we are not that sort of club anymore. we have ambition to be the best and he cannot afford to be misfiring like he is and still play for Liverpool. We all want him to succeed but he won't do that fast enough to my liking.
Whilst it's not impossible for a player to suddenly just turn into a beast, under Liverpool where it seems to happen frequently no less, we've seen him enough now, he's alright overall and works hard and VERY likeable, but those guys did not take long to get up to speed. I particularly don't mind keeping him because of how strong the team is, but he's certainly had time. We've had stints where we shoot 40-odd times and no goal, and then have it happen a handful of times in 5~8 odd games and then you'd hear people say the MFS trio cant finish - I recall it feeling like a curse during covid season on-top of our mountain pile of curses that season already - but these are what they always were, odd stints. Nunez technical ability has been consistently inconsistent since we got him. As much as I love the guy I think his ceiling is not that high as we had originally hoped. Happy to be proven wrong, but I don't think it's likely.
But they are two very different types of players. Raphinha showed glimpses of world class before. Darwin will probably always be this level. No preciscion or composure. No technical ability. Yeah he runs alot, but that's something a sunday league striker could do for free. Nuñez was way to expensive
@@OgbetaEloghosaDavid Yeah, but last time he showed a glimpse was the chip goal against Brentford I think. I have lost all hope in him, he is probably the most frustrating player in the world for me
people forget what kind of garbage used to play up front for us merely 10 years ago. He‘ll never be the goalscorer Fans expected him to be. But he‘s an asset. The team is winning with him, not despite him. he’s contributing in many ways.
Seems disrespectful? Liverpool no.9 is usually one of our better positions in the last 15 odd years, literally a position we've gotten carried from frequently when we were overall shite. Whilst we had shit forwards at the same time as we had good forwards (e.g. Andy Carroll and Suarez) that's basically a situation every single team has going for them basically at all times, feel like it's only really a point if we actually had a complete garbage frontline for these periods - and we didn't. Yeah maybe if you go back like 20 years when we had the likes of Cissé stinking up the pitch but christ we had Torres 2007-11, Luis Suarez 2011-14, Studge 2013~ onwards who was a baller when he was fit and Firmino was in the team come 2015. Not to mention Couts was essentially a shadow striker. Liverpool have often always been a team with a nasty bite you had to watch out for, and often always been privileged for their attacking identity for years and years now, even when we were shite, easily starting from Torres, and that starts 17 years ago. Yeah we had wank players in those positions like Benteke (funny enough, Nunez has a similar ratio to Benteke) but we always had a player heavily strapped in plot armor in no. 9 position, or like Coutinho to save our arses. You may rationalise that with the fact it's actually okay because our team is so strong - and it is, we're smashing the league (though the other usual top teams feel for sure weakened overall this season, city especially) so it's more okay to have a low output striker than ever, but imo it still goes without saying we're gonna need more reliability options in this position down the line, and ideally sooner than later. That doesn't mean getting rid of Nunez, as we both agree he is still a hardworking player whose okay to do a lot of dirty work and running about, but the option is vital, can't just rely on Mo. What the fuck would we do without Salah? that's when these types of problems are much more severe, we'd surely be fucked. Diaz is our next highest goalscorer and if he doubled his goal count he still has less than Salah's. What disturbs me (because how can anyone be this good??) is that Salah is also leading the prem with assists at 11 rn, so when you think about it we are once again being carried by a single forward in terms of output. Options, options, options. We need them. I like Nunez, would feel disappointed if we got rid of him so don't get me wrong, whilst I think he wont live up to his expectations at this point (and don't think he's a detriment either, he is still a contributor before that) we do need a strong no.9 who has more consistency in netting the goal, or has enough Firmino-like qualities to make up for it, and he does in shades - but he's not close to Firmino peak.
Yeah, I agree with you ..Nunez had 2 seasons to prove his pricetag and justify our expectations. He's been a massive flop so far but there is few good aspects of his game on the other hand. I see him making good runs, creating spaces for Gakpo,Salah or Diaz. Also Nunez workrate is undoubtedly incredible but being LFC number 9 , you have to score consistently.
I have a lot of patience , but this guy ain't gonna cut it , given luiz diaz plays so much better than him in number 9 position , he either has to up his game before january or he's gone
No one creates for him the players create for Salah only, Diaz creates for himself since his LW and it's hard to create a goal for yourself if you a CF
they should try put nunez in different positions he could be more cm or cam then st because he runs back and forth box to box it might not work but its always good to do
He's becoming a modern day Emile Heskey - kind of. He's not the powerful target man like Emile, but he does a lot running and stretching of defences so others can get the goals in the same way Heskey would hold up the ball, and head the ball on for Owen to run through. A selfless role that makes him open to ridicule due to lack of output, but like MO loved playing with Heskey acknowledging it improved his game i think Mo and Diaz get similar benefit from Darwin. Whether its enough i dont know, nothing would surprise me with Darwin whether that be a step down to a smaller European team or him start thumping goals in on the regular.
Liverpools current play style does not highlight his skill set. He should be played against teams that play attacking football. Against teams that park the bus, he struggles to make an impact.
Yeah sure, but maybe it's time for him to move on,because at the moment,Liverpool needs goals scored for the club to compete for premier league and champion league@@FutbolHistoria88
I would rather have him on the team than Liverpool selling him. I think his best position is left wing but there is already too much competition there from Diaz and Gakpo.
He's on his third year, he's always hard working but he's just not a natural goal scorer, maybe they can convert him to a winger and we can use Diaz as a striker instead. However Nunez still gets caught offside more than any other player in the PL.
I don’t agree that he missed easy chances the problem is he is out of the system delay passes , bad first touch, rigid body and doesn’t create spaces for himself
