I'm getting this one because of how much I loved my Viltrox 13mm F1.4 on APS-C, however it is a bit heavy for vlogging. I'm currently testing the Samyang 18mm F2.8, it feels like a cheap plastic toy but it's insanely light, lighter than any APS-C lens I ever used and the quality is surprisingly great - so this is my choice for vlogging.
Gonna do my own testing, but dynamic active mode does not crop in 1.5x like your referring. It’s closer to 1.3 but I do have a few lenses and cameras to confirm on my side.
I have found that the info out of Sony is often vague or inaccurate, that’s why I tested with another lens side by side. Report back with your own findings, would be interested to hear. Crop might not actually equal FOV equivalent, which is the way I covered it in this video, ie 16mm becomes 26mm, probably is not be the same as 1.5x crop.
I'm honestly considering the Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G primarily for it's power zoom functionality. And yes it's slow.. But we are taking about a a7siii sensor. I'm also under the impression that the AI tracking actually zooms automatically with the power zoom but I can't confirm.
@@markwiemels A small channel youtuber with this lens said it does though he never showcased the feature so it's certainly possible that it was all clear image zoom and he was simply mistaken.
I had to return the 11mm. Yeah it works kinda with the dynamic stab but when you add a nd filter. You still will see vignetting. You make any sudden moves you’ll see the dark corners. Plus if you decide to take a photo you’ll have to switch lens. If you’re gonna use a apsc lens on the Sony zve1 for vlogging I would say the 15mm 1.4 is a better option.
I think you are right this lens do make sense, I have a question hows this camera z v e1 for pictures? I thinking to get this camera but not sure how good it takes picture?
Long for this lens, finally a decent lens that fills in the blank between 14mm and 20mm. I have a ZV-E10 but found it was very hard to vediotape my 2 two-year old boys. Was wordering if ZV-E1 is going to make it easier?
@@markwiemels Hmm, mathematically, unless I’m misunderstanding something if you take a 16mm and you zoom it 1.5x, it should be 24mm, unless the manufacturer is a bit off with the specs, or something else is going on (like focus breathing compensation)? But I did just try this experimentally, I took a Viltrox 24mm and then a Viltrox 16mm and clear image zoomed it to match the same field of view, and I only had to use 1.4x instead of 1.5x, hmm so for me it seems to give about 25.6mm with clear image zoom, not far off from your experience, strange...
is Sony ZV-E1 have huge overheating problem when shooting 4k30p ? some people advice open the side doors and battery door also, can you try that overheating situation? Thank you.
It’s never overheated on me, even in longer recordings. I have a number of friends that use it for long recordings and have had no issues either. I think the over heating has been overstated.
Too heavy for vlogging in my opinion. Unless by vlogging you mean 3 minutes of recording then 30 minutes break for doing other stuff. Than maybe it's ok. Although I would prefer 14mm F1.8 Sony, but the price :D. The biggest problem is that Sony's IBIS just sux ... if it won't suck 20mm F1.8 will be even OKish.
Yeah, I must admit, my version of vlogging is not pointing the camera at myself, at arms length, for hours on end. It's a little bit of that, and a lot documenting whats going on around me. The new Dynamic active stab is actually mind blowing, but the crop is massive.
@@markwiemels So in that case should be ok. I have to really tame my GAS to not buy this Viltrox lens (and their 28mm :)). But lately got myself S5IIX and 18mm F1.8, and this is really nice vlogging combo. Panasonic IBIS is much better than Sony's, although not ideal :D.
@@JoATTech I love the looks of that Panasonic. I have been watching every video about it, I really don't need another camera, but love the features of that one.
@@markwiemels If you got ZV-E1 and tons of glass then Panasonic S5II/X does not make any sense. For me it got sense mostly because 6k open gate, line in and some other video features. It will probably replace my BMPCC6k. S5IIX seems to have different target group than ZV-E1 or A7IV.
@@JoATTech The open gate is why I'm interested as well, for anamorphic, and reframing youtube videos for vertical. I have a loaner being sent to me for testing, so will see how it goes.

It would be impressive if the PZ lens zoomed on its own. I haven’t seen anything about that, one way or the other.

The Sony e 11mm f1.8 apsc lens is best for blogging on ZVE1
DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK ON THE FULL FRAME ZV E1 it covers the full frame? Like the Sony 10 to 18mm f4 covers the SONY FULL FRAME?
Yes
@@BryanElliott_it works brilliantly.. Use it all the time with additional 10 percent crop

I NEED this lens. Send it over, Mark. SEND IT!!
Was thinking about you when editing, was like wow, I have really made a compelling case here... poor Mark will have fomo for sure.
Fantastic Video, Awesome Channel!
Thanks for your work and time🙏
Greetings from 🇨🇭
Better yet, get both! A prime and a zoom. Zoom for behind the camera and prime for talking head.
I think you are right this lens do make sense, I have a question hows this camera z v e1 for pictures? I thinking to get this camera but not sure how good it takes picture?
16mm become 26mm. That dynmaic ibis crop factor is even larger than apsc 1.5x. It is close to 1.7x. That is crazy.
Who does not need 26mm but more wide, apsc Viltrox 13mm is a great option too (with stabilization).
What about the Sony 1.4 25mm GM?
Love the neon noir background look!
Thanks! The storage room in a basement and some pocket lights.
What lens full frame you use for video youtube to record yourself?
Gotta love dark mode aka the basement. Great looking set and dope af content as always.
Thanks! Just making due with the space that I had, but I was pleased as well. It’s amazing how some cheap pocket lights can transform a scene.
Thanks Mark! Just what I was looking for!
Glad I could help!
Footy looks epic
whats a cheaper 18mm or 14mm. lighter and fast

Well the speed and accuracy of the autofocus is mind blowing, for me, this camera makes everything pretty easy.
What recommendations do you have for a compact camera to gift to an older family member that likes taking photos with her phone during family events?
Canon G7X Mark III
@@markwiemels thank you!
Such great use cases!
The combo has exceeded my expectations for sure.
How did you get to 26mm? - isn't it 21mm with dynamic active and 24mm with clear image zoom at max zoom?
I compared it to an actual lens set at that focal length. It might not bee 100%, but very close.

@@DigiDriftZone Yah, I suspect it might be that the crop calculation should be done on FOV instead of the focal length or something.

Sony 14mm f1.8 is The Lens for this camera….expensive ,but worth it.
you expect me to carry this INTRUSIVE gigantic 'look at me' face bomb around?
That Sony 16-35 is trash. Poorly engineered, delicate, prone to catastrophic failure.
