● During the 2024 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, we got the chance to film the first rolling version of the Alpine Alpenglow prototype concept (named Hy4). The car is currently fitted with a 4-cylinder turbo development engine, a working phase before the presentation of an all-new V6 engine specifically designed to be powered by hydrogen, developed entirely by Alpine. In this video you'll get the chance to hear the Hy4 engine starting up, giving a few revs and driving on the road as well. I personally think the car sounds amazing, especially considering its a 4 cylinder. I can't wait to hear what the upcoming V6 engine will sound like!

No, it won't. Considering that EV is dominating every motorsport it enters, sells at a higher rate than ICE, and is quickly overtaking all the features of ICE from range, price, reliability, safety, and more. Hydrogen ICE is nothing more than a gimmick atm.

EV is unreliable, not sustainable, zero range, zero power, zero weight reduction overconsuming peace of pollution garbage, throwaway boring appliance.
Every major study can confirm that, especially from Toyota, Porsche and others claiming they never gave up ICE. Porshe and Toyota already have clean sustanble fuel for ICE cars, for example WRC runs on Synthetic fuels made by Porshe. A true zero emissions.
EV is an revived echo from the past, a dinosaur from 1775, when first ICE car was in 1910's production lane

Imagine the Alpine makin it to production! Considerin cars like the Nio EP9 created interest amongst the super wealthy, a short run of 10-15 cars would've really upped Alpine's stand in the game.
Hypercar EVs apparently aren't selling. So cars like the Nevera and the Battista, etc. just aren't being bought. It's understandable; why wouldn't they just buy something that can perform almost as well in a straight line, but also sounds phenomenal and doesn't weight as much as a small planet?
I don't see EVs invading the supercar space like people expect. Supercars perform a different function to normal cars, and the way they sound is a crucial part of that function.

Toyota is selling a lot of hydrogen cars, and the stations are popping up everywhere. Seems like it's an ideal consumer product now that just needs to get more efficient. It's currently about the same price-per-mile as petroleum fuel.

@@evolicious those are fuel cells that Toyota is making. They are developing hydrogen combustion engines though. And those stations are not everywhere there’s only like 57 in the US and 56 of them are in California. Last I checked at least

Alpine was a little car manufacturer founded in 1955 and based on Renault chassis and engines, because of its huge sucess in racing (in Rally mainly and at Le Mans) Renault bought Alpine during 70's

Would love to see them test their claim that this can do 62 miles (100km) of track driving before it needs refilled. Toyota only managed 65km with a similarly sized (150 L) tank. From a pure physics standpoint, hydrogen combustion just isn't commercially viable, unless people like the idea of sacrificing most of the interior space in their vehicles to fit massive tanks that will give them a similar driving range as a gasoline vehicle. And paying substantially more for every fill.
Hopefully it doesn't weigh 2-3 tones, like Hyundai N vision 74

It doesn't need cats, burning hydrogen produces water
Only problem is, and I don't think this gets discussed as much as it should be, is the storage. Volumetric energy density of hydrogen is terrible, be it in gas or liquid form. Any car with reasonable space and practicality can't go very far on hydrogen and vice versa. Hydrogen ICEs are about as efficient as petrol ICEs: they don't turn most of the energy into motion. Hydrogen fuel cells are better in this regard. Hydrogen storage is also more volatile than batteries at this time.
That said, if only we can create/extract hydrogen sustainably and make it as widely available, if not more than, as petrol, does this technology have a future in the mainstream.
It makes up for it by being nigh everywhere and potentially cheap to produce...its a future that im all for, especially considering Ferrari and Toyota are probably spending billions on its research

I wouldn't say sounds amazing, cuz it's a 4 cylinder (and they can't sound great). But what IS amazing is powering it with hydrogen, that's indeed amazing, cuz making a proper HICEV (and even a FCEV) is hard cuz storing hydrogen is an massive headache.

Takes 20 minutes to get into, doesn’t want to start, makes horrible banging noises when driving, and sounds like your average ricer.
Those noises you hear is a racing clutch which doesn't preform well at low speeds. And the only reason it didn't want to start was because one of the switches as off. Not to mention this is anything but rice, it uses tech from alpines F1 team which leads to great lap times.
