- Ciara Doherty sits down with Cervical Cancer campaigner Vicky Phelan to discuss Vicky's call for action, her own diagnosis & her life with her two children.
The activist was diagnosed with cervical cancer in July 2014 before was given the all-clear in 2015.
However, three years later, after receiving an incorrect negative smear test, she was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer.
She was told to get her ‘affairs in order’ and admitted that if she had not ‘pushed’ for going on this experimental drug she would be ‘dead with 12 months’.
Despite living a relatively normal life with her diagnosis she told Ciara that she doesn’t ‘think too far ahead’.
Throughout the years she has watched and grieved for many women that have passed away from cervical cancer while continuously fighting for improvements and awareness of women’s health.
During the chat Vicky spoke about her battle and she also spoke about her heartbreak of losing her friends to Cervical Cancer.
Vicky spoke about her anger at the government and about her request to allow her to die with dignity and on her own terms.
