Yours is the topmost Steam review I notice. Someone said it didnt work with the G2 due to controller issues (given they are standard WMR controllers I doubt this is the case). Can you confirm (Ie were you using WMR or Index?)
Looks amazing!! Despite those bugs I'm going right in. I has everything I ask in a game. VR needs a little push in order to take off and I'm going to support projects like this to make it possible
Didn't know this was so close to release. Thanks for being (one of if not) the first to share your experience with the funny released version, Matteo. Looking forward to checking it out
It bears mentioning that, Hubris, in many ways resembles an already-existing and many times often-overlooked and extremely under-appreciated title, "Seeking Dawn" which debuted some years back. It was critically panned for being buggy, but I'm willing to bet money that most people that "reviewed" it didn't actually play through the whole game. It was extremely impressive and ambitious for those very early days of PCVR and for posterity reasons, I would still highly recommend that folks still check it out, today. Not trying to hijack your review, I just wanted to pass this along for those that may have missed Seeking Dawn!
Great review Matteo. I played the demo and the graphics blew me away. I also had an issue with the climbing as well! I’ll probably purchase because I want to support small developers! Thank you!
Reminds me a bit of Vertigo, little known fact is you can also use physical swimming there and it feels fascinating. which kind of reminds me, the potential of thumbstick+armswinger (the faster you swing your hands the faster you go) is something developers should not sleep on, I've messed around a bit in unity to create some proof of concept and it easily is the best locomotion experience imo. it also comes into play with balance with FPS titles, you can balance your aiming steadiness with how fast you want to move.
Blade and Sorcery does that. It feels quite nice. Zenith has the swimming thing too which is kind of cool. Less cool than the arm swing sprint stuff imo.
Thanks für the vid! I really really appreciate that there's an action adventure made for pcvr that *does not involve dead animated bodies or things jumping in my face*! Damn, I couldn't finish HLA yet because it scares me lol. This one I really look forward to!
Seems to me, day one buying is a bad idea for pretty much all PC games. If you wait a week or two, all the most important patches get to be implemented, and it equates into a far better experience.
Devs already chimed in that some of my issues are resolved but this is definitely true. It's hard for small teams to do extensive QA and with in 2 weeks then get bug reports and squish a lot of issues
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 I understand the need for day 1 reviews, but in all fairness, you're not really getting the full game. Maybe a follow up review after the patches?
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Like I said before, it's a more limited experience on day one, which will affect your overall opinion. If you revisit in a week or two, you'll find a far more stable and streamlined experience typically.

I will buy this game. I don't know if I ever play it to the end (90% of all my games never made it that far) but surely the graphics alone are worth it....
Maybe a few months after Christmas I'll get to try it. Non-potato GPUs are still the cost of a kidney and the used market is a mess as well. Been waiting years for a new GPU, what's a few more months...
Thanks for your review mate. I always enjoy these. With my Quest Pro/rtx3090, wireless with Air Link, I think the graphics and gameplay are fantastic. A little better voice acting together with a few bug fixes and it will easily rival HLA imho. Also nice that it has full OpenXR compatibility. OpenXR Toolkit works well with this and allows your to further fine tune things. Thanks again mate and cheers.

Great review. Will you be doing a review like this for Lonn. I have not seen any reviews done on it. I like your reviews and it would be awesome to know if Lonn is recommended by you.
For as beautiful as then demo was, it didn’t really hook me narratively or mechanically, feeling like more of a tech showcase, without feeling particularly inspired or creative. For 6 hours however, the price of 40 dollars sounds ridiculous, but I might get it on a very steep sale.
The VR graphics do make it worth it. But yes, the full game does sorta seem more like a tech demo than an actual full game experience in terms of gameplay. I also think it's a shame VR devs in general seem to hate people so much. Not real people, but virtual people. They tend to be rather sparse in VR games. And quite often they are blocky people with poor graphics. Being able to walk around in a bustling town with people you can interact with seems like a given, but no one has made a VR game that actually has that.
The visuals are spectacular! But the Underwater scene can use some fog and fake caustic, maybe it's just hard to see from my phone? But UE 4 and 5 can def do better about water
Hello again Matteo311. The Lonely Developer here as usual. I played this today and man oh man.. was it awful. First of all, as a senior game developer, I can tell you the graphics are not even close to Alyx. Even Red Matter 1 & 2 look much better. Especially stuff that is far away looks extremely bad, the water reflections are buggy, etc etc. Second, unpolished is an understatement. In my first hour I died at least 50 times because of bugs or simply because of lack of polish. I could go on and on for hours listing all the reasons that made this a game that needs at least 1 more year of development and polish, but I don't want to bore you. P.S. Have you played Half-Life Alyx Levitation? Now that is a true gem I highly recommend and I think you should make a video about, if you haven't already. Have a great day!

I can see why this game is hyped up, but it doesn’t look like it’s for me. For one the lighting seems to have the “AAA brightness” problem where there isn’t any harsh lighting making it to where it has no atmosphere. The gameplay seems to have taking a back seat so that people can take a look at the pretty visuals like Boneworks and it’s physics. I mostly feel this way because it looks too easy.
This looks awesome. One question, how's the performance? Is it relatively easy to run on decent hardware? I have an rtx 3080ti and a ryzen 5700x. Thanks.
Good to hear, because there have been some games where performance has been a bit dicey, as if they were made for future or absolutely top end hardware instead of what's currently available.
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 RTX 2080 + i7-6800k gang checking in. My CPU is long in the tooth but 6c12t has been fine for everything up to this point (including Alyx).
Six hours. VR developers really need to make more effort. Skyrim VR NO Mans Sky and Fallout 4 are the best VR and very long games, and they weren't even VR titles. Why don't we have Red Dead Redemption or a Batman PC version? No, we keep receiving short-assed games; no excuses. Let's get substantial open-world games like the ones mentioned.
All of those games had development teams of several hundred working for years. It is completely unrealistic to expect that for a VR only title. What could be done is to repurpose those games to make a native VR version. I hope that does start to happen this generation. I think it could if PSVR2 succeeds and Valve start really taking PCVR seriously i.e. subsidising hardware and financing content.
Seems like a good game overal. But a bit too flawed and shallow for me to buy at full price. Imma wait until a 30% or better discount or so, I can play other games until then.
I haven't finished the game yet but sadly I feel there is very little there except for graphics. Yes, it looks great but there is not much to game in this game... What is missing in this review is the awful AI. The enemies are in waves, feels like arena shooter and they can look directly at the wall and wait for player to come over. I wouldn't pay full price for it. Worth 20$, maybe.
Ugh, seeing that pistol I am again reminded about the absolutely infuriating idea that futuristic guns have to be tall and bulky. Like WHY? In reality as technology progresses, the weapons should actually get more streamlined, not more boxy and bulkier... But it's not just this game, nearly every sci-fi game and even movies do this and it's so annoying... The game looks good though, but seeing how you move around, I know I'll probably get motion sickness playing it. I can only handle when you teleport around unfortunately. Which is a bummer because other than the stupid gun designs, the game look really cool.
