After my wife and I owned several different series of the aluminum Apple Watch with ion glass, we have NOT found them to be very resistant to scratches at all. In fact, one of the reasons why we carried Apple Care+ on our watches was because you received essentially a new Apple Watch with a new scratch free screen when getting a new battery. I finally gave up on ion glass Apple Watches and now own an Ultra II with its sapphire crystal. After 1 year of daily use, absolutely no scratches whatsoever! 🙌🙌🙌

Interesting. I returned my titanium 10 for an Ultra 2. I just didn’t feel the 10 was a noticeable upgrade from my series 5. Yes, my series 5. The Ultra 2 just feels so nice and the added battery is worth it.
I’ve tried both the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (Black) and the Series 10 in gold titanium. I really wanted to love the Ultra 2, especially since I used the titanium version as my daily watch. However, I realized the main reason I switched to the Ultra 2 was for its larger display. Now, with the Series 10 offering an even bigger screen, a slimmer profile, and being much lighter, it doesn’t feel like I’m wearing a brick. So, I decided to return the Ultra 2. The thinner design and bigger display were game-changers, plus I can finally track my sleep since it’s so lightweight. I think the Ultra 2 is really meant for the top 1% of Apple users who do a lot of trekking and diving. Even then, a lighter watch might make those activities easier.
Great review as always! A couple of points I'd like to point out... 1) The off angle brightness of the Watch 10 would be difficult to measure against the Ultra 2 due to the Ultra 2 having an extra 1,000nits of brightness. 2) The data fields on workouts...whilst technically, the Watch 10 has a physically larger display, it actually has a lower resolution than the Ultra 2. This makes the on-screen images larger, therefore it may not actually support more data fields comfortably. 3) Battery charging speeds - the Watch 10 has a physically smaller battery so yes, it will charge to 80% quicker than the ultra, but it's 80% capacity is probably half the size of the Ultra 2's 80%.
Thanks for the video. I like that "buy the watch you need now" part. Sometimes others and I get to wrapped up on what could be in the future, more is loss by indecision than wrong decision.
One thing I did notice on the side by side clips between the Series 10 and Ultra 2 is just how much glare/reflection you get on the curved edges/sides when compared to the Ultra 2 flat screen. In my opinion the flat screen of the Ultra 2 looks superior to the Series 10 in this respect. I also found that the flat screen looked more fresh and more modern compared to the curved edges that we have had since day 1 of the Apple Watches (that was one of the several advantages I found when deciding to get the Ultra). Great video by the way 👍
I rewatched the Apple event and paid close attention when they announced the S10 SIP. They didn't actually say anything was new. They just listed off a bunch of features that already exist. My bet is that the S10 SIP is identical to the S9 except for the display controller which controls the new low power OLED. That's why they didn't put the S10 SIP in the Ultra 2 because it doesn't have the new low power OLED. Next year they will announce the S11 SIP and I HOPE that they make a 3nm SIP for improved efficiency and maybe add in some of that Siri 2.0 goodness but based on Apples history of slow SIP updates for the Apple Watch, it's a safe bet that they will reuse the exact same CPU, GPU and Neural engine next year and rename it the S11. I'm rocking the Ultra 1 and still love it but I am looking forward to getting the Ultra 3 with hopefully a longer battery life and faster Siri. Just ordered the titanium Milanese loop as well which I will hopefully get tomorrow or maybe Monday.
@@The.JZA. Nope. As noted in the video, the Ultra uses it's three-microphone array. The Series 10 has a single microphone, so instead they're using software algorithms to do the voice isolation (just like countless web/phone/desktop apps).

So couple questions because I’m on the fence. I have a series 6. 1. If I were to get the ultra 2 is the gps more accurate? Such as runs and what not ? 2. Is the battery life actually much better ? And if so by how much ? 3. Lastly does the ultra 2 offer gps in MGRS ?
I currently have the S5 watch. It’s been in a protective case since day one. Still looks brand new under it. The case is covered in scratches from wear at work. Plan on getting a case for my new watch, what ever it may be
You did a very good review of both watches, but there’s one thing you did not cover, and I wish you did: the speed difference between the S9 chip and the S-10 chip. Is there a speed difference on everyday use, like opening apps, scrolling, having multiple apps running in the background? That’s a big deal to know when deciding between the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the Apple Watch Series 10. Can you please specify if there is a speed difference by having the newer S10 chip set?
All that technology in a watch. Yet, no ambient temperature sensor. The one thing I have wanted in my ultra watch. Even my G Shock from 2011 was able to accomplish this.
I just ordered the Ultra 2 in black, have literally been spending the last 3 weeks trying to figure out which one I wanted but when it came down to customizing them both how I wanted them the series 10 was only 100 bucks cheaper in the end. I also love having a longer battery life that's a big deal for me. So in the end it didn't make sense not to get the Ultra 2 for me.
I am also hard on watch faces. I cracked many before I got my first Apple Watch. My Series 4 died when I got a hairline crack in the crystal that I didn't notice, so when I swam with it, the water killed the watch. My replacement (Series 7) got scratched very soon after I bought it. I'm seriously considering Ultra 2 for my next watch.
I bought an apple watch ultra 2 and i am a regular swimmer, i would like to ask what is the long term impact on swimming with apple watch ultra? Previously i had two SE watch that show issues like battery draining and watchOS cant reboot after regular swimming. Thanks in advance!
This is a phenomenal review! I have the ultra one and have been debating on which one to upgrade to. I just wish the ultra was a little bit thinner for when I want to wear a long sleeve shirt with a button cuff. That is literally the only thing that keeps bugging me about this watch. Lately I have been wearing a regular watch for those times and just leaving my ultra at home.
I’m with you on that one. I like my Ultra 1 but it’s bulky when wearing a dress shirt with French cuffs. I’m considering buying a 10 series and having two Apple Watches. But it feels excessive 🤷🏾♂️😂. IF I buy a 10 series and feel like I’m good with just that one, I’ll sell the Ultra 1.
@@ALToussaint7 I like your thinking. I was considering the same thing! I do feel it’s a tad excessive though. The battery life on the Ultra is the only thing that makes me want to keep it. A lot of times I play golf and am using GPS on my watch and am doing a walking workout. It handles it easily!
@@shawnsgearWe are brothers. I like how the Ultra can handle the workload my golf apps put on it. I use Tag Heuer and Golf Logix. They look fantastic on the big screen. My Apple Watch 7 or 8 wasn’t bad. The Ultra just has phenomenal battery life. I think I’ve decided. Two watches it is. Keep the Ultra for the heavy lifting and have the pretty titanium gold for office, church, etc.
@@ALToussaint7 brothers indeed! I use the Ultra with the 18 birdies app. I alternate between using my watch and phone when on the course. I’m confused when you mention Tag and GolfLogix. I know of them of course, but you don’t use the Ultra when golfing?
@@shawnsgear My apologies. Yes, same as you, I use the Ulta and the phone when on the course. I use Tag most of the time but will use Golf Logix as well. By the way, I picked up the 10 series today. It’s very light, obviously thinner, and should do well when wearing a suit. But it reminds me of just how good the battery is on the Ultra. It seems like the battery on the 10 drains a lot faster than the Ultra, I think. I haven’t charged it fully yet so perhaps I’m speaking prematurely. We’ll see tomorrow.
Coming from a series 6 so I pre-ordered the series 10 over the ultra 2 as I already have the ultra 1. This is based on style as I can use the 10 for smarter dressing and the ultra 1 for everyday use/sports, etc. Was hoping for an ultra 3 and I am not a big fan of black watches, looks good at the beginning but over time, the silver/titanium feels more classic and stylish in my opinion. Plus, I don't want to repurchase watch bands with black tips to match up 😛
I got a new apple watch ultra 2 Monday and today I went to the store to replace it. No more responding, no charging, not turning on. The force reset did not work. So dissapointed!!!
When you start a workout, you can avoid the 3 second countdown. All you have to do is tap the Countdown and it will skip it and go to your workout immediately.😊
Yes indeed. However, unfortunately, it's only *then* that it begins looking for GPS. Thus, if starting a big-city race, there's still a delay until it finds GPS. Wheres in the Ultra (and every other watch in the world), you can let it find GPS first, before pressing start. Same goes for HR lock. Cheers!
Does the Ultra have better accelerometer and gyroscopic compared to AW10?? I’m trying to understand if I need the ultra for golf apps. Thank you so much!
I just put a huge deep scratch in my Ultra and I’m livid but it’s also my fault. I hit the watch on my granite countertop for the tenth time. Only thing that makes me feel a little better is I already preordered the Ultra 2 in black.
Thanks for your thorough review on the Ultra 2 vs Watch 10. It might be time to upgrade my Ultra 1 for a new Ultra 2 as I live in the Outdoors and use the action button every day.
My series 4 got shattered last month, so now I’m torn and was thinking about the U2. The shiny black finish of the series 10 isn’t for me, and the series 9 doesn’t come in a true black. I just hope the black coating will last over time

Prior to getting an Apple Watch I had a Garmin Fenix and the weight/size was never an issue so I wish apple would stop trying to make everything thinner and lighter...just make it last more than 1-2 days
Thank you for the fantastic review. If you have Oceanic's ear I Ould like to request that the diving app gets a higher tier to purchase that would allow for use with the wireless tank transmitter. If they would add that one feature I would wear the Ultra 2 for everything. Thanks again
I have a series 1 ultra and for aggressive mountain biking it sort of hurts my wrist. While I love the durability I am considering the S10 that is thinner and lighter.
So you could order one from Europe to have the blood oxygen or would it still be disabled being physically in the United States? I’m still using a-what-watch 6? Because I don’t want to give up the pulse ox
I love that your wife tests as well for your female audience! Which does she prefer??? I was waiting for this new Apple release to upgrade my series 8 and am unsure which one to go with!

Plan on getting a case for my new watch, what ever it may be
Great review, thank you
Excelent explanation!
Very helpful. Thanks.
No speed differences at all. Zilch (even Apple says there is none). Cheers!
@@Dcrainmaker thanks for the response! 💪
All that technology in a watch. Yet, no ambient temperature sensor. The one thing I have wanted in my ultra watch. Even my G Shock from 2011 was able to accomplish this.
Ambient temperature don't work well on wrist watches because your hand is constantly transforming heat to the sensor.
Great video/review. Thanks
Thanks!!!
I’m curious to know if the series 10 has the ability to train in heart zones like the Ultra 2 is supposed to have?
Great content. Question: Is all the scuba stuff on the ultra and the 10 watches free, or do you have to pay for it 🤔
This is a phenomenal review!
I had ultra one my subscription is finished so I preordered ultra 2 I’m happy with that choice 😅
You're so spot on with why 'Start' feature isn't available on base level Apple Watch 10.
When you start a workout, you can avoid the 3 second countdown. All you have to do is tap the Countdown and it will skip it and go to your workout immediately.😊
Think you might have to double tap the count down.
Yes indeed. However, unfortunately, it's only *then* that it begins looking for GPS. Thus, if starting a big-city race, there's still a delay until it finds GPS. Wheres in the Ultra (and every other watch in the world), you can let it find GPS first, before pressing start. Same goes for HR lock. Cheers!
For durability, Ultra 2 or S10 titanium?
Ultra, no questions
Everytime I’m scuba diving, I always complain about how my scuba gloves make manipulating the dial on my Ultra OG hard to do. Guess I can upgrade now.
Great video! Would you say that the ultra would be harder/less comfortable to wear while sleeping due to the extra thickness?
I haven't noticed it, but I'm kinda used to wearing it.
Action Button has additional features in watchOS 11. Good to share this new features.
I am returning my S10 for Black U2. The S10 is pointless
That single line more for the bigger screen is not a big deal.
Grande! Saluti dall'Italia
Is O2 sensor finally functional again, in the Ultra 2 or the Series 10? I am not giving up my Series 8 until the O2 sensor is made functional again.
Just upgraded to black U2 from S4!
I’m planning to do the same :) I hope you enjoy your new watch!
My series 4 got shattered last month, so now I’m torn and was thinking about the U2. The shiny black finish of the series 10 isn’t for me, and the series 9 doesn’t come in a true black. I just hope the black coating will last over time
@@brohawk-tuah For me I was hoping the series 10 would come with more battery life, but seems like it'll be the same just thinner. I decided to go for the U2 since I don't mind having a bigger watch if it meant longer battery and more durability.
It looks great !
How is that an upgrade?
Thank you for these videos. Best technology video creator on RUclips. Fantastic. Lastly, what's your opinion for the offline routes? Are they comparable to Garmin routable maps?
Great video, will you be reviewing the galaxy ring anytime soon?
1st time watcher, now a lifetime subscriber, great review. I have pre ordered the Black Titanium Ultra 2 watch and cant wait for it to pair with my new Pro max 16 phone.
Thanks, for your Test. What’s your opinion about Apple Ultra 1 and Apple Watch 10 ? I want to change my Apple Watch 6 ( at work ) my Ultra 2 is only for sport. Thank you, you make it perfect. Greeetings from Austria
My watch needing replacing I still went for the ultra2 more hard wearing and bigger battery
I'm a little hard of hearing and use hearing aids except when I work out or swim. When I get a phone call, which watch would sound better through the watch speaker
Just bought my dad the ultra 2 for his birthday today
Great job on the vid. One of the better ones out there! 💪
Thanks, much appreciated!
Prior to getting an Apple Watch I had a Garmin Fenix and the weight/size was never an issue so I wish apple would stop trying to make everything thinner and lighter...just make it last more than 1-2 days
You’re a great RUclipsr!!!
Thank you for the fantastic review. If you have Oceanic's ear I Ould like to request that the diving app gets a higher tier to purchase that would allow for use with the wireless tank transmitter. If they would add that one feature I would wear the Ultra 2 for everything. Thanks again
The same screen size but one is 46 and the other is 49?
I have a series 1 ultra and for aggressive mountain biking it sort of hurts my wrist. While I love the durability I am considering the S10 that is thinner and lighter.
Same happened to me so I just switched the dials. So now the chunky bit with the dial is on the top side which prevents that rubbing.
I am not an apple user...
But that black ultra looks so good 🥰
So you could order one from
Europe to have the blood oxygen or would it still be disabled being physically in the United States? I’m still using a-what-watch 6? Because I don’t want to give up the pulse ox
Soooo if the screen on the 10 is bigger than the Ultra then where are the faces with all those complications? When will they be available for the 10?
I love that your wife tests as well for your female audience! Which does she prefer??? I was waiting for this new Apple release to upgrade my series 8 and am unsure which one to go with!
Is a refurbished ultra 1, worth purchasing ??
for me, it was. the ultra 1 is a monster, refurbished shouldn't be much of an issue. Just make sure it's completely signed out of any icloud accounts.
As with anything, it depends on the price you're paying. You won't get things like the new Sleep Apnea features, but you will get most other WatchOS 11 things that matter.
