It's definitely nemesis enforcer with thr strength and size. This issue was great and glad to see they are making something for the adults that grew up with gi joe and transformers with an adult tone
They are not messing around! I guess it makes sense, though - if you're going to use a chainsaw as a weapon, it's realistically going to wreck somebody hard.
Didn’t have any of this context while reading so it was interesting to hear about more about the dreadnoks and their history. The GI Joe series have been fun because each issue is enjoyable on its own but then I can hear from others what some of the connections and previous incarnations are like. Also just realized we’re on a ride of getting weekly energon universe content for a little while here
Yeah, I can see the series being fun on their own for readers who don't have much of a background with G.I. Joe, although if I didn't already know about Cobra-La, I can say I would be a little confused, personally. As for the weekly titles - it seems like not that long ago that I was impatiently waiting for the next issue of Void Rivals to come out and Transformers #1 was still months away. Pretty cool to see where we're at now. The floodgates have been opened!
I loved the 87 movie and appreciated the cobra la idea. Nemesis enforcer was the coolest character in gi joe. Never was able to get his toy unfortunately when I was a kid. Great video as usual. Keep em coming man cheers
Thank you - appreciate the comment and glad you're digging the videos! Nemesis Enforcer was definitely very cool. I never had that toy either...I don't even think any of my friends had him for that matter, so he was just a character I knew from the movie.
I only got into g.i. joe because of the energon universe and rise of the beasts, and i'm actually enjoying both duke and cobra Comander aside from them being in a massive tf-g.i. joe crossover
I really enjoyed this issue! Definitely had a better grasp of what was going on here than before. Loved that ending with the energators especially! Once again, the Cobra-La technology really reminds me of the Yuuzhan Vong from Star Wars. It could just be my familiarity with such things, but I initially read the starfish surgery to be closer to an ooglith cloaker, a creature that acts as a living disguise. The teeth coming toward the Nemesis Enforcer remind me of the first passage describing the cloaker, where thousands of little teeth force their way into the pores of the Vong warrior’s skin. Gnarly stuff, and something that could really set this apart from Duke if they continue to play with the body horror stuff.
Dang, that living disguise thing sounds really cool! I would definitely not complain if this comic incorporated something like that... The energators were easily the biggest "oh damn" moment in the book for me. Curious about what's going to go down with them.
the idea of local wildlife being mutated by an energy gives me serous giant golden Firaxan progenitor flashbacks from Kotor's Manaan level. The Guardian being mutated in Nemeses enforces by Energon is a good idea, the general exposure to Energon to biological life is something that doesn't get touched upon a lot in series. The only time I can think of where human cam in contact with Energon was in Transformers Prime and Raf got hit with Dark Energon. I'm interested in to see how much interaction with the Duke series Cobra Commander's mini series will have in the end.
Interesting, I forgot about the thing with Raf in TF Prime, but it's been a while since I've seen it. I'm curious about the interaction between the 2 mini-series as well, or if they'll stay mostly separate until all the mini-series converge (I assume) into whatever the ongoing G.I. Joe comic will be.
@@Moonbase3 That's the big question, the outline for the Energon Universe being 2 ongoing and 2 mini-series but what is to say that the Autobot join the in the foundation of G.I.Joe and bring both the Joe and Autobots under on comic line, Devil's Due and IDW managed such a thing in their time with both franchises.
That's true! We don't know for sure how the franchises/characters will be distributed among what titles. I just assumed it would be a clear, easy split, but Skybound has demonstrated that they like to keep us guessing and throw in surprises, so they could very well go in an unexpected direction.
Thank you, I appreciate that, as always! 😁 I'm wondering where Zartan is...I think he has to show up soon, because, like you said, he's the leader, after all. And I would be very happy to see Croc Master make an appearance!!
Throwing out my own theory Cobra Commander’s bodyguard is Serpentor. As it’s common that Serpentor often forms his own inner group within Cobra. Plus the movie Serpentor was the result of Cobra-La making the perfect specimen
Great review! Just subscribed. Huge G.I. Joe fan going back to the '80's. Read issues 1 & 2 of both Duke and Cobra Commander. I loved every bit of each series and can't wait to see where they take these two stories. My ONLY issue with both series is I wish they were just a couple pages longer. Seems like it flys by too fast. Great review though and I will look forward to watching your reviews as I catch up on issues 3-5 on both series.
@@Moonbase3 Just finished Duke! One of the best G.I. Joe stories I've read in recent times. Loved every second. Great plot and exceptional artwork. Can't wait to see where they take this! Next up I'm reading Cobra Commander, Void Rivals, and Transformer's 1-6
@@havis-gf5mz Awesome to hear! I think it's a really great series, glad you dug it as well. You've got some really fun stuff ahead with the other titles! :)
When I first read the issue I was half-asleep and thought that the flashback was saying that megatron was somehow turned into the guy who's with Cobra Commander
Yeah after this issue I don't think the mysterious bodyguard is Grunt. Mostly because I don't think they could make him a good guy easily after killing that Police Officer. And like you I am curious to see how the larger implications of Energon mutating organic life plays out. Considering it's implied that the Agorrians and Zertonians use Energon as well, I'm really starting to see why Kirkman's branded this as "The Energon Universe". Everything comes back to it somehow.
Excellent point about the officer! I hadn't considered that complication. And yeah, the reason behind the Energon Universe name is starting to come into clearer focus. I'm guessing things will continue to escalate across the titles in such a way that it'll really go to some wild places...I imagine it's this angle that's going to make this continuity a lot different than others that came before.
The mutated alligators are a little weird to me, because since Beast Wars it's canon that energon has zero effect on organic life forms. But it's a different universe with a different take on it so anything could happen. Kryptonit was also totally safe for humans until it gave cancer to Luthor.
It's definitely nemesis enforcer with thr strength and size. This issue was great and glad to see they are making something for the adults that grew up with gi joe and transformers with an adult tone
Yeah, I like what they're doing with their G.I. Joe books so far!

Skybounds comics seriously feel like original cartoons but made for a more adult audience. Im loving it
That's very true! I'm digging it as well.
The Dreadnoks are no joke here. That chainsaw scene is crazy!
They are not messing around! I guess it makes sense, though - if you're going to use a chainsaw as a weapon, it's realistically going to wreck somebody hard.
Love the Dreadnocks and the thunder machine, the meanest machine you've ever seen and it's out to get GIJoe
This is The Cobra Commander I Knew He Could Be 🔥 Its Nemesis Enforcer. COBRAAAAAAAA
I'm liking this take on the character so far!

Energon acting as Mutagen to organics would be a neat spin on things.

I don’t know anything about GI Joe but I was watching these video and I read these two issues and it’s been pretty cool honestly
That's awesome - glad to hear there's some appeal for people who aren't long-time fans of the franchise!

Cobra is that dude as DANGEROUS, Gi Joe states it.
Energon affecting other living creatures works well for me.

With Skybound's love of ripping apart bodies, I'd be amazed if Jazz doesn't get ripped in half
Fingers crossed it doesn't happen! We just got him back!

I think there's a good chance!

Well Croc master will needs to have some balls of steel to train these giant mutant aligators.
Interesting 🧐🤔
4:20 what is this? The Dreadnoks are cannibals?
Good question! I just assumed they were feeding the gators, but I guess we'll see!
@@Moonbase3 I hope it is just for the gators, because the Dreadnoks as a Leatherface family would be too much for me.

🤣
Why would it be grunt?????
Cobra Commander referred to him as "grunt" in the first issue, so that started some speculation online.

What if the Energon at the bottom of swamp was Dark Energon
That could be cool!
Grunt? Zartan? No
It's not looking likely!
