    Very useful for people like me who literally bought a steamdeck to replace my 8-year-old PC, and then broke the OS within 2 days. 😅
    And as an aside, using a cheap microSD card to re-install your steamOS is a MUCH better option than using a USB-C hub and a flash drive, I don't know what valve was thinking suggesting the latter, but I could have saved myself days of anxiety and about 40 bucks if I had watched this video first. 😔

    When it comes to installing balena, it says target not found. Is this guide still valid? I copied and pasted directly from this video's description
    Edit- downloaded appimage from balena site and clicked "is executable" in the properties menu. This allowed me to run the app natively without console.

    Great tutorial just one problem. After i reimaged my deck, I the sd card would not appear in game mode but when I entered desktop mode it showed with multiple partitions on it. As I tried to unmount them when I tried to unmount the final one it would remount all of the ones I just unmounted. I don't know if I bricked my card or if it is a simple glitch. But either way is there a fix for this or do I need to replace it?

      I am fairly certain that it is overall faster to extract the image before you run the imaging program. I was using rufus but I swear it was like 8 minutes to extract the image and 10 minutes to write it, versus almost 30 minutes to write the image straight from the archive.

    • @CoilWhine

      I haven't tried to install appimages on steam os. If the OS has the right packages it's probably fine, I'm sure you can also flash via command line.

    Dude what the hell. None of you're commands that you are saying to enter work at all. Disable read only. Command not found. Pacman command not found. I don't know exactly what you are doing or how it works. I must be doing something wrong but I'm seriously frustrated because no instructions that I have found anywhere to make a bootable drive for steam os work at all. Not even a little. Every time I use etcher or rufus. It just makes my drive become unreadable.

      We had a similar issue with the zipping/unzipping of the files.
      It worked better if we unzipped it on the desktop before writing it.
      It also depends on the speed of your SD card, though _hours_ seems abnormally long.

    Why use etcher it's known to brick usbs and sd cards

    • @CoilWhine
      @CoilWhine  2 года назад

      Is it? I've never had it cause any problems on my end and I've been using it for years.
      Linux ISOs like to mess up the partition scheme so I run diskpart in the command prompt to clean it up.
      I've had worse luck with rufus honestly, but that's probably just a "me" problem

    • @jcmk3829

      Etcher bricked my 1tb micro sd which i was trying to install the steam os recovery image

    • @CoilWhine
      @CoilWhine  2 года назад

      @@jcmk3829 That's wild. Sorry to hear that, I'm sure that wasn't a cheap replacement.
      Have you tried looking at it in "Disk management" in windows? I've had plenty of ISOs make weird partitions and make the drive appear to be bricked.
      If there's a drive and some partitions there, you need to run diskpart in the CMD and clean the drive up, then recreate a full partition on the drive in disk management to reuse the drive again.
      Sorry if you already tried this, just trying to throw out some help!
