Odin Makes hey Odin another prop you should make with the same materials you used for this build are Jedi and Sith holocrons. Plus since you have a 3D printer you can print the patterns then paint and glue them onto the piece of acrylic under.
Sage Robledo which way do you want him to build it 3D print, acrylic tubes, paint, and lights or with form tubes, acrylic tubes, foam, plastidip, paint, and lights to indicate it’s getting filled up? Either way I’d also like to see him make one.
I also thought odin made the loki scepter. A simple search revealed it was man at arms who made the scepter a while back. I had even liked the video. My memory must have been jumbled up.
I made my own tesseract as well. I painted it with glow in the dark translucent sand, and blue pigment powder, with a swirling pattern. Then I cut neat little holes in it for USB attachments, so not only can I use some really bright USB powered lights, but the USB hub I used has three extra places I can charge my phone or whatever... (haha I have a functioning tesseract) The USB lights are also remote controlled, so I don't even have to open my tesseract at all to get into it. So it glows in the dark when it's not on, charges my phone, and I can change the colors of the lights with a button on a remote.
I made one of these a few years ago. Had used a softball case, with a black bottom base. I took 80 blue LEDs & wired them up in groups of 16 & had them facing inward. I had lined the inside with white foam. The effect was awesome. I will try out adding the Illusion Film for better effect. I power it with 3 AA batteries that are open in the bottom. My next version will be inside the holder from the end of Avengers when Thor & Loki go back to Assgard. I will try to make that one w/o the black bottom.
Possible he was referring to the stone from inside the tesseract. In which case he could be alluding to either the infinity gauntlet, or the Iron Man infinity gauntlet
I'm guessing the suitcase. In Avengers Assemble (that's what the movie is officially called now apparently) the suitcase lights when Nick Fury puts the cube in.
I’ve made one of these before. I like the outer material you used, but to diffuse the light I frosted the cube lightly and used wax paper, very roughly crumpled, and then stuffed into the cube. It gave it a really cool “electric” effect the way the light broke against the wrinkles in the wax paper.
A couple of thoughts, 1) get 2 cubes, cut one down and sandwich your film between them for safe glueing. 2) put a small cube in the center and attach the lights to it for light on all sides. 3) flicker bulbs would be way cool.
When I got the notification of this, I made sure that I got all my affairs taken care of for the day so that I can sit back, relax, watch and learn. :0)
I did mine a similar way, but I used frosted glass spray paint on the outside, and filled it with crumpled wax paper and blue LED Christmas lights, with their own battery pack. Everything's internal, and it's bright enough.
Built this not too long ago as well with a photo cube, frosted spray paint, and a remote control light puck from Five Below. That way it’s remote controlled and can be multiple colors.
@odinmakes You talked about the plastic scribing tool, I have a life changing tip for you. Turn your snap-off knife around. The back end / spine of the blade works PERFECTLY as a scribe! It makes nice curly chips as you make passes too! Leaves a decent surface finish if you manage to stay mostly 90 degrees! It works with 9mm blades, but I prefer doing it with an 18mm as it's more stiff, the 18mm OLFA blades seem to have the perfect spine thickness and angle of the 'snap' to cut through plastic like butter! I use it mostly for styrene and lexan, but I've used it on acrylic and it is FAST!
@Odin Makes, an idea for you, an acrylic straw , where the cord hole is and use one of those ball looking LEDs mainly used for garden lights, they use those LED strip light things, if you couldn't find that ball light (super tiny disco ball) the light would be brighter and almost 360° inside , just a thought .
@@OdinMakes Thanks! I've been a fan since DIY Prop Shop. I'm a really small channel, so making youtube videos is just a hobby for me. Its something I've wanted to do for years, so I look at other channels for inspiration and how to structure my videos.
If you have not in your hand at the time special tools for scoring plexiglass you can score it with back side of new boxcutter blade. It has small indent on first segment. So you can use it like this special scriber =)
Very cool looking prop, and so simple in the end. Like it, might have to make one now :P I got a tip, if you want a "permanent" power source, those lights (it was in mine anyway) run on 6 volts, so you can run them on a standard USB charger that puts out 5 volts. I tried this my self on an old flashlight that look just like yours, of cause be sure these voltages are correct before you try it. This way you can have it plugged into a wall socket, or if you want it more mobile, a power bank.
Just a thought, Ive made a set of illuminated floor/ door kickers for my SUV using EL Panels. They are cheap and easy to power up, I think they would give all round constant light inside your tesseract. If thats any good, let me know.
Would blue fluff or filler be better for the light displacement? Or a blue LED? Looks great but you can definitely tell it's a white led light behind blue transparent plastic.
Maybe use the wireless charging used for some cellphones to charge batteries stored inside next time. You can usually find some on amazon. That way, you can have a nice stand that doubles as a charging station for it.
I would of done the powering of the tesseract a little different using Inductive charging, this would make it lighter and add a bit of a magic trick when at a con.

Belongs in something, you say? Is that the Shield containment suitcase used by Nick Fury, perhaps? Or the containment case from Endgame?
Possible he was referring to the stone from inside the tesseract. In which case he could be alluding to either the infinity gauntlet, or the Iron Man infinity gauntlet

i love learning about new materials from this show.
another way to do it is use an led tap light and paint the cube with blue and white paint swirled together. I hope this helps anyone :)
