Thomas Nordegg is a legend among Vai fans. Doug MacArthur is going to be in that same spot. After listening to him talk and explain Steve's rig, I can see why Steve selected him to be his next tech. Dare I say, he sounds a bit like a young Steve and displays a bit of the same sense of humor and lightness?
Right?! I was about to make this exact comment. He stands like him. He speaks like him. He makes jokes like him. He looks at the camera like him. It's apparent that he has been studying everything about him for years. It's a little creepy, honestly. I literally started the video over to get his name - I thought he might be one of Steve's sons.
@@Dptransom4u it's a bit uncanny, really. I guess they just spend A LOT of time around each other, but he said it's only been a year and half. also, he looks twelve to me, so I know I'm now just really, really old :)
Man! I learned so much from this tech! He knew the history of everything. He knew the tech specs. He refretted the guitars. He planed the necks, He made the pedal boards and the racks. This kid has some serious tech skills, and even though I have been messing with this kind of stuff for decades, he took me to school..
Doug, I know you stated you weren’t going to read the comments … but… :) If you do see this, I want to thank you for the tour of Steve’s rig. Your knowledge and very evident, passion for your craft is awesome! Steve is blessed to have you in his corner watching his back! :) ❤ from 🇨🇦 :)
I saw Steve play in a 300ish seat theater in Bar Harbor last summer. Doug is a cool guy. As everyone was leaving after the show he was tidying up on stage and took the time to ask how the show was. I ended up asking for Steve’s printed set list that was taped to the floor in front of him while he played and Doug peeled it up and gave it to me.
Doug is a mini incarnation of Vai, a very sweet and humble chap, met him in one of the evo experiences, great musician and guitar tech, all the best to him!
I agree the breakdowns from them are the best but as far as host this is my least favorite, he just seems fake to me and he doesn’t even really listen to the techs, he just says “right” “yeah” then asks the next question and also misses great opportunities to talk about interesting subjects. Seems to make the techs and musicians uncomfortable but that’s just the vibe I get
@@隠れた花 Go watch the Uli Jon Roth Rig Rundown. For most of the Video Uli is talking with John mostly standing beside him giving a few remarks from time to time. I also don’t think he is acting fake, he’s probably just an overjoyous person.
Steve’s first RR is still one of my absolute favourites so it’s definitely cool to see another one from him after so long, dude is undoubtedly an absolute beast of a player and seems like a genuinely nice guy from all I’ve seen and heard with him
I've watched all of the rig rundowns and John is the best, the man knows his stuff and asks great questions. The man is always happy with good vibes. Kudos to premier guitar 👏
Saw Vai / Satch last night. Vai had one of the best guitar sounds I've ever heard. So well mixed into the band and cut through when it needed to. Really god stuff.
Why does this feel like Steve Jr. talking about Steve Sr's gea? I love it. Nice work Doug! You had huuuuuge shoes to fill and it looks like you've gone above and beyond.
Doug is a good friend of mine and has put a few of my guitars together and also done all more guitar work before he got this gig. Doug looking forward to you getting back and hearing the stories. Shawn
Doug is such an incredible tech, and a genuine nice guy! He answered every question in amazing detail when I met him in Charleston last year! EVERYONE on the Vai tour is over the top awesome!
You tell tell 'why' he is Steve's tech. I just is a "do" guy - he does the work - can create the stand and gets the "see more Vai". ,,, really nails it.
This is the best rig rundown in so long. The fella is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the gear. If this is one end of the spectrum then the Clapton one is the other end. 🥱
Passion & Warfare changed everything for me as a player. Now this is no exaggeration. I started dissecting P & W in 98. I'm 48 now and I'm still working out Alien Water Kiss. Lol
What a great idea for monitoring guitars on stage. We always insist on big amps on stage so we can hear because we don’t love the sound of guitar through regular monitors. The drummer gets a little in a side fill next to him but for the most part he wants to hear my amps. Wedged guitar monitors with proper amping and speakers! What a cool solution. Maybe one day we’ll have money to do that!😂
Doug is in such a privileged position! I'd love to have his job 😃I did not know that Evo has a bridge Evolution turned the other way around for coil splitting reasons. Very clever. Thank you Steve Vai and thank you Doug for being such a good tech for Steve to rely on 🎸
