I want to thank you for your willingness to share this great video. I have a 2006 Escape that sat motionless for 9 months. I took it to a local Ford Dealership to see if they could diagnose the problem I was having with my engine. They had it for a month and then told me they can't check the engine because the HV battery is no good and needs to be replaced. I asked them to recharge it and was told it can't be done. I watched your video and pushed the magic button one time and it started right up. I will not be taking my cars back to that dealership any time soon. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Thank you so much!! I have a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. The battery had died since I left something charging in the cig charger. I charged the battery, but could not get it to start. One click and nothing. But had all the lights. I went down into the inside of the drivers side to find the magic button and did after pulling off a little panel. Reset it 3 times and wah lah! My 2008 Escape sat parked in the side driveway after I bought a new car, the battery died, and even after we replaced it, the car wouldn't start. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! At first it didn't seem like pushing the button did anything, so I just left the charger hooked up to the new battery, and waited a while. Maybe it had to go through some code cycles or something? I don't have a way to check codes. Anyway, about 30 min later, I tried the button again, and when it started flashing, the car started right up. Drove it around a while, and it seems OK. I'm driving it from California to Indiana to gift it to my DGD who will be 16 in July. This was my first ever brand new car, and I have really loved it. Easy to see, easy to drive. I actually like it better than my new Outback, but we needed a lower car to get an elderly family member in and out.
Thank you so much, you're a nice young man.

Thanks for the video. I had a scan tool that didn't have any past or current or possible future maintenance indicated. The dash readout had "Brake For Safety", and the amber wrench icon. Like others, my 08 hybrid had sat for a month with cold nights down to 12 degrees. Key on, no crank. 12 volt batt was OK at 12.3 v. It turns out that I had to go through more than one of
the push-button charge cycles. Around 6:45, you said it may take maybe four times of the eight minute cycles. That was what was needed for my low traction battery. However, the car's owner manual indicated to wait the extra two minutes of the flashing LED light to allow the 12v-to-300v charging inverter to cool down between cycles before pushing the button again. With the key off, I pushed the button four times over a one hour period, and that was the secret to start my Escape. With the cold weather, I also got a "low tire" annunciator. All four tires were too low. After fluffing them up, no more problems. Thanks again for the vid.

Left our 2k8 Escape for a month to put 7k miles on our Powerboost towing/powering a trailer to see the USA. Came back and Escape wouldn't start. Put the flat battery on the Noco overnight; had accessory power but no crank. Never suspected this button (i'm sure its in the owners manual). Should be OK after a couple cycles. My 2006 Escape Hybrid has the jump start button, but does not light up when pushed and doesn't lock in place either, button just pops back out. Hooked up jumpers to recharge battery still no power light from button, tried pushing key switch in but no crank still. Im just guessing here, but I am a DIY Dodge & Mercedes Tech.
He said it's crucial that the underhood battery be fully charged - thats the only way that it has power enough to jump sufficient watts to the larger High Voltage drive battery pack.
So, is it possible your underhood (standard) 12v battery is weak - not charged ?
      That'd be my educated guess.
FWIW, a fully charged 12volt battery needs to show 12.6 or12.7 volts resting & hold firm when a load is applied.
If it dumps below 12v when load is applied, it's weak & needs recharged or replaced.
Check it's voltage static (nothing on in car at all) verify it's 12.5 v +.
Then have helper push that 'recharge the HV pack' button while you watch your voltmeter on the underhood battery.
Once the load hits it, if it falls anybit below 12v, it's weak & requires recharge or replacement.
Once done, this procedure here SHOULD work, unless car has other damage to wiring or that switch itself.
Hope this helps - God bless - David

I saw a different video posted on the 2009 Escape Hybrid and while the wire loom was still there in the back at the battery pack Ford didn’t have a way to charge the pack from the 12V so that person soldered a rear pack battery charger. hello i have a 2012 ford escape 4 cylinder (not hybrid). My father change my spark plugs about a month ago. The transmission was drained n change about 2weeks ago ( didnt know we used the wrong one until i started your videos thnx for the tip) Tranmission was leaking so he tightened it up last week and washed the engine with low pressure water hose at home. Now the car wont start we have changed the starter the battery and the ignition switch still no crank no start. Everything in the panel comes on fine no dashes. Alternator seems to be working correctly. If my father goes under the car it will crank and start with no problems. What could be the issue? Prehaps change the ignition itself, reprogram my key. I'm not sure. Btw all other fluids were changed bu Ford over 3 mons ago and the oil was changed 3 days at Ford before my dad had drained the transmission.

Had very similar sounds/action as this video but the new 12v battery I installed did not do the trick. So I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid that displays a P0A1F code and starts after pressing the hybrid jump start button but then shuts immediately off. Does that code indicate the hybrid battery is low or that there is another issue. I’m trying to decide if I should take it to the Ford dealer for a diagnosis or if I should just send it to the junk yard because the cost of replacing the hybrid battery with a remanufactured on seems to be $2-6k which is far more than what it’s worth since it has about 227k miles

Procedure worked great to start my dead 06 FEH hybrid battery. Quick question though. Using FORScan the "LOS_HV YES Limited Operating Mode Due To High Voltage Battery" is displayed. Should LOS_HV be a YES? Wondering if this is why the CVT seems to have very little power sometimes. thank you.

A couple weeks ago the battery on my 08 FEH died from leaving the key on the ON position too long while changing brake pads. I jump started it like you would any other vehicle I used a fully charged battery and jump start cables. My FEH started fine and it seems to be okay. Could I have messed something up by jump starting it like that?

HELP! I have a quick question...
I have a 2008 FEH AWD and will probably be living out of it this winter until I can land a decent job. For the past couple of nights I have left the car running all night long and set the heater to 68 degrees. The car will cycle off and on every 3-4 minutes all night. If I do this all night, every night this winter, is it going to be detrimental to the engine, batteries (12v and HV), or other systems?
Thanks for your expert opinion on this!

I tried starting my car after about two cycles and no go. I tried again after four cycles but still nothing. I can't remember it was the 5th or 6th cycle but the car started right up and hasn't given me any problems since in the last 2 months! I can't imagine how much money this saved me in repairs.

Skip the dealer and go right to a hybrid shop. The dealers don't have the hybrid charger either.

If the vehicle is taken to a "hybrid shop", what exactly will they do to fix this problem? I have the exact same issue with a 2009 and used the jump start switch to recharge the system.. surely, there must be a way to do the same on the newer escapes?

I had to push the restart button several times, but it finally cranked over. Ive noticed that the HV Battery is only at half capacity now. Will the HV Battery re-charge itself by simply driving it everyday or do I have to keep pushing the restart button to get it up to full capacity?

I have an ‘07 escape hybrid. Once a day my wrench light pops on. I can stop and restart it and the wrench goes away. When i tell it to do a system check after it checks the oil life it says service soon and the rest of the system says ok. When i bought it, the person had just changed the oil. Assuming he used synthetic oil, it only has 6k miles on the oil. I checked the oil. Level is fine and color is ok, not bad not clearish. Any ideas about the wrench light comin on? Think i’m gonna go ahead and change the oil and filter but saw this vid and figured i would ask you about it.

    One charge vs Four charges?
My 2008 FEH has the SSN alert, check engine light and wrench light.
    POA1F code.
    Says Battery Energy Control Module.
When I do the 8 minute cycle, it works like a charm as usual, but it dies again after a few weeks and I have to repeat the 8 min process again.
This makes my FEH basically unreliable.
I always do the charge with another car hooked up to my battery with jumper cables. Then I drive it around for more? Charge.
If I don’t drive it around after the charge, it won’t start the next day.
My question: Would charging it by the 8min button process 3-4 time be much more beneficial than one charge?
    And, secondary:
Is there a simple way I can I find how much the hybrid battery is charged?

We have a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid
    Symptoms:
The engine revved up super high it belched out a cloud of white smoke then the engine shut off while going uphill on the freeway. I waited 20 minutes later the car started up and is working fine since. Codes were cleared already. The car tends to rev at higher speeds while on the freeway.
    Codes:
    P0562 System Voltage Low
    P10AC Hybrid Powertrain Control Module
Do I need service? Whats going on?
    Ralph
    Thanks
