All of her albums are amazing obviously but Red always gives me nostalgic vibes. I didn’t even listen to it when originally came out in 2012 but the re release time period was so nostalgic with ATW10 and the general vibe. One of her best albums

when she originally put out her first 5 albums there were secret messages with the capital letters in the liner notes. for stay stay stay it was “daydreaming about real love”. that’s how we know it’s not about a specific person

last thing! make sure to listen to 'safe & sound' and 'eyes open' from the hunger games soundtrack which released its Taylors version in march and she added them to red but it isn't on the album tracklist but they have the same cover so it is apart of red going forward!
What I love about Treacherous is not only the longing & forbidden elements in the lyrics, but also how it demonstrates Taylor will take a song written about someone & incorporate new lyrics that transform the song into a piece of art about a more current muse. The og lyrics were different but the bridge was added & the song became the beautiful love song we have today

also! when you hear in the deluxe track 'the moment i knew' it's about the night of her 21st bday mentioned in 'All to Well' and when she released Red TV and when got the 10min version from the vault it made sense why '22' was put after 'all to well'!!

If you like the songs that really are just a clinic on writing then Folklore and Evermore are 100% the albums to do. Red was such a good start, you see her penmanship, pop and country all at once!

I reacted to folklore !! and when researching songs I read parts from the Long Pond Studio Session :D yes ive heard recently about the John and Taylor age gap !! she really is an incredible song writer and i'm glad she can put some of her pain into her music, but also make such fun bops too ! I particularly love your reaction to Begin Again! It so sweet and heartbreaking to think she was in a relationship with a douche who made her have to hide parts of herself or accept behavior that’s unkind.

She re recorded her vocals and the instruments, since her masters were sold to somebody else without her knowledge. From what i understand the masters are the first recording of voice and instruments.

OMG I fell in love with this reaction and had to subscribe. I've been a fan since 2008 but this album, the Red album, is what made me a full on Swiftie. It just felt like she was singing about my experiences at 20 & 21 and at the same time holding my hand and telling me about hers. I'm glad you're splitting it up because it is a very long album. I love that you're getting into Taylor, I've also been exploring her music this year and I'm so glad you chose to do Red first.
I especially enjoyed how quickly you picked up on the theme of this album and related to the writing so much. Doing folklore/evermore next sounds like a great way to go, you'll get to see how her writing style has progressed.
(Remember going into those that many tracks are not told from her perspective, just enjoy the storytelling for what it is)

Can't wait to see you react to the others! Just a head's up, Folklore and Evermore are more fictions than autobiographic. Some songs touch to aspects of her life, but they are more story driven.

Begin Again is to this day top 3 sweetest songs Taylor has ever written. Such a gem, and vastly underrated even tho it was a country radio single.
For reference, imo the other two are Ours and Lover. Honorable mentions to Mary's Song, August and New Year's Day.

RED is very much a multi-muse album (in the top 3 of her albums with the most number of different romantic muses) but everything fits so well thematically that it can be interpreted more simply about 1 or 2 relationships and a journey through young adult heartbreak. Taylor has talked about how this is her first album about real adult heartbreak when she released the Taylor’s Version of RED. You can hear her experiment more & transition out of country which was very controversial when the og album was released in 2012: she was bombarded with misogynistic criticism of ‘being ungrateful’ to her country roots, and ‘she doesn’t know her place anymore’ which was repeated every time she reached new success regardless of genre

Yes she had to re-record the vocals and have producers/musicians re-create all the instrumentals, that’s why some of the songs sound slightly different because it’s hard to re-create the sounds identical to the original. You can definitely hear how much her voice has matured from when she recorded the originals. I.e, for red she was 21/22 yrs old when the original came out versus 31/32 for the re-records
