My wife had a new 2016 Sportage GT - diesel . No problems at all , very solid car. Was traded in in 2020 for exactly the same model ,new - again , no problems . Can recommend.
I've been binge watching used SUVs reviews on ReDriven channels. I really enjoy the Jim's section (mechanically what could go wrong), very important one. Awesome work ReDriven team !!
I had the exact same car as in this review. It was a company lease and I found it performed and handled really good. Can report it had no issues for the 3 years apart from the infotainment display going randomly blank a few times. I'd recommend a Sportage to anyone who was after a reliable, well appointed and economical daily although just be careful getting in and out as the roofline is angled low - I've whacked my head several times getting in.
I have a2011 kia sportage 2.4 and with 260000kls and have owned it from new all it has cost us is servicing, replacement tyres, a battery and brake pads. It does not leak oil and does not use oil between servicing. It still runs like it did when new and has no rattles
i have the same model with 235000klm. I have had the same ownership experience as you. it is the most reliable new car I have ever owned. 2011, SLI, 2.4 I’m going to run it into the ground before buying a another new car.
My partner has a 2019 GT line diesel and absolutely loves it! 70k in the first year with afew minor issues, eventually developed an odd gearbox shudder but was fixed under warranty! Fantastic car 👍
With one totally failed older car (timing chain) and one currently failing (power steering leak and increasingly worse oil leak) older car thrusting me into the ridiculous current car market over the past few months, I really appreciate this channel. It's such a good approach to this topic and so helpful, especially the "what goes wrong" segments. It's really helped me to make up my mind and avoid some total lemons, and that's even with some basic mechanical knowledge and idea of car manufacturers. My 2011 sportage daily driver has 305k miles on it so far. It has run flawlessly for the entire time. Things repaired are the a/c once, timing belt once, brakes twice, tire inflate sensors once. The front paint is chipping, so I sport a bra. I have every luxury option available, and everything still works great. The sounds system is excellent. The seats are super comfortable. The interior is super durable and still looks great. It doesn't have the most power, but it's decent. When it permanently breaks down, I will seriously shop for another one. Thanks for the video!
We own a 2019 S premium Sportage, one of the most reliable cars we've owned. Other than a brake light and the mentioned recalls, it has never missed a beat. Averages around 7.4 L/100. It's not the most powerful thing on the road, but it's not meant to be, plots along nicely and very quiet inside.
I bought a DL Platnium diesel brand new and ran flawlessly for the 5 years I owned it (140k when traded in). It returned 7.5lt per 100km on a average. Once a month it would be driven from Lysterfield to Portland Victoria and it would use 4.2 lt per 100k. I'm 197cm short and it's one of the most conformable cars I've driven with no back pain what so ever cmpared to the Comodore, Rav4 and Hilux I had as company cars and I would have to get out and stretch after an hour of driving.
Have the 2014 2L with the GDI motor. Goes slightly better than friends QL model. Oil consumption about 2L per 15,000km but keep on top of and it's fine. Have continental tyres and it rides beautifully. Steering wheel is pure driver heaven. No rattles or squeaks after 9 years. They are just easy to live with and nice to drive
I had a 2013 for 10 years until 3 weeks ago. Never had a single issue with the car. I just bought a 2020 Kia EX Premium at a fantastic price and the car is great.
I have a 2016 Diesel GT-LIne and love it. 50K kms when I bought it and 80K now. Economical, drives well and really comfortable. Taken it off road a few times on trails and around pine plantations, heaps of fun.. The Climate control has stopped working properly but still works manually for some reason. Sun roof wouldn't shut once but it think it was because of an old battery, replaced it and no issues since but it does move slowly. I noticed the battery dying as it was a bit harder to start during winter and the trip meters reset on those occasions... Infotainment has rebooted a couple of times, comes back and works, bonus..
I have owned the car for a year and a half, I bought it in storage. All maintenance is done at the agency and on time. Honestly, a great car, 2.4 engine, all-wheel drive.. Sportage is a powerful car in its class Acceleration is excellent Stability in turns is excellent The aerodynamics are very good Brakes are very good For the price, very excellent
I sold my 2016 diesel in September for a work ute and really miss that car. I put on over 200k of mostly highway kms. I often got into the high 5 l/100km fuel economy and it was the most fun I had in car since my misplaced youth driving swapped civics. The Kiama bends were a particular delight when throttling on mid corner to get the rear to come around. Only problems were early on when a the main fuel line popped off (dealer remarked the hose clamp had probably never been tightened from the factory and they even filled the tank which was a nice surprise) and then the turbo actuator failed at around ~150k. Also went through a couple of audio units under warranty and I was very happy with the dealer support. If Kia had a commercial vehicle I would likely still be driving one.
Currently waiting for my dealer who is going to replace the aircon compressor in my 2016 Sportage 2.4l petrol. That's a disappointingly short life span for an aircon compressor, but pleasing that it will be replaced under warranty. Prior to this, not a single thing had ever gone wrong in 6 and a half years, and 90,000kms. If the Kia was stolen tomorrow, I'd look for another one exactly the same.
Owned a QL Platinum GT-Line model from 2016 to 2021. /did nearky 90000km without any problems. Excellent reliable car. Only problem was a faulty park brake module replaced in about 5 minutes. KIA should be proud of this model.

Great review, I have a 2019 Gt-line diesel which I chose over a Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4 due to it being an honest car for the price point by actually featuring full faced leather seats and more soft touch plastics and a decent quality carpet that’s not like velcro and easy to vacuum which I can’t say much for many of its rivals, yes the quality might not be immediately obvious in the sportage. Now for the negatives the seats could be more comfortable, and grip you a bit too much having to hop about in the seat to get comfortable and driving position too high (I’m 176cm) as I find the headroom lacking. It’s a nice car that’s a little more exciting that rivals but I do miss my 2007 Skoda Octavia that included features you take for granted. Oh and another thing that can go wrong on these is the clear coat can tend to fail on the boot spoiler.
Hi ya , I only subscribe to three car review shows , this being one of them of course . Though while checking other ones out i found not only you scratch the hard plastics and laughing to myself thinking who would normally do that , only to find my self the other weekend while giving my Teana 350 JM a clean inside , scratching away lol. Great show mate
ARE YOU TRYING TO say, it does everything efficiently. BUT NONE superbly, That's what an every day driver needs isn't it. You have the best channel when it comes to cars. keep it up. just subbed. cheers mate
I purchased a 2020 SX+ model used for $30K a year ago logging 10k kms to current 40k kms. A nice car to drive and reliable. Easy parking as it is actually 10cm shorter than my trade - a 2017 Cerato sedan. This model has a good suite of safety features. No issues except for intermittent exhaust noise when reversing and at low revs. Would be interested if anyone else has experienced the exhaust noise. Will have it looked at service next month.
Great video and fair assessment. I own the 2020, SX Manual (2.0 litre Petrol). I bought it new. It’s been a very reliable and fun car to drive. It is no sports car. However, there is more than adequate power to do 110 km/hour on a motorway with ease. It drives very well up hills. I recommend the manual. The weak high beam is a direction problem, I think. When on high beam, the lights point upwards a little too much.
A large percentage of vehicle buyers aren't enthusiasts. When they shop for a vehicle they are more concerned about price features and warranty coverage than acceleration braking and handling. KIA fills the bill perfectly. Cheap to buy with a lot of standard equipment with a good warranty. Pretty reliable and cheap to maintain and insure. They inspire about as much passion as a new refrigerator. Just like the refrigerator that you can depend on to keep your food cold you can depend on the boring Sportage to fulfill your basic transportation needs
Own 2021 Sportage SX Purchased New..26,000 miles now and has been a great vehicle so far.Sx Turbo has all the options made.Only problem so far is with the Paint already Peeling on top of the Plastic outside Mirrors and on top of the Outside Rear window Visor.Unfortunately the paint has NO Warranty!!
I have a 2019 Si Premium petrol 2L (no sunroof & has mechanically adjustable drivers seat). I’m 187cm tall and have heaps of headroom. My wife, who is 157cm says the front passengers seat (no height adjustment) is set too low for her but is great for me. Standard Kumho tyres (225/55/18) are very average in the wet. Changed for Continental TC6’s in same size and much better now. The engine is a bit lacklustre in hilly terrain and gearbox loves to go from 6th to 4th when 5th is a better, and less frenetic option. Shifting manually by sliding t bar to the right fixes that. In the city it all works well enough. The only complaint, and it’s very specific to someone with large feet (size 13US) is there’s a piece of unpainted steel under the dash and above the brake pedal that catches on the toe of some shoes and makes braking tricky. Dealer said there was nothing they could do about it. In almost 4 years and 42,000km of ownership it has been faultless and drives the same as new with no rattles or squeaks.
I have a late 2018 1.6 T-GI GT-LineS AWD in the UK, just turned 38,500 miles/62,000 km. Great car for family life and when the rear seats are folded flat, it makes for a great hauler too. I like the more raised driving position and being the exact same height as our illustrious host of ReDriven, I fit in it easily, loads of adjustment in the seat and good for bad backs! Only gripe for driving position is, my car has the panoramic sunroof and with the driver seat in the lowest position I can feel my head brush on the A/B pillar and the roof lining. Personally I really like the looks of these (biased oppinion), especially the GT-Line(S), but the 19" rims make it pretty costly to find a set of decent all-seaon tyres. I Replaced the Continental's that came with the car for Bridgestones and looking to replace them again after ~15,000 miles. I need to replace the brake discs and pads front and rear now, think they have worn excessively due to using the adaptive cruise a lot on A-Roads in Scotland. Fuel economy for me isn't great, averaging around 26/27 MPG but we live down a relatively quick B-Road then on to a dual carriageway after which is is mainly in-town driving and all-season tyres. Sometimes my inner rally driver gets the better of me and I daringly press the Sport button for slightly sharper throttle response and holding on to gears, only to see my fuel economy drop and I switch back to boring driving mode. Looking to put a warranty claim in for the Steering Wheel leather as it seems to have worn excessively and the eHandbrake switch seems to need an awful lot of force to apply, will see what the outcome of that is. All-in-all, great car and has been fairly reliable for me in the past 18 months of ownership. This is my second Sportage and maybe once I get used to the looks of the new one, may upgrade to one in the future. Happy to help with any questions anyone might have.
I own a 2018 Kia Sportage Lx with the 2.4 OL engine l actually love 💕 my little small suv I haven't had no major issues just ahad the ignition coils and new spark plugs replaced and also a new knock sensor replaced as well.this vehicle really shouldn't be driven every day but if you don't have a second car you don't a choice but to drive it.
Hey, first of all thanks for the great review. I'm from Malaysia but I love watching these videos. They're really great and informative. Love the sarcasm too. Anyway, if possible, could you do a review on the 3rd Gen Kia Sportage SL? Just the one before the QL. I'd like to know more about them. US complaints about Kias have really soured the online perception for Kias, but anywhere else in the world seems fine, most likely due to different manufacturing locations. It'd be great for you to cover the Sportage SL too. They look great and I still see some on the road. Whatever the case, godspeed to you, mate. Have a grest day~
@@lukepasqualotto4827 that is just because a lot of people who aspire to buy them don’t actually have as much money as they think they do, so they cheap out on the engine. Then they often remove the badges to make it look like they got something decent.
I have a 2016 turbo diesel Sportage and I've been very happy with it. When I first got it a year ago I found the head rest uncomfortable compared to my previous car. It seems like Kias have the head rest pushed forward to prevent whiplash in accidents. It took a month or so to get used to it. Two irks are to do with the entertainment system. At random when you start the car it forgets if the radio was on or off and what volume was set and what station it was set to. So turns the radio on at high volume to a non-station hitting you with a loud burst of static. The other issue is it shows you an "Accept" screen along with Kia's warning to look at the road not the Android Auto / Apple Auto system while driving - every single time you start the car. Aside from that its been great with good fuel economy.
Wow! I have the same problem with my 2011 sportage. I found my always having to turn off the radio completely before shutting down the car, just so I don't get blasted when turning it back on. Pretty annoying.
My ownership experience with the Sportage was limited to a fortnight of carhire but it was like driving a box attached to some wheels by wobbly springs as in blancmange.
Guys can you please do a C-RV review! I have a 2017 C-RV IV RM Facelift, there’s a lot of videos on RUclips but no one is as honest as you guys. Cheers!
2016 turbo diesel AWD base model. Car has been flawlessly reliable & is always fun to drive. The diesel is a real gem with lots more grunt & torque than the petrol engine. Economy is fair for general running around and excellent on long trips. The only dislikes are the pathetic headlights and the really annoying nag screen at every engine start. People who think Kias are cheap and nasty are always really impressed by how the car performs.
I couldn't tell if this was going to be a review, movie/game/tv show trailer, pardoy of a car commercial at the start but it was kind of a mix of all of them and bloody funny too boot as well. This has definitely given me something to mull over in terms of recommending buying one or not too someone even though I highly recommend they watch your videos to find out for themselves. Good work on the video guys it was highly enjoyable to watch. Keep up the good work guys and look forward to next week's videos as per usual and have a good weekend 👍.
Those cup holders are arranged stupidly and you have to contort to get to them and it's hard to keep your eyes on the road when reaching for your beverage. They should be located side by side in front of the gear lever for optimal convenience
I've got the 2019 awd model and the key thing happened to me last week! What a coincidence. I wasn't even watching this video for that 😅 Otherwise it's been awesome. Drives well, good on gas, decently quick and gotta love that warranty 👌
Redriven is kinda goated. Btw I don't know how I'm viewing the video when it hasn't been uploaded yet 😂 But hey I'm not complaining. Keep up the good work guys, appreciate the consistency in uploading.
@@ReDriven Haha. I was going through the SUV playlist and saw the Kia Sportage video. I thought to myself, why was this uploaded four hours ago and has no views? Strange one to be honest 😂
@@hmatt33 Ahh, good to know! We set up videos ahead of time including placing them in the relevant playlists. Turns out it shows unlisted videos! You've received an advanced screening, congrats! Everyone else has to wait another hour.
@@paulvictor9368 No issues there, a dealer service car, and a new engine, but I traded on a Kia Sportage. Loved the cx5, very powerful, great economy, fantastic driver, but no more modern DPF diesels for me. I hope your car is reliable for you, I am sure they don't all have a sump full of diesel.😊
Kia gets a bad rap, but I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them. Mind you, here in Thailand, if you're not driving a Toyota or a Honda, you're on a scooter.
as for a lower mileage small Suv the Brilliant Honda Vezel Hr-v hybrid from 2016 to 2021 which can do 715km per 37L petrol tank approx 3.7L per 100km I've found only one decent hybrid Vezel in Brisbane for $17k and it's mileage is 125kms
Funny you say that about the headlights. I always find oncoming hilux Ute's and shortages 2 of the worst for blinding me, apparently it's for no reason in the sportage 😪
You were saying that the Sportage was good for well behaved kids and was showing how clean and tidy the car was...and I was waiting for you to show the blood letting pipes for those children who don't behave..they were camouflaged very well!
Mine is the 2016 GT model with 2.4L petrol. Overall no gremlins or issues within warranty. Outside of warranty though now it’s showing some intermittent transmission issues 😢
My daughter's Sportage 2015 engine just blew! She had it just 20 months. First signs was a complete drain of the oil after she noticed knocking sounds from the engine, I added oil and got a service. 2 months after that service, it blew with no oil in t he sump again! I was told to check the oil now and again but did not expect it to lose 5 litres in TWO Months! The thing is it did not blow smoke and there are no oil drips where she parks. Now what do we do? Kia tells me to tow it to a dealership for assessment but I know what the out come will be so far out of warranty. I'm taking to the dealership where I bought and serviced it but they will take no responsibility, a week later no news! Out of warranty and this engine, the G4NC was not one of the earlier known engines to fail but sounds like exactly the same symptoms. To repair, even with a 100k, 2nd hand engine would be around $7500! Never again will I buy a KIA!
I'm not a fan of the styling of this. They even made it worse with the 2022/2023 redesign. From a styling perspective, I'd rather have either the 2nd or 3rd generation.
I own kia sportage lx 2021 I like it a lot but there few things I don’t like 1st the headlights the low beam is low and high beam way too high. 2nd the rear blinker is located at the bottom. 3rd with the cloth seat they give me static shock when I get out of the car and touch the door.
I don't know which is best, but I do know one thing. NEVER buy a diesel Subaru XV crosstrek Manual! Total piece of Sht that has terrible seats which break and form holes easily, The center dash blocks your legs which causes cramps, and the diesel eats clutches for breakfast.
Would not consider one of these, or the previous model, because of the position of the rear indicators; they are mounted on the rear bumper, too low to be seen properly.
Another good video. I don’t think the Kia is boring. I could not find a test for Corolla, Skoda Octavia or an MGTF (particularly the 160). Can you add them to your i imagine rather long list?
Feel like this should have emphasized staying away from the 2.4 model more... The problems with it were not limited to the US like they claim and there's a lawsuit underway in Australia. Stick to the Nu MPI (2.0) and R series diesels and you're good.
These petrol engines are becoming a nightmare. Soi many people having catastrophic engine failure and high oil consumption. Don't know the % of problems but it's such a pity as they're built really well... proverbial tank. But oh those petrol engines are a time bomb... buy the diesel whatever you do. Got rid of mine and went back to Territory... at least the engines last
We bought an Escape 2019 over the Sportage. Do I regret it, nope, not with the Kia's slug of a motor (why do Kia still stick underpowered engines in their cars??? Rio is another example). The only thing I would prefer over the Escape is an extended wheel base version like the new Sportage and Tuscon offer......
Man this show is going places, kudos to the ReDriven team
Cheers Jack!

You have the best channel when it comes to cars. keep it up. just subbed. cheers mate
Love my 2022!!!!! 27 with my 2 babies, daddy enjoys a little sport mode every now and then!
I have a GT-Line, 2018, non-facelift, 2.0 CRDI 185, AWD, Auto - great car, no issues whatsoever
2016 2L petrol
Fuel pump $1500
Cat Converter $1500
In the last 2 weeks.
Hopefully it runs OK when I pick it up today.
Hi, what's the fuel consumption?
@@maryacoff1199Hi. So you don't think it will be a good idea to use for Uber?
Have a grest day~
I wish we (Europe) have cars like you in Australia
I’ve noticed that a lot of the European models of our cars have really tiny engines 🤷♂️
Brilliant show! ReDriven and Matt Watson and that's basically all you need in car world :D
I’m now 52, I’ve had XR3I’s,cosworth’s etc, I’m loving my boring but so relaxing sportage gt 👍
I have the 2021 GT line. Love it! Hasn't missed a beat!
I have a sportage, and im so happy with it. With dsg its driving so comfortable. 🥰
Incidentally Adam, if your voice was an offensive sound, you could never have racked up so many subscribers to this awesome channel
Cheers!
Have you guys considered setting up a Patreon?
You guys said you wanna spice up the show not to use voice from Mortal Combat!Flawless review!Redriven Wins!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ReDriven Thank you sir!Now round 2!Fight for next review!
Gotta see the watch collection in the next QnA vid!
How have you done this? Haha
@@ReDriven Lucky me. I wouldn't have thought unlisted videos would be able to be viewed before the scheduled upload time.
This channel is awesome.
Any chance you can do a review on a 2017 ish Subaru Outback?
Early in the vid, spied the dealership I used to work at displayed on one of the vehicles.
I swear by the 2.2 CX5 diesel. Just awesome car and power. Mazda’s service has been exceptionally excellent.
Until they go boom ! Been there, done that.😒
@@geraldeaton9722 what model was yours and did Mazda come to the party?
@@paulvictor9368 No issues there, a dealer service car, and a new engine, but I traded on a Kia Sportage.
Loved the cx5, very powerful, great economy, fantastic driver, but no more modern DPF diesels for me.
I hope your car is reliable for you, I am sure they don't all have a sump full of diesel.😊
@@geraldeaton9722 Thanks. 170K so far. Fingers crossed.
@@paulvictor9368 Pleased to hear that, I am sure they are not problematic.
Interpretive dance music gave me flashbacks of "Bloodsport" (1988) movie staring Jean Claude Van Damme.
Kia gets a bad rap, but I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them. Mind you, here in Thailand, if you're not driving a Toyota or a Honda, you're on a scooter.
Great videos!
would love to see one on a ford focus. the RS video is great, but would be good to see one of an everyday focus like Trend or Titanium.
I use one of these for a company car they’re got awfully slow and boring but good value for what they are
Nice practical family hauler, but I'm still finding SUVs a bit obnoxious. Sedans and station wagons over SUVs any day of the week.
Been waiting for this one. Thank you !
I remember the very early, first gen Sportage was absolute garbage, which shows how far Kia has come.
Love the little bloopers at the end.
I'll have to clean my one soon, yes.
as for a lower mileage small Suv the Brilliant Honda Vezel Hr-v hybrid from 2016 to 2021 which can do 715km per 37L petrol tank approx 3.7L per 100km
I've found only one decent hybrid Vezel in Brisbane for $17k and it's mileage is 125kms
I have had my 2017 GT line 1.6t for nealy a year and so far so good i love it, one thing its not that economical. 👍
My kia Sportage CRDI 2015 is now on 200 000km.
Absolutely nothing broken on it.
Funny you say that about the headlights. I always find oncoming hilux Ute's and shortages 2 of the worst for blinding me, apparently it's for no reason in the sportage 😪
"And a small pocket for hair, dust and crumbs.." ROTFL... Brilliant review!
Great video, guys! The interpretative dance is awesome 😂 Would you do the similar generation Rav4?
You guys really need an App. I would download it instantly
Guys, can you please review a BMW 3 series G20 ? Thanks so much!
You were saying that the Sportage was good for well behaved kids and was showing how clean and tidy the car was...and I was waiting for you to show the blood letting pipes for those children who don't behave..they were camouflaged very well!
Nice work as usual big respect to you all 🙏🙏🙏
Mine is the 2016 GT model with 2.4L petrol. Overall no gremlins or issues within warranty. Outside of warranty though now it’s showing some intermittent transmission issues 😢
I own a 23 Sportage and it's awesome.
Got a 2023. Love it..
Now I know Kia uses glasses for windows.... That's a strong reason I am considering buying one.
Driving the 2.0 Diesel 2019my AWD as family car..very boring and very reliable... Great performance in snowy conditions
Keep going man. You're doing a great job. You're already at 120k subs
Cheers mate!
I'm not a fan of the styling of this. They even made it worse with the 2022/2023 redesign. From a styling perspective, I'd rather have either the 2nd or 3rd generation.
Ah, here is the Sportage review! I think I will use your channel and BabyDrive channel to help me pick my next car
Would not consider one of these, or the previous model, because of the position of the rear indicators; they are mounted on the rear bumper, too low to be seen properly.
that dancer at 7:44 is bullcrap. I've watched that segment five times now and still have no idea what the text says
Adam, Nice work on your video!
Would be good to see a Hyundai Kona review…. And more of the Hyundai/Kia brand in general to dispel all the myths that they are crap.
You need to do mitsi challenger.. would be an interesting video
These petrol engines are becoming a nightmare. Soi many people having catastrophic engine failure and high oil consumption. Don't know the % of problems but it's such a pity as they're built really well... proverbial tank. But oh those petrol engines are a time bomb... buy the diesel whatever you do. Got rid of mine and went back to Territory... at least the engines last
Noticed that you reviewed the Sportage for car advice/drive aswell 😂
Hahah love the attempt to make it exciting, you guys always make me laugh!
been waiting on this one!
We bought an Escape 2019 over the Sportage. Do I regret it, nope, not with the Kia's slug of a motor (why do Kia still stick underpowered engines in their cars??? Rio is another example). The only thing I would prefer over the Escape is an extended wheel base version like the new Sportage and Tuscon offer......
love it luv it!!! new year, new and better detailed redriven vids!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😎😎✌✌✌✌✌✌🤘🤘👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 kp it up guys!!1
