I make a Star Wars Darksaber with the help of Luke Andraski and Max Kirkland at Dallas Makerspace. It's an all aluminum hilt with a polycarbonate blade! This is the way.

I think to make it look a little better you could try and “score” the blade like you did with the edge of the blade to get a “lightning” effect on the blade like in the clone wars. Cause I feel like the blade is a little too clean

I hope since the Darksaber has now made appearances outside Clone Wars now, that we may be able to get an official prop

Yeah I really hope they somehow make a blade that mimics the dark saber and needs a black kyber crystal to work
I think it would work best with Vantablack, and stronger LED lights.
and a sound board of course :)

You could do it with a thin sturdy peice of cardboard, attach metal foil tape all over it, spray paint it black, and then add LED tape strips.
as soon as I saw it come out of the TIE fighter I was like "Nice, can't wait to watch Odin make that" so thank you :)

@@undeadhaiena5462 I was hoping that they were going to introduce it, or at least tease it in the Obi Wan series (which I was positive Maul was going to show up in) but maybe he will show up in Mando season 2, if Djarin somehow gets his hands on it, either way, can't wait to see what they do with it.
@@czaetc.8743 Maul is long dead by the time of the Mandalorian... However, in Djarin's flashback to when the Mandalorians rescued him as a child, the Death Watch symbol can be seen on the shoulder pauldrons of the Mandos. Meaning that Djarin may be a member of Death Watch, and possibly the heir to the Darksaber...
Odin’s smile when he first turned on the sabre looked like pure nerd happiness.
That looks SWEET!!!! Good call on the milled hilt... haven’t seen anyone do that yet

Just theoretically:
Paint it in something like Vantablack (no flashing reflection)
Use a translucent difusor sheet so the individual LEDs don't show that much.
Far as I know, Vantablack can be toxic if not used properly. Also it's copyrighted by Anish Kapoor.
Next best thing would be Black 2.0. Nearly as dark, but works exactly like any other paint, can't be copyrighted, plus I believe it's cheaper too.

It's not even a paint, it's a touch sensitive coating that would never work for a prop. That's why I said "like" could have been more precise with "similar too" though.

Matt Flatt yes but I have seen a few where they try to include that detail, but without it being animated it looks a little odd in my opinion of course that is ultimately left to preference.
I can't wait to see the one you make have that effect!
