What's your smartwatch of choice, and why?
Hey @mark. Apple watch Ultra, why, honestly, it does everything I need it to and, as you wisely say, I and the whole family are immersed in the Appleverse, how and what could I wear as alternative, I don't believe there truly is one available for someone like me, a truly committed Apple user across all formats and products.
My Apple Watch 4 cellular, stainless steel is my current watch of choice. Although it has now been abandoned by Apple (WatchOS-wise). It still works! My previous Apple Watch was the Apple Watch 0. It came out before Apple updated it and called it the Apple Watch 1. It literally was falling apart when I updated to the 4.
Ultra 2 Black
Pixel watch 3 (the large one.) I'm very active and the Fitbit integration is the best I've used for tracking things. Not a fan of charging it once a day but small price to pay. I'm currently using the 9 pro fold and having the pixel watch as a viewfinder/camera timer on a device that itself is adjustable as a tripod has made this quite the companion piece.
I upgraded from the 2021 SE to the Series 8 this year.
Used to the daily charging, and it just works well for my simple usage.
"if you're an Apple person and you're just getting an Apple Watch for the first time, the Series 10 is fantastic and you won't regret it" might be exactly what I needed to hear 😂
coming from a series 5 and a very casual user, between the s9 and s10, is it worth the jump in price or no? (if not just for longevity?)
I have not had a watch since I was about 12, I am getting the apple watch 10 because of all the embedded health benefits for sleep and heart features etc. (im 38 now)
I just got my series 10 yesterday, upgrading from a series 4. As I use my Apple Watch as my alarm clock, it would be great if it had the battery life of the ultra. But I just have it in my routine to charge it for about 3/4 of an hour in the morning and about an hour in the evening and that is enough. And that’s with the battery health of my series 4 at 78%! So definitely not a deal breaker for me. I’m glad I waited, the series 10 is such an improvement for me! (Of everything : screen real estate, « zyppyness », watch faces, etc).
I also upgraded from Series 6. Not enough health feature apart from Sleep apnea.
Wrist size?
Just watched your video of the Apple Watch series 10. In Comparison to the Apple Watch Ultra, what do you prefer now please? I have been wondering about the Series 10 to my Ultra 2 that I purchased last year. Ultra 2 has the better battery life. So now which one do you really prefer please?? Wayne Stevens
Honestly the simple way to see it: if you don’t care about longer battery life and you aren’t into sports then the series 10 should be better situation because it’s way more comfortable and probably the most comfortable smartwatch. For me the action button should be standard in every Apple Watch and the big missed on the series 10
Which size did you get?
Thanks for this. I've been considering upgrading from the 7 to the Ultra but I wear it overnight for health/sleep tracking and wasn't looking forward to the weight of the Ultra. This is a better option. Question - how durable with the screen be without a case? RJ
Haven't had it long enough to fully test durability, but Apple Watches have always been pretty robust in that regard.
@@MarkEllisReviews Thanks for the quick response.
I am using Ultra-2 for more than 9 months, i never faced any weight issue while sleeping or using it.
Please test it by yourself instead of going by youtubers reviews . Ultra is a great watch and you will love it, its not heavy as you think. You will get used to it. Action button on it is very helpful.
Hey Mark, great vid. Was that the 42mm or 46mm? And what does your wrist measure in mm’s? I can’t decide which size I should go!
I tried a Samsung 7 and - to me - the always on wasn’t always on no matter what I did, also the clarity and quality was not as good as an Apple device. I took it back to the shop as defective because no matter what, the always on was not! I bought the 10 and I am happy with it.
I don’t own any kind of computerized watch like this. However, I enjoy watching your videos and, whether you are a fanboy or not, I appreciate your reviews.
I appreciate that - thank you!
I've had an iPhone (and iPads) for about 15 years so Apple invested.
Until about a month ago my watch was a Galaxy Watch 3 - yes, the integration with my phone was basic (at best) but i liked how it looked better than the Apple offering.
Sadly, the display was faltering and since Galaxy and Apple no longer played ball to any level after Watch 3 I was forced to look at alternatives.
I went Apple Watch 10.
What a revelation - it's a great piece of wearable kit and, as you pointed out, is seamless in terms of "it just works".
Battery is a gripe but it charges fully in the duration of the morning wash & dress so that's become the routine now.
To be honest, I had a new Garmin vivoactive 5. I was really happy with it, but now it seems I am allergic to the plastic casing. Never had that before, so now I am back on my old Apple Watch 4, unfortunately.
I’ve been an Apple user for the last 10 years and absolutely nothing has ever come close to the operating system. Sure there are far better phones watches tablets speakers earphones out there, but in the end Apple always wins because of that eco system you talk about, because of that operating system that’s second to none and everyone try’s to copy. In the end all you get is better battery life, better screen, better AI better camera from other products, but it’s all full of bloatware and an operating system (android) or less, that’s absolutely buggy laggy and just not worth it.
In my opinion, Apple don’t make the latest and greatest products, they just make top shelf products that work well.
Great channel btw 👍
Perfectly summed up!
I get 36 Hours + before charging. Admittedly thats without always on display but what's the point in having always on when you aint looking at it? The series 10 is the most comfortable apple watch Ive used yet. The eco system is great.
Right? I really don't understand why is always on display even a selling point. It's just a waste of battery life.
@@Between_Scylla_and_Kharybdis Maybe it's more so that others can see whatever nice watch face you've chosen? That's all I can think!
i see a lot of reviewers using the fabric strap over the silicone strap. any reason why?
Great video as ever.
There was a bit at the end where you’re walking past a fence that reminded me of Paul Whitehouse in the Fast Show. Aren’t Apple Watches brilliant 🤣🤣
Haha - LOVE this.
I have the Apple Watch Series 8 and recently the Xiaomi Watch S3.I love both. The truth is that when I used the S3 I loved the battery life. And actually I could do almost all the things I can do with the Apple Watch.
I upgraded to the Natural Titanium S10 from a Stainless Steel S7. Loving the thinner design.I was tempted to get the Jet Black Aluminium but the standard glass scratches too easily. If it had the sapphire screen I would have been all over it.Never been a fan of the Ultra’s design, too chunky for me.
I also have an S7 in stainless steel. Does it feel like a worthwhile upgrade? Any insight? Currently contemplating this.
@@k.p.u. In my opinion, yes.
Picked up an s10 to go with my 16pm. Coming from an s23u with a galaxy watch 4 classic. I’ve loved my Apple Watch. No issues with battery life, I wear it about 24 hrs, charge it for 30 mins before bed and I’m good. My watch 4 was super slow, it was better when I got it but honestly no where near as smooth as my Apple Watch, and it slowed down pretty quick I found. I’ve also found my AW more intuitive with its apps and integration to my phone. Again this is coming from a long time android user. Obviously in the end both brands have their pros and cons. I’ve enjoyed the switch though.
I got a series 10 to replace my trusty series 6 (the battery was finished). Was going to go ultra but with no ultra update and everything I needed in the series 10 I thought why not make the saving generally as good as it needs to be. Have to say the battery is ok and fast charging good but I’m having to quickly charge daily since I got it
Are you going to use the Series 10 or go back to the Ultra?
Still trying to get my wrist temperature to work ,,,,,!!!! Keeps telling me I need 7 sleeps I have about 7 months on my ultra 2
I snook out of the Apple walled garden and tried the S24 Ultra and the Pixel 9 excel but I didn’t like Android and I also felt vulnerable as all my tech wasn’t joined up (AirPods, HomePods, iPods etc) so I returned the Android phones snook back into the walled garden and bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max and an Apple Watch 10 46mm polished titanium, and now I am happy all joined up again 😊
Yeah u wil be unhappy if get out from the wall garden , better just stay , i know apple will improve year by year their tech , and there are things that other competitors cant beat apple
do you regret buying polished titanium rather than aluminum?
Haha welcome back 🎉

@@JustSteve247 I tried the alternatives but prefer Apple, so, not a 🐑
does it tell me the depth in the sea and the temperature of the sea/ pool?
It’s interesting that you pointed out how previous Apple Watches would “bulge” off the skin. One of the things I noticed as well is how flush the Apple Watch sits on your wrist. It doesn’t seem that much slimmer, but it actually has a much nicer fit on the wrist than older Apple Watches.
The display really pops off axis - so Apple was not exaggerating that off axis viewing. Even though the S10 doesn’t have the best battery life, I do appreciate how insanely quick it charges. All that said, I still wonder if I want to return it for an AW Ultra. I’m really on the fence. My biggest gripes are the durability vs the AW Ultra and the battery life of the Ultra. I wish Apple would maybe redesign the regular watches with a boxy style like their phones that prevents the watch face from constantly being exposed.
All in all, the S10 is really a very nice watch. The biggest problem with the S10 is how good the AW Ultra is😂
Apple products keep value. I sold my apple watch s7 GPS only, alum. ( 3 years old, 81% left battery life) for 160 eur. Which is 1/3 of the price that i paid for it 3 years ago. Charging it every day is a lit bit annoying but one gets used to it. If you need 2 days battery life, disable most of its features but this is pointless. Charging for abt 30min every day is enough. Apple watch s10 is amazing - slim, fast charging, beautiful & bright OLED, no bugs, great sound, excellent mic, perfect SMART device /PC on your wrist.
Several times I went to the Apple website to configure and buy either a series 10 apple watch or the ultra 2. Each time I ended up not buying once apple care+ and sales taxes are added. Not just because of the high price, but mainly that at the end of the day, the battery life is not that much better than my current Series 5 Apple watch which only gets a $70 trade in value -- I would still need to charge the watch every day and don't see the capabilities as that much better. I use the watch mainly during my gym workouts and outdoor walking and running, which are activities that drain the batteries on any of these watches. Will wait until battery life improves to 2+ days (yes, I know ultra 2 can go 36+ hours, but that's still basically every day with heavy usage) and or the watch can do Apple Intelligence with some actual real world benefits.
I love my Ultra but I no longer use it regularly for a couple of reasons; when running it loses my HR (my AW7 never did this), it has estimated my VO2 Max as about 60% of what it actually is, and it gets my deep sleep readings wrong consistently. So now I wear my Pixel Watch 3 which does none of these things. BUT I still have to wear my Ultra to do my Apple fitness workouts - what a pain. And I wish the PW3 had sapphire and titanium case.
Basically the Ultra lets me down in all the most important things I need it for and a normal AW which is 1mm thinner with a 1mm wider screen isn't going to do it for me. More battery please Apple! I would get a Huawei but no tap to pay is a massive dealbreaker for me sadly.
It's always been clear to me that the ecosystem is the product. a watch or a phone are components that you can add or not. So am not surprised that you came back to the Apple Watch even though other watches have great points to them. There's no Android ecosystem but rather a field where you will find some things better than in Apple's ecosystem but to get there and stay there you have to cross muddy fields, road signs that are incorrect and people shooting at you with paint balls. Android's philosophy clearly has a role to play as there are many who don't want an ecosystem but want single focus products. I like Apple a lot but wish there was a competitor in the ecosystem field.
You still sound like Jony Ives. I have sleep apnea and SP02 sensor is the reason I bought my Series 6, which I am still going to use to track sleep and I bought the Series 10 titanium for a more premium look. You are right. Battery life is a sore spot.
Can I use apple watch series 9 straps with series 10?
Yes.
When I was buying my first Apple Watch, I was sure I’d prefer a darker colour. Surprisingly, I ended up buying one in Starlight. The Series 10 and Ultra 2 look great in black, though.
Thanks for the content.
Great video …..is that a 42 or 46 mm ?
Having recently moved from having a new pixel phone every year to the iPhone 15 PM this year, I was initially disappointed, I thought it was turd. However, now I own a Macbook Pro, iPad Pro, Earbuds Pro 2 and it all makes sense, together they work flawlessly, yeah I miss the odd Pixel thing, but overall I see the Apple Eco System attraction, but the battery life on ALL their watches is just not good enough compared to the Garmin Fenix series I've owned, and my current Epix Gen 2, I would love to try one out, but the battery limitations are a serious barrier, although the Ultra's do look cool.
I have an Apple Watch 8. I agree with all of your points- big plus on the ecosystem, and minus on the battery life. I find myself charging my watch at strange times of the day…
Get out of bed, put watch on charger, breakfast, shower, watch is charged to 100%…
Watch 9 and tends to be around 40% by the time it gets charged each morning.
Do I just not use mine properly or something? 😂
nope i use the same charging routine like you 😂
And what was the problem with the Apple series 10? I realize the battery life is nowhere near the same as the other brands you mentioned and that is quite interesting. Either Apple refuses to provide powerful batteries or they are unable to? I'm unsure which it could be.
IMO, there is a watch for everyone and the Series 10 is a great choice for those already in the Apple universe.
Plus, that Jet Black color is 🔥
I wear an Apple SE, use it mainly for tennis, swimmimg, sleep and other. Battery life maybe 2 days max. BUT. I had the Huawey GT2 or what's the name. Way bigger, nicer, but more prone to scratches during tennis and swimming. Couldn't really sleep with it on my wrist. Not to mention that lots of features were passively "working" but not really working. Then don't get me started on connection issues. But I think that's where the battery from Apple goes to: maintain and make sure all works as needed.
So, Apple until something else gets it at least as good, except the battery life.
Great review, Mark! 😁👏
Haha - cheers, mate!
Thanks for this and indeed your back catalog of content. I have an old forerunner 235, and the OnePlus watch review has me interested 😮 But what was the OnePlus phone you briefly mentioned when talking about the watch please? Thank you
Nice! The OnePlus Nord 4, most likely.
I just switched from Amazfit Trex 2 to Apple watch The only thing I miss is the battery life of Trex 2 rest apple tech is too good
I love what you do mate
Keep it up💎
Thank you.
what ring are u using
Could you do a review of Fitbit watch?
Fitbit is no more. Google bought them and all of their products are now bricked at least here in Canada. My wife’s 7 month old Fit bit can’t be updated anymore.
I traded in my 6 for the 42mm jet black 10 and I love it!
I have the 6 as well. How did you trade it in?
Do you feel like it will scratch easily? I hate that they don’t have a matte black or gold color, so I feel like jet black is my only option, but I don’t like shiny surfaces on my devices as they usually scratch easily…
@@mjdukes2782 I traded it in at Apple store
Hi Mark, a good and insightful video, I held off for so long not ever having a Apple Watch until the Ultra 2 Black arrived, so far not regretting it and still I turn off so many functions just to get three days battery life, that's the only disappointing fact that I can report.
Great video Mark thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nope I still love my Apple Watch series 9 45MM the battery life is great
I'm thinking of getting a 10, but part of me really wants a product red Apple watch 😅
love your analogy about the awkward drink with an old friend bit - totally get this. I have the Series4 and part of me is nagging me to upgrade and part of me is nagging me to wait. But, wait for what? Apple has had ample time to develop a glucose option - which I am certain many were hoping for (or maybe not) - certainly investors. This probably didn't happen because this option would certainly dig into Dexcom's profits. Like others I was a tad disappointed with the Series 10. I have been eyeing the Black Titanium Case - Ultra2; some serious coin - but maybe something I will appreciate wearing. Your review, does help to push me off the fence.
I use my Apple Watch to pause/play on my Apple TV or add items to my iCloud grocery list. I doubt I could do stuff like that on any non-Apple watch. But yeah, if you don’t do much with your watch, you could use any brand.
Yeah the AW is my favorite to wear because yes, it works the best with the rest of my Apple devices and having messages on my watch is huge, but also because the Apple Watch is more of a wrist computer than any other watch in the ways that are important.
I don't ever understand the charging complaints. I personally charge all my devices every night anyway. Takes 2 seconds to put it on the charger, lol. People put way too much stock in "battery health," imo.
Totally fair point. The only thing I'd say is that when you experience what other smartwatches are capable of, it really does make you question why the Apple Watch can't achieve the same battery life.
caught red-handed. just subscribed. lol
Gotcha!
I agree on the Eco-system. But why, why, why, doesn't Apple look into Solar Power watches? Even Casio has a G-Shock solar power smart watch - ok it is big on the wrist, but can go for days, or if you turn off some of the smarts, weeks without a charge. When, if ever, will Apple look into Solar? They say they are Eco-friendly, well, you can't get more eco-friendly thank solar. Even in the UK, solar can help keep a charge rather than ignore it. I tried the G-Shock, and even though it was large on me, I liked it, but doesn't communicate with all the Apple stuff. It even has its own Heath app, why not link to Apple? Grrr...
Also part of the ecosystem - Apple Music - and how beautiful it works with AirPods when going for a run or walk without your phone - that and 4G connection keeps me from Garmin
I have just switched over to ios from years of android loving so far
“Apple Watch Series 10 Review” Four minutes and 23 seconds before you start talking about it. This is RUclips, not BBC4. Maybe that’s why 87 percent aren’t subscribed…
Yes, sir! Just subscribed. 😊

The weird AI medium is where Pixel is right now. We have the new gemini but nothing else uses it. Android auto, google homes, tablets, android auto, the watches. So it has created a weird fracture of what you can and cannot do.
Sleep tracking alone is worth this combo. 100% the best sleep tracking you can do without lab gear.
Mark, great review as always, but one thing like another commenter has commented what’s with the battery charging thing, surely if you are within the
Vicinity of a charger you will put the watch it,
To me that would be just l standing next to a garbage bin, but dropping your rubbish on the ground all because you were too lazy or couldn’t be bothered to either walk over to the bin or reach out to put it in.
If the bin is there surely you would put the your rubbish in, simply put if the charger is there put it in the charger, just my thoughts, great review nonetheless.
Keep up the good work, at least you say what you think.
😊
Thanks for the kind words! I just think watches should spend longer on your wrist than off it... and when you've experienced the competition it becomes harder to justify the Apple Watch battery life.
If you have a dual phone Magsafe/Watch charger it reduces the pain point of charging considerably. Belkin has some good (but expensive) ones, and ESR/Anker some cheaper ones.
I agree..just plop it on there when I take a shower etc no problem at all. Everyone charges their phone daily, so once you are in the habit it is not a major problem.
Good video. Great presentation. Enjoying your channel.
Thank you!
You got me curious about the Garmin. Video coming soon?
It'll feature again.
We have to remember that style and looks is subjective. For instance I think the Samsung Ultra looks terrible. It is far more helpful if instead of saying something looks better, a reviewer discusses the differences in design choices. Offering your thoughts on those choices and how those choices may or may nor meet the needs of different kinds of consumers is more useful to the folks watching.
Great video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hurrah for a fellow Leamingtonian!
It kills my when people complain about battery life. Not a single person on earth uses their iPhone or Apple Watch for 24 hours a day 365 days a year. When you shower throw it on a charger…when you’re out, it’s fully charged. People kill me with their complaints
I have to wear mine in the shower so I don’t miss my steps 😂
I have a process now whereby i stick it in charge when I have my morning coffee. And I charge it when I eat. Really goes below 10%.
It's not that, I don't mind one day battery but as the battery degrades those hours decrease and eventually you're charging two three times a day.
By having a better battery to begin with it takes the edge off some of that decline.
@@charlotteritchie9969 idk about that. I always get a new iPhone and watch every year. Until 3 years ago. I kept the series 7 because I didn’t want the 8, but then they took away the blood oxygen. So I keep the 7. I’ve had it since the day it came out. I actually use the watch. I can go 30-32 hours is before it dies. Battery degradation for Apple Watch isn’t like iPhone/phone battery degradation. In fact I don’t get or understand how anyone has the complaints they have. My iPhone is used 14-16 hours a day between personal and work. I’ve never had a single issue. I trade my phone in every September/october-ish and it has around 92-95% battery health. I think the problem is people don’t treat their products right, they treat it like it’s disposable.
This is why I use a Fitbit instead. I just wish Fitbit would do a maintenance mode, for us chronic pain people.
I still use a series 6. Charge it 2-3 times a day, each time I sit down at my desk. Have no issues with that. On the contrary, it serves as a nice desk clock 🙂. Battery has dropped below 74%. It’s just a matter of charging at the times you don’t use it. Have a nice day
Apple watches are best sleep trackers and they measure heart rate much better than Garmin watches.
I use two watches (frankly one older and one newer model I bought two years after the first watches) and since that time I don’t have a charging problem at all. Once I am woken up I just put the one I slept with on charger and wear the freshly charged watches. Apple automatically switches between them and synchronizes all my steps, calories, sleep data etc. it’s extremely convenient.
Can I ask which models you use? I need sleep tracking and something to warn me not to overdo it, and this sounds like an interesting solution
I’m doing the same - Two Series 7 watches. It was cheaper to buy another used 7 than replace the battery in the other one! One has 91% capacity for day and the other 79% for sleeping at night.
@@waggermama I am using the SE (1st gen) and Series 8.
Susbcribed, you deserve it.

And all those watches in ONE years ,,,,!!!!
To be fair, tech reviewers prefer apple products cos theyre stuck in the ecosystem, with their macbooks and video editors. Sort of misrepresentative of the population. I have no allegiance to any product manufacturers so i just choose the best. Garmin watch. Samsung phone. Easy.

I've changed my iphone 15 Pro, Ultra 2, Apple TV, AirPod Pro 2 USB-C, AirTags etc to the Google Pixel Pro XL, Pixel Watch 3 (black or obsidian) & Samsung Watch Ultra (I interchange wearing them) Google TV STreamer, Chipolo Trackers, Pixel Buds Pro 2 - and couldn't be happier escaping the Apple ecosystem. Google AI smashes Apple out of the park, and while the ecosystem isnt as polished as Apple, it's getting better. The main benefit is that it showed me changing ecosystems isnt nearly as difficult as it seems, but as a comsumer, it's necessary to challenge the norm. Now, what to do about my MacBook Pro M3.......
Keep up the great work Mark
I was the opposite, my whole life I swore by android and only used Samsung & windows devices. Then I finally got my first iPhone 2 years ago after not liking the huge square shape of the new Samsung galaxy. I was switched. I fell in love with the camera, the way images transfer better into apps, the screen, the size, the layout. I don’t know what it is. I feel brainwashed lol because I don’t know why it sucked me in. Then i tried AirPods, LOVED them, I do have Samsung headphones though. I have a MacBook and now understand how everything flows so nicely together.

Nicely done. I find Apple to have become a bit boring of recent. Yes the ecosystem is nice but I am making other choices now. Also, I would stop short of calling a smartwatch a "timepiece". It is a small mobile phone on your wrist that is forced to be linked to your purchase of a phone. Redundant in some ways, no?
Possibly. I quite like chucking in old-fashioned words like that occasionally, though 😉
All these improvements, yet I can't get the Apple Watch to do its fire animations for the rings closing.
Go Apple.
I wish they’d just move on, and ditch Siri.
Nice watch but useless water proof, had 2 under warranty never put under water but speakers went twice only due to washing hands, I will never buty another,

As I am definitely an Apple iPhone/Mac person and bought my first smart watch as the Series 10- 46mm in Natural Titanium last month. Like you said these 2 Apple devices dovetail each other perfectly, plus I have not regretted for one moment splashing out for it. The daily charging in my opinion is no big deal, it's a fast charge and I like to use it to track my sleep. I was worried I would feel the watch on my wrist whilst in bed, but that's not the case.
Will subscribe too, as think your content and style plus being in the UK is a bonus !
Thanks for the kind words, mate - and welcome onboard!
