Abuse changes your DNA, metaphorically (and apparently literally.) Learning that you're worth loving, and realising that everyone is flawed and operating in their own (occasionally) limited and self-centered capacity, allows you to free up so much mental real estate and become who you truly are. Loving yourself and taking steps to be on the Path, is the biggest gift you can do to yourself. Support groups help you feel less alone, therapy is like a BJJ coach for your brain, and you learn skills to cope and learn you will survive whatever comes along.
As a survivor of sexual abuse + co-ercion, therapy and yoga have been a boon. Going through the horrific memories and rage/horror/sadness with a trained guide who'll show you that you can make it out, have saved me. Even when I get flashbacks, I know they're a bad storm I can ride out. Additionally, a support group is HUGE. I know I repeated this already, but shame is the biggest power used in sexual abuse; knowing you're not alone, and not having to put up a front, is lifesaving.
@@millier.206 A brilliant combination. My therapist marvels at how BJJ is so relational. We negotiate our boundaries with people who don't know, learn our limits and how to speak up for ourselves, and ideally, come away from a roll, happy
Echo made a low-key second great point around 1:32:00: he couldn’t even remember the name of the quarterback because he wasn’t being receptive to the team/effective. Let’s get an Echo outtake! People remember and respect good leaders and teammates, but want nothing to do with bad ones.
Rev Daniel Patrick once told me, "Condemnation of new information, without consideration, is ignorance and arrogance of the highest order." That's your dichotomy. I'm confident on what I know, until new information that may change my mind. Great podcast. Love it.
From 2:00 to 7:00 is why I quit with my last company, fell into a stairwell (10' fall, no handrails installed), the entire attitude and tone of awareness around the event was so immature and negligent I quit a week later. The owner of the company came for a meeting after it and demanded handrails be put up and that safety be reassessed. Nothing happened. Its the perfect example of how men and women have it too easy for too long and become complacent, or worse, their natural barbarity and immaturity is never challenged. If i wasnt already the most competent carpenter there I eventually would have been, not because i am gifted or talented or smart, but because a am diligent. They will continue to struggle for quality employees but they will never right the errors which lose them the ones they find. I will continue to use as much perceptiveness and openness as I can and will start a business in the next 3 years.
@1:14ish where you start about husband/wife: I just went through this and a 15yr relationship ended in divorce. I bettered myself and felt he was trying to drag me back down to stay "comfortable". In the end I needed to move on.
totally off the point today but you have had many guests on to talk about your deployment to Ramardi. You give just praise to the marines and other non seal units who fought with you.Have enjoyed all these great mens stories. However I am curious if you had any contact with the Devgru teams that were there at the same time or are they totally seperate from you ....cheers
Your biggest realization (28:00) basically seems like the aristotelian view of vices and virtues outlined in Nicomachean Ethics wherein virtue is described as being found on a continuum between excess and deficiency.
@ 37:00 oh my gosh JOCKOS got me crackin up. I love it. I’m sure I’m not the only one.. 41:50 little bit of BTF Tony coming out. Immediately followed @ 41:57 listen to Jocko scoff
I think the question around the 36 minute mark was more about rumors and allegations. So if someone in the office is saying he's not doing his job because I screwed up or I hurt his performance. Maybe I'm getting accused of not turning in a report on time when I actually did turn in the report on time. At least that's the way I took that question.
If Echo is the connoisseur of comfort, is Jocko the connoisseur of chill? Change of plans? No factor. Didn’t get to go on the mission? Good, more time to train... 😂
good advice from echo and jocko on the introvert topic... i find though, at some point ... the small talk becomes so banal to the point that it is meaningless that it is a waste of time. if there is no meaningful engagement behind it; if the person asking the question has no genuine care... it is just lip service. its fake. i find that if you do the things that interest you and talk about the things that interest you and to you alone the people that are also interested in these things, or have an inkling of a interest in them will gravitate to each other ... make yourself your own mental point of origin and the ones that see this will come to you.
lol Jocko. the reason wifey hates surprises is because she has to raise 4 kids and the ONLY way she can get anything done and raise them well is to plan for everything daily. therefore, surprises are unwelcomed because they are a hindrance

Jocko, thank you for answering my question re: the job/family. I can't picture doing anything else. I will stay the course. Thanks brother.
Thank you Jocko, you helped me get my life back.
Good Evening Echo.
Happy Birthday America.

I did therapy AND jiu jitsu. Therapy got me thinking better and jiu jitsu cleared the rest of the crap thoughts out of my head.

Thanks for the podcast Echo and Jocko. Keep pressing record.
This is an excellent podcast. I've been gathering ideas on how to write a leader and Jocko is a perfect example of one.
Awesome, Love Jocko psychology in the morning. Sweet.

Jocko is a genius! I always learn something.
Will we see Gen. Mattis on the podcast when his book comes out?
Dang but Echo’s arms are epic! Crazy huge. I want to lay my head on his right bicep & listen to Jocko read excerpts from the books.
What the fuck lmao 😂
1:10:50 Jocko pulls out a phucking sword lol
Love it when Jocko just picks up a massive knife out of nowhere 😂
"You control the narrative."
I was pumping my fist in the air and yelling F**k yeah!
I want this to be the next Jocko store t-shirt
Is it the same knife every podcast?.. maybe there should be a featured folder or EDC type blade for each podcast... would be cool...

I love that he's just casually sporting a Ka-bar. Well done.

Love it boys, how do you submit questions to jocko?
@1:14ish where you start about husband/wife: I just went through this and a 15yr relationship ended in divorce. I bettered myself and felt he was trying to drag me back down to stay "comfortable". In the end I needed to move on.
Happy 4th every one
Can you add subtitles for foreigner like me?
There are Auto generated English subtitles
@@jvrerae8512 In my video there isn't any one of them that button just not appear
@@khuenguyen3086 I think Jocko has to enable them
Same problem here, I understand about 60% of what they say & it's so frustrating :( Subtitles pleaaaaaaaase :)

Female jiu jitsu practitioner here. Totally agree at the end. I used to be afraid even at the supermarket. Now I hold my head up high 😂
Become a welder and never really have to talk to anyone all that much.

Exactly
I would love to see Echo being in a leadership position:) Echo: " Hey guys I told you not to eat donuts in front of Jocko. You making look weak".
Bicep curls 40 hours a week. Problem solved.
Is Echo changing? Or is it just me thinking he is getting more articulate?
Im thinking more comfortable interacting with Jocko and in knowing the large audience is listening louder... but I agree he's improved drastically.
He's definitely more articulate.
It's not "manipulation" if they told you about it and you both know what's up. Its "consideration".

I´m guessing Jocko loves his knife ;-)
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY 🇺🇸 MY 🎆FRIENDS! 🎉 THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SERVICES AND SACRIFICE
How do you apply extreme ownership of having been abused and scolded as a child by your own parents?
Shit gets real when jocko talks with a knife. Wouldn’t be surprised if echo decided to wave a 9mm pistol while talking on the next podcast
1:11:54 Crab mentality, also known as crabs in a bucket.
Where do you submit questions?
ECHOES ARMS ARE HUGE!!!
Hey, I'm an introvert! Guess I'll get even more out of this podcast.
I'm glad the question came up as well. The struggle is fucking real.
“Why 90? Did you just want to withhold the century for her?” Lmfao Jocko is a savage 💀💀😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Happy fourth dudes

Do you think Jocko brandishes the knife during regular everyday conversations too?
I like to think so.
I came here to say Echo looks jacked.
Like it a lot.
I love getting life advice from a bad dude with 2 knives.
If Echo is the connoisseur of comfort, is Jocko the connoisseur of chill? Change of plans? No factor. Didn’t get to go on the mission? Good, more time to train... 😂

Happy fourth of July....
A knife is a great explaining tool
God dammit! Every time I look back at the screen the knife keeps getting bigger.
anybody know what knife that was that jocko grabbed?
Echo clearly has forgot to press record before.
Jocko's wife seems to score high in trait conscientiousness, and low in trait openness:)
Never bring a Pen to a knife fight Echo
lol Jocko. the reason wifey hates surprises is because she has to raise 4 kids and the ONLY way she can get anything done and raise them well is to plan for everything daily. therefore, surprises are unwelcomed because they are a hindrance
Sounds like she could use some relief 😂

Jocko for political consultant 2020.
Why is echos biceps stripey? Is it a tattoo
I've been wondering about this for quite some time.
yeah, its a tattoo of muscle fibers
Jocko literally talks to echo as if echo is a toddler. At around 4:23
Why does Jocko keep waving knives in Echo's face
Strix aluco it doesn’t bother me when my bro does it. Because of the trust we have. An unfamiliar person is another story.
