    Very interesting concept and great execution of it by Asus. The points of possible improvements would be better igpu (like amd's 680m impossible to implement here since it's made with collab with intel so we have to wait for intel to make better igpus), LTE/5G connectivity and anti-reflection coating layer for outdoor usage.

      Did not know about the Intel connection. Is that for all Zenbooks or just this foldable? Too bad because a) an AMD apu would provide a minimal level of gaming and other gpu dependent support and b) it would provide a nice battery life boost. Iris graphics for $3500 is just a no-go in every way for me. Seems like it's relegated to not much more than Office apps and streaming duty. As @Kiyotaka said, the xg port would have unlocked the ability to really utilize that oled hdr screen. Maybe next gen.

    First gen tech so as usual I recommend extreme caution. Also 30K cycles is NOT many. Depending on how active your lifestyle is, it's not at all unlikely that you might open and close this thing a few dozen times a day. Not to mention it's 30K cycles under lab conditions; IRL you may be applying force unevenly or slamming it shut in a hurry or whatever, expending "more than 1 cycle's worth of lifetime" each time. If you are buying this thing, be mentally prepared that it might end up in a landfill in just five years.

  • @javiej
    @javiej 2 года назад

    this thing should have a monitor input, so that it can still be used as a portable monitor when it becomes obsolete as a laptop. Having soldered ram and no decent GPU it will become obsolete pretty fast I'm afraid, while portable monitors can be useful for much more years , specially if they have so much quality and portability as this one.

    • @javiej
      @javiej 2 года назад

      @@PSYCHOV3N0M Yes Lenovo have a nice one, but this one could be much more portable as it is foldable. However without a monitor input port it is too expensive for lasting as much as a couple of years of light use before programmed obsolescence kicks in. 16Gb RAM and iGPU is now smartphone territory, it is not enough for serious Windows applications. I wonder what are they thinking when they design these super expensive "Windows light" devices. For common tasks Android is perfectly enough. When people need a big brother OS like Windows it is mainly for using big applications, productivity or AAA games. Not for email, web, and watching videos. This device is born obsolete or close to it, a lost opportunity. This is a great display with amputated inputs in exchange for windows bloatware . It is an aberration like if you get a next gen laser projector, add smart tv apps to it but then remove the input ports in exchange. Nobody asked for this.

      @@msp5138 It was mostly an issue with MSI laptops, the hinges get really stiff after about two years and the metal in the hinges is fine but it slowly starts to cause cracks around the areas the hinges are connected to, and eventually they just break off. Probably why they advertised all new and improved hinges in their recent laptop designs
      First was an alienware M15 which had the hinge in the middle and the whole thing snapped off after about three years and also broke the screen, but after getting a replacement screen and just taping it together it worked fine till the motherboard failed.
      Then GE62's left side snapped at the lid about three years in but I just taped it back together and my dad has been using it just fine since.
      Then my GE75 snapped on the left side on the lid which caused the screen to also fail. Luckily its two year warranty had a month left and they repaired it and sent it back, but then 2 weeks ago, 7 months after getting it back the hinge snapped again but this time inside the base, so I decided to fix it properly and learned how to plastic weld using a butane hotknife and my 3d printer filament, and its been fine since and I'll probably just repair it myself from now on.

    After the cool factor has worn of I kind of see foldables like the whole 3d TV hype of the 2000s. foldables have a similar problems of been stupidly expensive to not really solve a problem and have the added benefit of been fragile

    I think the moving towards only having USB-C as charging port on notebooks is a big failure. Why the hell would i sacrifice a USB port for no good reason? Just put a pin charger if you are so worried about space.

    Watching this on the z fold 4. Lol I'm just worried about the price is all. Going to be well over $2,500. Just wish they gave a date to when they will announce a price. This would be great for video content and basic computing. Wish they did this with gaming specs close to the z13 but we will all see if it's worth it.

    It's nice concept but not worth buying now, I would say having thinner bezels without reducing size to end up having larger screen will be even more impressive, resolution seemed fine for a laptop but needs 120hz + more hardware power for a this size of Laptop.
