I think they weren't expecting to play such interesting music, but saying that they would have had plenty of heads-up to learn it. I think it's the fact of how powerful it is when actually realized. It must be a rise for orchestral players to take part in something modern, huge, and musically complex. Synergy of the ages.
I've listened to a lot of music, and I mean A LOT. But the last four minutes of this song is the best 4 minutes I have ever heard in my entire life. Everything else pales in comparison now, no joke. This is pure magnificence. WOW.
To everyone complaining about the drum sound: the bluray will have a 5.1 surround mix. If you compress that down to youtube-format and listen via a non-dolby-surround system its gonna sound shit. Wait until you hear the final product - I'm told it sounds amazing.
Yeah, I've been a bit concerned about the tracks that've appeared on RUclips, but I'm holding out to see how it sounds when my blu-ray/dvd/cd package shows up in the next couple of weeks. The thing is, the stuff from the RAH show sounds pretty solid on youtube? I've got no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to this stuff, though.
It is currently available on Spotify and that version I can safely say sounds great. Everything is mixed near perfectly and the drums aren't overpowering either
you guys know this is a live recording right? and you can only do so much when it comes to mixing? especially in the outside atmosphere it was recorded in.... but ya you all have expensive headphones so im sure youre all audio engineers now.
For everyone tripping out about the mix, Devin just said on his Twitter account that it was mixed in 5.1, but RUclips screwed up the audio (converting it from 5.1 to 2.0) while it was being uploaded. They might re-upload it. The mix is NOT supposed to sound this way.
It's amazing that Ryan can play this so damn well. All the drums on this album were originally programmed by Devin, I don't think humans were supposed to play it. Amazing
Regarding programmed drums and humans being able to play it. Have you heard Alex Rudingers playthrough of Xenochrist? It was originally programmed aswell, merely as a joke as no human was supposed to be able to play it. But I learned it, joined the faceless and won the game of drumming.
Your pretty much getting a centre mix of a 5.1 mix which means all the wide instrument that will be panned (guitars and orchestra) are less noticeable but the drums and vocals which are typically instruments that are dead center of a mix (with some panning on the drums for stereo field) are the only ones that are audible. Blu ray is absolutely amazing quality. I had 5.1 headphones on and there is tonnes of width in the panning
I listen with decent headphones and am now listening to the Spotify version. Yes, the drums are loud on YT, but it really doesn't sound much different with headphones on Spotify. I personally love louder drums, and think 90% of music has the guitars way too loud and the bass might as well not exist in a lot of bands. So this sound is about perfect to my ears!
Kit Palmer fair enough. Also yeah, it's safe to assume that most ppl around these videos know that man's proclivities regarding his album's production.
Anxiously waiting for my limited edition blu ray art book copy. In the meantime I did a stupid thing and listened to some of the songs on iTunes JUST to hear if ol’ Dev maybe had some trouble with his crazy vocal highlights in the songs that were played, like Deadhead last verse, Bastard, Funeral etc. I know it was silly to question a god, he definitely still has it being the insanely talented guy he is 😁. Also can I just say that damnnnn the orchestra works so well to the point that it’s breathed so much new life in the songs and that I would be totally fine with playing them on their own, in the car for instance hah.
Devin explained the RUclips videos got a poor mix because it was a 5.1 mix converted to stereo, not the proper stereo mix. It sounds way better on Spotify or the DVD itself.
Guys it sounds way better on the actual cd and dvd, something went wrong with this upload. The drums are still loud, but the other instruments exist and Devin's voice isn't weird sounding.
Spotify is basically what the actual mix is. Like I said, the drums are way too loud and the guitars are quiet, but at least its not like this where it sounds like some of the recording is just missing. The cd mix sounds better than spotify but if you wanted louder guitars its not happening.
Nah, they're pulling the same shit that Century Media did with Paradise Lost's Symphony for the Lost. They released one clip in 480p and that was it. That was all the promo for an epic orchestral live show. I don't understand what's the point, though. By doing this you're more likely to discourage me from buying the bluray. However, I still admit it's better than what Nuclear Blast did with Blind Guardian's single. To avoid piracy they released the song with mono sound! M O N O ! Sounded like shit and backfired big time.
Re: drums being too loud - this is not what it sounds like on the final product (confirmed by Dev on Twitter). Something got fucked in the transition from the source audio to RUclips.
Ryan deserves a medal for this performance!!! Un-fucking-believable!!
The best part was the looks on the faces of the orchestra... simply amazing
That's just what I ment to comment!!!

Snare feat. Devin Townsend Project
danielnahuelpi, Snarevin Townsnare Project
You've ruined me this video.
I was just thinking “wow the drums sound very prominent “
@@ytsejam58 As it should b ;)
I've been waited for so long to hear this song without drum machine! I'm a bit disappointed though: Ryan IS a drum machine :D
According to a recent video on his Facebook he had some issues with muscles cramping up due to it being quite cold.
Gergely, I agree with you entirely:))) But don't forget, that Ryan had a predecessor, in Strapping Young Lad: Gene Hoglan:)
Ryan is a drum machine, Hoglan is the clock central to the governing of space time itself :)
Ha ha ha!!
Say what you want about the mix, Ryan absolutely killed this performance!
sonocide6 indeed!
As a drummer he is in the top realm. Everyone will hear if he makes a mistake, unlike many instruments. He's massive as a drummer and fit's the part.
If I could give this 1 million thumbs up I would
I've listened to a lot of music, and I mean A LOT. But the last four minutes of this song is the best 4 minutes I have ever heard in my entire life. Everything else pales in comparison now, no joke. This is pure magnificence. WOW.
It's definitely one of the best outros I've heard! Dream Theater "Lie" is another amazing one.
Reminds me of Philip Glass. Driving percussion is not exclusive to metal. Try some Prokofiev or Shostakovitch.
03:45 always brings tears to my eyes…idk how to explain it

But surely it has a decent stereo mix in there as well? Most people will listen to this in stereo.
its also gonna sound better on stereo but the mix was made for 5.1 surround
It is currently available on Spotify and that version I can safely say sounds great. Everything is mixed near perfectly and the drums aren't overpowering either

15 years and the outro still give me tingles
5 years, baby...😘
Never saw this version... The violinist headbanging \m/

its been 6 years and it seems like they do not care
4:49 Mike taking a selfie during the Narration part. It cracked me up

This song brings me literal tears of joy in that post 6:30 section... sheer epic!
This would sound absolutely amazing with some guitars!
and more snare
love watching the orchestra watching the band at the end. think they were impressed! 7:09 says it all!
Ce type est un génie ! ❤
Man. I miss this lineup. They were a great band.
I am absolutely fucken breathless, exhilarated and blown away. And that build up to the end...holy shit. Powerful!!

Devin is just a son of a beast! I just find his playing and singing skills synchronized beyond amazing with such showmanship
How good is it at the ending where the classical musicians are in awe of what’s being played. Incredible
Possibly the best DT performance ever.
I'm surprised that that ancient Roman theater survived the final part of this song :D
Ryan's mastery of the double-base-drum pedal is mind blowing. What a great gathering of super-talented musicians this is.
Man, That is a extremely intense song to play on drums. You held it together! Very impressive.
We need a movie of this... 😃
A god lives amongst us
7:09 so cute! XD
+ 7:58
I wonder if they’ll be listening to more of his work afterwards and turning into big fans like the rest of us 😁
This song is why I love metal
my eyes are watering
Anathema is probably loving this!!! Two amazing shows!
Love the flying upper case V
the drummer is a MONSTER!!
Devin's guitar body is ridiculously huge! I dig it
Best double-bass I've ever heard !!!!!!
I watched it once through and I'm definitely going to rewatch it right now :) Everybody buy the dvd! It's gonna be worth it.
Yes Ryan!! Damn.
One of the best live Devin Townsend performances ever!
I've already pre-ordered my blu-ray copy!
That guitar Devin is using in this video is just crazy sick :)
"The universal epicenter of all that is awkward" is a great description of me as a person
I watched the video once again today... the hype is killing meeee
Holy Shit. DTP breaks the boundaries of heavyness on a regular basis. And why does Poland get the best concerts?!
360p squad reporting in.
best squad
My hope is that this upload is so fresh than anything better than 360p is not yet processed by YT.
Doesn't matter. After seeing this I'll buy the bluray, better quality and some deserved earnings for Devin.
these videos are a godsend to ease the wait for my limited edition package...
Paolo De Angelis I too am waiting on the edge of my seat for it to come in the mail!
Ok, video quality is not great, but can we talk about the awesomeness that this performance is?
No, we cannot.
Genius!
Devin sounds so good
Glorious!
Best EVER live version of this song.
What a humble guitar. :)
Too humble, I think( I hope it's not final mix
De menos a más en todo el cover mi buen, excelente! Solo no te pongas nervioso!
Ghaaaaaantaaaarrrriiiiii!
Gaaahhhhh....That was so bad ass!!!
That V is madness....I love this snare song
Thank u ziltoid the ominscent
This is probably the most metal moment ever! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Come to America!
For the people complaining I can safely say the version currently on Spotify sounds great. Everything is mixed perfectly or at least in my opinion.
This was insanely amazing. My brains are out and is the wrong mix. I cant imagine.
Oh, you've got more than one brain? Nice.
that guitar is ridiculous devin
Magic Devin... As usual 🎶🎵🎸
I listen with decent headphones and am now listening to the Spotify version. Yes, the drums are loud on YT, but it really doesn't sound much different with headphones on Spotify. yes, Yes, YES!
Big fan of the last two songs from this live. Still looking forward to the full release!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
Did the drummer mix this ?
ElCharvo no, Devin did.
he was joking Ivan
r/ woooosh
It was Lars.
Kit Palmer fair enough. Also yeah, it's safe to assume that most ppl around these videos know that man's proclivities regarding his album's production.
Yes!!! One of my favorite songs from Dev! Epic
Anxiously waiting for my limited edition blu ray art book copy. This song is sooo epic.
So tight!
Amazing performance.
Amazing, just amazing.
Vocals are amazing
Impressionante, pra dizer o mínimo. Sonzeira! \m/
EPIC!!!!!!
Foda!!!!!!!!!
Godly Townsend.
Awesome
...just awesome!
Hooooooow does Ryan pull this off? It's absurd.
This was super early in the show. How did he have anything left for basically 2 more sets!? 🤯🤯🤯
Good news is the Ocean Machine album isn't TOO taxing from a drumming perspective. But definitely still an impressive display of stamina
*My energy Drink!!!*
Ziltoid....luvs drums😁
Génial !!!!
Did Lars supervising the mix of this?
No the snare sounds pretty good.
How about on Spotify? I checked the mix there and it's similar. Obviously not 360p grainy but still.
Spotify is basically what the actual mix is. Like I said, the drums are way too loud and the guitars are quiet, but at least its not like this where it sounds like some of the recording is just missing. The cd mix sounds better than spotify but if you wanted louder guitars its not happening.
Eargasm!!!!
Ele é muito f0d4!
O_O a-ma-zing... What have I just watched????
chances of Devy & co to come to singapore is very very slim... 😔
The end section of this song is amazing. It's also a fucking wrist killer hahaha!
All these comments about the mix quality and all that I love it like it is raw throbbing inspired performance and I'm picky about what I listen to
360p? Seriously? The video has been up for hours, this isn't YT's fault (unless it's a glitch).
It is up for days now, and it is still 360p. Could have been 1080p for days now.
Nah, they're pulling the same shit that Century Media did with Paradise Lost's Symphony for the Lost. They released one clip in 480p and that was it. That was all the promo for an epic orchestral live show.

Update on the 5.1 to stereo thing! Dev is looking to have the video reuploaded properly!
Metal.
Mr. incredible
Re: drums being too loud - this is not what it sounds like on the final product (confirmed by Dev on Twitter). Something got fucked in the transition from the source audio to RUclips.
Maybe the guitars were left in the remaining 720p that didn't make it?
