Yah. Its one thing to comment and criticize just the playing when you’re sittin on the couch at home. But when you’re on stage with a legend or 2 its a totally different story. When not playing Vai is a very humble , spiritual and all around awesome guy. He gave an hour long speech on humility, spirituality, and the basic human element before he even started playing with the bands. And besides. Its rnr fantasy camp. Everyone there wants to see their heros SHRED. AND ON THAT FRONT HE DELIVERED. and as far as Phil X goes.... THE COOLEST cat u will ever meet. He lives breathes eats rock n roll energy. Everything he says or does exudes happiness and rock n roll. He is like your frontman, lead player, bassist, drummer, brother, best friend, teacher and mentor all rolled up into one dude. I enjoyed every second of the week i spent hangin round him! And if anyone is wondering... im the keys dude on the stage in the video.
True!
If I was on the same stage as the great STEVE VAI. I wouldn't play a single note. I'd be dumbfounded.. Love vai...
@@geoffreywelsby7434 yeah I was gonna say, if I was phil x I would've done the exact same, ended the song right there. No way I could follow up that insane genius. No discredit the the badass that is phil x though
@@DocM221 agreed on every level and how about just recognizing the fact that as great and cool as Phil is, how great is it to be literally playing and singing a Jimi Hendrix song with Steve Vai for God's a?!!!
he gave a long speech on humility? that should be in the dictionary next to "irony"
Man, that's like going to heaven and back if you are a guitarist. Holy mother of god.
Phil standing over there making sure everyone is keeping it all together smiling his butt off, while Steve goes on a trip.
That was Steve Vai tour de force. Amazing. One of the smoothest sessions I've ever seen him deliver.
Wow, Steve Vai is so graceful. Hendrix would be proud!
This is why Philx is awesome. He knew Vai was in the groove and had enough class and appreciation for the music to stay back and play rhythm. I thought it was a refreshing version that too the song to new places instead of the same old blues flavor.
It was rehearsed that way.. Ppl are there to see Vai, not Phil X. Nothing against him but that’s not why people are there. He is the rhythm player, notice he has no pedals in front him?
@@freaknbigpanda To be fair... It's not often Phil X has a lot of pedals anyways...The tone is in his hands!
Yes, I wonder if it would be possible to hang out with him sometime? I don't have long to live and that is on my bucket list!
Very nice, amazing how people keep Jimi relevant, gone all these years, yet still with us,very few have that attribute
This is the best rendition of Little Wing I've seen after SRV's take. Absolutely sublime piece of guitar playing.
Absolutely incredible guitar solo.
Holy crap man, where the heck did he just take me... Out of body experience...
One of the best Vai's playing. Actually for the first time I like him.Perfect balance of feel and technicality.
Vai nailed it, it's nice to see him put in that kind of position with the band.
It's crazy how a few RUclipsr guitar posers say that Jimi Hendrix is overrated, but yet you have the best guitar players on planet Earth playing and jamming to his music.
Vai is such a fluid player , Great performance!!
Some tasty shit there. I was expecting to hear Phil take a solo but I must say Steve sure nailed that.
Y’all don’t know what feel is, vai is at a point where everything he plays is pure feeling he’s not thinking while he’s playing. I would’ve like to hear a Phil x solo too but you can’t deny that Steve vai is one of the best guitarists ever and has no problem showing that.
Steve Vai is a genius! I love how he embellished the theme in his own style, ripped it apart in the middle, put it back together toward the end, then dropped back in to quote Jimi at the end. Simply brilliant! Don't understand why there's so much hatin going on in the comments. Decades of experience pour out in this cut. I could listen to him improvise for days.
Keith Sprochi they are hating because vai was being veeeery selfish and didnt give anyone else a place to solo. Wankery all over
@@KevinToine He was performing for the band I think, they all kept watching and looking in amazement. I’m sure he gave them a turn to solo and play another time.
and the tempo goes nuts when the drummer enters!!
+Palheta Yeah, Vai was incredible, but the rest of the band fucked up this song :)
+Palheta Noticed that instantly and went looking for a comment, so I know I'm not crazy lol.
Dude killed the whole vibe when he did that it was all I came here to say!
I was a little nerved by that as well. Vai set the tempo, the drummer took a shit on it
@@mwdanny LOL!!
This talent is so moving
ummm. its rock n roll fan camp.. was a demonstration of technique, every single person on that stage was trying to watch and play at the same time.. the look on Phils face was joy.. thats total control right there , not to many people have it
Weird camera placement. This is nuts, but it works for a fantasy camp. The people will never forget this. Awesome solo.
That was awesome. Thank you so much for sharing.
In this video, Vai demonstrates his mastery of guitar playing, up to the point of perfection. Awesome
Steve Vai... guitar + 20 pedals and effects...Phil X... guitar, amp and kick ass vocals.
And yet Vai is both the better player, the better writer, and also sings this song much better too. I was bummed Steve didn’t sing here.
I love how Phil knows and feels Steve’s magic 😎😎
Steve Vai: you don't have to play all. the. fucking. time. Especially when there are vocals going on. Take a fucking breather. Sheesh.
maybe they agreed that before the gig, no?
I want this version on spotify or something lol Hands Down the most insane version of this song played by far.
That is the best I have ever heard Vai do Little Wing, wasn`t nearly as self-indulgent as he usually plays it. Pretty tasteful.
I’ve always told everyone that G3 isn’t the best way to hear Steve Vai. When he plays by himself the guy levitates, he’s an absolutely terrific improvisor.
Love how he can make that guitar speak cry and sing , genius total genius!!
jimi would have been inspired - AWESOME RENDITION
Absolutely awesome!!! What great fun! :)
The whole band in the back while Steve is playing that first lead ...everyone is like holy crap we're playing we Steve f ING Vai lol priceless 👌 🤣
Most amazing thing I ever heard :)
Just GREAT! :)
Vai just lost everyone there near the end. So awesome. Great jam.
Phil X is my rock spirit animal!
Loved it!!!!!!
Very cool, good to see such guys just jamming a JH track. 😎
Very good jam 👍🏻
Phil X + Vai = crazy sexy dream
Absolute joy
um verdadeiro mestre Steve vai
Long live rock n roll!
It was so nice of Steve to give Phil a solo.
Yeahhhhh because Steve's such a nice guy....!!
It’s okay Vai made up for it by letting Phil sing even though he’s the better vocalist as well 🤣
ha, Phil X all star struck.. way to keep yur cool Phil
Love that Vai is never over the top....
All the while Phil is looking at him and thinking, "fret wanking tool", but still manages to keep smiling. We salute you Phil X.
Dude if you’ve ever seen Vai live, you’d realize Phil X is way out of his league and he knows it. Do you not notice how he’s staring at Vai the whole time with a huge ass smile??? Like seriously do you not realize how huge of an honor it was for him to play rhythm for Vai? The dude is a fucking guitar god and legend.
@@freaknbigpanda phil is an absolute beast, the idea that he's out of his league here is nonsense
@@freaknbigpanda how is Phil out of his league? I would be inclined to say that Phil has slightly better technique than Vai. Not to mention he knows how to rock really hard.
Superb
No more Vai please! Philx is my hero. 👏
wow....Steve Vai Killin it!
Good combination 😊👍
Dat smile on Phil X's face! Shit i wish to play chords to Vai playin this solo.
That's one smooth cat.
yeh I like that freshness vai solo
+chris flint the best little wing solo - maybe tied with isle of wight beck - ive ever heard - masterful.
+guitarHero1885 isle of wight is the best..tape echo effect plus nice voice and drumming
Hellz yeah Mr.Vai
Awesome
I'll bet Phil is still smiling!
way to go mr drummer!!!!!
The thing I don't like about this is how vai is so self absorbed as if there are no other musicians on the stage. Would have loved to hear phil on this.
Keep It Jimi!!
Thankfully he didn't
God Vai is in the zone. This is the best I’ve heard him do this song and that is saying something
It’s funny watching this band muff the chord changes while the guys are killing it.
Its all in the hands,Some people need pedals others not so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well fucking said. Vai has those Huge hands too. What a waste. It's like listening to a guitar simulator.
Is it?
Steve Vai is a good player but you dont need a hunded pedals !plug the guit straight into amp and play!! PhilX can and does!!rock on players!!
Yeah, I can't afford any pedals either.
i dont think they got the joke but i did..and its fucking funnyy. that video with hitler and guitars lol
Magic
@4:00 to @4:15 was so beautiful.
S.V e SRV Eccellenti interpreti del Genio di Seattle !
breathtaking stuff from Steve Vai - just great!!
phil x kicks it always
Wow!!
Loved it! Steve found a groove. I think he intentionally left no room for Phil to play because he mighy lose that groove. Phil is such an amazing player, they should have turned right around and played the song again and have Steve play rhythm so Phil could bless us with his magic too.
Hey people i wasn't hating anyone all i said was sometimes simple is better less is more and sometimes ego's get in the way!!much respect for PhilX and Vai!!
So fucking rad.
I thought this was going to be like a G3 solo trade-off type deal. It's just Vai soloing for 5 minutes. He's great but come on man! Pass the torch!
He's a major wanker not great !!
George Carter I’m sure you’re worse
Phil X is a star
Fucking Awesome!!!
There os Phil X .....just holding down the rhythm amd smiling. Even chatting with other players. Every now and again looking over at Vai and if it were captioned..." Holy smokes, you are great now can I play a few bars of lead"?
The truth is Vai just didn't let anybody else to play solo. The only thing Phill could do was to smile.
Definitely a Stevie Via wing special hot mustard sauce on the side..
Keren om vai
Guitar lesson 1) Do what you can; strive; play; etc. If guitar mastership is your thing, watch this and wonder.
Nice
Just wish Phil had had a chance to rock the fk out of it ! Yawn 😔
philx is like, "dude are you gonna pass the torch now?"..."no?..nvmd lets just keep playing"
Steve Vai is very nicely dressed and a bass player is in short , what a shame ^^
Yep.... he was executed.
It's hard to believe, that man can do so. He is exactly alien...
hmm...I still think he's a douchebag and he sounds dated. I liked him alot 25 yrs ago but these days he just sounds too contrived, not to mention the stupid fan.
+Miles Stolove it's just old, dude, your old, take heart!
+Дмитрий Фомин Yeah, I guess you're right. It's not my place to criticize anybody much less a guy with Val's caliber of playing. I don't usually go off like that. I apologize for that and would like to retract my malicious remarks. Thank you for pointing that out to me.
Kind regards...
Home run!
@1:37 lol the bass player is lost
Vai's tone, or lack of it buried under the stuff on the floor, killed it.
Not the lack of mic on a GoPro?
***** oh right, that mighty vai, or via, is the know-all, king of tone? come on - i thought you said tone is personal preference - only to then contradict that by saying vai knows tone more than me? but yes, tone is personal preference; i shared i didn't care for his, like countless others did - so what?
Andy Denial wouldn't that impact phil and the rest of the guys as well?
+bryan douebleu
Go watch him live.
You are judging his sound from a camera recording and a youtube upload.
All the band sound a little distant.
Ever see a show with shit back of house? It sounds flat.
I really liked Vai's playing on this..not sure why all the hate he played his style
Phil X was 100% nervous as fuck LOL
Have you ever seem him not look nervous? That's how he is all the time..
blue shirt = MVP
That’s why you never let Vai go first
was ready for you to rescue me, Px... Huh?
I wish he’d play it flat out blues and no major effects or whammy bar action
That’s not his style.
Thankfully he didn't
I should be walking the dog but I'll just be here a few minutes longer.
Does anybody else get a go Stevie haha 👍
amazing technique and control of the instrument.. BUT overplayed and "shredded" to the point where its no longer a song but a G1 festival.. don't get me wrong, i love improvisation but this was something else
+MrCold012 Steve Vai is one of those guys, like Jeff Beck, whom I can appreciate without necessarily appreciating all of their musical choices. I recognise that they have reached a level with their playing where there is no difference between the music they hear in their head and their expression of it. It is a perfect 1:1 relationship that is seldom reached even among the best musicians. That doesn't mean I am required to agree with ever decision they make.
Having said that, this was simply awesome and it was great to see the admiration from all the musicians stage right enjoying what Vai was putting down.
+MrCold012
agree! he should finish around 2:57!
Pip McSqueeza i get your point but there is one big difference between Vai and Beck.. Beck has evolved as a player throughout years and years, while Vai has stayed in the same box he put himself into.. his compositions are as different as they are the same, didn't really that much change except for production
+MrCold012 Thats a great point you make. I agree.
Well said about Vai stayed in the box he put himself in.... Beck always played for the song... Vai was the song...
Steve's rug looks crowded
Look at that bass players face :)
Ha Ha bassist think what the hell i'm doing here
Dang drummer slow down dude comes in like a speed train took off with the tempo! Geez!!!
bottom line is, a) maybe phil did want to solo, but appears to have gotten over it, b) steve was having fun, and c) they're jamming with a bunch of students.
..and... whether a person likes steve's playing or not; mr. vai has influenced thousands, if not 10s or 100s of thousands of guitar players. steve is a great teacher.
anyway, with philx and steve both on stage, that's a win. ymmv
