Wow... dont need to be idiotic. Steam is the best platform rn and it gives good sales as well.
Valve is doing games, but not the ones we want. As well, they are developing their own OS, which is a really hard work to do.
Zanes Tanks 75% of pc video game sales originate from steam, if you didn't have steam it would be a whole lot harder to get games. Also there is nothing wring with a game company not creating games if they are making money elsewhere. They have just changed their business plan to be more focused around the digital marketplace. They do still make games, mostly vr, and don't forget nearly of the games they made were adopted from mods. It would also be idiotic to forget about the htc vive that Valve co-created and the amazing steam vr platform. Valve is a great company and deserves praise.
I think that Valve is going to take down this project or offer Project Borealis to join Valve , because they are doing it without Valves permission

The animations surely need some calibration, just don't rush it. Quality over quantity;)

"just don't rush it. Quality over quantity", this is the case with most of these fan projects and because of that it takes literally years and years for them to finish what they started (most shutdown quite early) I might be wrong though.

Re-read what I said. I said that I did not recall Scarecrow _asking_ how long it will take. Also, they are clearly fine with it taking a while. As you said, they stated that they prefer quality over quantity.
I like how people are complaining it isn't source engine. Well maybe if Valve kept their word and released source engine 2 as an engine people could use....if it was actually usable also lol. It makes a lot of sense to use unreal engine because it's an actual working engine that works and isn't vaporware and is also not shit.
I just think it's silly to try to recreate every quirk of HL2 in Unreal when the Source engine has most of the assets and already had the game feel you'd need for the game. There's no way you can recreate the HL2 physics 1:1. Valve was gonna make it in Source anyways. I'd rather see the source engine pushed to it's limits than an imitation.
Except we have already seen plenty of mods or games push the source engine to it's limits, most of the assets (from 2004) have been reused hundreds of times and are ugly now. I think source 2 clearly died in development, it's time to move on. If you want to make something modern in source you'd have to completely renovate the engine like respawn did.

You don’t have to completely remake Source to make it look beautiful.
There are numerous ways to implement PBR, screen space reflections, muzzle flash D-lighting, and even tons more.
Just look at Black Mesa Source’s new lighting code and tell me it doesn’t look impressive.
B-b-but... What about all my favorite source bugs such as bunnyhopping, props flying, abh and so on? :(
There will be tons of other bugs and maybe some, that will allow you do the same thing. UE4 has bugs too, you know.

We need some more Warehouse video though, would love to see how the viewmodels react to different lightning scenarios. On the movement demo everything looked "kind of flat" cause of the lightning.

Animations need some serious work, everything else looks great.
Yeah there's like something off about them put i can't put my finger on it. like they don't have enough "oomph" of like valve's weapon animations, like they look too floaty

It is all WIP but yeah, animations are quite stiff. Also the flashlight could use a filter effect like on the HL2 flashlight.
they are too fast and have a weid mordern feel doesnt make it like half life is supposed to be :/

If you manage to make something (I'm skeptical about that), try not to end up with a HDTF.
Right now it looks like a default FPS UE4 scene with a few not-even-well-textured guns with weird looking animations (they just look off).

It has been my dream to do voice acting on a game like this for a long time. I remember playing HL back in '98 and not getting past the first door you get to smash with a crowbar because me and my friends were so amazed at the idea of just having to smash the window. I'm excited for this release for sure, capturing the level design, atmosphere, world building, and pacing that made Half Life 2 an excellent game is no easy feat. I hope that this team looks closely at the source material, highlights its strengths, and improves on its weaknesses.

So far with what you guys have done, the models look gorgeous especially the smg, gravity looks like it’s not done so keep working on that, also just keep trying to smooth out the animations and stuff but remember to not change or get rid of the stuff that made Half-Life great, I’m very excited for the future of this project and wish the best of luck to the whole team, you guys are our saviours.
I have to say that what you guys are doing is amazing. Your taking the time to finish a series that valve is unwilling to do which btw looks amazing. Good, but please guys just stick to the classic formula of HL2EP2, make the same thing with some good graphics. Don't push it to far till it lose the touch of what makes Half-Life a good game.
In other words: don't make another Hunt Down the Freeman.
Both HL1 and HL2 pushed it, that was kind of their original point which for some reason everyone forgot.

I reaction the SMG is pretty much done. The secondary fire animation could do with some work, to make it seem like it has a little bit of "kick" to it. The test one you guys have now is a little fast I think. Can't wait to see the day when this is released! NO RUSH THOUGH!

Nice progress so far. Have you guys thought about adding animations like extending your arm out when you jump to something higher or even climbing a ladder? Also what about more weapon sway when you are sprinting?

This... This is amazing. Screw valve. I don't care who makes HL3, as long as it's good. And seeing this, I know it will be! Would love to donate to this!
I'd recommend showing some screenshaking for strong weapons like the physcannon and the spas, and making it so gordon's arms won't shake around while he climbs.
Other recommendation is to try to make the reloads closer to their original versions. I still believe HL3 would have different weapons due to the setting, but if you're remaking the existing weapons, do it as similarly to the original as possible.
Make it so the jump feels lighter, the HEV enhances movement instead of worsening it.
I'd recommend focusing on breakable assets before working on the physcannon. Like, the vents and shit.
