GI Joe must have Snake Eyes, but I'm tired of Bumblebee. If they went a version more like the original toy and his file card, that would be sweet. Though this is kind of the movie and Prime version.
The energon universe has been a breath of fresh air. The writing, the art, just great. If I were Tom Brevoort, I'd call a meeting of the X-Men writers, Slam a couple of copies of Transformers and Duke on the table and tell them, THIS is what we need to be doing!!
I never read a single G.I Joe or Transformers comic book because I never was close with Hasbro cartoon franchises, in my childhood, but I'm very happy in to see there are life outside Marvel and DC in nowadays. Image new comic lines deserves more love.
Scarlett and jinx aren't in a relationship kelly thompson cleared the air about that on her newsletter. i never got that feeling after reading it anyway I'm hoping snake eyes gets a mini when the scarlett mini is over, I can't wait to read the gi joe series in November getting it as a belated birthday present to myself since it comes out a day later
Yes Bro making Snake Eyes's Girlfriend a lesibian is a weird choice. I hope Josh or some good writer and artist would tell a new fresh take on snake eyes. I want him to speak in this continuity and I want him to be a white American. that's What I want. Let's hope at SDCC they announce Snake Eyes's Return in his solo title like Duke.
Yeah, in the comic, Scarlett keeps describing her relationship with Jinx as being like sisters. Now, we're about thirteen years past "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and Kelly Thompson written comics with same sex relationships. If Scarlett and Jinx were in a relationship, then I feel like Scarlett would have just come out and said it. Plus, according to another interview Thompson did, she's a supporter of Scarlett/Snake Eyes, and not so subtly implied she wants to write how they meet/hook up.
I'm a Transformers guy and barely knew who any of the G.I.Joe characters where but am getting all of the Energon books because they (for the most part) are good. As far as your question about if someone would be able to read one and the not the other I think it's possible but it's still a bit hard and honestly. For example both the plot of the Duke and Cobra Commander series really got kicked off as a result of the events of the transformers series. This universe has exactly 22 single issue floppies so far and it already feels like people who choose to only read there preferred property are already getting an "incomplete" experience if they don't at least read summaries of the books there not buying. I think this is fine as long as the Energon Universe stays lean. Starting November it will be just the 3 ongoings G.I.Joe, Void Rivals and Transformers. If they keep it to that while occasionally releasing a couple of miniseries here and there I think they'll be fine. But if they expand to much to quickly it'll fail. For example I was loving reading all the spawn books when there were only 4 titles but then todd just kept announcing new ones and I started cutting back until I dropped it entirely. Even household names like X-Men can't get away with it. That said Kirkman has constantly proven he knows what He's doing so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise
They better not fumble this now after a year of great world building. And yes, make it interconnected. Those that don’t want that can go read the Larry Hama run, I hear it’s good. The whole point of an “Energon Universe” is to have all of it connected to create a much larger story.

Skybound just completed a 3.8 million dollar Kickstarter campaign for hardcover omnibus reprints of Larry Hama's original Gi Joe: ARAH run. Good on you Wes for mentioning the Kickstarter campaign at the end of this video. Why have you not made another video about the Kickstarter campaign? As a G.I.Joe fan since it first came out i do not think you could ask for a better story than what they did with the Duke & Cobra Commander series. The normal Joe run is still great as well. I am also really enjoying the new Thundercats comic.
Re: About the G.I. movies ...... As a collector who started when Joe was a "12 inches" tall action figure, I loved "G.I. Joe Retaliation". Bruce Willis truly was my G.I.Joe (Joe Colton) come to life, and The Rock really stepped up as a real American hero! YO JOE‼️. CC 🦅🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸
Dan Watters might not be a big name, but he's made a good impression on me, in a few concurrent minis out right now. As you mention, he's writing Destro, but he's also collaborating with Ram V on Universal Monsters Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! and The Six Fingers, both really good minis worth checking out.
"Fans of comics should be excited about the Energon Universe." Why? We know how this is going to go. We all know it. The same place it always goes. The Scarlett book was a preview, so you can't claim ignorance when you give this series success and then the daggers are revealed.
Snake Eyes is the best and GOAT. I don't want him to be replaced. I just Want Joshua Willaimson and Tom Reilly to do Snake Eyes book completely rebooting his origin.
I am excited amd i hope they stay away from Snake Eyes for a long time. Keep away from the BIG characters so that you can create great stories for others. This is something DWJ could bring to X-Men but obviously Marvel would need a complete overhaul for something like that to happen.
Given that Megatron is not yet a player and Stormshadow is my favourite... I will continue playing the waiting game. That Scarlet comic already tarnished the Arishikage so my scepticism is rising. I am also not big on mixing these two ips. It may become crossover and cameo central.
Thompson is a successful writer with a few Eisner nominations and a win. Scarlet has been good so far. Genuinely can’t see the origin of the hate. Worse is people looking for things to hate. It’s a good action book.
I did not read the G.I.Joe side so far, but I got the TPB of transformers. And for a transformers incline fan I give it a tums up. It is mostly the same as mostly all the transformer tv series. The characters are iconic and the story is just a well set alternate vision or possibility of what could have been. In fact, I see the transformer comic as a actualisation of the transformers introductions, one that is more 21st century. In fact , it is a group of titles that I hope will keep on their hype, but time will tell. But that leave the big question. Does a inspiring groupe of title can hold their spot on shelf in the highly ideologically market like the current comic book industry ?
I'd like "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" to stand on their own, while having no problem that they exist in the same world, which sometimes would allow for some cross-over. Snake Eyes is my favorite Joe, so if he is not part of the new book, I will pass on it. I don't want him removed or replaced.
It’s the only good one, that first scene with Blackout at the military base was one of the coolest scenes I’ve ever seen, but all the rest of the movies are terrible.
@InfamyOrDeath-__- agreed, I also like that there were multiple stories and characters that eventually collided. Was really cool to see the characters interact and the different pieces come together.
I thought that new character you were taking about was Spirit since he looks Native American but his outfit is so drastically different so it might not be him. I don't know who that Cobra Sniper chick is though.
I wrote and drew my own Transformers comic from around the time of the 1986 movie until January 2011 (I just checked the completion date out of curiosity). 85 issues, plus a few extra side stories. So I’ve always been a Transformers guy, rather than GI Joe. I’d prefer not to have to read both to understand the one I’m interested in.
I loved Transformers more than GI Joe too. But I knew GI Joe lore much better because the comics were more coherent at least while Hama was writing it.
I would like to see a Saturday Morning Adventures G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero 🇺🇸 comic book that takes place in the other dimension that is a dystopian, post-apocalyptic, post-cataclysmic, alternate, divergent, parallel universe from the episodes of the 1980s animated television series called "Worlds Without End" Part 1 and 2. A science-fiction story with that Planet Earth would make a good sci-fi comic book that could go into a whole new direction.
Well eventually see bumblebee and snake eyes at some point but skybound still has to answer to hasbro and im sure that hasbro has guidelines and prob has told them to hold off on certain characters
I thought Skybound was already publishing a GI Joe book that picked up the numbering from the old marvel series, written by the OG, or is this a different series?
“GIJoe is even more popular than Superman right now” … dude 😂 chill out. Now and then you go overboard with the hyperbole. Getting Bumblebee out of the way was a strategic move. They KNEW very well they were gonna be cucking Spike, crippling him, basically making him a second fiddle to that fkn girlboss character in Transformers. So yeah, they didn’t want to establish that iconic friendship between Bumblebee and Spike. The same thing with SnakeEyes… he’s been set aside to make way for Scarlet to take his place. Even robbing SnakeEyes’ arch nemesis Stormshadow. I’m telling you this whole feminist, give girls more shine agenda running rampant in comics, movies and even video games is a game changer, in a shitty way that is. It’s been a fkn disaster. No matter subtle they try to be with it. It becomes obvious very quick, all over the medium.
I'm only collecting transformers and I'd hate for them to integrate the books so much they couldn't be read separately. Hasbro tried this before with idw and it sucked.
I agree with this review. All GI Joe Titles except Scarlett has been great. Cobra Commander was my favorite, Duke was a close second, and Destro was enjoyable. Jinx and Storm Shadow are some of my favorite characters in all GI Joe, but the execution on Scarlett's Book isn't working for me. Also agreed with the concept of Transformers vs GI Joe. As much as I enjoy both franchises, the Transformers outclass the GI Joe Talent. The only way I could think of pulling that off would be several Joes against a Transformer.
What you said about Scarlett when she first saw Jinx " oh my God she looks so good, I need to control myself" is not true, not at all not even the idea is shown in the panels, not even using different wods, what really happens is she sees the symbol on Jinx leg, she knows she has seen it before, but cant pinpoint where, then Jinx turns her face and Scarlett recognizes her, an thinks: is Jinx! what is she doing here? the panel shows Scarletts face as surprised because JInx is been missing for 2 years. The whole " i cant control myself" is not even close.
Gay coding scarlett was a big mistake since jinx other then the animated movie hasn't been a important character and also making the ninja clan gun runners isn't part of the lore. ..I see why snake eyes wasn't in it since his lore his heavily influence by the Vietnam war but even sgt rock got updated to present day in the dcu.....the other thing maybe they are going to let Larry hama do a snake-eyes mini series since he did create his character and bio card on the figure...and also the only other character not seen yet is zartan....another ninja clan member who was a part of killing the blind master with firefly..
This doesn't look good. Why is Baroness a Joe??? I thought of a much better way to do a Hasbro universe. DDP teamed up the franchises, and it was cool.
The soft Bigotry of Low Expectations.... They don't have to work hard, because there is no expectations for a good comic book. They have brainwashed themselves into thinking they have an ounce of talent. It's no expectations of standards at all.
For the crossover: weaken the Transformers. Make them take as much damage from bullets and grenades the same as a standard car or truck would take. Bullets can rip through Transformers and damage their inner workings. grenades can blast chucks of their legs and bodies apart. Strengthen the Joes and Cobra with energon based weaponry.
i wouldn't be surprise if they try to pass scarlet as the new snake eyes. Hard pass on that. Stick to what work best in the 80's and early 90's joes. Don't try to "modernized" G.I. JOE for an audience that doesn't buy comics, these fans only want to infiltrate and destroy from within . Cater to your fans who has been following G.I. JOE from their beginning all the way to special missions and reprints of Tales of G.I. JOE Knowing this will be half the battle and i'll wait for the other half and see.
You keep talking like you've already read all of Scarlett by saying "Scarlett WAS a weird story". It's only got two issues out so far! Sheesh! Let the other three issues come out before you talk about it in the past tense.
The energon universe is gi joe for normies. Gi joe arah is already the gi joe comic gi joe fans have been waiting for. It's superior to the woke energon gi joe in every single way.

Its NOT Hard for the Original G1 cartoon to be Adapted into a Series of Films.
They could Be At BEAST WARS by Film FOUR as Some Gimmicks can OVERLAP in this Film release schedule.
But it HAS TO Make SENSE and Nobody at Hasbro is Making the Effort to Make it Work.
But the Licensee here GETS IT and is Essentially Making Their Movie Worthy New G1 Based Timeline as They'd Wanna See it.
Take a LOOK at the First Wave of G1 toys for Autobots and Decepticons, then the Brief Character Overviews to get an idea of WHAT they can DO.
Everything Seen on thise Profiles was USED in the Cartoon and Added Great VARIETY to the action. A d the Best the Movies have come up with a just Blasters and Missiles popping outta Nowhere. A SCANT Few examples of Abilities yes but the IMBALANCE in Character Focus, Good Guys and Bad Guys, the Cartoon TIME LIMITATIONS made for Colorful, Character Filled Dialogue that was EFFICIENT in Getting out Information and CHARACTER.
Two NEW Films and theres No Banter between Starscream and Megatron. Starscream's Scheming and Back Talk..All the other characters.
We KNOW them ALL because the TIME was Taken to DO that as Each gave Reason to BUY a Toy of the Characters we Liked the most.
Until they MAKE A PLAN with At LEAST a Working SKELETON, None kf this is gonna Work.
I hope we get an awesome storm shadow vs. snake eyes feud. Im looking forward to the new G.I. Joe comic.
I'm glad you felt the same thing. Pretty sure Kelly Thompson is going to have it to where Scarlett and Jinx will have...or have had a "relationship"? I don't know if it was just me, but I got that feeling from the first issue.
The trick is to have self contained stories with each crossover and reference them in the other stories
Im glad they kept going wit the comics after 300
When does Kelly Thompson not fumble? I think she would be flattered if someone called her Dollar Store Jeally Sue Deconnick.
Girlboss Scarlett is an absolute no go. Anything under far left Kirkman is an absolute no go.
As a G.I.Joe fan since it first came out i do not think you could ask for a better story than what they did with the Duke & Cobra Commander series. The normal Joe run is still great as well. I am also really enjoying the new Thundercats comic.
One Transformer could take out all of G.I. Joe and Cobra together.
Re: About the G.I. movies ......
As a collector who started when Joe was a "12 inches" tall action figure, I loved "G.I. Joe Retaliation". Bruce Willis truly was my G.I.Joe (Joe Colton) come to life,
and The Rock really stepped up as a real American hero!
YO JOE‼️. CC 🦅🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸
Destro is a step back in the right direction when held up against Scarlett. I want to see where it goes.
Question of the week. What is your favorite cartoon from the 90s/00s ?
If they end up adding M.A.S.K somehow, I will freak out!! 😂
Well thats what they did in the last universe...mask technology was created from dead autobots and decepticons
That makes sense! Is the last universe worth reading?
@@gavsmi6452 yeah it was basically the hasbro universe....transformers, mask, gi joe, rom, and illusinary knights
@@jameswatkins5483 thanks. Might have to check it out. Was it IDW?
@@gavsmi6452 i cant remember....it.may have been hasbros own comic line
Bring back Tunnel Rat
I am a Transformers Fan but really enjoyed Duke and Cobra Commander because of Joshua williamson. I like Gi joe because of Snake Eyes.
I didn't realize G.I. Joe: ARAH was off-continuity!
I wouldn't mind reading both Transformers and Gi Joe. But they should do it to where they can be read separately, but we also have void rivals too.
I really like Void Rivals. It’s a new property so I’m ok with whatever you’re doing with the lore.
RAH has been my favorite ongoing of the year. I really hope this doesn't sideline that book.
GOOOOOO JOE!!!
Man, I tell ya Wes. If they have Tini Howard write The Baroness I will give up on this whole thing.
Maybe he is Noah Diaz
At the end of the last Transformers movie he was tecluded for GI Joe
maybe th guy in the siut is lowlight the master sniper also I really thought they'd make at least 2 more before launching the main series
"Fans of comics should be excited about the Energon Universe."
Why?
Awesome work mate
Given that Megatron is not yet a player and Stormshadow is my favourite... I will continue playing the waiting game. That Scarlet comic already tarnished the Arishikage so my scepticism is rising. I am also not big on mixing these two ips. It may become crossover and cameo central.
I want Deep Six to get more love. He's my favourite Joe.
Thompson is a successful writer with a few Eisner nominations and a win. Scarlet has been good so far. Genuinely can’t see the origin of the hate.
Worse is people looking for things to hate. It’s a good action book.
Love the cover
Also the is a new blonde baroness character on the cover too
I'd like "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" to stand on their own, while having no problem that they exist in the same world, which sometimes would allow for some cross-over. Snake Eyes is my favorite Joe, so if he is not part of the new book, I will pass on it. I don't want him removed or replaced.
The first Transformers movie from Michael Bay is the best one. Felt the most epic.
@@AL-ws5yi Bob Budiansky came up with great characters for the Transformers, but they didn’t really develop a lore until Simon Furman came along.
I’ll stick with Void Rivals and Transformers.
The jury is still out on GI Joe for me. I can always get it in trades later.
Will Image aquire TMNT at some point? I hope so.
they actually already had a run on tmnt same with gi joe
Gi Joe has been great
Well eventually see bumblebee and snake eyes at some point but skybound still has to answer to hasbro and im sure that hasbro has guidelines and prob has told them to hold off on certain characters
I thought Skybound was already publishing a GI Joe book that picked up the numbering from the old marvel series, written by the OG, or is this a different series?
They picked up the numbering from the IDW run and they are making it separate from the Energon Universe.
I wonder if Skybound will reprint Gi Joe cobra civil war? I can’t wait GI Joe
I love gi joe...I really don't want it ever to get super popular like star wars. If it does...rip gi joe
Image Skybound has my money🤑
I liked some of it but not making it a separate continuity was super lazy
Gay coding scarlett was a big mistake since jinx other then the animated movie hasn't been a important character and also making the ninja clan gun runners isn't part of the lore. ..I see why snake eyes wasn't in it since his lore his heavily influence by the Vietnam war but even sgt rock got updated to present day in the dcu.....the other thing maybe they are going to let Larry hama do a snake-eyes mini series since he did create his character and bio card on the figure...and also the only other character not seen yet is zartan....another ninja clan member who was a part of killing the blind master with firefly..
maybe jw left all them dc titles for GI JOE
Hey
They could introduce MASK, Action Man, and Rom. Would neat to see the inhumanoids. Keep Visionaries out of it.
This doesn't look good. Why is Baroness a Joe??? I thought of a much better way to do a Hasbro universe. DDP teamed up the franchises, and it was cool.
It would suck if I have to read one comic to understand another.
Love emergency. Universe but still prefer the hamsters which is still going on
I think Snake Eyes will end up being the ultimate reveal of the Scarlett mini series. It's just a shame it has to happen under such a bad writer.
Crossing over too much got us the IDW expanded Hasbro universe and that was terrible.
They are going to make Jinx Scarlett's girlfriend, watch. They already hinted at it in the book.
DevilsDue Publishing was amazing. IDW had good stuff. I’m kinda standoff ish with Skybound. The art is so bland and lacks detail.
i wouldn't be surprise if they try to pass scarlet as the new snake eyes. JOE
Knowing this will be half the battle and i'll wait for the other half and see.
You keep talking like you've already read all of Scarlett by saying "Scarlett WAS a weird story". It's only got two issues out so far! Sheesh! Let the other three issues come out before you talk about it in the past tense.
@@davidjames468 It's most definitely past tense for me. There are only a few comics Important enough for me to read when they're this bad.
See, crossovers is good when they are made not by woke imbicilines.
The energon universe is gi joe for normies. Gi joe arah is already the gi joe comic gi joe fans have been waiting for. It's superior to the woke energon gi joe in every single way.
The Larry Hama title is not woke?
Nah I’ll pass on anything American warfare even GI-da-Joe 👎 no thanks or Red Coat … Boring 🤭
Such a dumb idea combining the franchises. I'm not even remotely interested in these books.
@@TheUnseenFenianHand I appreciate Wes, and watched approximately 3 mins of the video. Enough to realize the waste. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my comment though👍
