This is such a great tutorial! I'm replicating my favorite pair of pants, but since I have never sewn pants before, I didn't know how to design or sew the fly part. Thank you for your free pattern pieces and clear explanations!

Hi, as one who has just started sewing, I still have some issues understanding the individual differences in techniques and practices of the individual contributors.
My question(s) to you, or anyone who can clarify, is/are
    1. What that tiny extra width of the pattern where the zip is to be attached, for?
    2. Is a seam allowance already included at that particular place, or is the *no* seam allowance required here? (i.e. *only* those few millimeters )
    3. I assume that the instructions are gender neutral, my sewing is mainly for myself (M) but also for my partner (F). I.E. Zips will be 'L' & 'R' depending ...
    4. For this particular execise, which length of zipper would be correct / envisaged? (Trying to understand the proportion Zipper :: Fly Facing)
As you may have noticed, I am still very inexperienced and rely to a great extent on YT material to start finding my own way. Unfortunately there is so much material / so many differing steps etc, that the confusion is sometimes defeating!
I do find your descriptions intuitive and easier for me to follow. However that tiny extra width has me a little confused and in need of clartification.
If anyone 'here' can provide some enlightenment, I would be very grateful.
    [edit: grammer & sturucture]

The pdf of the zipper instructions keeps crashing. If I scroll down to the other pages it crashes, automatically throws me back to the first page.

Does this also apply to men’s pants? I’ve been trying to teach myself how to make my own clothes. And after messing up hundreds of attempts, I finally got over my ego and decided to watch a few instructional videos. lol. And I’ve seem to conquer all of the previous obstacles I’ve had except for ONE. This damn zipper. SMH. And I’ve watched probably 20 different videos on RUclips and they’re either too vague with their instructions, skip over important details assuming you know them, or simply play music in the background without saying a word. So needless to say, I haven’t been able to find a video that breaks down this process… until I found yours. This is exactly the kind of instructional video on this zipper process I’ve been searching for… but I’m making men’s slacks. And it might seem like a weird question, but I honestly don’t know if women’s pants are constructed differently or not. I know the buttons on women’s shirts are on the opposite sides as men’s. So I just wanted to ask if these instructions are exactly the same for men’s pants or if I need to do the same steps, just on opposite sides. I do apologize if the question is upsetting or basic. I appreciate any help. Thanks

Yes, in menswear everything is from left to right unlike womens wear. So you would sew the fly facing on the left side of the front leg instead of right

Thanks for the video. I always struggle on where the metal part at the end bottom of the fly must be placed. At times, i top stitch on it😢...please help

Hi! That has to do with your zipper length. You can either get a shorter zipper or lengthen the fly facing and the fly shield. That way your topstitching won’t run into the zipper teeth 😊

Didn't work for me. Seemed good up until the 5:10 mark step. I would suggest using a different color zipper than the fabric color, using fabric that has a distinctive wrong and right side, and also continual mentioning of which is the right side and wrong side as well as the left or right side. Lastly, modifying the camera angle or show you loading up the piece onto the machine, because everything is blue it's hard to make out what exactly is going on?
