This fan made game looks more like that csgo parkour gliding and jumping game thing. (I've never done it myself so excuse me) but that what it looks like with everything being able to push you around without lots of damage being done.
its called surfing, its in all source games, for the most part
correction: in tf2, cs (go atleast if not a bunch of others), and i believe all of the source based hl games (not the gold source original).

It's amazing how they kept the gameplay feel/look very similar to original, that's a huge accomplishment. Physics looks amazing, graphics too. All that needs work are animations and particle effects. This has a big potential.

We don't need clipping on the stairs. We implemented a camera smoothing function which makes step height changes natural without clipping.
Good effort, valve could learn from this on dust 2.

I know some people don’t mind but I personally don’t like the muzzle flash. It’s a bit too... flashy.
We don't have particle artists, so the programming team had to roll their own for now as temporary assets! We hope to show new effects soon from actual artists soon!
mastercoms ah yes. I considered that was the case after I wrote that since the fire and hit particles are near identical. Everything else looks great though.

This looks amazing! Here's some honest feedback. Keep in mind I understand that these animations are unfinished, but I still want to give some constructive criticism. The movement and physics system are flawless. They emulate the original Source gameplay to a T, and I like the updated versions of the physics, especially with the Gravity Gun. My biggest concerns are the gun and explosion animations. The guns seem a little too animated, especially with reloading. Also, the shotgun reloading seems to move the entire shotgun, rather than only the pump. Just my honest feedback, but otherwise this looks very well done, I can't wait to try the tech demo in Ravenholm! Keep up the amazing work!

Nah, I absolutely love the reloading animations, like the finger tapping when you reload the pistol.
Also wanted to comment this, the Particle effects need some work, it just doesn't 'FEEL' right, but other than that 5/7 WD!
Well sometimes the shot gun will do that animation in (i think it did in Half Life) and i just noticed it in Gmod
Just finished watching the NoClip documentary. Just want to say thank you all for taking the time out of your lives and moving your schedule around to do a free fan project like this. You guys have actual jobs in the industry and elsewhere and aren't doing this for money or special recognition, you are doing it just because of you all love Half-Life and the way it changed the climate in the gaming industry.

One of the most impressive parts of this is the physics of the blocks on the table as it was lifted with the gravity gun. Source doesn't do this very well.
There are lots of things you can do with gravity gun now :) I don't want to spoil things, but for example, you can use grabbed objects as a hammer now. We teased a little about this with planks part of the video, it's possible to break them with cinderblocks.
With every single video I get dizzy with excitement. Seriously hope you guys can pull this together into a final game. Nice job on the new animations!
most things look great, but here's my constructive criticism:
the pistol seems it should be more accurate
the particle effects for all of the weapons seem too exaggerated, just scale them down and make them dimmer, but scale down the effects for the pistol more because it's a smaller gun. the pistol also seems to have too much knockback for a tiny gun? either speed up the knockback animation, reanimate it so it's more sudden at the start, and/or make the movement of the knockback less. and the sparks from the crowbar seem to be way too large and is too solid. also perhaps create a wood particle effect instead of sparks when u hit wood?
the saw blades seem pretty good, but i think what's missing is the power of the impact. it probably wobbles after it gets stuck so add a sound effect for that. it looks weird without sparks or wood chips or other particles, perhaps use those too? also, when you remove the sawblades, it seems like it is curving inside. the sawblades do not come out how they came in.
animation for launching things with the gravity gun seem delayed, perhaps either speed it up or make it more sudden at the start. it looks like first you launch it and then gordon decides to pull back his gravity gun. honestly now that you mention it the weapon animations are like this overall but to a much smaller degree
this seems like you may not have gotten to it yet, but when you are destroying planks of wood there are no sound effects or particle effects. please make the cinderblock seems more powerful when smashing the planks, use particle effects, sound, and maybe make the wood slightly harder to break

that's all folks. Some of the things i mentioned may not have been worked on yet or are just placeholders to work on other things, but I hope I didn't sound mean and that I helped the team in its progress.

About particles, we do not have a vfx artist in the team still :/ Each one is based on stock unreal ones. All of particle related problems will be solved when we find a talented artist :)
P.s about gravity gun: there is no delay on launching objects in game code, maybe it looked like that in this video? I'm not sure about it.

I found out about this project some minutes ago when I finished Episode 2, started lost coast, wondered what was going on, googled and found out that there is nothing that follows Episode Some particle effects look a bit exaggerated, but I am still amazed! The project seems like it's right at the beginning, but I see great potential in this. Keep going!
Particles in this video are the default Unreal particle effects, but I think they have recently brought on some particle artists to make custom ones.
I absolutely adore how much effort you’ve put into the movement system, going so far as to incorporate classic speedrunner tricks and little engine quirks like ABH. Please take as much time as you need and keep up the amazing work!

the timing of the draw weapon anims seems slow for a half life game, and the explosion sfx seem to have a really low radius to be heard, but i REALLY love the progress yall are making. good luck with the project
A few notes for the developers. First of all this looks like it has tons of potential to be a great follow up to ep2. Secondly here are a few things to keep in mind for the rest of development: Gun effects for things like the shot gun and other older weapons should be less flashy as they are more basic compared to lets say the gravity gun, the guns should make holes in the walls when they are shot, there doesn't seem to be any cross bow or rocket launcher in the tech demo so don't forget to show case them as soon as possible in case they need a lot of work to be like they are in hl2 and I feel that the crow bar animations are slightly off. Other than than you guys are doing great, better than what valve have done with half life in 10 years so good on you.
Other weapons are still in detailed development to reflect their feeling from HL2. When they're ready, we will surely include them in next update video :)

Projectile white trace is very glitchy when you move either the player or the camera, like around 3:18 you can frame by frame see the problems. Also, I'd like to see in the game something that will rise it from very good to awesome, such as a cameo-level based on a prototype of the portal gun
Yes, we're aware of problems on bullet trace effects. We're still in search of talented VFX artist to make proper ones :) The ones you see is kinda programmer art :P

I suppose the real question the real question first would be: are you trying to mimic HL:2 in every way even though it was released almost 14 years ago. A lot of HL:2’s charm was in its depressing gritty visuals - something that maybe difficult to replicate if you are trying to make things look too pretty. Just concentrate on nailing the tight level design, intuitive puzzles and making the movement as close to HL:2 as possible. The more I think about it the more I realise what a mammoth task you’ve taken on. If this game even becomes half as good as HL:2 then you’ve done an amazing job. HL:2 really was a masterpiece with amazing pacing and level design. Don’t be afraid to include gore, difficulty, horror. This game is for mature players and not made from a spreadsheet like most games these days. I take my at off for even attempting this and I’m sure the finished product will be great.
Here is a detailed explanation:
My answer would be we're trying to mimic hl2 in every way, but there is a slight roughness here. The game engine / game we're trying to mimic is from 10 years ago. So, if we decide an improvement is required to specific part of game, we're just adding our own comments in implementations. For example, we completely revamped destruction system. Source's destruction system is mostly dependent on pre-baked fractured pieces. We're using NVIDIA Physx APEX destruction right now, and it fits above our expectations to HL2 gameplay style. Upon we're improving those stuff, we're still trying to stay connected to how source handles destructibles, by using parameters like explosion damage, explosion force etc. from HL2 source code.
I agree and hope that this game will be as good as HL2. What I really want is this gritty, bloody, cold outlook and maybe some references to other horror stories in the polar regions such as The Thing or Mountains of Madness.

El efecto de luz de las balas se ve un poco raro para mi la verdad. Me refiero a que por ejemplo al disparar la pistola parece que se está disparando con un arma láser y con la metralleta lo parece más todavía Jajajajaja. Pero aún así todo es asombroso. Los modelos de las armas y de los brazos son buenísimos, cuando se destruye una caja es muy realista prácticamente genial y las físicas parecen estar bien implementadas por lo general aunque claro como es un fase muy temprana de desarrollo es normal que se necesite pulir algo más claro. Sinceramente opino que estáis haciendo un trabajo genial y asombroso, espero que este proyecto salga bien ya que se nota mucho el esfuerzo y cariño que le estáis aportando.
Translation: The light effect of the bullets looks a bit weird to me the truth. I mean that for example when shooting the gun it seems that it is shooting with a laser weapon and with the submachine gun it seems even more so Hahaha. But still everything is amazing. De acuerdo a lo poco que he leido, los efectos lucen así porque aún necesitan personal que se una a su equipo, y este personal es el encargado de realizar esos detalles, así que para poder mostrar algo relativamente completo tuvieron que utilizar esos efectos como sustitutos.

The work done on the props physics is incredible, sometimes it's even better than source it self.
Of course there still some imperfections, and the Gravity fells odd, like it's on the moon. (epistle reference ? :p )
But it's work in progress so it's totaly understandable.

Suggestions:
1. Use one sound channel for pickups. It literally ear rapes when you pick a lot of items at the same time.
2. Either remove backward bunnyhopping, or make it easier to do front hopping.
3. Explosives jumping looks odd. Leave it for competitive multiplayer or remove completely along with bunnyhopping, but don't but it into singleplayer to not destroy gaming atmosphere.
4. Bullet tracers look lagging. Decreasing particles density and their speed might help.
5. Physic objects don't feel as real objects but like some weightless toys. And lacks of various sound interactions (bricks collision, etc.)
1. Sound is something we are working on more now, and this is a great suggestion! So thanks.
2. Bunnyhopping is already allowed. ABH boost is separated from everything else, so it doesn't slow you down.
3. Explosive jumping will be less effective on release, we just thought it would look nice to exaggerate the explosive force to demonstrate the air strafing and blast jumping mechanics.
4. Yeah, bullet tracers actually had their density decreased after we recorded the update and we weren't able to fit that improvement in. We're also playing around with motion by adjusting the end and source positions of the particle over time, and making the fade out better.
5. We have some plans to make them feel more weighty, just needs some time for implementation :) Also sound interactions will be live when our sound artists complete the required sounds.
don't you dare even attempt to ask for backwards bhop to go. it is a need for the hl community. its a reason I still play the hl series. bhop is partly why I love hl games(mods included)

Everything is cool you try and make a game with your soul, but I do not see the third part of the game, but only 2 made on a new engine and with a new storyline. I'm not saying that this is bad, I just would like to see at least an updated interface or something, and fixate on junk (even if it's fit) is a bad idea. Better invent new mechanics, and do not try to recreate the bugs of the old game. PS: sry for my english just translated in google.
Все круто вы стараетесь и делаете игру с душой, но я не вижу 3й части игры, а только 2ю сделанную на новом движке и с новым сюжетом. Я не говорю что это плохо, просто хотелось бы видеть хотя бы обновленный интерфейс что ли, а зацикливаться на старье (даже и годном) плохая идея. Лучше придумывайте новые механики, а не пытайтесь воссоздать баги старой игры.

They have said before they will not add legs. Mechanics would have to be altered, like ladder climbing, for it to work properly.
