Johnny Barnes, he was the spitting image of my late brother, Rest In Peace and in paradise Jimmy, love you bro! Both born in Jamaica and both came to England and left their mark on all who had the pleasure ❤ as a life long Liverpool fan, born here in London and as said of Jamaican heritage it gave both me and other members of the black community especially those of Jamaican, Caribbean heritage immerse pride to have John Barnes represent us with strength and dignity, thank you John ✊🏾👊🏾🙏🏾👏🏾

Absolutely!💯. He’s a pioneer and a trailblazer for Jamaica & England. I had the privilege of watching him play for Liverpool V Wimbledon when I was 10yrs old, his balance, vision and that left foot was magical to witness. Class person too👌🏾

What a player 👏 and an absolute gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago during half time of a game v Birmingham, one of a kind imagine what he would be worth in todays crazy transfers

Lucky you! Great point re what his transfer worth would be in today’s climate…One thing would be for sure, whatever his market value he’d LITERALLY be worth it, not like many inflated fees today for mediocrity.

I was a kid in 80s and 90s seen the racism, Barnes got booed by whole stadium in 93ish even the commentator was embarresed , I support Brazil and always want England to fail in cups because most fans do not see black players as English

Sorry, but this profile of the great John Barnes is lacklustre to say the least, because the impact he made on the old First Division (before the EPL) was monumental.
For 5 seasons he was considered one of the best players (top ten) in top flight English football, then when he signed for Liverpool (age 22), everyone quickly came to the realisation that he was in fact one of the best players (top three) in the world.
English football fans came to the stark realisation that the English (old) First Division had never seen anyone with John Barnes combination of strength, speed, skill, poise and balance once he started to show what he could do at a big club.
With better players around him, he played better, much better, and his impact was like a nuclear explosion right out of the gate. It was as if the English Football League had been gifted the great Pele in his prime because it truly was like watching a man among boys. And the fact that he was not some high-profile summer signing from aboard new to the English league just added to everyone's surprise.
Players who had competed against him for 5 seasons at Watford suddenly could not get anywhere near him at Liverpool. He was now beating players, setting up goals, and scoring goals with consummate ease, almost in a way that did not seem to make sense.
When I reflect back to the start of the 87/88 season, I like all football supporters back then could not help wondering what the hell had happened... "How did he go from being very good but playable to totally amazing and unplayable seemingly overnight????..."
If I am honest, I had to stop watching this video after 3 minutes because it was so boring. Your failure to capture anything like the excitement John Barnes had on the football world in the late 80s and early 90s needs to be highlighted. Either that or give up making RUclips videos.
Damien, take some advice, use an AI voice-over because your voice is somewhat underwhelming (and maybe it won't sound so wooden and so obvious that you are reading from a script).

What you on about???? Bloody AI no thanks. It is a 10 min video and not just about his skill but the racism he had and fights against

Top player but not ahead of his time.

I have to respectfully disagree that he wasn’t ahead of his time. Who was on his level in that period of time in his position please?

Ian Rush, they improved each other.

@ Ian Rush was a goal machine another Liverpool legend, they did feed off of each other perfectly.

No he did not, he scored many good goals, and the racism did not help at all
