    your videos are excellent! i have been a dj for 20 years, but i've only recently decided to step up my game and learn how to scratch. that sheet is so hard! and i find even more difficult as an experienced dj, like ''what do you mean i have to practice the baby scratch? c'mon man, ive been back-cueing records my whole life'' but that's just how it is! time to leave the ego and everything i know at the door!
    Another aspect is the huge amount of bad habits i've developped everytime i've tried to scratch and un-learning is quite hard. Thanks for what you do man, it really helps! Makes it clearly explained and gives more confidence! Cheers!

    Do you plan on doing anymore videos displaying hand placement and coordination? For beginners that would be golden to practice on an entry level controller

    • @DJLiftOFF

      I need to grab an entry level controller, or really just rent one and do some videos. I can definitely do a video on this, and compare the placement on different equipment

    Thank you for your videos, they've helped me so much with my intro into the DJ world. This question has nothing to do with the video, but I wandering if you could recommend a music pool where I can get some non explicit hip hop music ? I'm using streaming apps at the moment. Thank you in advance & keep the videos coming..💯

    Great video bro!!! I have been back and forth debating on getting Rane Twelves but that price on the MKii’s. Kept seeing MK1s in great shape for half the price. Do you feel like they are still a good buy? I see you doing your thing with them.

    • @DJLiftOFF

      I’ve looked at reviews of the MKii but haven’t personally used them! They have a few additional features but to me, my MK1s are perfect honestly. If anything, I want the S11 mixer!

    What’s the best system to learn how to scratch on?

    • @DJLiftOFF
      @DJLiftOFF  2 года назад

      Anything with motorized platters, preferably 12”. So it could be vinyl, or Rane’s.
      However, with enough practice and attentiveness, you can learn on anything! Other systems just take more patience I think, at least personally.

  • @evanrandall1675

    Make sure you listen to different solo instrumentalists. I've been playing guitar and listening to Jazz for over 20 years I've been learning how to scratch and my head is full of improvisation and patterns ready to come out the only thing limiting me is the control of my hands and the record. listening to the solos of other instruments will really help you develop the idea of how to build up an improvisation and tell a story with a solo and not just scratch technique salad. By the way I'm a total beginner at DJing but I did go to college for music composition and guitar. Pretty soon it'll be flowing out naturally and channeling just like I do on the guitar.

    • @DJLiftOFF
      @DJLiftOFF  2 года назад

      Have a jazz improvisational background, you’ll literally be an incredible scratcher after you get all the fundamentals down. I come from the same background and am very rhythmic and syncopated with piano solos and think it truly helps me be a natural freestyler with scratching. Still took a long ass time to get there honestly, as far as the comfortability of scratching

    I wish Serato DJ Lite let me change the crossfader option so I could try scratching better. With the crossfader set to the default, it's hard to do those tapping tricks. I'm going to have to wait for my Rev 7 to come in before I can have Serato DJ Pro :( Nice tutorial though! Really helpful for beginners!

    Idk how much theory you're familiar with but I'm a theory nerd that has dj aspirations. Hearing your scratches before doing them is ideation, and verbalizing them is like scratch solfege. Not the melodic kind like do re me but the rhythmic kind like dit dat dah. Both are core features of jazz, which is no surprise as turntabalism has jazz in its roots

    • @DJLiftOFF
      @DJLiftOFF  2 года назад +1

      Couldn’t agree more 💯💯 I actually went to school for music production and engineering in college and took a few jazz theory courses. Theory literally started to look like math after a while aha, but I think you’re SPOT ON with it being very rhythmic versus melodic.

      @@DJLiftOFF They use them in dance clubs especially with house music,along with isolators..The problem comes in when the same features are used,overused,and because the mixer costs $2500,certain DJs THINK they are superior.So my question is,will most of a dancing crowd know it care about a difference between a $2000 mixer and one for $7500+?
