    I'm waiting for the day that TFL is a 30 minute segment on television. You guys deserve a bigger platform. On a second note, I really don't see the Tundra as an "off road" truck as it's delivered. I would definitely put the Taco and the 4Runner ahead of it. Still seems like a good truck though. Great review. Beautiful views along that route.

    Roman I appreciate you guys taking this time for an adventure and seeing your perspective in three different vehicle on some fairly good backroads. and detailing all the features of each. I would be interested a similar evaluation of similar vehicle in a work environment, oil fields, Alaskan back country, Colorado forestry over a much longer period. Frankly a stereo and TRD badging means squat to me. Dependability, affordability, and consistent resale

    My 2006, 4.7L Tundra TRD is going strong. Only had minor issues that were fixed with normal maintenance. 12 years old and just now broke in w/ only 116,000 miles. Still worth about $10,000 as I baby her.

      TheFive Oh4 dude lets be honest... companies are trying to save gas for many reasons you know them.. why Toyota hasn’t address that? I love the tundra but I can’t buy a truck for work that when I’m carrying or pulling some weight I’m not gonna get 6 miles pre gallon.. if driving at highway speed with perfect conditions gives you at the most 14 or 15? To me it’s crazy... that’s the only reason I won’t get a tundra.. they beautiful and very nice trucks but gas wise! Nop

    • @dicksuckman6122
      @dicksuckman6122 4 года назад

      @@idontcaresapo8233 I guess Toyota's logic would for not improving MPG is because of "reliability". A few Tundra owners I know daily drive beater Prius's since they are decently reliable and get great gas mileage

    Tundra is strong enough to tow space shuttle. Tundra went 1 million miles on one single engine without being rebuild. Tundra seat fabric didn't even worn-out after 1 million miles. Tundra frame lasted 1 million miles. Tundra cab corners lasted one million miles. Tundra exhaust manifold bolts lasted 1 million miles. Tundra engine lasted 1 million miles without blowing spark plugs. Tundra is the only million miles gas truck without problems. To many people focus on looks and forget that looks are deceiving. To many people call reliability is outdated, and favor issues as advanced technology. I know truth hurts, but it's reality.

    I recently bought a 2006 Tundra Crewmax SR5 4x4 and according to the stats (I haven't personally measured it yet), it has a massive 12.3' of ground clearance. Took it off-roading on some pretty rough, rocky trails and it abolished them. I bought the truck for $11.5k with 165k miles and it drives like new. I love that thing! Highly capable and still bone stock (not for long, though)!

    Love the non-functional hood scoop. Toyota is just all business...Lol! Actually, I love the truck, but TRD Pro with no locker is a dumb move. It should have at least a rear locker. If I were in the market for a pickup, I'd put the ZR2 1st, and Ram Rebel 2nd. The Taco wouldn't be in the mix because I don't fit in them. Otherwise, love the Taco TRD Pro. It just needs better tires. Great videos! Keep 'em coming! I enjoy seeing all kinds of off-road capable vehicles!

    I appreciate your discussion on Ford, Chevy and Ram having a lot more options engine wise and accessories etc. I’ve been buying Chevrolet trucks and vans for over 30 years. I loved many things about them but dependable longevity without going to the dealership and spending $1000 upon $1000 every year was not one of them. I just thought that’s was you have to do. But I bought a Tundra and it just keeps going with never a breakdown. Extremely dependable with minimal maintenance. And it’s been my experience that with so many options and gadgets come issues, breakdowns and costly repairs. On a side note it seems like a lot of new things offered don’t seem to be tested very well. Remember the GM engine that was retrofitted to diesel? Or engine that would go 4,6 and 8 depending on need? Plastics transmission gears and the list goes on and on. Unfortunately the consumer got 4-6 year loans on these new vehicles that were so troublesome.

    Roman I had 3 4x4 dodges. 1/2 ton had transmission and transfer case problems.
    3/4 ton with 4.10 rear end. Had lock-up torque converter and transmission problems 3 times .
    I fixed it 2 times. The third I bought a 1 ton Cummins. Had drive shaft problem fuel pump problems (that bill was $10,000.00). And more.
    The first 2 trucks had 160,000 miles on them when I traded them it. The one ton has 260,000.0 miles on it . Not driving it any more. Need more $$$$ to put back on the road. The boss (wife) says NO MORE MONEY INTO THAT TRUCK ! Buy a new one. So I am look at the Toyota tundra sport TRD 4x4 crew max.
    The reason why I went into all this is to say I want a truck to last and I don't need all the bells and whistles that take away from you driving the truck. Toyota has it down right and THAT'S want I am looking for. I am in my 50's this truck well be my last and maybe my son's first.
    I do like your channel keep up the good work. And show more Toyota's ( I was a dodge person😖)

    I own a 2008 5.7 4X4 RCSB with 176K miles on her now, it's as plain jane as you can get, which is why it'll be so reliable. The more features you add, more points of failure you'll add. I don't mind lacking a rear locker, most of Tundra buyers use the truck for work and less than 1% of them will actually rock crawl to the point of needing a rear locker. If you know how to drive, Atrac is a great aid when climbing. I have an Benz SL600 for all the features and gizmos, but the Benz is also 1000X more likely to breakdown than the Tundra.

    I know there are die hard Toyota guys out there and I have a lot of respect for the brand, but I feel like they're the Apple of the truck world. Everything new for the 2019 is very much old for pretty much any of the big 3 truck manufacturers. I honestly believe it would be a fair comparison with the 2011 F150 and the 2019 Tundra.

    Good objective review Roman. I've found searching all the brands this year that Toyota has a lot of owners who will only buy Toyota vehicles. The rest of the buyers in large part have purchased a truck from the big three and were dissatisfied so they switched to the Toyota for the reliability reputation of the brand. Warranties are great but having to use it all the time with the truck at the Dealer gets old fast no matter how much you love the particular brand.

    • @kensnyder2340
      @kensnyder2340 6 лет назад

      I saw that. I was surprised as Tacoma owners are pretty brand loyal as a whole. I like the Tundra and the V8 power in a truck. I don't feel the smaller trucks are worth it for a couple miles per gallon compared to the tradeoff in comfort and space.

  • @jasonpadgett2288
    @jasonpadgett2288 5 лет назад

    Tundra is simplistic, that's why I like it. It works great, that's why Toyota doesn't try and reinvent the wheel. It might be a "thirsty" truck by today's standards, but its extremely reliable for hundreds of thousands of miles.

    They all don’t last a long time. They used too...20-30 years ago maybe? The others have lots of cool/ostentatious tech that Toyota may not have but that’s about it. The only full-size I would maybe purchase over the Tundra is the new Ram limited. And that’s only because of the goodies but I’d pray everyday that it wouldn’t fail me, where as with the Tundra I’d just enjoy it.

    Still a baaad truck. I’m excited to see the redesign in 2021. They’re talking about a V8 hybrid that’ll tow 18k pounds and get 30mpg. If anyone can do it Toyota can. I imagine they’re gonna take things that worked with the Tacoma (it’s plastic bed that weighs less but is very durable, interior, design, and other things) and apply them to the new tundra. They’re saying it’s gonna be ground breaking and a game changer instead of a catch-up to the competition. I’m pumped! But the tundra as it is is still the best truck to buy. Coming from a Ford guy.

    I agree with any truck there are some negatives that you might find, but in this specific case dealing with the content of the video I think the negatives you pointed out are not really valid, it really depends on what specific use you are looking for in a truck. How many people that buy a 40k tundra trd pro are taking them overlanding? My guess is not that much..

    Good review but rather basic roads that I would rate a 2 on a off-road scale from 0-10. I never drove anything over a 5. I used to live out there and knew what my limits were. I could have really used "crawl control" back then as some descents were rather steep. Made me think I was going to roll or go over the edge. Had a decent K5 that would go over just about anything. Loved going up to the tundra and looking down into 3 valleys at the same time watching the different weather systems. Fun days.

    9,200 pounds towing with a 5.7 and 4.30 rear end? Doesn't sound like a very good number not to mention the extreme lack of gas mileage. Yes when you buy a truck gas mileage isn't top of the list but if it is used daily it still factors in.

    • @Ekimsnegdoh27
      @Ekimsnegdoh27 6 лет назад

      Tony Hightower I will say the 4.30 rear end is geared very well with the transmission. My tundra at 75 mph runs 1900 Rpms. Toyota uses gears 5 and 6 as two overdrives. I average 15 mpg no matter what and have bigger tires. My Silverado with 5.3 averaged the same with 3.73 gears.

    toyota truck sales have been limited by production capacity for years. after the $150mil investment into automation of the baja plant, texas now has more leeway to shift between taco and tundra production to meet demand. they will sell more tundras this year than last, and sold more last year than the year before, but if they ever had an incentive to update the tranny and interior it is now when they have the ability to make more to meet any boost in demand.

    I really wanted to buy the Toyota Tundra CrewMax TRD Pro, unfortunately the Toyota sellers have been giving me evasive. What they say is that that van is not going to bring it to California and that the waiting list is approximately 2 years. I can tell you literally which were the Toyota dealers that told me this, but for now I'll leave it that way.
    A few weeks ago, one of the salesmen told me that they had one, but that it was used and of 2015, that that would be my only possibility and that the cost I had was more than $ 55,000.-
    Unfortunately I have not found how to warn Toyota USA that their vendors in Southern California are refusing to sell this truck.
    I have had my Tundra CrewMax Off Road since 2010 and it has never left me on the road or in the places where we have gone camping, mountains, beaches, desert, forests, weekend trips or several weeks. my daily use car
    In short, the best truck I've ever had.

      An arb air locker is not that expensive. They are about $1000 plus installation cost with that you will have to buy a arb air compressor which is not really a bad upgrade to have since you have to air down with anything that you will need a locker for with this truck. With a arb locker ($1,000), arb air compressor ($250 on Amazon), and install (price will vary) your probably around 2 grand for the upgrade. Not too bad but while I had the truck in the trans shop I would upgrade the gears but that's just me.

    I owned a 2006 tundra and put over 90k miles on it before getting rid of it, huge mistake. The 2006 had more than 20k off-road miles on it without ever having a single problem. I bought a 2017 and was really disappointed in it. I felt the build quality was terrible. The 17’s dash would shake and rattle off-road so bad. The door panels rattled from the bass of the terrible stereo, the rear large window started creeping horrible after 6k miles. The transmission was oddly spaced, and for having all this power it felt like it needed to reved high to accelerate. The off-road capability sucked because of how large it is. I got rid of it and replaced it with 2017 Tacoma and I’m much more please with it. I guess if you tow a lot, and don’t off-road the tundra would be a good truck.
    P.s if you have a 1st gen tundra, keep it.
