They still try to get into the yard! I find attempted holes on the outside of my fence but the screen is holding strong! Now, for that opossum that climbed over my fence, the dogs took care of that one haha at least it’s not skunks!
The other day I noticed a new hole along the fence (my dogs were hunting mice) and the fence kept them inside my yard! I did not have dogs at the time of my skunk problems, but these L-footers have continued to do the job, x2!

I've been fighting with a couple of racoons for the past weeks.. no matter what I do they dig an even bigger hole... Gonna try your method now, hoping that it will deter them for good ! Thanks for the video !!!
I’m curious as well! From stalking them in my own neighborhood they usually did not stay long in one spot unless they had babies! Raccoons are different, I wouldn’t go put my face nearby the skunk lol but this may give you an idea to start ruclips.net/video/bsMG7vseKRQ/видео.html
this is sooo awesome! thank you for making this video,my next door neighbors dogs have been making hole along my fence .one small dog got through the other day .ive been trying to work with my neighbor ,but no luck. do you think this will work with a shared fence? would the dogs be able to pull it through from the other side of the fence?
Great this video helped. Sorry to hear about the dogs. I would say if you dig down 2ft it would deter them from digging more. It would be difficult for the dogs to pull the fence. You can even put heavy rocks over the L as I did to help. Good luck I hope it works! It fixed my issue!
For dogs i would say staples would not be as good as washers and screws, predrill so you dont crack the fence. large rocks buried next to the mesh might help too.
Hi, Great video.. I have an 8' tall chain link fence behind my house and it's 75' long. I have all kinds of animals digging under it so I'm gonna try this. I can see how to attach the mesh to the chain link so that's a good start. Question, did you use 2' of mesh or 3'? The beginning of the video says to dig 2' down and 1' across. but when you start digging you say to dig about 1' Just wondering what you ended up going with? Looks like what you did would work out for me. Was gonna buy a 100' X 2' roll but if you went 3' I'll go 100' X 3' Also, after 3 years, how's it holding up?? Thanks! 😬👍
I haven’t had an animal problem since. I’ve seen some attempts of digging but nothing more. The mesh is still in place and I have gardens growing there now. I think I did 1.5 deep and out
Good question. My first thought is if the staple could easily be pulled out. Have you tested it yet? If the staple pops out, my next thought would be to add a wood runner/plank (perhaps able to secure at posts) along the bottom, where you could then attach the screen to.
Great video. Can I use any other types of wire mesh as well? Because I need to cover around 25 feet straight and the only long role of fence I could fine was chicken wire which I think are not as heavy duty as the ones you used. Thanks
Not as strong but can double up/ overlap the chicken wire reducing the hole size. This may also prevent smaller animals from getting through. I plan to use chicken wire in another location since it’s all I have also! Thanks for watching!
Any tips about how to make sure the skunk is not inside the hole? I have an entrance under my porch, either skunk or racoon... i can seal it but don't want to kill it inside!
Hi good question. When I found my raccoon ruclips.net/video/bsMG7vseKRQ/видео.html I used a flashlight and saw its eyes. I believe skunks also have reflective eyes. Not sure the space/size hole you have or if you’d want to look that closely! Can you set up a temporary night camera to catch the creature in the act?
My dogs have tried to dig and I can see through the screen now. However once they hit metal, they are deterred. No skunks in years either. Seems to work so far!
@@lauracoteDIY i moved them more side by side, thank you. im also seeing their eating the bottom of the wooden fence and its damp around that area..any ideas?
If you add a screen would they still be able to access that wood to chew? Try spraying vinegar along the bottom of the fence boards, it may deter them. Watch this, worked with raccoons ruclips.net/video/bsMG7vseKRQ/видео.html they hate strong scents
If I recall closer to 3. It was about 1.5ft down and 1.5ft out along the fence near the gate. The description example image at the beginning was deeper at 2ft and 1.5ft out. Hope that clarifies.
I’d have to watch again but no less than 3 ft. When folded in half there was approx 1.5ft fence vertical then another 1.5ft horizontal in ground. Just make sure your piece will meet those requirements 1-2ft down and 1-2ft out.
This grid is stainless steel and so far no rust (3yrs). But I assume like anything outdoors it will require replacement one day. I don’t have a rat issue since I have huskies now. If rats want in, they choose to die a miserable death!
determined they are , i wonder what they want from your yard. lots of skunks around here, no issues though. Problem here is rodents though. They keep digging under the fence from the neighbors.
@@BIKEMAN21 of course they do. Rats, voles, moles will completely destroy electrical wiring, underground sprinkler systems, fencing, trees, plants and your foundation. If they reproduce, you're screwed
My issue is horrible raccoons and cats. We had a new fence installed. Base line looked even and great fo a few days. Then the bastards ruined our entire fence line so severely digging causing soil erosion. I'm so damn pissed. So disgusting now I'm gonna have to spend more $$$$$$$ for someone to come and put a stop to this crap!!! GRRRRRR!!!!!
Hi. This is stainless steel fencing and has not rusted. I just went to take a good look and still looks the same after a few years (checked older areas I did prior as well)!
Is it digging under? Under my gate door I installed a wood plank. The animals can no longer dig under it due to the obstruction. The lfooter does not work at a gate but you can try to limit their ability to dig. Annoying I agree!
Have a raccoon hiding under your shed/deck that you want GONE? ➪ ruclips.net/video/bsMG7vseKRQ/видео.html

This is exactly what we do in the humane wildlife exclusion business! Fantastic video! Love how you note about denning animals as well!
Thank you so much!
Having the same exact problem. Thanks for the tips.. I'm about to teach mine a little lesson
Good luck!
Good job! They are relentless little things.

This is awesome. Gotta try this.
Let me know if you try!
Omg ty! My baby girl likes to dig under the fence and this might just work!!

Hey @fablopez. How did you chase away the skunks? I got one burrowed in the front of our house just last night.

I haven’t seen them around!
Great solution! Simple and inexpensive. The burrowing desert critters aren't gonna be happy.
Thanks! Good luck with those critters!
thank you great idea
Welcome 😊
Great video thank you for the progressive follow up. Excellent job!
You’re welcome! Update a year later, I found another animal effort dig the other day. It’s still holding up!

Did you try?
I got a square backyard... 80 feet of fence on both sides and 60 in the back... reckon ima have to do this tho

They are going to dig under the mesh and the mesh will move upward because it is not weighted down enough.

After a while (a few years) the hardware cloth deteriorates and rats just rip right through it. Ask me how I know! Also, chicken wire rusts out...
