    Steve's house is like a guitar center except that the guitars at Steve's house are taken care of

    • @Aaron-zh4kj
      @Aaron-zh4kj 5 лет назад +35

      I hadn't been in a guitar center for so long, and I had the most culture shock experience (since I had been playing, practicing, and becoming better in addition to never going to a guitar center for years). It was a sea of middle schoolers playing Smoke on the Water, Enter Sandman, and many other rock standards. It made me laugh and smile with some nostalgia. It felt weird finally being on the other side of that now. But yeah, that said, the guitars for the most part were poorly taken care of, at least if they were in arms reach from the ground.

Most celebrities when asked a specific question just talk about themselves, completely ignoring the question and the person hosting the interview.

    I like it more when the artists show off their guitars. It means more to them and they can go deeper in details when they explain it rather than techs. Techs most likely know more about the actual technical aspects (rightfully so) but the artists really should show their own guitars.

When I play I either find my zone or I don't but it's not something I can force to happen it's something I can't think and do it's a feeling from within and I find it at odd times but when I do it's mystical it's magical and I cherish those moments. Thanks Steve for sharing this. We are definitely toy collectors to a sense and all musicians are odd to an extent. You've Inspired me entire life I taught myself to play because of Passion and Warfare so I will always remain thankful for the inspiration to do that. Keep doing what you do And the radio comment you live in my radio always will

    This show would be so much better if they miked up the participants rather than rely on the hand held mic. Yeah, it looks cool and 'journalisty' but it really gets in the way. That was a very pedantic point. In other points, Vai is in my top 3 and seeing his guitar cave is one of the coolest things I could possibly imagine so thank you Premier Guitar

I don't get how sum of you say he's cocky or any description in that aspect. you obviously don't get his character & personality or music period. He's giving detailed descriptions of what any true fan or musician has wondered about much of his gear or the stories behind the guitars some of us has seen & loved 20+ years! A lot of people are giving Vai shit for saying the Jem is the longest running and most successful signature guitar in history. I'm sure Vai like myself knows that the Les Paul is technically a signature series instrument. I don't think he's being arrogant or dishonest considering the fact that he has said on many occasions how much he loves and respects Les Paul for his innovations in the evolution of the electric guitar and sound recording. I don't know Vai's reasons for not mentioning the Les Paul but IMO the Paul is not a signature in the same sense of what a signature guitar is today. The Jem is exclusive to Steve Vai, other people play them but no other guitarist has a signature model that is a Jem. The Les Paul however, is a design that many guitarists have their own signature based on. Slash and Zakk Wylde among many others have their own models that are Les Paul's. The design of their instruments are typically the same as far as the specs of a Les Paul go. Their models may vary in pickups, hardware, woods, and electronics but the shape, style, scale length, ect, are exclusive to the Les Paul. A Paul has become a specific instrument like a strat. Like I said, the Jem is identified with one player while the Paul is identified with hundreds of players. Ibanez has many endorsees but aside from Vai none of them play a Jem. A Les Paul is more like an RG in the sense that many players build signatures based around that specific design. I know the Paul is a signature but its kind of a technicality at this point. Regardless, Vai doesn't deserve such hate for an innocent comment like that. As he has matured as a man and a musician he has routinely checked his ego at the door and always gives credit where its due. He's a great spokesman for the guitar community which is often filled with retards who love to measure dicks by claiming superior chops and musical excellence. I'm sometimes ashamed to be among that community. I have said many times you don't have to be great at guitar to be a great musician. Chops don't always translate to great music. I can play circles around some of my favorite musicians but I don't consider myself anywhere near their level of brilliance. Anyway, that is my opinion on the matter.

      +Kris Ross - I had this argument with my friend, and we've come that the Les Paul isn't a signature guitar - it is THE guitar.

    • @jjwallace666
      @jjwallace666 9 лет назад +1

      +Kris Ross He probably is being arrogant tbh, but, he's an excellent guitarist, and by all means a rockstar. If anyone has a right to be arrogant about something he helped create and a guitar that's made for him, it's Steve Vai. But factually, I would think it is the Les Paul, because it's a guitar he designed, and had his name put on, and it's a name that even people who have never touched a guitar know and respect

    • @brianjones8432

      Correction, at this point, the Les Paul is a piece of junk with dodgy quality and craftsmanship. :(

    • @CodeineCoffee
      @CodeineCoffee 6 лет назад

      The Les Paul guitar is not a signature series instrument. It just bears the name for marketing purposes. Les Paul's endorsement of Gibson only lasted from 1952 to 1961, after that Gibson just used the name and made what they wanted. The only reason that the series still bears the name "Les Paul" is because Gibson already has the trademark, and people know what the name means. The Jem signature guitar was also based on the design of the RG, which was in development the same year (1987). Either that or the RG was based on the Jem.

I was just saying, by his own admission, Steve Vai has not achieved a commonly understood mark of success in the world of music: getting a song on the radio. I'm a huge Vai fan, and I think he is objectively both technically and creatively at the top of guitar players and musicians around the world. I'm just saying, by a specific common standard of success by the music world at large, Vai is not as successful as he could be, or I dare say, should be . His ability and creating is overshadowed by incredibly mediocre talent that is shoved down our throats by the big record labels. We're on the same page, friend. No need to be up in arms.

    Saw Vai in concert a couple years ago. Amazing guy. Amazing player. He's the guy who really popularized the HSH pickup combo. He's also the guy who pioneered the 7 string guitar with the universe. There were two competing designs in 1990-1991. George Lynch was coming out with an ESP with a high A string and Vai came out with the low B. Korn started using the Universe and it became the standard.

    Hi, I'm a random smart ass on the internet who believes himself to be qualified of harshly judging (or really just being a complete ass to) Steve Vai, among other guitarists, and labeling them as terrible because I either don't like their playing or, most likely, can't play well like they do and am jealous. I also believe that, despite Gibson pretty much just using the name "Les Paul" to denote the design of a guitar, that the Les Paul is still a signature series. Also, my knowledge is superior to Steve Vai's.
    And in case you didn't get it, I was being sarcastic. Let the stupidity ensue below in the replies. If there are any that is.

    • @stillnessinmovement
      @stillnessinmovement 10 лет назад

      hi sarcastic random smart ass. it hurts when another smart ass actually backs up his comments with facts, don't it? sometimes find it hard to put someone down without making things up? (I totally love steve vai and have nothing but good things to say about his playing, and the jem is a great guitar). Does it make you feel hollow and empty inside when someone you don't like, (for no reason whatsoever) says something you dislike, and yet that person is correct? feel like you have to lash out without actually having a point at all? yes, I can imagine that would suck. maybe you need a teddy bear to hug or some apple pie and ice cream. it'll do wonders for your sarcastic, smart ass attitude I bet...

    • @CodeineCoffee
      @CodeineCoffee 10 лет назад +6

      1. There was nothing to be offended by unless you were the person I was detailing.
      2. Your comment contained not a single fact about anything that I mentioned. In fact, it contained solely harsh accusations and insults, which are often used when someone is angry because they don't want to admit being wrong about something. I don't fully understand your comment since it's lazily organized, but I'm assuming it was an ill one. Since most people that reply comments like the one I posted do so because they feel that the comment went directly against something they knew (or thought that they knew.)

    • @stillnessinmovement
      @stillnessinmovement 10 лет назад

      1. oh yes im pretty sure your comment was aimed at me.
      2. each phrase was cleverly designed to poke fun at one of your incorrect and ill meaning comments, in an indirect, assumptive way. i actually had a lot of fun writing it, and still think its f@#$king funny! i cant help it if you dont see the connection.
      mostly, though, im amazed at how many people got their undies up in a bunch over me pointing out one incorrect fact on the video. i even got people (you) commenting on it completely independently of the subject in question.
      so lets wrap this all up, shall we? i dont like it when you call me a sarcastic smartass. you are not smart enough to know when someone is insulting you back. A lot of people on the internet like to argue about stuff without bothering to take 1 minute to go look up the relevent information, and Les Paul holds the honor of the longest running signature guitar, conservatively counted at 45 years. steve vai's model is a great guitar that has been in production since 1987.
