
💜 💟 💜
You should do a video reacting to perfume tiktok, the ones with massive collections ;)
girl i'm trying to manage my expenses and use all collection that i have before buying new product unless i'm all out of it and ur videos really keep me on track with that
In future post apocalyptic movies and series the smart survivors don't get their supplies from the usual places. They know to check closets in houses. 😅
36:41 And here I thought I felt bad buying six body mists in Bath and Body Works Buy 3 Get 3 lol. I usually do this once every couple of years, but all the mists are getting used lol.
Having 11 kids... That's overconsumption! 😆
😂
😂 right? Geez. I love kids but dang.
They're adopted
None of that is real food, everything is just ultra processed crap 🤢
I spotted all the proportioned stuff too, but then p much realized it's all for advertising...ick
The water baffles me. I know that in some parts of the us you just can’t drink the tap water but man. Also yes the plastic. I really liked to watch those tlc shows about couponing because why wouldn’t you want like 50 cases of laundry detergent? At this point I’d like them to just watch Nara smith and start cooking everything themselves. That would definitely be aesthetically pleasing if they froze all that homemade stew or whatever.
Please do a video on ultra processed food. The women alicia with 11 kids shops this way multiple times a week and if you do a deep dive you would find out some of her adopted kids have medical issues due to fetal alcohol syndrome and says her kids have to be careful they can get addicted to anything very easily including sugar. She says they cant have dyes yet all she buys and makes has sugar and are highly ultra processed food the very thing they supposedly cant eat. 🤷
She’s sharing the medical info of her adopted kids online? WTF?
But then again, how do we know that it's all true, it's so easy to lie online 🙈
I use a washcloth. Not wipes.
including "are the straights okay" in the thumbnail is pretty messed up. people of all sexual orientations can struggle with overconsumption, and i have certainly seen gay men overconsume skincare. the heterophobia isn't needed
“heterophobia” was never a problem and you would understand the context of how the quote is used if you watched the video lol
its not straightphobia. its just saying that needlessly gendered products are needlessly gendered
💀
She's got 11 kids. How much food do you expect her to have? I don't care if she buys 9 packs of Gatorade because they're shelf stable. They'll be drunk eventually.
She buys this way every week and sometimes goes to the store mid week for more food. Once you learn more about her the more you see. She also says her kids her medical issues and can't have dyes and sugars yet that's all she buys
It's still way too much for 11 kids. I would understand if it was ingredients and such, but the amount of snacks is way too much
@@meggo329 oh... Yeah, that doesn't make a lot of sense
@@suraya_ my thought was they last a long time and will eventually be eaten, but someone said she goes shopping like this every week... I wonder if she gives food to a food pantry to do another restock video. Otherwise, I have no idea where that much food would go
All I'm seeing is a lot of products that are going to go stale and candy that's going to dry up. Not amusing or tempting. 🤷♀
I wonder how its possible to afford all this 😵💫 I mean i just have two kids and it's stressing me financially out every weekend when they want snacks. Btw I'm from Germany so i don't know the prices in the USA
Snacks are very expensive
💜💜💜 why would anyone ever put "restock" and "closet" in the same sentence 😭😭😭
also my thoughts
The several packs of gum in the purse restock was crazy to me. I chew gum at least a couple times per week and still only have to buy a new pack like once per month. And when I do run out, I just grab a pack when I’m at the gas station or grocery store or something. You don’t need a whole surplus of gum packs sitting around 😑
In reference to the bathroom restock commenters (those in defense of the influencer) I have three insights for you. They are as follows: 1) You do not know this influencer, so you cannot assume behavior for them just because you like them. Furthermore, they also do not know you. (The parasocial connection is real and often forgotten especially with people whose content we consume on the daily.) 2) To say that the influencer, who we have established you do not know, will provide a more appropriate non-gendered option for their trans or non-binary friends, is kind of missing the point. If the influencer were to change out their assortment, instead of you know just already catering to a non-gendered assortment, then they aren't really a trans ally are they? If non-transfolk are easily offended by my inclusion actions, they shouldn't be allowed in there to begin with. 3) The influencer with whom you are defending is trying to manipulate you into buying things you do not need for their own profits. You're welcome ;)
My idea of over consumption is ie buying two mayos , when I finish the first one and start on the second one I will by another one, so I never run out, and I only do that if I know I use a product a lot and don't want to run out and that's it
💜
Thank you, Shawna! You are life changing 🎉
Many of those items aren't even stock or prepping worthy. I can see some canned goods or certain packaged items that can last for two years (3 years max). The prepping videos I had seen all say the same thing... buy items you are using and restock when needed, but always use the items as you are prepping. You never let the stuff go to waste.
💜💜💜
11 kids + two parents? = 13 people, so maybe if you buy about 600 or so dollars per person a month then MAYBE?!? $7K??? But not every child is eating the same amount?! They are different ages, right??? ... Edit : wait. Wait. WhaT. It was just a lie 😂 and for the family of FOUR. Sorry i got mixed up.
The channel is Doherty Dozen so I assume it’s 11 kids and her or there is a math problem 🤣
You are my hero!!
I don’t use makeup wipes anymore. Probably not since college. I use a cleansing balm and wash cloth.
re: pre-portioned items, this goes back to how a lot of working class people don't have enough time for ourselves, including to prepare food. our jobs are overworking and underpaying us, and some positions may have mandatory overtime. if you're disabled in any way and work, pre-portioned protein shakes and snack items help SO much with making sure you're getting nutrition. single-use plastic use should be on the corporations who produce these items and not the consumer, imo. yes, you can choose to buy something different or change your habits to free up time for pre-portioning bulk items, but that often requires time and energy working class and/or disabled people don't have. not to mention if you struggle with keeping up with self-care. so much of restock tiktok is full of large, comfortably rich families who weaponize rage bait and large numbers to collect views and eventually, more wealth. it's so frustrating to see as someone, among many, who struggle paycheck to paycheck. super insightful vid as always, love this series! 💜 edit: as for makeup wipes, ive never used them because i always thought they were super wasteful. i use makeup cleanser and a towel like a normal person 😂
Thank you for this wonderful and nuanced comment 😊
Though I’m a b&bw fan, they like tree hut are proof you can over-consume with any price point
r/perfume is absolutely another example of horrific normalization of overconsumption. It almost got me sucked in. Then I found your videos and I was snapped awake. Thanks for all you do!
basically that Reddit group hypes about a lot of perfumes and people have massive collections? am i getting this right?
@@ghoulchan7525 yup! People post their collections that literally look like perfume stores, hype up other collectors, encourage toxic relationship dynamics, lying, and justify some of the craziest behavior I’ve ever seen (hiding purchases from spouses, etc) all over some scented alcohol. And this is coming from someone who LOVES my perfume.
my mom watches that first lady (on youtube) and you’re so right! the excess of food, especially the junk food, is definitely a rage bait move. my mom tells me how people fight in her comments all the time lol. even people in THIS comment section are judging how she shouldn’t be feeding her kids so much junk food, even though it’s not anyone’s business. 😅 i do think people are influenced to aspire to over-consume to that degree, so it’s for sure problematic. also, i haven’t used a makeup wipe since i was in middle school, so probably 15 years ago! 😮
Yeah, I've definitely seen some of that myself. I know I judge a lot in my videos but I try to draw lines somewhere 😅
she made it people's business by posting it online though. it could be mistreatment to feed her kids garbage
@@amandak.4246 i mean in a general sense. it’s truly nobody’s business to judge ANYONE’S dietary choices regardless if it’s online or not, sorry. but that specific creator knows that judgement is exactly the engagement she wants/needs, so she uses it to her advantage.
@@shawnaripari i always feel like you’re respectful while getting your points across, shawna!!
Restock just gets on my nerves wow we sooo do not need all of these tiny items. what a waste hoarding and just ughhhh !!!!! 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
