Made this bag yesterday. I have never made anything more than a coozie, it turned out lovely.. just one (or 2) mistakes.. putting a sew on snap and a decorative button on at some point!! Thanks so much.
Thank you so much Debbie. I am an absolute novice, and can't believe your detailed and accurate instructions have allowed me to make this bag perfectly. It's a gift of love for my Mum who bought me my first sewing machine a few months ago, at my age of 61. It's my way of thanking her. I can't thank you enough Debbie for this special gift for my dear Mum 💕.
Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge in bag making with all of us. I have learned so much from you and so appreciate your video tutorials. The best part is seeing the "joy of sewing" that comes across from you to us!!
You are very generous with your time... Since you have done it real time, we do have a rough idea on how to plan and set a good one hour for this project.... Been following your tutorials for nearly five years now.. Enjoy doing it all.... Thank you so much Debbie!!
Just attempted this bag. Thank you for the really clear instructions. I’ve made two different ones but made one with a slightly longer strap to wear cross body. Tried to upload a photo but not sure how to do that. Thanks again Debbie from a new sewer. I have made a few of your designs now and learning so much. Denise X
Ive just made this with a pink fabric (outer) and a strawberry patterned fabric (contrast) and I absolutely love the way it turned out. I still consider myself a beginner and I didn’t struggle with this! Thank you 😊
Thank you, Debbie, for all of your time and expert knowledge. It’s fun making the things that you so generously teach us to do. Your love of sewing as well as teaching shines in your videos. Thanks again. I’m going to love making this bag.
Love the tutorials and pleased you mentioned that you can tack the zip in by hand before you machine stitch. I tack/baste a lot more than most people as I find it makes for more accurate sewing, it takes time but it’s easier to unpick than machine stitching! ❤️
Hi Debbie - Perfect tutorial. I learn something new with every video. Had never thought to sew the strap ends together like you did. It makes for a clean strap and is easy to do. Love the size and design of this bag. I only do crossbody bags and I will be making one like this. Your tutorials are always easy to understand and you give great sewing tips. Have a great week ahead. 💕🧵🌼
4/17/22: I am whipping them out like crazy, Debbie, following your tutorials on totes and purses. I just finished making this one and my goodness, it came out SO nice. It's my first time ever using rectangle squares, and now that I know how to use them, there's no stopping me in making other purses/totes that requires them. You make it easy because of your easy-to-follow instructions. Thanks again for yet another wonderful project.
My granddaughter loved her messenger bag at Christmas; working on my second, a gift for a gal pal's birthday. Love sewing again after a long, long break. I'm hooked! Thanks Debbie!
This is the first bag I have made. Thanks for making it easy to follow. It turned out really well, and I learned so much. I have now bought some nice fabric and going to make a bigger one. Once I can bring myself to cut the fabric. Thanks again.
Hi Debbie just finished making my first bag using yours and 2 other you tubers designs, to personalise my own bag with more pockets. And larger bag, you make it look so simple my young Grandaughter wants me to make her one now.
Debbie It's Pamie from NY. I just finished this lovely bag. I love it I was needing a bag for a trip back home and all I had made were to small. I thought I give this one a go. It's perfect for traveling, shopping and dinner out. You have wonderful tutorials they really let a beginner like me look talented to my family and friend. Have a great Day! Cheers
@Pam Harney, hello from Texas. Since you made this bag, could you provide the approx finished measurements. I have 2 teenage neighbor girls I’m thinking of making for Christmas presents. Thank you
Wow, love this. My next project, have made a few of your other designs. Your instructions are so good with easy explanations and great visuals! Thanks!
Made this bag out of pieces I had left over from making a viscose top. I used Decovil light to stabilise the viscose and it worked beautifully. Thank you Debbie for suggesting this on your other bag tutorial with the Venice scene viscose fabric.
Thank you Debbie for another great tutorial. This is going to be my next make after my holiday. Back home now , so starting it theirs week 26th July. I never really knew you could cut a zip until watching you. 🤩
I actually used your tutorial and design and adapted it slightly to make a satchel...and it looks amazing. Thanks for all your videos, they are great 😊
Oh Debbie, I started sewing because of you. You inspired me, and continue to inspire me, so thank you! Please continue with your wonderful videos, as I always learn something new. Can you maybe do a video on a faux leather messenger bag? Lots of thanks, Honda.
I love your bag tutorials, I am really enjoying making the different designs. Thank you! On the off chance that the beautiful fabrics used here may still be available somewhere, do you happen to know the design and who made it please?
Awesome bag! I love it! I think I know what my granddaughter’s will be getting for Christmas this year! Their always wanting a new bag for their things, that will also hold their tablets. And I have 5 granddaughters. But if I use a more boyish fabric my 2 grandsons might want one for their tablet and games also.
Getting ready to make this! Can’t wait to start! Could the fleece be on the inner side of the flap so the magnetic snap be on the stronger side? I’m using canvas, it might not make a difference . But could I?
Me encantan todos sus trabajos Debbie, aunque mi ingles no es muy bueno, entiendo sus explicaciones muy bien. Saludos desde Palma de Mallorca. España. Muchas Gracias-
Hello Debbie. I'm very new to bag making, but making progress using your wonderful tutorials. I've just made up this messenger bag and a matching cross body phone bag for my niece for Christmas this year. However, my other niece has just go a super fab job and I thought I would send her a bag like this to be a laptop bag as she now only has a 200 metre commute to work lucky thing, and doesn't need to take her car. So, can I upsize this messenger bag to become a laptop bag? Would it work? She needs a strap, so the laptop bags I have found on your size may not be the thing without the straps. My Christmas list includes your books BTW! 😁
I just love this bag, just made my tenth, and some profit too😊

OMG! When you ever flipped the ends of straps...how did I never know to do that? I always fold ends in... Thank you!!
Did you add interfacing to all of the pieces that you did not add the fusible fleece to…….love your teaching style
Thank you for explaining. I have eye disease so it really helps.

Fabulous, easy tutorial but what brand is your sewing machine please
This ones an Elna 670

Nice work
Great tutorial
Would it be ok to make the man body of the bag with Bosal for firmer bag?
Debbie could the bag be made with Harris tweed ? I have just finished the backpack.
That would look lovely!
love it. I prefer to draw a square in the corner to make the boxed bottom. Easier to measure and sew especially with all the bulk
Starting to make this bag, 'cause it's so darn cute! :) Btw, what's the size of the magnetic snap, 18mm (3/4")? Thanks!
I used an 18mm snap... glad you like it!
I would love to make but don’t see the instructions for sizes of cut fabric. Thank you
