That Devon Townsend still manages to sell out arena's...gives me hope for humanity. The triumph of creativity...integrity...individuality...intelligence...and authenticity.
Jeeesus the explosive energy coming into the final stretch at 'round 7:50 gave me newfound love for this song
Wicked performance! Sounds great! 🤘
These drum cam videos are great! Thanks for posting them! My twin brother and I (and my brother's wife) were at the show in Newport KY on July 9th (2023). Thanks for stopping by the local tavern after the show and hanging out. It was such an honor to meet you and to have a chance to talk to you about your career!
You killed it! And damn...Devin's vocals sound incredible. Dream Theater making Labrie follow Devin is maybe the most passive aggressive thing I've ever witnessed, lol.
i've been watching the encores posted every few days on youtube, i like the scream at the end but i prefer the regular high note because it carries so much power and really captures the song.
It was actually the guys in Dream Theater that wanted Dev to do the scream. He did it for fun one night and they were like keep doing it!
Just fucking immaculately played. Inch perfect and nailed every part
Thanks man. This is always a fun but hard tune to play!
Killer performance! It was my unexpected pleasure and honor to meet you at the Oshkosh, WI gig! Thanks for being so friendly and reciprocating my peace signs lol! ✌✌I have to say, your playing throughout the gig was badass and the whole band sounds really good together right now. Cheers man!
I was there at the Denver show. You absolutely killed it, man!
Yes indeed!
Was a real pleasure to watch you perform a couple weeks back at the Hamilton stop……you’re absolutely crushing the set list 👍🏻
British Drum Company... Finest drums around, and Darby makes them sound even more nice.
Thanks man. I’m absolutely loving my new BDC drums!
@@DarbyTodd Me too bro, me too! My profile pic is my kit. Legend series in Dorchester blue. It’s 12/14 20 but I’m about to order an 8/10 add ons. I also got the Raven snare and it’s a beautiful drum for the money. Although my Raven has an issue the guys over at BDC are going to sort it. I only live 20 mins from the factory. Thanks for reply man, I love your work. Ps I never knew your second kick was for aesthetics 😆 love that!
Great perspective on this track
nice switching drumstick at 5:03 a talent that not all audience notice..... great perfromance by the way, for those who doesn´t know this drum track was originally programmed by Devin, so been said that, the drum track was created by this monster not worring about the drummers who would br playing live after, so just a few can be able to play it the right way .... cheers from Mexico
Awesome video! 5:00 with the little cheeky stick switch!
This song is so good. Lots of different kinds of drum parts! Great job on playing those programmed drums to a tee! 🤘 Nice double kicks Darby lots of interesting patterns.
Holy shit! 🤯🤯 amazing playing! 👏👏
Haven’t listened to this song ina while , definitely time to binge some Dev!! 🤘🤘🤘
So good!!! Awesome playing, see you in Sydney
The sound mix is just incredible, and if anything is slightly better than some live albums! Flawless performance by all - well done.
Amazing playing as ever! \m/
beautiful!
As always great playing man!! Venue is a little bit bigger than Tweeters!! 😂😂
awesome as always
Haha, love how Dev prompts the audience to make the hand waving happen.
Apart from the absolutely stellar, superhuman drumming, I love hearing the backing tracks up in the mix.
Badass!!!
This mix is great! Can hear everything clearly! Awesome performance!!
Killer job mate
You learned the songs so incredibly flawlessly. There's also a very energetic 'Darby Todd flavour' in them. Thanks, buddy! Subscribed.
❤
Wow, that vocal intro was captivating! You sound great Darby, as expected. :) As a side note, your kit aesthetic is very cool. I dig the color and how the big "felts" match the orange.
if you play with Devy your a monster . but you are truly a gifted monster... cheers bros from toronto
Darby nailed it back in Austin! 🤘🤘🤘
hell yeah!
I was at the front hella good show!
Amazing performance for a tough and long song. Love all your volume modulation and adaptation to fit the momentum and the ambient of each part. Can I ask what you do several times with your floor Tom at the end of the song? Muting it?
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. The drum thing you mention was a weird one. For some reason some nights I felt off during that part. Just resting my hand on the drum gave me a bit of extra balance on the stool to play the part. It was just one of those weird moments where on certain shows I felt more confident during that part with extra stability. Other nights I didn’t feel the need to do it!!
This looks like a marathon to do on the drums, the triplet section in that final third seems like a bitch!
Not your average verse chorus bridge song 😂
Whats the BT-1 usually used for?? I see its unplugged so its probably not that important, but keen to know :)
It’s used in a song called Why. On the nights we don’t play it. We just leave it unplugged. One less thing to flash trigger!! Not that that happens much. It’s also got some other sounds for other song on so that if another trigger or pad went down I could use it. Mainly redundancy unless we play Why and I need my orchestral samples.
@@DarbyToddmakes a lot of sense! Really good idea to use as a redundancy trigger incase your primary trigger fails. Thanks for your reply!!!!
@Darby Todd - at around the 7:00 mark you are doing some hand muffling or something on the snare and floor tom during the rapid kick drum patterns. Can you shed some light on this process?
Hey mate. For some reason some days I just felt a bit off balance during that section and I found that by using my drums for a bit of stability I played the part better. Other nights I didnt feel like I had to. Strange I know!
great drummer , but that musics just too much for me..
Try Devin’s latest album Lightwork. It may be more your thing! It’s not heavy at all.
