Wonderful Documentary! Thank you Jazza!
Make more Mario!!!!! Or Doraleous! Or anything, really... I love you, Jon.
You gotta do an animation with your daughter again! :'D
Jazza, Thank you for this. Excellent video. I've known about you and watched you a long time, but recently I have a whole new love and appreciation for what you're doing here.
+Tinkerbellies i sincerely appreciate that, thank you
That was a really pleasant and inspiring watch!
no is not inspiring you wrong
I wish edd was still alive to be interviewed on this :( GUD VID THO)
rip edd
:'(
rip edd
Don't even remind me... ;^;
you just made me depressed :-:
wow!! Is super inspairing as hell listening to all the animators talkin about animation!!!
Table smack intensifies
I'm a animator from Brazil but I started in Newgrounds, and I have to thank you guys for inspired me, to create animations!
What did people do on the internet before facebook, youtube and reddit? For me it was all about newgrounds man. The games, the art and the animations.
This was truly a trip down memory lane, thanks for the great episode Jazza :>
Great video!!!! I remember wanting to be a flash animator in my teens, and now I watch this and think "man, I should have been one of this guys!"
So good to see so many of my favorite animators! Great vid thanks Jazza
Ah yes the day of the change to watch time from views, boy do I remember how much myself and all the other animator friends were shocked and wondering what occurred or if youtube was just glitching up as usual. And then... the system stayed. A number of said animators have since quit and moved onto other things. The monetization aspect of it is pretty much gone and sadly most people don't really support animator patreons either unless they are NSFW for whatever reason (which is funny to me considering how much money letsplayers on twitch get in terms of instream donations). Still, despite this negative outlook still think youtube is a great system for getting your name out there in terms of animation as well as building connections/resume. I've met countless other animators who are now my friends thanks to youtube and it's always interesting what someone is doing.
tiarawhy love you
tiarawhy o.o thankies
Such a great documentary with so many recognizable animators. It's very motivating, and just what I needed. Being a rather new channel on RUclips that's specifically for animation my brother and I know the struggle is real.
Newgrounds has been a nice part of my life, since my childhood, I've loved flash games and animations, even if I wasn't supposed to be in Newgrounds as a kid (I remember some naked ladies advertisements popping when I was 5 years old). And most of my Internet idols used to upload their projects there... Egoraptor, Stamper, Mindchamber, El Cid, Jazza, DanPaladin... Dude there were so many people I can't recall all of them, it was great, it was what I wanted to do and what I wanted to become. It's by far the thing that I'd be glad to work in, but sadly in my country you can't study digital animation in a good way, they teach you about the program and stuff but not that much the theory or artistic side of it. I'll try to become a "self-learning" animator, with the power of internet and stuff, I hope it works someday
Watch tutorials
Hey SJLemon, not sure where you're country is, I'm merely Jazza's neighbor in New Zealand and am discovering that if you get ANY tuition at all you are damn lucky. We pretty much get given an assignment and expected to figure it out. I'm constantly asking questions for things that should be a standard part of the process. Its just bullshit. If you can do it in your own time you will at least be able to pick your own topics and save yourself a ton of money. The have no more resources at an animation school than you can have at home. You can do it!!
Thank you so much for this Jazza. I mean Stampy?! Shiiiit.
love your work man !
Lub you
Wow! This is my favorite video series of yours! I've been searching for a documentary like this!
Welp, I don't comment very often (mostly because I think nobody's going to read this anyway) but this series of videos is soo good I just feel like I have to. These documentaries are so well done, so engaging, so interesting and finally so fun to watch I just can't express it... To sum up: WOW. It really is moving... Thank you for everything Jazza! Honestly, you're my idol!
+Ignacy Wawrzyniak thanks so much for your kind feedback! I really appreciate it :D
*fanboys for the next 3 hours* Jazza noticed me~
Thanks for making this Jazza! Its a great reminder that independent animation isn't forgotten.
This was so incredibly inspirational, Jazza. I take a large amount pride in being a part of this community. Thanks for the video and thanks to all those who participated in it!
being an independent animator in Singapore, its kinda "loney" here since I don't find much other Singaporeans that do this. Theres only a handful I know, but they don't really dedicated fully to it too.
its infuriating too when I know friends who took animation courses and so on, but you never really see any other animations they do other than their assigned school work and so on. Back when I came from the newgrounds era, I did alot of random animation for the fun of it, so its puzzling to me that I don't see much of this done by other Singaporeans.
maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but yeah, it be cool to see other local Singaporeans doing 2D independent animations out there.
Dude! I loved your cartoons as a kid!
Mi kid and I love everything UT/DR that you do! Greetings from Argentina
This video is so great, I personally found out and started animating thanks to Edd Gould. I've been drawing Dragon ball Z characters ever since I was 3-4 years old and I've wanted to make cartoons ever since.
Dragon Ball Z inspiration is my jam! :D
Stamper's little bit at the end has me crying because like. That perfectly captured what all of the work that everyone in this video does for me. Including you, Jazza.
Whenever new content comes out it just helps me to smile during what feels like the hardest times of my life.
8 years of anxiety and depression can do hell on the mind but your videos, their videos, be it cartoons, character challenges, game grumps, it all helps me to smile and remember I'm allowed to be happy.
I've gone on enough though. I loved this series Jazza. I will most likely be coming back to it soon. It just warmed my heart and inspired me to work on my music and my channel.
Thank you for this :)
I am working on an animation (anime) this year and I plan on publishing it early next year, your vids really inspired and helped me. Thank you Jazza! :)
Artist modro
me to!
Artist modro NEW ERAMOF ANIMATORS!!!!
ITS BEGINS
Artist modro looking forward to it :D
Hows it going?
I have a web series on youtube and its finally being recognized!
Why can't someone make a website specifically for animators to not only be seen but also to make good money from their animations?
Pretty sure it's being attempted.
Newgrounds....
TehCrayz Animation
you dont get money out of newgrounds do you?
Saph Heartstronh yeah newgrounds is broke af currently
let me know if you hear anything! RUclips seems to be the best we have, still today. I've returned to making cartoons, this time on RUclips. I was one of the original viral web animators with Radiskull & Devil Doll and shockwave.com. (Also creator of Total Distortion, You Are Dead, Spaceship Warlock)
Thank you for posting these interviews. Working on animation is probably the most inefficient time I have ever spent (I have yet to finish my first animation), but there is no getting around that animation is the only video form that I can make my story EXACTLY the way I want it. I have no problems like actors, film issues, setting issues, expenses, and so much more. It's not easy. It takes skill, a story, imagination, software, and most of all fortitude.
Loved it! It was great to see all my favorite animators together in one video series. I remember waiting for an incredibly long time watching loading bars at Newgrounds. Ah, the dial-up days. :) Watching other creative people inspires me to create. Thank you so much for showing more about the history of a medium that people all around the world enjoy. Also, with the current technology people can do any creative tasks they want. People can do it all individually. I think that's amazing!
This series has opened up and answered so many questions and thoughts I had about animation and the community behind it.
This has been a great series and it really sheds a light onto something that is essentially being reborn, and how crucial it is for more people to create.
Thank you ever so much Jazza and to everyone else who is dedicated to show people the world of story telling. I wish you all the well for the remainder of time
wicked mini series you've done Jazza, thanks a million for all your tutorials, videos and kind words. all the best in everything, you deserve it!
Egoraptor, Rubberninja, and Stamper where some of the few artists who got me into drawing and animation. After 7 years of practice, I'm now working on my own webcomic and a short animated film. Newgrounds got me into the whole art thing and I'm glad they did. Wouldn't change a thing :)
This is so polished and engaging, and I appreciate that this part, getting more into the personalities of the animators themselves, isn't censored. I know a good portion of your audience is younger, but it makes it feel more relaxed to just let them speak the way they speak, talking about what they love in their own personal spaces. I know this can't possibly have been a small or easy project to take on, but I hope to see more content like this from you in the future!
I want to thank you for taking the time to produce and share this series with us. This was very informative. These videos brought to my attention things that I wasn't aware of.
this was amazing Jazza. The segment with Stamper near the end, where he talks about life problems and using animation as a tool to overcome that hit very close to home especially. Thank you for this.
This needs more views. What a beautiful and educational film about animation
thank you very much for the opportunity to listen to so passionate people...that's what I like about you, Jazza...the passion with what you do what you do...thank you
It's amazing to see this as a kid who grew up on new grounds just as a viewer. I'm seeing all these old videos that I love and seeing the faces behind them. It's a huge nostalgia trip for me, pointing at the screen and thinking "YOU'RE THAT GUY!!!!!" I know I'm a year or so late to the party but I love this documentary. So glad I found Jazza
I'm almost in tears watching this, being an indie animator has been most of my life now and this shit was and still is extremely important to me even though working in mainstream animation has me a little jaded right right now. I feel inspired to really get back into my personal stuff to a more serious degree after watching this. I needed that.
Jazza,..wow..beautifully done and really thoughtful. . Thanks so much for putting this together. .it makes me proud to have been part of something really revolutionary
That was fucking beautiful, you and everyone in this documentary are a true inspiration Jazza.
Thank you for posting this, This is such a motivational documentary, I'm starting to dabble in 3D animation and this is just what I needed to get me to finish the one I'm currently working on! have a fucking fantastic day Jazza!
I'm an independent animator trying to grow an audience. Feel free to check out my channel.
Stamp Motion Films Sure thing dude! :) Sub for Sub?
Raku Nana
Sure man.
Stamp Motion Films Thank you! ^-^ Let's do our best!
What a beautiful video! it is so bittersweet, in one side we have this veterans telling us these great advice and experiences (Which I can relate to) but we also realize this people had to stop doing what they love because they can't live off of it. Animation is beautiful, so stressful and yet so satisfying, it is a shame that we are not able to watch more of this content on RUclips, I defenitely think crowdfunding and sponsorships are the only way we have to continue.
I've only watched like 5 mins of this and I gotta say, this FINALLY motivated me to get back into animating! thank you! I used to do stick figure stuff for like 5 years and now i will do actual cartoons. This is what I want from life and you made me realize it. I've always liked Disney, Dreamworks, Newgrounds creations and whatnot. Nothing makes me more happy than animations. they also bring out my emotional side. nothing else really does that. Thank you.
I can't get over how amazing and profound this series is, even though I've already watched it before. Thanks for making this, Jazza. It's an inspiring and beautiful showcase of storytelling, art and knowledge that I know will be able to draw people in for years to come.
hey jazza, I really enjoyed this series! thank you for finding the time to put it all together!
I'm enjoying this series very much, thank you for all the hard work you've put into this!
This whole series has been amazing Jazza! Great work. I loved getting to see all these animators I grew up with talk about independent animation, makes me want to get back into it.
Daaamn Jazza, you are so incredible~
NOTIFICATION SQUAD, WHERE YOU AT!?
When you're early and you try thinking of some original comment that will get you likes but you can't so you just comment this sh*t without even watching the video
Just because I wrote that comment you assume I didn't watch the video? Haha okay.....
I did in fact watch the video hence why I said "Daaamn Jazza, you are so incredible~". Granted the meme "Notification squad, where you at!?" isn't copyrighted by me however it's just some good fun.
Though I guess my evil master plan of gettin' dem dank likes 4 harambe didn't go so well since I only got 8 yet somehow you're salty about it. :D
SquiddlyDiddly Well i guessed that you didn't watch the video because this video is a compliation of interviews so theres nothing really incredible since Jazza almost says nothing.
The notifcation squad where ya at is a meme just to help people get likes and that's no secret, idk whats fun about it either but that's you and if you have fun commenting that why i shouldnt complain thats right,im just sick of people asking for likes, directly or indirectly.
have a good day :D
It's really fun to hear about the early days of the internet and how it affected so many things, including animation. I find it kinda sad I never had stimulation from my environment to start animating. I remember I used to say I'd love to make my drawings move, but nor my parents, nor other people in my direct environment were familiar with animation, so there was no-one to nudge me in the right direction. I had very limited access to internet and I didn't have the tools for animation until three years ago. At 23 years old I'm still at the starting point of learning about animation and the steepness of the hill scares me from time to time. I can feel jealous of 14 year olds who have more time and motivation than me and whip out amazing works. It makes me wish I had started earlier.
So much for my little rant xD I immensly enjoy the series, thank you for making this Jazza!
Thank you Jazza. As someone who's pushed animation off to the side for far too long, this is what I needed to get back into it!
This brought back so many great memories of Newgrounds back in the day, thank you Jazza! Wonderful doc!
this was really interesting to watch. As someone who's been animating for 1 year, and wish to be able to work with it I just wanted to say your tutorials gave me that push to finally explore animation and not be frightened by it.
this incredibly inspiring. after watching this im extremely motivated to keep on growing my animation channel and try to improve with each video
This is amazing Jazza thank you for getting this great community together to share their thoughts on animation and inspiring people like me to do what we love
THANK YOU for making these documentries! I've really enjoyed watching this content and I hope you can make more videos in this style.
These are my goddamn heroes. Thank you for this, Jazza!
This was so good. I knew RUclips's system has gone through some changes and really isn't always great, but I didn't know what specifically changed or how it affected creators. I'm disappointed to hear it happened that way, but I'm very glad there are still some people animating online. Hopefully RUclips can change and improve with time, or maybe there will be a more beneficial addition or change to the resources/sites for the animation community over time. Until then, I'll still look up to the wonderful animators that are still on RUclips and continue expand my knowledge with wonderful documentaries like this one! You did an awesome job with this animation documentary Jazza, I really enjoyed it, thank you!
Thanks Jazza. It was getting pretty hard to actually call myself into the animation world lately considering how hard the start was. But seeing this actually reminds me about how satisfying it is to actually see something as simple as a walk cycle be made by yourself. Seriously. Great on you dude.
Unbridled awesomeness ^_^ The documentary gives a lot of insight and invokes a lot of hopefulness for the future of independent animation. Thanks for this Jazza!
This was an excellent perspective on internet animation..'gonna to share this will all my animator pals because it needs to be seen.. awesome documentary!!
I have a playlist of Minecraft videos with 100k views made me 10x the amount of a 3 minute animation that has 1.5m views. It's a real shame because there is no real investment opportunities for us to keep doing animation, you have to purely do it because you want too or seek out funding via directly from fans.
Well, it's easier than having to go through a studio.
BruceWillakers I'm really glad you tweeted about this video, Rob. i knew about the algorithm change and how it hurt animators but i guess i never realized just how much of an effect it had. I wish you could do what you love and make what you needed from that.
How do you feel about urealms? do you wish you could do animation instead?
guys what happened in youtube?..which algorithm changed? can you please elaborate?.
I adore the fact that this wasn't just a video where people tell about their emotional experiences (that's how most youtube documentaries are), this video tells how it was and how it is now. It most certainly will help some new animators understand how they should approach this medium. Also the production quality of the video itself is sooo high, editing is on point and it's all paced wonderfully. It's so good that even people that weren't interested in internet animation are sure to like this. Thank you, Jazza.
Great to finally see this released. Newgrounds is definitely a one of a kind place that gave so many talented people a kickstart to their careers, really grateful to Tom and all the talent there that inspired me growing up. I really want to get to a pico day, fingers crossed next year.
Just wanted to say I love your drawings Jazza, I'm new to the channel and happy I subbed, God bless U bro 💕
Welcome to the channel!
Obadye hah gayyyyyyyyy
Welcome :D I promise that not everyone in the community is bad so don't be afraid to stick around
Marc S. stfu
Welcome to the community! ^^
This is a great series of videos. Good work Jazza! :) Thank you!
Waaaaaw !! Really inspirational, I think this is what I need thx Jazza
Thank you for making this, Jazza. I'm currently learning how to become an animator right now, and it's really difficult because even though I'm going to school for it, I have to teach myself most of the basics. At 27, I feel really late to the party, but I'm dedicated to this craft and want to be a part of the community.
Great video Jazza, a real trip down memory lane!
Fantastic documentary! Thanks for connecting with all these animators to get there take on the state of the medium. Really cool to hear.
This was fantastic, man! Subbed! I really hope this gets some exposure, especially regarding the current state of RUclips.
+EinsteinEMP826 Thanks so much, and thanks for subscribing!
This series of videos you're doing is very thought provoking and inspiring. My worry is that the internet is so flooded with content already that it's hard for new animators and other creators to find their footing. But I suppose there will always be an audience, like Will said.
This is so inspiring!
Just wanted to say thank you for the content (the tutorials, vlogs and now this video) they have all been fun to watch, entertaining and have inspired me to explore art!
Amazing job guys! Super motivating! Great interviews all around. Would love to see more of this.
dammit Jazza, that was beautiful. I don't think I've ever appreciated a RUclips video as much as I do this one. Seriously man, thank you.
This was most insightful, and while I knew most of the struggles from being there when Newgrounds first started and RUclips's reply girl controversy, it's so incredible to get an in-depth look into the minds of some of my favorite creators who inspired me to do what I do today.
I honestly appreciate animators and those who put the time and effort into creating magic, especially those who put their own original content aside to help others like me build my dreams up too.
If it wasn't for animators and artists my show wouldn't be the way it is now, and one day I hope the hard work they put in and I put in gets recognized by a broader audience to the point where I can make a living making people smile and have a good time.
Seriously glad this video exists.
Man. I grew up watching newgrounds since 2002. I've been on the other spectrum of flash animation with sprite/pixel work, Randy Solem with VGDC was my inspiration. This video totally motivates me and makes me feel the need to talk about the history of sprite animation before it becomes entirely lost in the past. ;(
dude watching those animations again is like a flashback to the past! the memories are flooding in. The before time, before google. during the height of newgrounds, funnyjunk , joe cartoon, ill will press .com.
Tale Tellers series is so goood! Thanks Jazza
Thank you Jazza for making this series, this was really interesting. I have heard of the RUclips's changed policies, but I didn't how and why it was so bad for animators. Also I learned a lot new things from animating and some new animators. :)
It is wonderful to see the passion for animation still resonating between every single creator that took roots from newgrounds. It is interesting to see where the paths took those same individuals after flourishing in an such a rich environment where creativity was the metric rather than the view count. rate 5/5
This whole video was a nostalgia bomb from the Newgrounds days. And this entire series was incredible! I hope to see more projects like this in the future Jazza.
Thank you for the inspirations Jazza i look forward to more content from you, i hope to share my work with you some day
You inspire me Jazza, I'm getting started in animating because of you!
this is a great documentary with an awesome message and really important for some people, congratulations and thank you for such a great work jazza
this was great Jazza. being an older guy and with all these new younger guys coming up with all this amazing content, it tells me to have more of a laser focus on what I want to create, how to create it, there will always be an audience. how well you tell your story is going to be a great part of the success. so back to the drawing board to hash out a plan.
So good and soo inspired thing to watch! I'm totally new to animation and working now on my first episode!
Thank you for who you are!
Excellent series (all three parts). Thanks so much.
Very well made series. I am very impressed. This part was rather a bit sad and introspective there in the middle. Shows us that youtube is a very instable construct. Brilliant view into a world I know very little about.
This is exactly the thing I needed to hear and see. Thank you!
Loved the series. Just the kind of push I needed to get into animation.
I'm going to try and start making some content.
Thanks Jazza!
I love this series... Thank you Jazza!
wow this is amazing. so happy this doc exists, totally made my day. thanks jazza.
Stunningly produced video. Very thought-provoking and emotional. Well done, I'll be sticking around for more!
im a little late to this video but i wanted to say thank you for helping inspire me to jump back into my art jazza. found your channel a few months ago and ever since ive been 100% pushing to do art as a living again. Your awesome.
Animation is something I've been yearning to do for years, so watching this further encourages me to get into animation. I thank you so much for this video.
This made me think on how big animation really is and it's kinda scary that not many animators like these guys don't get to have as much as Let's Players do. But I'm glad we animators have a chance in doing these kinds of things. I really love animation and wanted to do it ever since I came onto RUclips or have watched Disney movies from my childhood. I just wanna say that I'm practicing it now :)
Thank you for making this documentary. It really gave a lot of information I never knew about till now.
Great doco, gave a good explaination of what happened to all my favourite animators, and good insight into a snapshot of their lives. Such a shame there is no industry to support them when the content and quality is at such a high calibre.
Absolutely loved this video! I never knew that animation was so small a few years ago.
I'm really happy to be studying animation in college at the moment, and I'm aiming to be part of the new generation :)
This documentary series has been really really great. I'm glad this exists, it's going in my favorites
What an informative and inspiring video series. Bravo Jazza!👏
That was so fun to watch. Animation is something I've always enjoyed but never really took the time for. Perhaps one day...
Glad you've got this up. I wonder if RUclips/Google could be convinced to adjust their algorithm again knowing the effect it has; especially now that viewers are more wise to click bait.
I really love this series. Best animation motivator yet. May share this with the Animators Guild Forum! This video has to go on Newgrounds!
I love these documentaries so much Thank you Jazza!^^
