Grew up with all the great music from the 60's-70's as a young kid. I consider it the best era of 🎶 music from the artists in America and especially across the pond. Tons of Brits, Scots, Irish, Dutch, Swedish artists making the grandest music. I'm glad they decided to go down that musical road instead of doing something else career-wise. I was watching a recent interview with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull who I loved listening to as a kid and this Richard Johnson was also on the interview. I hadn't heard of him before so I looked him up and clicked on this song and that guy is excellent! I love the sounds....lots of talent there! I have Scottish heritage as well so I'm proud to hear of those who musically share their gifts from a great land!
me hope humbly us friends the band will do this.. been an ever-present wish to experience this genius and greatness of a song ever since i heard it.. dont dare yet
Always loved Ian, but his voice is gone, which is heartbreaking. Richard is still doing it, better than ever, in my opinion. I envy you your unbroken stretch of concert attendance. We see him when he can. Now he's playing bigger venues here in Atlanta and some of the intimacy is gone. That's too bad. He is so fricking REAL.
Yes, the Fairport songs are wonderful and Meet On The Ledge is timeless. I agree that anything he does is a potential favorite and my #1 changes often also. Next week it could be Take Care the Road You Choose or Galway to Graceland.
If everyone is nominating favourite RT song can I put in a word for Cold Kisses? However I agree that there are so many that each week could be a different one. Another real favourite is God loves a drunk. And for an upbeat one how about I feel so good?
Let me put in a vote for "The Ghost of You Walks": talk about exquisite craftsmanship . . . And then there's the perfect arrangement on the album version: whose breath doesn't stop when that bowed bass comes in on the "Blue murder on the dancefloor" section?
Funny how he can take something as worn out as Goldilocks, put it in a personal perspective, and make it a great song. That's just as good as Hendrix taking the Star Spangled Banner and making it interesting again.
RT's basically written this song a million times: "I'm bad news, honey, stay away, I can't love anyone and I'll just crush you." But it seems fresh and heartbreaking almost every time. Example number 134,786 here.
What's your favorite this month? I'm going with "Happy Days and Auld Lang Syne". It grows on you with repeated listenings. I think it will be my request at the Montalvo show in December.
Because I have been talked down to by other RT fans who say "I don't know anyone who doesn't immediately love Linda!" They say I'm the only one, and that I'm insane.
People shouldn't give you negative points for your point of view. It's funny how people thing his best work was with Linda, but they adore Vincent Black Lightning. That was recorded ten years after the split.
Hm, now that I've read the lyric, I might have misinterpreted it because of a few misunderstood phrases. This is more in the "I just had my heart torn out of my chest" genre.
My favorite song by a phenomenal artist who is greatly unappreciated
what a frickin genius songwriter musician this guy is
Like many of his songs, it grows on you, the more you hear it.

It's Thompson, Richard Thompson, not Johnson. But yes, he's brilliant, no argument there!
This resonates with me like I’ve heard it before but I know I havnt
That goes to show it’s a thing of a beauty.
Thank you Richard Thompson
🙏🏼
definitely top five RT favourite tracks for me

ATTN: Great bands and singers of the world: Do several covers of this song! Blanket the world with such artistic brilliance!

I have 20 in my 10 favorite rt songs
My 2nd favorite RT song.

I have been listening to this song since it came out and I never noticed that.. I guess that means, like Hendrix, he made it his own!
Let me put in a vote for "The Ghost of You Walks": talk about exquisite craftsmanship . . . And then there's the perfect arrangement on the album version: whose breath doesn't stop when that bowed bass comes in on the "Blue murder on the dancefloor" section?
"Sweetheart on the Barricade" from "Industry" is pretty much an unbeatable example of song crafting.
Funny how he can take something as worn out as Goldilocks, put it in a personal perspective, and make it a great song. That's just as good as Hendrix taking the Star Spangled Banner and making it interesting again.

Good thing RT insisted the boy child learn the dulcimer and not just the guitar. He was thinking ahead.

Dimming Of The Day.
No comments from me about this one.
Hi Melanie. Hi Robby.
Me, I'm looking for that "Hand of Kindness."
Hm, now that I've read the lyric, I might have misinterpreted it because of a few misunderstood phrases. This is more in the "I just had my heart torn out of my chest" genre.
He is undiluted
Yep . . . good with that one also. Not to mention Waltzing's For Dreamers and Mingus Eyes.
Is he in DADGAD?
Has Warren Zevon - My Shit's Fucked Up vibe
How so?
This version is even better than the ablum
is he crying :(
scottish tv love them closeups, eh?
LOL "somewhere in 1999". Too right, who the fuck cares where this beautiful song was performed? I miss Danny.
