Something that gives the Fire Emblem nerd in me great joy is that Aegeon's artwork was drawn by Yuske Kozaki who did the artwork for Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates, and Aegeon is in the same exact pose as in Chrom's art in Awakening.
This hurts my soul, Aegaeon is my husband and probably my favorite Blade in the game. It's a double edged sword because I'm sad that you shaded my boy but I'm also extremely happy that you still gave him a spotlight. I am that one person that this video is for.
Going from probably my favourite Katana to one of my least favourites. Even then, I still really like Aegaeon. His big flaw is that he should never be in the default slot under any circumstances, bit otherwise he's pretty fun to use with his high evasion and damn fine level 1. I actually genuinely think his design is pretty cool, though I understand why that's the minority opinion. I will say, he much benefitted from TTGC's battle system, and works much better as a tank there. Hell, he's probably my most used character in Torna.
I'm wondering why Aegaeon didn't get his own weapon. Mythra, Roc, Catalyst, Dromarch (for a rare blade pre-DLC), Bridgid, all 3 Poppi forms and Pandoria all got unique weapon types. Why did Aegaeon get stuck with a common weapon type? Of course, his skills and damage still need to be better to get him to work more effectively, but they could've at least made it so that the Driver Arts would be where he shines, with abilities that would've been exclusive to him. There are so many possibilities, but they just gave him a katana.... Shame.
because he's effectively a story blade for morag. like wulfric or herald. he's not one of the main characters "main weapons". which all have a unique weapon.
Exactly, imagine if he had a sword and shield, or perhaps something like a regal claymore (A more realistically proportioned one, so he doesn’t step on the toes of Pandoria’s giant sword/wand thing) It also doesn’t help that he also looks just a bit too similar to generic non-rare blades, big A is a bunch of wasted potential - Shame indeed
It's such a cool thing that you can just keep playing this game with all different Blade/Driver setups. It's such an improvement over the first Xenoblade with only 7 party members; most fights only have just a few ways of playing them. Xenoblade 2 has an impossibly high number of viable combinations. Aegaeon may not be the best blade, but if you want to challenge yourself, or just test out an unconventional strategy, he's just as fun and unique to play as any other blade.
That's one thing I love about Xenoblade 2. In the first game, you can't really customize your party members all that much. Only 16 arts per (non-Shulk) character and you can bring 8 of them, and the characters were largely locked into what they can do. In XC2, every character has 4 arts per weapon and you can bring 3. Across 8 standard weapons, that's 32 arts per driver. If you factor in the 7 new game plus blades with unique weapons, as well as the four dlc blades with unique weapons, that's 76 arts per driver (except Tora). And that's not even counting unique blades like Brighid or Pandy. Near limitless combinations of drivers, blades, and weapons, and all of them work. Obviously some are better than others, but you can see success with every combination.
What are you on about Enel? Aegaeon is the best blade in the entirety of the Xeno series, it's not like he was an idiot and lost his prior life because he made a protective shield two metres too small- Oh wait....
Nah i blame that all on Niall. He ran OUT of the shield and there is never a reason given why. Dude was an idiot and that was the worst cutscene in the game bar none.
You talking about lack of damage but with all the survivability, meanwhile I'm on a bringer of chaos fresh game run and hype as hell to finally stop dying. I don't care if it takes me 20 minutes, just let me get past the 3 goons at the end of tantal for the love of God
I replayed torna the other day and freaked out when hugo showed up, because I thought he had a new blade and somehow no one noticed. Turns out it was aegaeon.
Me personally, I found Aegeon's design pretty cool, especially since I love water-based designs. Nice to know more of a reason why you set him in the tier you did, I mean I think you could probably build a base from Poppi stronger than him. Still, nice to know how to build him whenever I want. Also question, do you think puting him on Rex would be a better choice since Rex has a higher strength stat than Morag? I ask this because I wanted to see in that would help Aegeon's damage problem. Not by much but just a little, since he kind of needs all the damage he can get.
Ok Jokes beside. On my first Story run i was lvl 64 he realy safed my ass on the last Boss . My Team was Tora wiht all popys , morag wiht aegaeon Brigitt and finx and rex wiht Pyra nia and kora. I rememeber that rex and Tora died and morag switch to aegaeon and run to my body and doged every attack (4× Times in the battel ) . This littel snucker realy Safed my day
Let's see. That finishes off Morag's story Blades. In addition, both of Rex's, including both forms of the Aegis, as well as Nia's and Zeke's signature Blades have all been covered, along with all 3 forms of Poppi. Despite all that, I get the feeling that there's still another story Blade that hasn't been covered, but which Driver could they be on if we've already covered the signature Blades of all 5 Drivers? ;)
Aegeon was one of my least favourite blades, until my most recent (4th) play through of Xenoblade 2 where I decided to actually give him a go, and for some reason fell in love with him
the thing I dislike the most about Aegaeon is he is a water blade and there are already 2 other walter blades got through story witch counting him is tied with fire (counting qt) as the most common element for story blades.
Thanks for the video Enel! Aegaon is my favourite blade... said no one ever. I feel like you could just bunch up all the same weapon classes a make a video for each, but hey, it's up to you. There aren't much playstyle differences between weapon classes except stuff like battle skills, element and aux cores. It could save you the trouble of repeating the same thing over and over again. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the videos are bad, the quality is top notch! I'm just concerned thinking about you sitting down and making *individual* videos about blades like finch and electra ugggh. Nevertheless, I'll be looking forward to each and everyone of these videos!!
I have a question Mr. Enel, in your videos you typically use common blades along with the showcased blade, I assume it's to maximize the power of the showcased blade, but in regular play, is it optimal to have 2 common blades along with a rare, or do you just do it for showcases?
I've always though Aegaeon looked like a Common blade... and he even performs like one Edit: actually, that's not fair. Common blades deserve more than to be compared to that.
I know you mentioned block rate briefly in the video, but this is one of the things I've never been able to find exactly details on is how block rate actually works. I take it that blocking doesn't annul all damage, since that's what ultimate shield gives a chance to do. so block rate reduces damage, but by how much? does it reduce them by the blade's physical and ether defense values? or does it reduce it by a different value and the physical and ether defense apply to all damage regardless? is there anything else that block does besides this, like interrupts enemies? ...yeah, there's a lot I'm not quite understanding there, which I haven't been able to find concrete answers for, at least in the places I've looked at. There probably are answers somewhere, but I haven't found them yet. Would you have any insight on this? Maybe you could make a video sometime about how block, or even the weapon and damage stats actually work, and their impact in combat, or something? I'd be interested, since I've tried to find this info a bit, but couldn't find it. But anyway, I'm enjoying these videos. it's interesting to see how people optimize things, even if I'm not necessarily that good at actually doing that myself.
@@EnelXC ah, that makes so much sense. I'm kind of surprised that I couldn't find that anywhere. (if it's actually just in the game's own tutorials, then I'm going to feel really dumb.)
I feel like they sacrificed story-relevant water blades to their classes, and it shows. I'd have dropped Enlightenment for a strong damage skill (idk, an unconditional buff to damage?) That would balance Aegeon, but be OP on an actual attack class blade (e.g. just a flat, unconditional 300% damage + 50% crit damage when the skill is maxed, but make the requirements to unlock the skill super niche and super challenging.) OR, I would award evasion with damage (like Brigid), but make a smaller percentage increase per evade and a bigger damage total (so something like 12% damage till 300% total when the skill is maxed out) Like, there's ways to work damage to a niche, reward blades for doing their job. As a comment on the Theory video said, they took a look at the original roster, then made the DLC blades more cohesive versions of that roster. Anyway, how do you think Aegeon would be if he had either of this skills?
I think it may be a reference to the hecatoncheires coincidentally his English name “Aegaeon” could also be a reference one of them, they were monstrous giants with 50 heads and 100 hands, they were the brothers of the Greek titans (e.g. Cronus and Rhea) and helped Zeus overthrow their siblings from power
I agree that his design and gameplay are boring. I would change Enlightenment to give a 20% boost to evasion. Like Water also give a 35% damage boost for 10 seconds after evading. Serene Heart will also increase aggro gained after evading.
Aegaeon is that blade that really wishes he has a actual affinity attack boost or just a attack boost cause he’s a lot of fun imo Yeah he’s bland but he’s fun as hell for me
Corvin isn't really a Katana class blade, he's his own thing and I'm not sure its fair to compare the two since Corvin is a very OP added blade. As for damage, well, I don't think stretching out a fight is a big deal in this game, and even if Aegaeon isn't drawing aggro, his survivability would let him stay up for a long time, so even if you're the only driver standing, you can't really get hit
But is Rex or Morag better at using Aegaeon? Because Dromarch, Brighid, and Pandoria are all better off being used by their normal driver than Rex, and I wanted to see if that trend continues with Aegaeon.
of all the blade in Xenoblade 2 Aegaeon is definitely one of them
Well he really does exist
TARDISES “plot relevant”
Bit of a stretch
@@TARDISES Nia too. XD
Corvin too
You're not giving him enough credit, he's in the above-average range, but _definetely_ not outstanding.

I like his design, like a normal type legendary in pokemon
I personally liked Aegaeon in the DLC versus XC2. As it felt like he had more of a role in the story as opposed to when Mòrag bonds with him.
Nice review of this common Blade!
Oh, it's Aegaeon....

True that! 😂😂
I use him with Godfrey on Morag and turn on japanese voice to satisfy my gundam fantasies

At least he's Hugo's second best blade.
In short: Aegaeon suffers from shield hammer syndrome.
My god, he's finally doing his first cute girl blade!
How dare you forget about wolfric
Corvin was one of the first Blades he covered?

For all that evasion, it sure didn’t help two of his drivers...
But I still love him for some reason
Both of them got hit by the 3% min hit rate, poor Aegaeon :c
How to use **blade less cool than Brighid**
Aegaeon was really robbed of a unique LV4 Special...
Tora really loves using Aegaeon. Sadly Morag never see light of day that much when Tora around meh heh heh.

Really wish he got his own version of War Pyre
I like how Fiora was stealing Aegeon's spotlight in the starting portion of the video.
Finally my boy Aegaeon by far the best blade in the game!
I just got to level 99 today and now I will be watching some of these guides to make my blades stacked.
I remember cheesing Ophion with Aegeon back before the DLC released, honestly that was the only time he was ever really useful
Bridghid cheeses harder. More addictive damage.
Love to still see the xenoblade 2 content. Would like to see an Agate guide as well

Oh man all this awesome content from you is always amazing Enel, makes me very happy ^.^
But remember in Torna the Golden Country, he has a hidden advantage: All the female characters flirt with him.
I always thought Aegeon was the father of all common blades.

Aegaeon is the king of the common blades
During my first playthrough of XBC2, I forgot I got him and thought he was a common blade because I was bad at the game back then
When I first got ageon I was like woah so cool he gets a katana! Then I actually used him
I play Aegeon for the glory of Mor Ardain. No other reason.
It's sad because I got a water Katana on Morag which just invalidates Aegeon. It had the Orb skill.
Ageon might not be the best in this game but he carried me through Torna 😂
Aegaeon: Most expressive
Cool. (Waits for the next waifu.)
There is only one story blade left right, Catalyst with high block rate can make Rex real bulky especially with her self healing abilities
Awesome content Enel.
Ah Aegeon, i mean you could use him if you have no good Katana’s on Morag, also combos into Brighid who’s a better blade... Thanks for the guide Enel!
The sad part is brighid is better than him in pretty much every way.
Dang Enel, tell us how you really feel :^)
I forgot Aegeon existed simply because his design just looks like a top tier common blade.
That and hes not a cute tsundere Ice girl katana weilder.
