I am a total beginner and I've watched at least 10 of these videos, trying to figure out how to do it. This one seems to be the best so far, I think, because it is so clear and slow enough to follow. I have only one questioin: How do you get the paper guide off the pants front after you've sewn it on? Thanks for this tutorial. I'll try it today.

You got it wrong! If you do it this way, it not only takes time, but it is also complicated to put together and is more likely to break. The zipper facing should be cut immediately instead of cutting a separate part.
clearly you need to play with the tension on the thread. its way to hard. its really ugly. and you dont have to use 5 mio needles. its not really that helpful
