      Spring is always a good time to plant plants. But given your location, make sure you don’t allow your plant to dry out.

    I have a bad soil and I don't wish for my flower plants to grow larger in size, they perfect how they are in the pot. Can I just keep the pot in the soil with the plant in it to avoid all the hassle of the shock? I hope yhey won't die if they are just kept in the pot.

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  Год назад +1

      Good question ……. I am confident that they would be fine if you put them in the ground as per the video instructions. But if you definitely want them to remain in the pots while put in to the ground I am confident that they will be fine, as long as there is good drainage in the bottom of the pot.
      Keep in mind though ……. The plant’s roots will find their way out of the pot, and eventually out grow the pot anyway.
      Hope this helps 😊

      A good suggestion for many plants. But please do keep in mind that some plants rely on the surface roots from which they absorb most of their nutrients.

    How big is that pot?also how will I know when to take the plant out of the pot?

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  5 месяцев назад

      From memory, I think the pot was about 8inches diameter. An indicator that a plant needs to be put in to the ground or in to a larger pot is the roots - when they become quite dense and coil around inside the pot is a good sign.
      Hope this helps 😊

    I agree I bought 6 5lb roses and even if roots didn't loop around would you still push out the roots? I didn't mess with the roots but I hope I didn't do anything wrong by not pulling out roots.

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Barry. Assuming your roses were already potted and not bare-rooted, then I would recommend leaving the roots alone ...... unless they are already heavily root bound. If you have planted them without messing with the roots, and all other conditions are suitable for your roses, then I am confident that you will be enjoying new blooms soon :)
      Happy gardening :)

    I pulled my plant from a paper plant cup into a larger plant pot . The plant was a little difficult to pull from the cup but for the most part went ahead and came out. But then there was something that looked like a green seed in the cup detached from the plant. Have I just killed the plant ?? Or is it fine at this point without it?? Please help this was my daughters cucumber she was growing from her prek, I’m hoping it can be saved 🙏🏽😬

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  Год назад +1

      When the seed germinates, the plant gets its nutrients from the seed up until the point when it has developed leaves and is growing above the ground. It is probable that what you have described is a piece of the seed that was left behind - but don't worry, it wont be being used by the plant. I am sure your plant will be fine.

    I accidentally pruned out the roots of my bleeding hearts that were in that shape/size. We moved them to another pot. How long can it take for them to show death or transplant shock starting?😭😭😭

    I must ask, I've seen a few videos contradicting each other regarding disturbing roots. Someone said to rough up the soil once removing from pot so it can grow outwards. Any reason or specific plants that some people say that? I'm a rookie gardener

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  2 года назад +1

      Great question. I always follow the follow guidelines - If the roots have become compacted and are starting to circle around the pot, I tease them out a bit - this helps to encourage the roots to move out in to the surrounding soil. If the roots are not compacted and are only just starting to show signs of expanding around the extremities of the container, then I leave them alone.
      Generally, the more compacted and bound up in the pot the roots are, the more I disturb them; and vice versa.
      I hope this helps 😁. Happy gardening 🌿🌱

    Is it okay to transplant in the evening or is day time better ? Thank you so much !!

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  4 года назад +2

      It is always best to plant when it is coolest - it helps reduce shock to the plant. I would recommend late in the afternoon and follow planting with a good water. It will then have the cool of the evening to benefit from the water without the stress of the heat of the day.
      I would love to see how it all goes if you would like to share it on our facebook group : facebook.com/groups/2429740743728143/?ref=share

      Unfortunately I have to say that it doesn't sound good. Have all the leaves fallen off? Is there any sign of new growth? how long ago did you transplant it? What climate do you live in; is it winter there and how cold?

  • @IndependenceCityMotoring

    The roots do need to be broken or loosened up because they are formed into a circular pattern from the pot and will continue to do so.

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  10 месяцев назад +3

      Actually, this is completely dependent on the nature of the root growth in the pot before you plant it and the soil texture of the soil around where it is being planted.
      If the root growth in the pot is not already quite 'bound' and circulating around the pot (like the one in the video), it is not necessary to tease out the roots, and to do so can even be harmful. If the roots are already circulating around the pot, then I would agree that it can be helpful.
      Also, one of the reasons why you should always dig the initial hole larger than the plant, is to loosen the soil texture and to help the new plants roots to penetrate in to it.
      This specific plant went on to grow in to a very health shrub that covered the wall behind it well.
