    Yo DJs!
    If you struggle to find the 1 (down beat) when listening to an acapella or song, let me know in the comment section or by liking this comment. I can make a tutorial on tips to quickly find the down beat!

      That would be extremely helpful. I mix mostly house and breakbeats and I'm having trouble getting my time on point when teasing in a vocal to transition. Great videos, just found you today. Subscribed, keep it up

    Your videos are always good and informative. You were basically teaching them how to drop on a 16th note in this lesson. (1-e-and-a-2-e-and-a)
    Great job!

    You ever think of making your own scratching course? You're a great teacher and I'd gladly pay a few hundred dollars for a complete course from you. I'm one of those DJ's who knows how to do several separate scratches, but no clue how to blend them together or make my own patterns without biting someone else's. I just don't understand how to put them all together.

      Yes, I definitely have! I want to create a scratch course and mix course honestly. I actually just recorded the intro for both courses tonight which is music structure 101 pretty much and it’ll be for free, and then following that will be the courses. I can say they will FOR SURE be released by summer. I know that’s a far ways away but I have to be honest with myself and give myself some time. I really want the courses to be as full and helpful as possible and I think I’m too much of a perfectionist at times. But long story short, yes aha.
      I’ll definitely be teaching how to combine scratches throughout various lessons. It’s like learn 3 techniques, practice combining. Learn 3 more, practice those 3, then all 6, and so on.
      Scratching should become second nature eventually but it definitely takes some repetition of basic scratch patterns and getting super comfortable with them first.

    Lift Off is dope. Great tutorials for beginners and pros. Been doing this since 2006 and still get some tips from this dude. Just yesterday took a tip from you and it worked flawlessly, so imma keep fkin with you. How I learned to scratch/mix with accapellas was, I imagined singing the acapella over the beat and mix it just like so, cuz sometimes when you're starting out beat counting can be a little distracting, but it's nothing practicing cant help. Keep up the great videos sir.

    Where/how did you learn to scratch? Did you take a course? Great video

    • @DJLiftOFF
      @DJLiftOFF  2 года назад +5

      Hey Alan. I have a strong musical background - classical piano lessons starting at 6 years old, and went on to study music production and engineering in college - I say that to say that I’ve always been pretty good with melodies (and I consider my scratching kind of like creating melodies)
      But in terms of learning - I watched countless DJ Angelo tutorials to learn the basics, was very frustrating but I kept practicing - then I started to emulate professional DJ patterns (kind of like my scratch pattern breakdowns) and I’d literally do those until I could start melodically producing my own and get comfortable free styling with them.
      I’ve never taken a course but I imagine if the lessons are really fit for a particular person, it could be really helpful.

    I see sync and keylock activated.. I find difficult to "correct" an acapella drop if I can't adjust my pitch sliders the way I need to when it comes to sync. And I can't get as many different sounds out of cuts if I have my key lock on. Especially using drags and stabs

    • @DJLiftOFF
      @DJLiftOFF  2 года назад

      Oh yeah definitely leave sync off if you think it’ll cause issues. I usually only use sync when I’m making a mix with super fast transitions but I hear what you’re saying 100%

    • @mazusub8182
      @mazusub8182 2 года назад

      If you want to get better different more accurate scratch sounds while cutting it up you have to disable the Key Lock because the softwares are pretty much translating/ emulating the specific keys of every song you play so when you scratch and cut it is hard for the software to catch up with the keys that your inputing with the super fast motion of your cuts and platter movement slowing up and down the tempo super quick so it’s kindda impossible for the software to catch up that quick and give you specific sounds to every key your throwing out at it with all this fast cuts and movements but supposedly out of all DJ software out there Serato DJ is the one that’s been working hard on a fix for this with super progressive algorithms I think while having the key lock on …and that feature is Pitch n‘ Time that they have on the software that supposedly is to minimize the latency or lag input of the song keys while scratching and cutting thus not conflicting with the final audio result of the actual key sound that’s supposed to come out while doing all of this fast movement and cuts/ scratches and having the key lock activated… since the purpose of the Key lock is and was created on Serato Scratch Live initially to lock a key of a song while speeding up and down the tempo on the pitch slider Without interfering with the voice of the singer or Melodies of the song and make them sound like Alvin the Chipmunks 🐿 😆 if it was too fast or too slow the beat of the song would be fast or slow to whatever it is but the melody and vocals would remain in a way that it wouldn’t sound too distorted or too crazy while manipulating the tempo so aggressively just because of matching songs from different BPMs and different genres of music.

    Hi brother…Why do you start counting on the 3 sometimes and on the 4 sometimes? Like at one point you started counting on the 3 and then when you actually applied the beat you started counting on the 4?… and why not start counting on the 1 though? In general?

    • @DJLiftOFF
      @DJLiftOFF  2 года назад +1

      Great question! So in some videos, I just save time by starting on the 3rd beat because the we’re focusing on dropping the song on 1 and I typically do scratch patterns and count 4 beats before the 1. But again, instead of counting 1 2 3 4, 2 2 3 4, 3 2 3 4, I just start at 3 or 4 sometimes. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if it doesn’t
