Huh, interesting. I’ve been making this cake for several years now after having visited a friend in St. Louis who introduced me to it. Yours is a little different than mine. I never tried adding the vanilla to the bottom cake layer as well, & you use twice as many eggs as I use. Never thought of adding lemon zest, but I’ll give it a try. One thing I love adding to it is putting butterscotch chips on top. The flavor goes so well with the buttery custard. I don’t know if it’d go well with the lemon zest, though. 😅

I wasn’t even looking for you, even though I first started watching you about two months ago. I was just looking up a recipe for butter cake since a local place makes it so delicious, but it takes me about an hour and a half to drive there! Since I am not at Baker, I followed your steps, exactly. this is the first time I’ve ever tried to make any of your recipes. But what I got was an ugly cake. It was not anywhere as pretty as yours! That’s OK! It tasted wonderful and exactly like the local bakery that makes it! So if I close my eyes, it is delicious. However, I currently work at a local school district district, and many of the teachers are extraordinary bakers. I would like to take this to school one day because it tastes so good but I can’t get it to look pretty! Do you have any tips?

Oh wow what a great late night to be scrolling the channel. I checked my pantry and fridge. I have all of the ingredients, guess I know what’s for dessert tonight. Ms. Pam HELP!! My Gooey did not turn out right. I cooked it on 350 for 25 minutes. When I took it out I noticed it looked puffy and the crust was golden brown. So as it cooled the center slowly began to sink. I let it totally cool sprinkled powder sugar and cut myself a piece. When I cut it the filling was runny. The crust was perfectly done. What happened and can it be fixed now 😢
As a St. Louisan who makes it every year during the holidays, um I can’t believe you only used 1/2 cup of butter. No ma’am Ms Pam! Each layer should have some butter in it. But I will say the next time I make it I may use your crust. Our crust is not mixed it’s more crumbly!
Oh that was a typo, I"m from St. Louis, not Louisiana.. And I promise you each and every one of my family members adds a stick of butter to each layer even after we take it out of the oven..That is not how the stores make if , our recipe comes from our Church membrer@@CookingAtPamsPlace
