It's an improvement. Nothing special. Long.....LONG..... overdue and people are acting like Apple walked on water haha. IN 2024....what they reduced in Length and Width, they added in Height, and now it's "chuncky". The base model has 256gb when it should have 512gb and it SHOULD have been as small as an Apple TV. Now, that would be indicative that Apple can still "innovate". They just fixed the flaws in their previous designs, but they didn't think one step further. Why does this thing need a fan if the M4 chip is so power efficient and barely heats up? Sure, it's DECENT bang-for-buck. But an Intel Nuc is smaller, cheaper, and more bang-for-buck
All depends on one’s use case I think? I’m rocking a late 2012 MBP (A1278 2.9Ghz i7) I bought earlier this year for $130 CAD, and very easily updated to Sonoma via OCLP; it’s sole application is running software for my audio/video systems (REW and miniDSP Device Console). It came already upgraded with 16GB RAM and 1 TB SSD - the calibrated mike, Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and active USB extension cable required for the audio application cost more than the laptop. My daily driver for everyday use - such as reading and commenting on YT - is an iPad, and home theatre runs an ATV 4K. I also have a pair of mid 2012 Minis for print and music servers, and would be hard pressed to find a need for an new shiny grey box, regardless of the outrageous performance value it might offer.
Yep definitely! I want to upgrade my aging 2018 Mac Mini, so interested in the M4 Pro model for maximum performance. I'll wait for your review first though (no pressure...). Oh and you forgot removing the two USB A ports and not adding an SD card slot. - Who knows, maybe it's inside?
I am still rocking my M1 Mac mini editing about ten 4-K videos a week plus coding, it is so smooth (in 2024) that I simply do not see the need of upgrading it as of now. These machines are simply incredible to say the least.
I've got a bunch of MacBooks and iMacs. I bought my wife an M1 MacBook Air and me an M1 Mac mini 16Gb a few years ago and I absolutely adore both. Wonderful machines.
I’ve gone and ordered the base model. I just want a general purpose thing to mess around on, so I reckon that will do me just fine. If necessary I’ll get an external drive.
That’s a great choice! A storage upgrade would be +33% of the cost which I think definitely lowers the cost advantage of the Mac mini. I’m thinking of doing the same

Very tempting. I love that it’s possible to add 10GBe card. This little add-on saves approximately $200-$250 for external USB-C to rj45 adapter. In terms of raw power. This thing is a beast. As for limited storage. I guess some people can use their already purchased external hard drives or NAS boxes.
Will probably wait for the matching docking stations to come out before deciding on the M4 unit. But yeah... I think it's the best value out there. Thanks for the video👍🏽
I've ordered a base M4 mini to replace my M1 mini. I use the rear external speaker socket on the M1 and wasn't too pleased with the move to the front. I've now got a USB-C audio adapter waiting for the M4 so I can use that as a rear speaker connector instead. Not ideal, but better than a cable permanently sticking out of the front. In return we do get the 2 front-mounted USB sockets at last which will replace the untidy USB hub I've been using on the M1
As a photographer I'm disappointed there still is no SDXC card slot. The only reason I'm even considering a Studio M2 Max (vs the Mini M4) is that, plus almost double the GPU cores.

Although I still use my venerable M1 MacBook Pro which has lasted almost 4 years now and is still an absolute revelation of a device for me, I will for sure be making a move back to the Mac Mini once it runs its course. This thing can literally be put in a backpack and be taken anywhere. Really plug and play in a way that the previous Mini was not quite in the ballpark of doing. All that power in that little box and the price, I mean it's such a fantastic value. Highlights the divide in price between a base M4 Mini and a base M4 MBP being really all in that display.
I’m on the final gen intel iMac 27 with a multi monitor setup. It was top spec when I purchased it and has been great for digital art and photography but starting to get occasional issues….. been waiting a while for a larger version of the current iMacs but starting to think the New M4 Pro Mini is the answer.
I would have picked the classic silver even if there were other choices. Mark, if you like orange, seems like an opportunity to work with dbrand on a future video.
Ed from California here. Always enjoy your thorough reviews and new information of new Apple products. But I will go for the M4 iMac. Watched that review you did and help me make a logical decision for my wife and I after seeing this review. Price was our criteria. Thank you, Sir.

All that said, I am very tempted to get the base M4 model. Hi Mark. Subscribed. I’ve never owned a mac mini (macbook m2) before but considering now because of the price ($799 🇨🇦) and specs. Casual user. thanks for this video. Looking forward to the next one cheers. ✌️
Basically I’m not getting one because my 2019 Intel iMac 27” 8 core i9 64GB with 2TB SSD plus 6TB external hard drives still works like new and will hopefully fulfil my needs for at least another five years. By which time there will be even faster, better, stronger, newer all singing and dancing things available which will make the M4 Mini seem prehistoric. That’s the way evolution and consumerism works.
Perfect for when my 2023 Mac Mini needs replacing! The 'old' form factor is great, but this is even better. Well done to Apple, hopefully it will be a success for them. Thank you for the early info.
I bought my M2 Pro mini almost one year ago, so I definitely won't be upgrading. I do feel like a little bit of a chump for buying the last mac before the memory upgrade, so the base model now has the same that I paid double for, but I don't regret it. This is the best computer I've ever had, and I'm still new to the mac game, so I think I actually prefer the old design to this new one. (Also, I turn off my computer every night. It's not good for it's health to leave it in sleep forever.)
I'm definitely interested in this new Mac Mini. It might need some time to get used to a taller mini PC, but the price definitely drew my interest. I could buy an M4 Mac Mini 16/512 and a NexDock or UPERFECT lapdock, and they're still almost half the price of what I'd pay for the M4 MacBook Pro 14 with the same 16/512 trim.
Great video and I did subscribe! I’m pumped. I’m upgrading from my old 2019 iMac, which is a beast but getting dated. This is everything I could want. Just wish I could still use my iMac’s display.
It’s bloody lovely. I’m debating/agonising replacing my M1Max Studio for this - honestly I don’t need to, that machine is still a champ - but boy the mini Pro (in a similar spec to yours) hits ALL the right spots for me.
Mark, I’m on M1 Pro 16” and while it would be nice to have the boost, the M1 series is so good still I don’t feel the need to upgrade. Maybe M5 though, if they do more with graphics, which was an afterthought this time around. But there’s no doubt the M4 Pro on a smaller Mac Mini is incredibly compelling. Especially with Thunderbolt 5 and front ports.
The fact you could get it for £999 with a 1TB SSD and 16GB of memory is just awesome. I’m not gonna upgrade because the M1 Mac Mini is still going strong but I would still consider the Mac Mini in the future. Also, I love that it shares the design of the Mac Studio like a statement of being an affordable option to that product.
Mini M4 Pro ordered base unified/base ssd. I did however up the core count. I figured I can always tack on a TB4/5 external ssd and 2.5G usb-c Ethernet if need be, later on. Replacing a 2014 i5 mini, so a monstrous upgrade. I’ve had the M4 iPad Pro since pre-order, but this will replace my laptop pc that I’m tired of. Love your content; always seek out new ones from you. Cheers from Canada.
Great video. Are you going to make a video with recommendations for which M4 or M4 Pro Mac Mini configuration to get based on your needs (i.e., student, casual, gamer, power user, etc.)?
ive sold my top spec intel macbook pro and my M1 ipad air to get the mac mini M4, its everything ive wanted in a mac, its similar looking to the Mac studio but teeny! and i absolutely love that, its also so powerful that for now after getting it i wont need to upgrade for the very least like 8 or so years, probably even longer. in other words i absolutely cant wait to have it in my hands
I have had my 27" iMac for 10 years now. !0 years gives me an excuse to upgrade when I really don't have any reason to upgrade because it still works perfectly and still seems very quick to me ! My question is - do I get the new M4 iMac or an M4 Mac mini with a different make cheaper display? I can't justify the premium for the Apple display Thoughts please watchers??
I'm in a similar situation. A lot of iMac users don't wanna go lower than the 27 inch that they currently have. If that's OK with you to go to the 24 inch ,then buying an iMac might be the best choice for you. I'm seriously looking into this new Mac mini to replace my 10-year-old Intel 27-inch iMac.Need a good screen to figure out. I'm thinking just a base model and get an extra external SSD with 2 TB of storage should be sufficient for me. I do some music and some video.
Mark, great review. I want to say that I like the M4 Mac mini. The design is pretty good and reminiscent of the Mac Studio. Having said that, I will be keeping my M2 Pro. My setup consists of a 4TB HD, Super Drive CD/DVD, and 2 matching hubs that provide additional SSD plus additional ports and SD card reader ports 2 standard size and 2 mini size. Because my Color laser printer is easier to use via a USB -A port, I need those ports. The new Mac Mini is in my opinion too limiting. Furthermore the M2 Pro has all I need to run Apple intelligence plus for my limited needs it is still a very powerful Mac. So, while I like the M4 MM, it offers no compelling reason for me to upgrade. I would actually lose expansion capability at least until solutions are created. Even then the M2 Pro has way more power than I need or would use.
I always turn off my macs every day ! My last Mac Pro lasted 11 years , my MacBook Pro 2015 still going strong , and now my Mac Studio M1 Max wil go on forever it is so good , turning off you Mac every ight will keep it fast as the first day ! So that on off switch matters 😮

I am a «traditionalist» and prefer silver for my Macs. It would be different with the iMac, but i will replace my MacBook Pro from 2017 with a base Mini M4 with 512 GB SSD.
I'm running a maxed-out 2018 Intel Mini, and it's working great. If I still had a job, I'd consider upgrading right now, even though my 2018 Mini is running just fine, everything works without an issue, and I use it quite a bit. The video I work on every week is from an GoPro 7, so luckily having an outdated GoPro keeps my requirements down compared to state-of-the-art video requirements. I'm also working on two 30" Apple Cinema Displays, which are around twenty years old. Although they require two or three adapters, they work great. I also have six external drives. As long as everything keeps working fine until I find a new job, I can put off a new Mini. But I want one. Six years is pretty good for my current Mini, and I'll bet I could get two more years, minimum, before I really had to upgrade. Maybe longer? I had a PowerComputing clone back in the day that went nine years as my main machine, although I had upgraded everything in it that could be upgraded. It was still running just fine when I let it go.
Actually excited about an Apple product. I switched from windows to Mac with the M1 mini and it's been great. Can't wait to upgrade to the M4 Pro. As a RUclips influenza (ah-choo) this will be awesome for editing my first rate MotoCamping adventures 😜🤙
No SD card slot. In actual use, this clean little box will have wires coming out of every port, cluttering up my desk top. I don’t keep my computer powered up all the time, so finding the on/off switch under all the wires will be a constant pain.
Still using a Mac mini 2012 i7, 16gb ram… SSD drive…. Ableton Live… Ventura made possible by Open Core Legacy Patcher.. Works amazingly…. BUT…… I think it’s time to upgrade, finally 👍
I plan on getting the new Mac Mini. I have a M1 iMac. I plan to use it as a trade in for the Mini. This new Mini has all the ports I need. It comes with the base memory I find the most useful. I am getting the 512Gb storage. I don’t need more than that since I am now the proud owner/user of a personal NAS. I have 8TB of storage on it and am about to add another 8TB to it.
If you need a monitor check out the BenQ PD range. Currently I have both a 2k and a 4k model and they are both 100% sRGB compliant. Although the 4k monitor May only be 99% sRGB compliant.
The new Mac mini looks like a great machine! My current setup has external speakers plugged in all the time, so having the headphone port on the front will definitely be a nuisance!!
I'll be sticking with my intel mac mini for the time being, with the next time to consider replacing it probably being when the mac studio refreshes if that happens. The removal of usb a ports is what has me soured on this redesign. I didn't ever think that the mini needed to be smaller than it was, so losing ports to a frivolous redesign is inexcusable to me. Sure you can attach dongles and hubs but it's a desktop; it should be a hub to begin with!
Went with max m4 pro chip(upgraded chip). 1tb and 48gb ram. That’s the sweet spot of ultimate power and still closest to 2k. Going 2tb and 64gb pushes it closer to 3k
Great Video Mark! Yes, I will be purchasing the M4 Mac Mini just because I can get one. The M1 Mac Mini with 16GB of Ram that I purchased in early 2021 still works just fine, but for this money, the new form factor will make this the best media center PC to mount behind a television. Of course, I need to purchase a television because I have not had one of those in 6 years. Although, I am waiting to hear the MacBook Pro announcement today to see if I want an M4 MacBook Pro or if I am going to keep the M1 Pro MacBook that I already have and just add a M4 MacMini Pro to my rig and have it for my side work on my principle rig.
The new M4 Mac Mini a game changer. I am going for the same M4 Pro Mac Mini spec as yourself, plus 10Gbit/s ethernet to future proof it for NAS storage. My primary uses will be running Windows 11 and Linux VMs, so maximising CPU cores and RAM is necessary, run Logic Pro and Ableton, gaming, and some light coding. This currently chews up 1.5 TB of storage on my M2 MacBook Pro 13-inch, hence 2 TB SSD is my minimum requirement. I will trade in my M2 MacBook Pro to reduce the cost, as its lack of touch display and intrinsic stylus support means it can never be my mobile computing device.
I bought the base model before even watching the launch video. I have a 2014 Mini which is mainly a home server. It still does fine but there issues with it running an older OS and things syncing correctly. The new Mini will take its place, but also serve as a computer so my son doesn’t have to use my MacBook for his gaming videos on RUclips. I’ll be buying a 4TB NVME and a Thunderbolt enclosure so I can sync my whole iCloud to it.
For me, working on a 6 year old MB pro with 8GB of RAM The Mac mini with the M4 Pro and 24 GB of RAM. yes RAM. 😉 is the machine of my dreams. So bring it on, I can't wait!!
I've ordered the M4 Mac mini with 24GB memory, 1TB storage and 10 gigabit Ethernet. It's to replace an M1 Mac mini with 16GB/512GB and gigabit Ethernet. I already use an Apple Studio Display so I'll have a good mix of Thunderbolt and USB-C connections.
I’m getting the M4 mini moving from iMac 2013 and also getting studio display. Hopefully when I upgrade again in years to come it will be cheaper as I will keep the display and just buy a new mini.
oh dear.... so if i want 20 mac mini's in a rack I need to find a new rack?! Oh no! Seriously... great video. I think this is a wonderful mac mini.. ports and headphone jack on the front (at last!!) Thanks Mark
I was all set to buy a refurbished M3 Pro MacBook Pro as a replacement for my M1 Mac Mini with 16gb unified memory. Now I’m getting the M4 Pro Mac Mini with 12 core cpu and 48gb unified memory. Likely also getting 512gb ssd.
How to use an M4 Mac Mini… Plex Server (thinking about the M4 pro). I’m definitely considering buying one to possibly replace my 2010 Intel 2.66 GHz Mac Mini. I’m definitely interested in an M4 Ultra Mac Studio though, if for no other reason just to see what Apple are going to do with it.
I don't mind the audio jack in the front. It's definitely more practical. But it is a pretty odd choice coming from Apple, given how they made such a fuss about audio jacks on their iphones.
Yes, I’m Finally getting one!!!!! All the improvements seem great. I do wish they had upgraded the hard drive space to 512 on 2 chips. What is the first level of HD you can get to 2 chips?
Although I love the new form factor and how much technology is crammed into such a small space, I will be sticking with my M1 base model Mac Studio, even though I am quite sure the new Mini Pro will likely be faster in a lot of instances.
I have been racking my brains about this overnight and I genuinely think, the entry level Mini is the best bang for your buck bring your own keyboard, mouse and monitor computer on the market. You get full access to the Mac ecosystem, 16gb of unified memory and wild amounts of power for under £600. And, hear me out on this - Second place goes to the Steam Deck - About £400 for all that computing power albeit with a part time job as a Linux janitor.
Hello, i wonder if it good to play some video games in sort of fifa or nba? I want to buy it because i go to college and i need a good computer, thanks for answers (good video btw!)
Well I’m seeking to get the M4 Pro version for video editing and voice overs. Also I do intend to use my existing M1 Pro MacBook Pro to supplement it. Looking to just keep it at 24 GB of RAM and seeking to up the storage to 2TB.
The only other thing I would have wanted would be a usbc power option. This form factor is screaming to be portable and that would have opened up more on the go power options. I haven't had a mini in a long time, but I've had them on and off in the past. Currently using an M1 air as my all around machine, but I'm leaning heavily on picking one of these up (similarly specced to you though I'll go 1tb and the standard core chip). My idea is to use it with my AVP as a powerhouse mobile desktop setup. I already don't use my m1 air keyboard (I carry around a split ergo keyboard) and carry an external display, so I think I can get away with using it almost like a laptop. I'll just have to see how much of a hassle it will be to not have onboard battery power (but mostly everywhere I use it has lead power so maybe it won't be a hassle?)...
My only gripe is the price of upping the internal storage. Power button on the bottom? Don't care. Headphone socket on front? Better. Because of no 27inch+ iMac, a Mac Mini with decent screen is a no brainer.
Do you think the M4 Mac mini could be Apple's best-ever Mac?
It's an improvement. Nothing special. Long.....LONG..... overdue and people are acting like Apple walked on water haha. Concerned about thermal management
Never owned a mac, but this is the first product that could sway me to buy the base model since I don't play much on my gaming pc anymore...
And the 3.5 jack input on the back is important for connecting speakers.
yes!

Standard M4 chip / 24GB RAM / 1 TB storage will be the best long term sweet-spot for users without totally full or totally empty pockets.
Hmm. what about a 32GB Ram/ 512GB storage?
1TB storage direct from apple is such a bad idea, you can get 1TB external SSD for a fraction of the price. Why waste the money?
Apple 2tb SSD 800 usd dollars... 2tb WD 850x is 150 usd dollars on Amazon right now. 650 usd markup, absolutely waste of your money

I LOVE the headphone jack on the front. It's very un-Apple as they push wireless, but I have wired Sennheisers. Perfect for me. I bought two.
i had a macbook pro 2017 as my main music production machine... yea time to upgrade... M4 PRO!
The power button under the mini and front peripherals is due to Jony not being at Apple. It is logical, but the look is not good, but functional...
Just put it upside down. You'll be surprised how well it looks turned over.
Ordered my yesterday, the 599 model. Content creator, November 8th can’t get here soon enough!
I ordered the same configuration just like you did! I‘m beyond of excitement about the new Mac mini!!!! 🎉🥳😎
Just curious , why do you need 64g of memory?
@ It’s going to be my last one so I ordered a beast… 😎🤭🙌
I'm definitely interested in this new Mac Mini. It might need some time to get used to a taller mini PC, but the price definitely drew my interest. I could buy an M4 Mac Mini 16/512 and a NexDock or UPERFECT lapdock, and they're still almost half the price of what I'd pay for the M4 MacBook Pro 14 with the same 16/512 trim.
Yes, I'm upgrading my M1 mac mini (16GB, 512GB SSD) for an M4 with the same storage/SSD spcs. Why? Because it's there! :)
That is 400 for something that would have cost 10 for Apple to include from the start.
This computer is just GREAT
Great video. Are you going to make a video with recommendations for which M4 or M4 Pro Mac Mini configuration to get based on your needs (i.e., student, casual, gamer, power user, etc.)?
Yep, a Mac mini buying guide is in the works. Loads of this stuff on my website, too.
ive sold my top spec intel macbook pro and my M1 ipad air to get the mac mini M4, its everything ive wanted in a mac, its similar looking to the Mac studio but teeny! and i absolutely love that, its also so powerful that for now after getting it i wont need to upgrade for the very least like 8 or so years, probably even longer. in other words i absolutely cant wait to have it in my hands
I can't justify the premium for the Apple display
Thoughts please watchers??
Im not getting one because I need a beefy one and I feel a beefy Mac Mini means you should wait for Mac Studio.
Actually excited about an Apple product. I switched from windows to Mac with the M1 mini and it's been great. Can't wait to upgrade to the M4 Pro. As a RUclips influenza (ah-choo) this will be awesome for editing my first rate MotoCamping adventures 😜🤙
THIS IS IT IM UPGRADING FROM MY 2019 MACBOOK AIR
I have one of those 2018 Intel mac minis and I’ve been waiting for the new M4 mac mini since the rumors first came out!
Boom. He’s here..Grab your popcorn. Let’s do this.
No SD card slot. In actual use, this clean little box will have wires coming out of every port, cluttering up my desk top. I don’t keep my computer powered up all the time, so finding the on/off switch under all the wires will be a constant pain.
yeah ill get the base model i have a nas if i need more storage
This Mac mini is one of the best Mac’s and the price its a really good deal and lets not forget that It has a M4 chip
My man’s got tech jungle fever! 👏🏽😂
The 4 th category of who should get the new Mac Mini are those with Intel 27 inch IMacs who want a bigger screen than the forced only 24 inch IMac.
Still using a Mac mini 2012 i7, 16gb ram… SSD drive…. Ableton Live… Ventura made possible by Open Core Legacy Patcher..
Works amazingly…. BUT…… I think it’s time to upgrade, finally 👍
Yes planning to get one 👍💪
Ordered the £799 one
For me, working on a 6 year old MB pro with 8GB of RAM The Mac mini with the M4 Pro and 24 GB of RAM. yes RAM. 😉 is the machine of my dreams. So bring it on, I can't wait!!
I've ordered the M4 Mac mini with 24GB memory, 1TB storage and 10 gigabit Ethernet. It's to replace an M1 Mac mini with 16GB/512GB and gigabit Ethernet. I already use an Apple Studio Display so I'll have a good mix of Thunderbolt and USB-C connections.
I love it. 😍
Is there a native way or reliable work around to use the ipad pro as a display for the mac mini?
Great video. I’m definitely subscribing. I wish though you could explain in a little bit more detail why you decided to go from 24 GB of RAM to 64.
Welcome onboard. As for the RAM, I just wanted as much as possible to see what's possible with this thing.
Been waiting for the smaller Mac mini. If you had to choose one, would you increase the RAM or Storage?
Me? Ram, you can always get a external ssd. Truly I do music and videos so I need the extra storage.
No brainier! Upgrading from M1 MacMini
Just ordered the M4 mini Pro with 1tb SSD upgrade £1599 to work along side my M2 Mini Pro - can not wait
Enjoy.
I want one since april. Still cannot buy until november. My current macmini si from 2011
Gonna get a base model with 512 gigs. I’m a musician. I have the most recent iPad Air (larger screen). My laptop is an 2014 MacBook. Time to upgrade.
For foreigners who go to New York, this price is very interesting😊
Just buy external storage for significantly cheaper no? What am I missing here?
@@mikestand8067Exactly it’s way cheaper for more and it’s plenty fast. Better get less storage and more unified memory
