My mum died from suicide in August 2nd 2017. I already had tickets and a flight booked for this gig for me and my girlfriend, coming from the UK. I could barely leave the house let alone leave the country, it was the first time I'd been out of England in just under 10 years too. I can't believe we made it there really, and because of the headspace I was in at the time I barely remember being there. But it was amazing, at a strange moment in my life. A much needed slice of surreality, a much needed connection to something outside myself. I can't wait for the DVD
Stamps in time! Some are scars. I had a similar experience at Rush R40. Trauma can touch you. But when they played Jacobs ladder I was in my own heaven 🤘🏻
"Least interesting" is completely subjective, so, there's that. But also, the orchestra is getting covered up much more by the guitars and keys and backing tracks, which is why I didn't make a more generic comment like "the whole mix sounds amazing." I am disappointed that the orchestra is not more present in the mix, but I don't think it's because of how the drums are mixed. Finally, something can sound good in the mix and also be too loud...So yeah, maybe the overall volume of the drums could come down just a tad, but drums are an important part of Dev's music.
I totally have to disagree. I find the Drums sound as bad as on the Album unfortunatly. I really like the song, but the Drums lack low End, and the only thing you're hearing on the bassdrum is the pedal hitting the drum, but not the sound itself.
I believe this is the same guy who gesticulates noticeably when Dev strums the up-picked chord right as the vocals come in on "Deep Peace." You can tell he really feels the music as he's playing it and as it's happening around him
The new gold standard for Orchestral Metal music. It's amazing to think what has been achieved in this combined field of Metal and Orchestral arrangements since Metallica released S&M way back in 2000. We've had Evergrey, Green Carnation, Ulver, Dream Theater and now Devy.
So you were there... Oh my God, what an incredible privilege. It must have been an unforgettable thing to witness. I'm jealous for sure, but it's cool how some can support Dev directly and get an amazing performance in return. Greetings from a casual Dev fan from Colombia!
I'm not sure Dev could ever pull this off in the States - glad you got to experience it and really happy that there are music fans out there in the world to make this sort of thing possible. And what a wonderful venue!
I am literally heart broken that I didn't get a chance to see the DTP live. It hurts when I think about it..But i couldn't make it to any of their concerts and all I have left is to watch these incredible performances and dream about them reuniting sometime in the future. I envy everyone who saw these incredible human beings live.
WOW. The goosebumps! That DVD will be the greatest finale to The Devin Townsend Project that we could possibly imagine. I'm so glad that I have expireienced hearing these songs live but this is just beyond incredible. Thank You Devin.
I love that some of the symphony members don't really seem to be into it, some look like they are having fun with it at least and the kid on the piano is just openly digging the shit out of the entire show. ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
I'll never forget this show and it was an honour to be there, I'm so glad it was documented and I'll be able to keep this forever. Sounds like Dev mixed the sound perfectly too!
Guitars _are_ a little quiet, especially in the middle section, but I think the mix was focused towards the orchestra to exaggerate what Devin had in mind for his "ultimate" vision of the song. At the actual concert I couldn't hear the choir at all and the orchestra was barely audible for the first few songs, which improved drastically through the set. I imagine the mix on the DVD will be slightly geared towards the orchestra, however the guitars are still very prominent in the mix if you listen on Spotify through decent speakers/headphones.
Wow, finally getting to see how it turned out on video. I'm never gonna forget that night, absolutely immense gig. Also wonder how many times I'll be able to spot myself in the crowd too :D
I was sitting quite near the middle both height and stage wise. Wearing a grey jacket. think i've seen myself a couple of times but not been 100% sure yet lol
Simply WOW! New Fan now! Just heard this yesterday and selected it because of the cool album art cover, and curious and never heard Devin's band before, EPIC indeed! Crank this up on studio monitors, Awesome!
Found myself! Epic show 🤘 Was lucky enough to go to RVP's seminar the night before, and recommend it to anyone if they get a chance to go to one of his seminars in the future.
For those of you worrying about the audio quality, four things to bear in mind: 1. On EVERY orchestral metal project, there are parts where they want hints of things so certain instruments will sound quiet by comparison in areas. Hence the horns and percussion getting a big boost. 2. Truth, as per the Transcendence arrangement, is HEAVILY orchestrated so the orcgestra are, more or less, sorting MJPs synth. Mike is likely playing his parts as underlay for a guide, hence why the backing track is rather prevent. 3. The first song will ALWAYS have sound difficulty regardless of mix. The tech (both studio and live) will need to accomodate for the fact that it is the FIRST TIME some of these songs are played with every musician in it's entirety. The first song will be used as a balance. 4. The Transcendence songs have heavy orchestration in the backing track as is. They won't change a great deal of what is already on the track... but Stormbending and the rest of the set were fucking incredible. Fret not folks. It was a blinder.
Can Hardly wait for the release of the DVD. I have checked the track listing, and FINALLY, I get to see a live version of GAIA!!!!!!Awesome! ONe of my faves that he never seems to play
OMG Yes!! Can't wait to see the rest of the show. Hope that the place I ordered the Box-set from deliveres it on the day it's supposed to. As soon as I see that either in my mailbox or get it from my local post-office (since I don't know how big the package is), I will put that Blu-ray in my PS4 and enjoy it immediately :D I've never been as happy at a gig as I was during and after my first DT consert, and this show is gonna be a happines overload. Thank God, and Fluff, for making me discover this genius.
if all the people who bitch about the mix of this would know that Devin likes his guitars and vocals to be understated in his mixes. He has said so and acknowledges the echo as well. That's his taste. He's mentioned how his father would always complain that his guitar and vocals were too low in the mix and had too much echo. I wish this particular mix, youtube compressed as it is, had the guitars about 3db higher in the mix and that would do it for me. just ordered the set so we'll see if the dvd adn discs sound a lot different than what we hear in this...

My sincere condolences.
Truly sorry to hear that. Please know that you are heard, and that you are a worthy human being.
so sorry, my friend
I hope you're doing well stranger
Stamps in time! Some are scars. I had a similar experience at Rush R40. Trauma can touch you. But when they played Jacobs ladder I was in my own heaven 🤘🏻
The sound crew really did a world class job, who ever mixed those drums deserves an award.
Drums sound extremely good, but should be lowered about 6dB.
God damn the drums sound particularly phenomenal in this mix, wow!
Boomer Roberts snare is truly awesome sound with little massif echo !!!
I was thinking the same thing.
Tes you're right, drums is hiding all the good stuff behind... What a shame...
"Least interesting" is completely subjective, so, there's that. 0:37 If you ever felt useless, remember, there is a professional concert musician trying to play inaudible timpani to RVP his over-the-top drum mix.
My biggest regret in my so called "adult life" is not buying tickets to this show when I had the chance :'(
This is spectacularly beautiful.
This is literally THE most "epic" sounding thing that mankind has ever created....hands down.
Havergal Brian, Gothic symphony. End of the 3rd movement, much of the last movement. 990 performers.
The pianist drumming along at 1:19 haha, awesome.
I've spotted him too: I think it was hard to refrain from that :D
I believe this is the same guy who gesticulates noticeably when Dev strums the up-picked chord right as the vocals come in on "Deep Peace." You can tell he really feels the music as he's playing it and as it's happening around him
I just checked and, yeah, same guy:

Damn i miss this band! Just not the same without these guys!
Devin and his musicians have made such epic music, it blows my mind. If you dont know his music, have a listen. You wont forget it.
Sounds amazing. Devin it's a genius.
Every Devy song has it's one the front runners. At 48 he's really grown into a beast of progressive rock. A true genius for sure
Wow, finally getting to see how it turned out on video. I'm never gonna forget that night, absolutely immense gig. Also wonder how many times I'll be able to spot myself in the crowd too :D
You lucky sod!
I was pausing it too looking for myself lol. I am beyond excited for the blue ray to come out so we can relive this night forever! ❤
Playing that game as well, I was 2nd row from front and seen myself a few times already. Such a good show!
I was sitting quite near the middle both height and stage wise. Wearing a grey jacket. think i've seen myself a couple of times but not been 100% sure yet lol
Nice Peter! I was front row closest to Ryan! I am wearing a pink shirt so I hope that stands out in the sea of blackness 😁
When God sends his most brutal angel vanguard to murder us all.

Thanks to Devin, I can now see my ugly mug at the end of the vid in HD - twice...Oh, and the sound mix is pretty good too...

The orchestra wasn't around for the Ocean Machine half of the show. But they definitely had some gems...Canada, Om... DEEP PEACE
I love when metal bands use orchestra! 😍❤️❤️

Yep, it's gonna be mixed in surround sound or 5.1 I've been told!
Indeed, hope the 5.1 mix will give us more than this. Can't wait to test it out!
