I made my own tesseract as well. I painted it with glow in the dark translucent sand, and blue pigment powder, with a swirling pattern. Then I cut neat little holes in it for USB attachments, so not only can I use some really bright USB powered lights, but the USB hub I used has three extra places I can charge my phone or whatever... (haha I have a functioning tesseract) The USB lights are also remote controlled, so I don't even have to open my tesseract at all to get into it. So it glows in the dark when it's not on, charges my phone, and I can change the colors of the lights with a button on a remote.

I made one of these a few years ago. Had used a softball case, with a black bottom base. I took 80 blue LEDs & wired them up in groups of 16 & had them facing inward. I had lined the inside with white foam. The effect was awesome. I will try out adding the Illusion Film for better effect. I power it with 3 AA batteries that are open in the bottom. My next version will be inside the holder from the end of Avengers when Thor & Loki go back to Assgard. I will try to make that one w/o the black bottom.

    • @chrisclark9257

I’ve made one of these before. I like the outer material you used, but to diffuse the light I frosted the cube lightly and used wax paper, very roughly crumpled, and then stuffed into the cube. It gave it a really cool “electric” effect the way the light broke against the wrinkles in the wax paper.

@odinmakes You talked about the plastic scribing tool, I have a life changing tip for you. Turn your snap-off knife around. The back end / spine of the blade works PERFECTLY as a scribe! It makes nice curly chips as you make passes too! Leaves a decent surface finish if you manage to stay mostly 90 degrees! It works with 9mm blades, but I prefer doing it with an 18mm as it's more stiff, the 18mm OLFA blades seem to have the perfect spine thickness and angle of the 'snap' to cut through plastic like butter! I use it mostly for styrene and lexan, but I've used it on acrylic and it is FAST!

Very cool looking prop, and so simple in the end. Like it, might have to make one now :P
I got a tip, if you want a "permanent" power source, those lights (it was in mine anyway) run on 6 volts, so you can run them on a standard USB charger that puts out 5 volts. I tried this my self on an old flashlight that look just like yours, of cause be sure these voltages are correct before you try it. This way you can have it plugged into a wall socket, or if you want it more mobile, a power bank.

Could the same method be used to make an 'Energon Cube'? One would need purple instead of blue Illusion Film (?)
