Dang son! Taking it up a notch. Well done! I'm just glad we got an inch of rain for free down south today!
Just picked up to of those orbits sprinklers to add to my collection. Great recommendation.
Great vid and thanks for the update! I just mapped out my yard and put together a plan for a fall reseed. Right now I am trying a late spring reseed (fingers crossed) in Michigan. Trying to sneak in a few weeks of growth while night time temps are still chilly. Anyway, this seems like the best solution to help me from looking like a lunatic and being totally exhausted at the end of the day with moving around my manual system every 3 hrs. For a 5K square foot yard, all in I am looking at around 275$. 4 new orbits, 4 new hoses and the 4 station timer. I am not totally starting from scratch as I have a few old school impact sprinklers that I can use already as well as 2 50 foot hoses. So a little upfront cost that I will be willing to justify come fall. Right now, I am committed to what I am doing and do not want to spend another 300 bucks at the Home DEPOT. This looks a lot more simple than Ryan Knorr's version, albeit a little more manual, but less complicated and costly. Nice easy system my man.
Good video. I know the above ground sprinkler system all to well. I went the route of using mp rotators which work really well as they give really good coverage.
You are correct on not buying everything up front. It takes some time to figure out what works best and also easy to setup.
Great video. Getting a friend set up with a few of these.
I have these same sprinklers. 19 total for my entire yard I have a max of 5 on a zone with no issues . And I have them ran along the drive way . Sixe walks and rock beds and leave them for the entire summer on orbit timers works amazing. Great video Jake. Oh yes I have 25 foot hoses in between each head
This was an awesome video going to buy some now and start getting my yellow lawn greener
Thats dedication, good video.
2nd. Nice video, well explained, great edits!
Get the Orbit Tripod Sprinkler. The legs make for easy adjustment to change coverage. No more spiking into dry or saturated lawn. Up to 3 of them now. Love em.
Really got me thinking about first time sprinkler install. Which usually results in low coverage issues like you describe that are significantly harder to adjust than tweaking hoses and heads. Maybe good to first lay an above ground hose based system, tinker with it, then commit to underground? Thanks Jake!!
JTLK goin down to the good ol Nards home store, you guys have a ton more irrigation stuff than our store has that’s for sure! I ended up getting a bunch of melnor rotor sprinklers on a spike from meijer they had a better selection if you can believe it. My melnor 4 way hose end timer is working great. I’m getting 3 more sprinklers this week that I’m building custom for a very long and narrow area. Doing a huge renovation next weekend so I’m going to be watering a crap ton soon. Good info man!
I know it costs alot Jake but put in underground sprinkler system you'll never look back buddy. Great videos
Your thoughts on them orbit sprinklers? Seems really easy to adjust to the need. Maybe adding a quick connect between the hose and sprinkler?
Do you connect the hoses everytime you water your lawn and how many hoses are you using?
I picked up a few of these orbit heads. Thinking of using the rainbird that comes on the BigSprinkler instead. Thoughts?
Hey Jake. Which setting on the orbit do you think gets you the most coverage? I just purchased 4 of these.
do you have tall fescue? I see a lot of shade, but the grass looks amazing.
Thanks for this. I’m trying to figure out a system for my house but my question do you pull the hoses in every day or no? I ask because won’t the grass burn if the hoses are left on it? I know you’d leave the sprinklers out but just curious on hose management.
Wondering which setting provided the most equal coverage? Just ordered a bunch of those
I want to see the first one you did.
It is interesting watching your thought process through the whole video. I would have put one full circle in the center of the lawn and then the other 4 to fill in the corners like you have. That is just me. Also a liquid called hydratrain which helps the plants and lawn retain the moisture.
I like that actually. That's what I have in my current set up now
dang what type of water pressure do you have to run multiple of these. i could never and my grass suffers for it geez
How do you account for the area directly under and around the heads themselves?
Do you just have 2 sprinklers connected to both ends of the sprinkler head? I’m assuming that’s what the other capped end allows?
Thought you recommended 3/4 over 5/8 inch hose?
Water is not coming out of my second head. What am I doing wrong? Should I remove the mesh basket? My hose extension has some water leaking at the connection but not sure if that’s enough for the second head to have no water coming out. I saw you turn one head off in the video how did you do that? TIA
Was that clover next to your measuring cup??
Would you recommend burying the hoses below the dirt?
Crazy hot and dry in New York this summer..Tough to keep the lawn gree.n. Still think watering 3x per week is the way to go?
Here you go... ruclips.net/video/-yncGvyyTB8/видео.html
Hey what brand is that 4 way sprinkler timer??? I need one bad
Jake, how is the project lawn doing that you and LCN worked on last fall?
I will be updating it later on. Stay tuned!
Jake, revisiting your videos. Do you keep the hose out or do you put them away after a certain period? I was just wondering because you had a lot of hoses on the lawn and was wondering if the grass starts dying. Thanks. RJ
This is a great question As I've never really touched on it before. Typically what I do is I'll have to set up the sprinklers in between mowings and then after my watering day I'll roll all the hoses up. So every day that I have to water I have to set everything up the night before.
@@JakeTheLawnKid . Okay, thanks. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
Got to water that boulevard Jake.
What is your water pressure
Is this over kill for a small ,3000 sq foot yard ?
Where could i purchase these sprinklers?
Sorry one more post, and you could have covered that whole yard with one of these, Melnor XT Turbo Oscillating Sprinkler, waters up to 3,700 sq.ft.
any way to shorten the hose to each? and better yet, Hide them? I just cant stand the sight of hoses laying all over, especially when it comes to Mowing day.
With this setup it's really meant to be rolled up on mowing day.
Why didn't u go the quick snap route so u can mow over them
Song called at 1:10
Why won’t it oscillate?
Only arrogant DB's park across the sidewalk like that. Jake, I'm wondering if a couple oscillating sprinklers wouldn't cover that front yard?
You can’t speak on the car when you have no context; I have a small driveway which means I’m tight for space. Especially with my future trailer on one half of my driveway. The reason the car is parked like that sometimes is so I can get my lawn equipment out of the garage without stressing the lawn with additional foot traffic. As far as the sprinklers, probably if I move them around, which I’m not willing to do.
@@JakeTheLawnKid I thought you blocked the driveway so you can setup your sprinklers and do the video without worrying about soaking innocent pedestrians ;)
I don't care so much for that Orbit sprinkler. Mainly because with the very high water pressure I have from the city caused the water to come out of the head as more of a spray rather than a stream. In other words a lot of mist to blow in the wind and evaporate. In fact my water pressure is so much that the battery operated Melnor timer couldn't open it's valves. I ended up getting an RV brass water pressure regulator rated at 40-50 psi. The stream out of the orbit was much less "misty" afterwards. Needless to say I'm going to have a plumber come put a regulator on the main coming into the house. If I have that much pressure I'm worried about stress on the plumbing in the house. I believe the standard is 60psi or so to be safe for plumbing fixtures.
Buy 5/8 hose in bulk. Continental rubber is the best. it will last a lifetime buy fittings and have custom hoses. any other hose is junk, HD has 50 ft for 30 bucks.
Very disappointed w/ my tripod unit. No longer oscillates. 2 years x 30 weeks x 3 days per week x 2 hr / day = 360 hours of operation, doesn't sound like that meet retail consumer durability standards. Further it does not appear that I can use the old tripod and simply replace the head. Did enjoy it while it lasted--not happy anymore.
😳
You need to cut off all that excessive hose if you made the hose between the heads the exact month you could have 3 heads per zone of the orbit ALSO 3/4" hose bro. Sure I know it will cost more. I was making irrigation systems like you're doing before you were a twinkle in your dad's eye. Back then I used Nelson brand plastic impact sprinklers because they didn't require a lot of pressure
I agree if you don't have built in irrigation use the concept of built in irrigation with hose lengths cut to fit between each sprinkler head for optimum pressure. One will lose pressure in hose length.
Save Big Money at Menard's
I wouldnt worry as much about water spots on the car, as much as parking on the sidewalk. Tsk, tsk that's a ticketable offense.
Agreed. Comment after comment and still does it. Pointless to keep saying it
Maybe don't block the sidewalk.
..... why do you show your house number? XD
Jake, I realize that you are doing your best with what you can afford to buy, but, with all the dragging around the hoses and heads and getting yelled at for getting the car wet, maybe it's time to have a discussion with Silverback about an underground irrigation system for your entire yard.
As far as getting the car wet and getting yelled at, maybe Silverback, when asked, would be willing to park on the other side of the driveway or on the street so that the car is farther away from the sprinkler heads when tou are watering the larger side of your front yard.
