I did this yesterday after animal's have been digging up my new plant. Ever day for 2 weeks and I've tried everything and nothing worked. Until I did this and OMG one plant it looked like they tried and failed and left the rest alone. Thank you so much. You saved me a lot of aggravation and money. Appreciate it greatly.

This is the best method so far, neat and non-chemical / traps to haul pest. TY

This is brilliant! Chipmunks have killed so many of my plants by digging up the soil in the pots and disturbing roots. I noticed them going after my newly-planted arborviate, and wonder if this would work with a plant that large, since the tree will obviously outgrow the wire? The varmints unfortunately like to go all the way up to the trunk and dig right where I stop mulching.

I'm trying this today. I just planted some pots yesterday and woke up to a complete disaster this morning. I repotted everything but I'm not sure my plants will survive the wild raccoon night.

Thank you for confirming that my idea of putting down 1" chicken wire isn't crazy. If I'm not doing battle with cabbage moths it is the chipmunks and squirrels who keep digging up and often killing my plants. I have tried everything... traps...mint and lavender.... clicking rodent repelling gizmos.... fencing.... sprays.... and now wire mesh.... it may be a little late for this year since the garden is planted but next spring I will plant through the chicken wire and see if that saves some food for me. Thanks for the video.

Squirrels were driving me mad with constant digging and killing my plants. I've tried lavender oil, vinegar and wet towels. I even bought some large rat traps but they almost took my finger off setting them. Now I find that some Stellar Jays (birds) are also culprits! I saw one dig a hole and bury a peanut (with the shell) 3-4 inches into the pot. Now I have 2 pests to get rid of. I like the idea of the metal mesh. I tried putting rags over the base of each plant but they just pushed it aside. Sheesh.
