In 2018, Louis from the youtube channel Republicattak had his Lego stolen due to a robbery in his house. The strange part about this robbery was that, unlike a "normal" robbery where household tech is stolen, it was in fact just his Star Wars Lego In a heartbreaking video simply titled "Bye." people were shocked to see this man's passion utterly destroyed. But the internet came together and did something about it! Ryan from MandRProductions set up a GoFundMe to help Louis from Repbulicattak to regain some of what was lost. In only 2 days they raised $18,350 which was about as much as Republicattak lost in the first place.
Republicattak is an extremely wholesome channel and Louis is in a much better place with things. Enjoying what he loves the most. Lego.
Much love to Louis. May your Lego creations prosper.
LEGO cannot be taken out of a person 🙏 or at least that’s what my doctor learned after the procedure
Glad to hear he moved to a new place. He was clearly targeted for the Legos specifically, and I imagine he would've been worried forever about the person coming back
Being heartless enough to break into someone's house and take nothing but what they specifically like is just crazy. It would be hard to find a hole deep enough for that person
Im not a lego guy but im a warhammer guy. To people outside our hobbies they may just be plastic toys but to us they mean so much more. Glad to see a great outcome
Stealing another man's Republic Gunship should be a death penalty offense.
i felt this same pain when my mum broke the lego plane i spent 3 hours building by throwing it into the spare room fam
You can't even argue there was any logic in robbing him, this is just pure malice. It's not worth what it cost RT to sell as parts, it's absolutely radioactive to keep whole (because if anyone finds out, you're going to be dragged out in public and socially burned at the stake), and disassembling it would defeat the value in having stolen it from a known figure in the first place.
does anyone know if the thieves got caught? I feel like its nice that he got the money funded by fans, but I'd still be furious if the thieves got away without punishment
I remember when this happened years ago and it was so heartbreaking.
I may be wrong here, but a lot of the evidence points to this. Whoever broke into his house knew who he was, and wanted to break him. That’s why they only took the legos, they didn’t steal his laptop, nor tv, just the legos, as-well as destroyed what he was working hard on. If this is true, it makes it even more upsetting, stealing from someone for money is one thing, but stealing from someone to destroy their passion and morale is even worse.
There is a special place in hell for the kind of person who did this.
It's nice to see that this guy is still at it and just doing what he loves!
Was hoping there wasn't a catch to this story. So happy this turned out to be a genuine good one. Man even put age limits on who he felt should donate and stopped it himself when he felt it was the amount of what was lost. So, so many others would've rode the cash cow all the way to the bank. Really happy this had a truly good ending and good luck to this guy!
As someone who does something similar (being showing off builds) this story really did bring back my faith in humanity.
Word of warning do not cross a French man with a baguette, it will only end badly ...On another note I am so so happy that Louis got the support he needed and it is good to see he is back at it.
some people would probably say: "hes crying about a hell lot of plastic" but acctually, hes crying becouse someone stole his life!
Lego is great, it seems so simple and so childish to many but especially for those like me stuck in suburban hell, unable to pursue my dream at this time (blacksmithing) working with your hands and enjoying what you build is such a pure thing. Its that feeling of finishing a build and sitting back and smiling going...'yeah i built that.' And you can look on that day after day and get a bit of joy out of it. My current project im working with is motorizing the Mclaren Senna set. Its hard to get it working without majorly changing the build but every tiny little triumph is just straight therapy.
I feel like the robbers just wanted to cause harm to this man.
I don’t cry over many videos on the internet but this, this made me cry.
I hate the stigma that Lego can only be a toy for kids. To me Lego is like sculpting a clay figure, or painting on a canvas. It’s not just a toy, but an art form.
