I've always liked that Breen says "It's SAFER here." - not "it's safe here." Breen knew. He's the hero of the story, mercilessly killed by the mad scientist Gordon Freeman.
@David Jones Breen was doing all he could to keep humanity alive, he wasn't a puppet but merely a buffer between humans and the Combine to prevent their total annihilation. He recognized that slavery and being ruled by the Combine was the lesser of two evils if their only other option was to be destroyed, and he did truly care for humanity.
@David Jones I think the evidence is shown in his behavior as City 17 goes deeper into war. "Now is the time to redeem yourselves, you've plunged humanity into freefall" or his other quotes where he basically pleads for Gordon or the Citizens to reconsider their course of actions
@@burd2710 This is an interesting subject - He might indeed have had good intentions by keeping the human race alive.. but throughout Breen's speech when the wars 'goes deeper', it's also clear that he is in fact more afraid what will happen to himself. I believe Breen is manipulated by fear at this point; not just for the destruction of his race, but the torture the rebels will pull him through if he gets caught of guard. Is it truly better to live in pain/slavery, than be dead? To keep the humans alive is truly a selfish act from Breen. To summon up - he is loved by no one;(human nor combine) and his actions is purely based on fear.
@@DistilledGuava I don't know that he feared just for himself, he worked very hard to make the combines living conditions for humans somewhat livable, and he realized and accepted the importance of his role as representative of Humanity. All of these tracks are excellent, but we need a track like LG Orbifold or Sector Sweep. We need something that get's your adrenaline pumping. But that's just me.

I've been waiting for this to be uploaded for a while, this and Threatening Domain are the best. The siren is a nice touch, Kelly Bailey often did incorporate sound effects of what was currently going on into the corresponding track, like Crawl Yard or Steam in the Pipes.
alright my idea epistle 3 mentions them finding the borealis in the middle of a field surrounded by a base but the art and the transmission show it imbedded into the side of an ice shelf what if gordon and alyx travel through some caves and come across the borealis while it's in the ice shelf alyx gets confused because they are not at the coordinates that they were given and is worried because the combine are getting ready to board the ship so gordon and alyx fight them off in hopes of getting on the borealis but just as their about to it teleports away alyx believes that the combine may have already gotten on and teleported it to the combine base that the coordinates lead next to but when they get there the borealis isn't there and they begin seeing it appear at the coordinates that they were given and then realize that the combine didn't teleport it but that it actually teleported itself and the coordinates are for where it would appear next this allows for a combination of both the concept art and epistle 3 and helps lengthen the game provide an interesting moment provides a sense of false hope and gives this song a great spot with the siren like sounds at 1:35 being played after it teleports out of the ice shelf and causes the entire area to become unstable resulting in the sirens playing to alert everyone to evacuate it would be great to run from a collapsing ice shelf while fighting combine soldiers and dodging debris

Great
alright my idea
epistle 3 mentions them finding the borealis in the middle of a field surrounded by a base but the art and the transmission show it imbedded into the side of an ice shelf
what if gordon and alyx travel through some caves and come across the borealis while it's in the ice shelf
alyx gets confused because they are not at the coordinates that they were given and is worried because the combine are getting ready to board the ship
so gordon and alyx fight them off in hopes of getting on the borealis
but just as their about to
it teleports away
alyx believes that the combine may have already gotten on and teleported it to the combine base that the coordinates lead next to
but when they get there
the borealis isn't there
and they begin seeing it appear at the coordinates that they were given and then realize that the combine didn't teleport it but that it actually teleported itself
and the coordinates are for where it would appear next
this allows for a combination of both the concept art and epistle 3
and helps lengthen the game
provide an interesting moment
provides a sense of false hope
and gives this song a great spot
with the siren like sounds at 1:35 being played after it teleports out of the ice shelf and causes the entire area to become unstable
resulting in the sirens playing to alert everyone to evacuate
it would be great to run from a collapsing ice shelf while fighting combine soldiers and dodging debris
❤
