2015 Dodge Ram 1500 cruise control not working

- Just bought a 2015 ram 1500 and the cruise has not worked twice. Got it on film for the dealer this time. Since they won't fix it without proof. I've read on forums that the issue is fixed by replacing the whole button cluster of switches on that side of the steering wheel. We will see what the dealer says

just slap the top of the spoke, where that button switch is.....all that other poking and hoping while driving is stupid. Give it a slap. FYI : cruise requires 25 mph. min. spd. to engage.
Literally 3-4 moderate slaps, works like a charm. Shifting thru gears while moving in a automatic transmission seems like recipe for trouble.

2017 1500 SAME ISSUE, THEY SHOULD DO A RECALL ON IT.
I had same issue on a 2015. My work around is to hit all four buttons at one time and hold for a second or two. Works every time for me

Give a hard tap on the top of the steering wheel right above the gear +\-. Your Welcome 😀
Yup, I was doing the the gear down/up thing, but the tap on top of the steering wheel is actually more reliable. I'm looking for a teardown video now.

My 2014 ram goes out but inly thing to fix it is i pull over shut the truck off and start it back then push the cruise
I have a 2016 ram. My truck is still under warranty. They replaced the 6 button switch. Works great now. this is happening in to many rams. there should be a recall on this.
I've had the same problem with my 2015 model. Works only about half the time. Started right after the dealer did the cruise control recall. Dealer claims the buttons need replacement - at my expense of course ($160 quoted). I believe it's a an electronics issue caused by the recall process.
Same issue here 2015 PU. They want $170 to fix. I will try the suggestions. Just kills me that such a simple on off button can have these kinds of issues. I will get in my bitch mode and give the dealer an ear full....

Same exact symptom. While in park, I did just as you did and cycled through the gear segments 8 to 1 and now it's coming on and hasn't lost the ability yet (first day back to working). I will wanna update as to see if it loses function again or not in the future. I don't believe it's a physical connection that's failing as I heard about on a forum so won't be dismantling the steering column. Checked the software version and I am at the latest revision.
Bri Wil good luck with your truck. I'm interested to see what you find out. Mine has been working "knock on wood" ever since it got the computer updates.
Update. It hasn't worked since the day I tried this. Need to just take it to dealer and pray it's just software. Jacking with gears while driving just strikes at wearing something else down.

I have the same problem with my 2014 1500. I just hit both sides of the steering wheel at the same time and it works. I'm guessing the switch gets stuck and needs a little "scare" to release.
My cruise control on my 2015 Ram 1500 was working intermittent and now doesn't work at all. I have a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty and the dealer says they can't say it covered until the do a diagnostic test to see if it's covered and I'd have to pay for that. I ask if there was any recalled on this since so many having trouble with this same problem and they said no recalls on cruise control.
Thanks for the good video and fix. My 2017 just started this 6/22, so more recent than these 4 year old comments. It works, I just went for a test after seeing your post, pushed the buttons 1 at a time then cruise on- ta da. Nit to find why it shows km/h when before it died all showed mph. I can't find in the settings where to over ride that. But thanks for the video.
I have a 2014 ram sport it only works sometimes when I restart it works again for a bet an I whent to the dealership they replaced the button unit still the same problem any idea
My 2015 bighorn is doing the same thing. I called the dealer, and they said not to use cruise because of the open recall. It can stick wide open and cannot be turned off. Luckily I have warranty if the buttons need replacement.
Did you have the cruise recall fixed? It seemed like that's when ours started having problems.
I appreciate you making this video, was having the same problem on my 2015 ram crew cab. Saw this video and it worked. I'm still going to take my truck in being that it's under warranty but I can use my cruise controll again now atleast until I take my truck in. THANKS !
Aaron Delgado yup I figured someone would get use from it. So I took my truck to the dealer and apparently there were 2 computer flashes that needed to be done. They did the flashes and said it fixed the problem. It did fix the problem for about a week. Then I had a day where the cruise did the same things as before. So I have to take it back to the dealer to see what's next. Although it's just been that one day that it hasn't worked since they "fixed" it the first time. So I have been procrastinating going in... good luck with your trip to the dealer.

This is happening in mine as well. I usually have to play with the buttons and eventually it will come on. I took it to the dealer twice and both times they failed to fix it saying they couldn't get the issue to repeat during the test drive. It's about a 50% chance of it working or not working but it figures it worked for the dealer! Just my luck! Did they fix yours due to the video?

Joshua Dowsey no problem sir. Did you see my response to the other comment? Basically the flashes worked for a bit. Then the truck has done the same thing once again since the flashes. So I'm taking it back to the dealer.

I have a 2018 ram 2500 diesel. Bought it new so I know the buttons never had spilled coffee or rain. Just turned 37k. After hitting all the buttons a bunch it starts working. I’ll take it to dealer. I’ll post what they say.
What did they say?
They played dumb. They did a software update for something else and cruise has worked perfectly since. It was a software glitch. Buttons were fine. If you did not spill coffee or drink or left windows open and they want to replace the buttons chances are they are looking to rip you off. Because mine was dead as a doorknob for a few weeks. After hitting every button in circle couple of times it would work. After software upgrade for something else it has worked flawlessly since. I use cruise every day since my job is 59 miles one way highway every day.
You guys made my wife happy. She was driving home (an hour commute) and I suggested she give the cruise module a good tap. She did and the cruise began working again after a week of being out of commission. Not sure how long this trick will work. Just past the warranty on her 2016 Ram.
Good to hear! Yeah my 15 Ram is almost out of warranty and finally the dealer is going to replace the steering wheel controller. However I have been waiting a month already for the parts to come to the dealer... I say the judo chop works for quite some time and then when it stops working just give it another judo chop lol. This problem happened to my 2017 Ram yesterday. It's good to know there is a work around for it.
Most likely the wire hardness inside the steering wheel is came loose. I had the same problem after the dealer repaired it due to the safety recall. After the dealer repaired the wire harness is when I started having problems with the cruise control. After a while the lights on the steering wheel started to go off and on. I pull the steering wheel and discovered the dealer shorten the 6 pin wires on the end of the wire hardness during the recall and did a crappy job putting the wires back into the plug in socket. Its now at the dealership getting repaired again.
Sorry to hear that, I hope they fix it right this time... My truck has been good since the last computer update.
