I started off watching this thinking: "The design is so simple! This is gonna be easy for him." And finished with a newfound respect for how difficult some of the simplest designs are to get right.
I love how smooth and shiny this spear came out! The new vinyl paint definitely worked well, the spear looks like actual brushed metal. Also I wanted to say thank you Odin. You reading and responding to my comments in the live stream on Monday actually helped me start my hidden blade project back up again and I’m excited to finally get back into it and finish it. You’re experiences and understanding helped me so much
Thank you! That was fun to do. I often feel like I don't show what I want to make enough, I just assume the viewer knows what I am talking about from the beginning. It felt right to add that in, in a Star Wars way.
Could we see a classic Doomguy helmet? It might have some interesting details and layering. I enjoy watching your process, no matter how many helmets you make you still keep it interesting
Man your idea of using the same type of painters parts to make interchangeable weapons makes me wonder of all sorts of possibilities. Fantastic build!!!
16:53 - This is the very reason why I watch and prefer Odin Makes over some other cosplay/prop makers that just 3D print their stuff, he makes nearly everything by hand, and with a couple of power tools, and just problem solves the harder and more detailed pieces.
This is incredibly educational for such a simple prop! Definitely going to try and use some of these techniques for an Amazon spear from Wonder Woman!! Awesome job again, Odin
I really like these starwars prop episodes, and i kinda want to see another project with resin/epoxy. I dunno, but really any project you do comes out interesting
I really really liked that idea of interchangeable spear parts! I think it could be the beginning of something long and beautiful . . . like a whole armory!

Hello! Thank you for your compliments, the effect was fun to do. I need to collect the low tool builds into a playlist. Also, I live stream every Monday on RUclips, from noon to 2pm pst- if that time works for you, maybe see you next week!
Hi I am writing to thank you for your projects, thanks to them I renew contact with my youngest son. We're exieted and want to do a WHOLE COSTPALY MANDO (at least because there are still plans for costumes for both Skywalkers (Anakin and Luke - it will look great when we both walk through Toruń). Greetings and thanks from Poland
I don't know if you've seen the use of graphite powder for a metallic look before but I think this would look awesome using that technique! Love the spear and I love the rest of your work!
I have seen the the use of graphite powder- I have not used it much yet. What I have seen it is a little darker in color than the paint I used, and is also dependent on a high gloss black undercoat. But graphite powder does work incredibly well.
I love that you explain everything that you do in a build, that way there's no questions unanswered. Also, I'm genuinely curious, what do you do for work?
I love this channel. Too many cosplay channels are seduced by the draw of expensive toys like 3d printers or overly complicated processes like casting and resin making. Meanwhile Odin is here going "I want to make this as easy for someone at home with minimal materials (and probably some catsm toys) to make" Thank you.
Hey Odin Great build. The Beskar Spear looks awesome and 100% accurate to the one used in the movie only it's made from Beskar PVC Pipe, Wooden Dowels and Foam PVC. Nice Challenge of using the rotatory tool as your only power tool. The Spear turned out great. This is the way that Odin Makes. Stay safe during the pandemic. I'm looking into making my own spear one day cause my Mandalorian cosplay is a Mandalorian that lives on the Planet Kashyyyk he is friends with the wookies and he has been on the planet for many moons. Peace.
Thanks Odin you know you're the only one out of my RUclips Heroes that replies to my comments and that makes me feels good. I've watched you since you started back when Awe.me was a thing and you were and still are my favorite builder. You've taught me so much and I just want to say thank you for being a great teacher and a great guy over all. I'll be sure to leave a comment in the next video you do. Peace Odin
Love this! Been trying to make one myself, and your idea to use a roller paint handle is just the missing piece of the puzzle! Thank you for sharing! 🥰👍👌
I made my Mando jetpack a year ago, with changable parts to take it from Jango's to Boba's and back. I only had one male screw half of a broom, so I made two female halves out of heated Worbla, then glued them into the interchangable tops! I think I'll make the top of Din's as well!
Yeah, I did flub that word/title a little, didn't I? Oh well. I enjoyed all the Harryhausen/ Sinbad movies, and I did get to see the Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger in the theaters, which is the one I was thinking of! That one had the clockwork minotaur in it. On set, the Minotaur was played by Kevin Peter Hall, who was the Predator later. For the most part, he was all stop motion by Harryhausen...
Looks good, Odin!!! #ThisIsTheWay! I like your tip for getting PVC to be more rigid at 6:32 : using something inside it to strengthen it! I used a smaller length of PVC wrapped in tape every foot or so to do just that when I made my "Rey's Staff" from Star Wars: The Force Awakens! I'm sure wood would have worked better but the PVC was good enough and didn't add much weight.
Oh nice! The wood did add a little weight, but over all the spear just has a satisfying heft to it now. It's still light enough to carry around all day.
Belt sanders are great! Grab a low cost one, if the material you are working with is softer (not steel, or oak) than a lower cost budget sander will get you going for a while. This is pretty much Adam Savage's advice, and I like it. If you are in the states, look for a Harbor Freight Tools near you. The belt on my Ryobi sander is from HFT, and the sander is actually second-hand! That is also an idea- look for a pawn shop! They have tools too.
thanks for the tutorial! i'm using it to make childe's double-ended spear thing and i'd like to ask if you could use plastidip instead of vinyl spray paint to set it?
How did you make the threads on the painters' pole? Or was that already made by the manufacturer who made the painters' pole? Speaking of threads, what tool would you recommend to make threads?
The War Glaive from Fallout 76 would be the perfect project to utilize the paint brush extenders because of the 5 difference blade mods you can change out! Those would be fun builds.

I love how excited Odin is with the modularity of these :D
"But I like making things by hand." Me exactly-I've been holding off on getting a printer for that reason!
The best thing is combining the two. My best projects were a combination of craftmanship and 3D printing... it's just GREAT!
I love how interchangeable they all are and I love the idea of using the paint roller extensions to be able to break down the spears!!

You can use a pipe cutter to cut PVC straight. The blade will cut right through the plastic and cut it straight.
I personally would have liked to see some metal used, just because in the show that spear had a cool ringing when it hit the ground.
