Daz 3D FaceGen Artist Pro Tutorial - Real Faces to Genesis Characters
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 июл 2024
- In this Daz3D tutorial video, we will look at the basics of using the FaceGen Artist Pro application to generate Genesis Characters. FaceGen is becoming one of the most reliable 3D Face Generator Software programs available for home studios. I am creating a Genesis 8 Male Character based on my face in this specific use case.
This is a lengthy tutorial, so chapter markers are available below.
FaceGen will work for Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3, Genesis 8, and Genesis 8.1 characters in Daz Studio. In addition, the Artist Pro version will have all the appropriate features unlocked. You won't need any paid Daz content to use this application, but it could help in the refinement process.
In general, we will need 1 to 3 passport-like photos of the subject to load into FaceGen. We will need to place markers on certain areas of the face according to the prompts of the program. After the program makes its analysis, it will generate a 3D model of the face. After making any desired adjustments, we select the parameters for exporting to Daz 3D Studio.
In Daz 3D, we load a generic Genesis character and then use the new morph from FaceGen to get the shape of the face. Then we apply the different color maps to the appropriate parts of the Genesis Character body.

Great tutorial! Amazing results - very realistic!
Glad you liked it! This has been a very helpful tool, even if I'm not going for an exact likeness.
Brilliant tutorial! Thank you so much!🎯👍😀
Thanks. Glad this was helpful. Any big plans with your Daz Characters?
Good Stuff, thanks for making the video.
Trying to make posts more consistently in 2022
Great tutorial. I appreciate it.
Glad that it was helpful.
Thank you so much 😊😊😊 it was really helpful ❤
Glad this was helpful. Pretty soon we'll have a short series of tutorials streamlining the process of creating and animating these characters, starting in FaceGen.
Excellent Tutorial
Thank you.
Thanks for this tutorial
Glad it was helpful
wow 2024 thanks 4 this information
Glad it was helpful. I believe this video touches on a newer version of the software: ruclips.net/video/7E0pzIKFZ8I/видео.html
Thanks for this video
Thanks for checking it out.
Great tutorial! :D
Thank you. I am currently working on a tutorial on how to use this for Mesh to Metahuman in Unreal Engine 5
@@W3-productions Awesome!
Just what I need.
Glad this was helpful.
Quick questions, what happens when you get to applying the surfaces and you can no longer find the browse option. What do you do
Not sure if I've encountered that before. It could be screen resolution issue. Holding the mouse to the top or bottom doesn't auto scroll?
Thank you for the video! Do you know if we can create open-mouth smiles in Facegen?
Facegen artist pro doesn't do well with smiles and open mouths. You would have to do that in Daz Studio. I'm not sure what facegen 3d print does.
Cool tutorial! How software use for the hair?
Are you asking which hair I used? Or if the plugin does hair? The software will not do hair on top of the head, just a very close shave. It will show facial hair but it is flat and usually does not look that good.
With the exception of going into photoshop, are there any other methods you may recommend to help prevent the eyelids from getting into the textures of the sclera and such?
Besides photoshop, I tend to use other Genesis character eyes since the lighting in the photographed eye tends to be static. Not much else I can suggest other than to ensure the eyes are wide open when taking pictures. Others may suggest exporting to another program like blender, modifying the UVs and reimporting, but I don't have a lot of experience with that.
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. The blender option I hadn’t considered but it’s there. The easier alternative would be to just use pre-existing eyes like you suggested, makes a lot of sense why after you did your textures you went and utilized a character to balance everything out. I haven’t really looked around Daz for eye add-ons but they may have something I’m looking for such as ones with a painted texture.
the Daz model includes facial rigging, right ? 🤔 good tutorial btw, really helpful 😊
Thanks. Yes it does. Genesis 8 (and I assume 9) characters support ARkit shapes.
Thanks @@W3-productions ... i will try it later
It is very cool. May I ask you to make my face? I tried for a long time but it doesn't work out well for me?
Most of my issues came from the quality of the picture or pictures. You really should not use selfie pics at all. I mentioned that in a later video.
ohh, i know now, because you have the full features, that's why my picture is not really my looks, i tried everything to compare, but it's not working, maybe in full features i can do my exact skin.
It's been a while since I used the demo version. It also helps to use side profile pictures as often as possible. I have also found that some of my friends faces don't come out as well as others. It could be distinctive features.
This is freaky
Soon they will be able to have a person do or say whatever they want on video and it will look real.
is the spherical eyes option usually checked by default?
It seems to fluctuate for me. Sometimes you need to see which one works for your specific character. I usually end up switching out the eyes anyways.
does it get exported with the body morph ? and i dont think the face have any morph too right ?
What facegen exports is 1 face morph and full body textures based on the color of the face texture. It does not do body morphs which is a bit awkward if the person is rather large or small.
How would you change the color of the skin tone in body with base gen 8 character? Would I have to buy another character that has a different skin tone to match first? Would it matter if the skin tone came off a female character ? I think I may have a free one lol.
The main way I change the tone is in the Surfaces Tab > Skin-Lips-Nails > Translucency Color and also adjusting the Translucency Weight. However that does not change the details. You would need a new character in Gen 8 for that. Also be aware that Gen 8.1 has 3 different skin tones in its base model.
@@W3-productions ah ok. How would I access the different skin tones menu I’m new to daz trying to make more custom characters for ue5 but not trying to buy them all. Any pointers on how to get clothing or does all that need to be purchased In bundles /packs?
@@naytbreeze This is an older video, but it should still show how to tweak the Translucency of the Shader: ruclips.net/video/As3BW0qq9b4/видео.html
My eyes are showing white when I change it to that view mode?
Which view mode? iRay? Not sure what the issue may be. I do recommend leaving the option for spherical eyes unchecked. It's caused me some other errors like parts of the eyes being black. Also I tend not to like how some of the eyes turn out from FaceGen, so I usually use eye materials from another character I already have.
The eyeballs in DAZ keep coming out distorted and warped. How do I reset the eyeballs to be round?
When you export from FaceGen, there is a checkbox for using spherical eyes. I believe I generally leave it unchecked. Either way, if one way doesn't work, change it to the other.
@@W3-productions thank you! I just tried it and it worked. The eyes did not distort. Great video, I really appreciate it.
@@miguelhuidor1494 no problem. Thanks for watching. I sometimes wonder why that setting is there. Doesn't really seem to work.
where do i get the hair?
www.daz3d.com/stylish-hair-and-beard-for-genesis-3-and-8-males
Did you manage to obtain conclusive results? I can't.
Randomly. Sometimes I will use a Genesis 8 character with similar features for the materials THEN switch over to the FaceGen textures to give more realistic results. One of my issues is that some of the people I know are sensitive about taking pictures, so they look at me sideways when I ask for pictures for "experiments". lol.
does this work on genisis 8.1?
Yes it does. I use it for that all the time
Hello, Does facegen work on a Windows Bootcamp on Mac OS with Metal ?
Thanks for watching. I am not really sure, as I don't have a lot of experience with Bootcamp. I know not every Windows program will work perfectly in that setup, but I don't know what the deciding factor is. Keep in mind that FaceGen does have a free demo. So it may be worth trying it out that way to see if it is stable.
@@W3-productions Thank you, I tested the demo and for those who wonder, It does work perfectly on virtual machine
@@jodeblend1638 That's good to hear. I will have to check out BootCamp sometime, if my MacBook can perform well enough.
can we add face mocap after doing this?
Yes, I generally do this in Blender through the Diffeomorphic Daz Importer. I have a video here that I talk about it to some degree. I plan on making an updated video soon. ruclips.net/video/arrL9EvbszU/видео.html
If you didn't want to mess with Blender, you could also use FaceMotion in Daz Studio: ruclips.net/video/hg3vgd5kM8U/видео.html
@W3-productions cool!! i think by adding deepfake onto a 3d model would make it more realistic. I suggest you to check out NAQ Montages
major problem with facegen is, it never gives you precise nose structure as of real face had. and you can do nothing about it except, remodeling the nose or sculpting it in other software.
Have you found this to be the case even when using side profile pictures? I do find that wide nose tips aren't represented very well.
@@W3-productions true. I did my best in every possible way but it cant be done.
I have moved over to other software for achieving this now. Earlier i used to rectify short comings in zbrush or blender. There is no such thing called easy way 😭 sometimes cc headshot gave good results but even that too was not enough
what other softwares can be used to correct this problem ?
how do i remove blue fg
Usually that goes away after you apply the license. For me, it went away after I bought the pro version, although it is a entirely different install than the demo version.
nee for Mac]
Unfortunately, I don't know if they have a roadmap for releasing other versions.
look like they added v 3.10
Yes. I've downloaded but not used it. They added a diagnostic report tool. A fix for markers being very close along with a few other bug fixes.
hate these tutorials where they skip entire steps....this is one i made earlier
Thanks for watching. Some people say I give too many details. Some people say I don't give enough. Not sure where the happy medium is.
I confirm, it's really crap. Luckily I didn't buy it, even if it's free I don't want it. But hey, I'm not really surprised, the guy has edge in these shortcuts...
On the other hand, some people are really good sculpters.
I have a project that I would love to work with you on. Please let me know how I can contact you.
