BR has a solid point! I initially didn't accept BR's take on Bigil. Now I am getting his clear intention. 12:57 Brilliant point by Kishen. While the rest are arguing to pass Bigil is _not_ an empowerment film as an _absolute truth_ and the makers were wrong in saying it, Kishen presents that empowerment is a personal thing. What's empowering to me, may not be to you, and vice versa. So the fair call is to say "not for me" instead of the makers were wrong to say that because as far as the marketing went, they hoped on getting it across as they desired, and hence they're aren't wrong for they get the benefit of doubt.
It's really happy to see you guys interacting with all the stuff with different perspective which really impressed and making responsibility to make better filming in future. That was a fun discussion!
Missed movies aren't film critics.. They are kind art film propaganda group... If there is any discussions on art films I bet missed movies must be called for
@@Randomguy-zv3tv The topic was cinema. But if you call missed movies you might get tons and loads of complaints on why they should not evaluate certain films... Not meaning that missed movies were wrong .. I think missed movies parameters of evaluating a film and their variables are far lesser than that of what kishore does... Simply... Kishore has much lineant approach on evaluation of films where missed movies evaluate things that appeal to them as art
imo,BR has much more clear cut answers than any person present in front of the camera,it proves his years of experience as a film critic.although,i did like vishal menon's choice of films, especially A1.no one would've expected that!
IN 2019 ..JIVI / HOUSE OWNER /BODHA YERI BUDI MARI / BAKRIT /K 13 / GAME OVER / MIGA MIGA AVASARAM / KOLAIGARAN / i think these are the most underatted best movies of 2019
Ashameera makes so much sense about Arjun Reddy & a lot of things. I can't believe BR & the other men who are so well versed with movies don't get the glorification aspect in AR.But they refuse to address it & continue with the 'flawed character' narrative. And no actress mentioned as worth more recognition(except a stray Sadhana). That says something about the state of actresses & female roles in south India.
@@girubhakart7107 Quick question. Just because you saw the one frame in the trailer that said 'dedicated to all women', did you really believe the movie was going to be entirely about women empowerment? See the difference between the trailer of NKP and Bigil and its focus on women. I think even with the dedication card, it was pretty clear that Bigil was still mostly going to be about Vijay. If you didn't get that, it proves that the way you're arguing right now is pretty narrow-minded and one-sided.
Nerkonda parvai is not a star film. Just look at the budget of these two movies. I dont think anybody would have thought that this movie will have womens empowerment as the centre plot before entering the theatre. Its just another vijay movie. Nerkonda parvai and bigil are totally different. Totally agree with BR. In mersal its some medical mafia, Here a womens football team.
Wow thalaivan br, ashameera, kishen das, moving images my all favourites❤️❤️nice to see a conflict on bigil and Arjun Reddy btw ashameera and BR...there is nothing called women empowerment in bigil and off course we know Arjun Reddy is flawed..
Great chat! Just sorry to say, Kishen Das looks an absolute lightweight (literally and figuratively) in this debate. He also seems to have not caught all the movies and is in more of an actor mode. No hatred though, like the guy but this was a strong feeling throughout the conversation.
Am I the only one or the rayappan arc in bigil had the potential to develop into a full fledged gangster tragedy Due to the entire women empowerment nobody is speaking about this plotline. I loved the idea that no matter what a violent man aspires to do or how much he wishes to cone out of the cycle of violence he invariably gets sucked into it Nobody even wishes to discuss it
For kishor's question, I must say one thing that...nowadays even good films doesn't run for such a long time like old movies did. It might be due to various reasons..like the improvements in other industries like television and online content..Now when a movie is released, with 2-3 months it comes in torrent..so people watch that way... May be that's why movies these days are promoted with the monetary figures than just number of days.
@@MovingImagesChannel Yh, that's something I too believe is really bad these days..( on what basis an ordinary man should trust a movie before they take ticket..) From my side, living here in goa or anywhere else outside my hometown in kerala, I feel it's really expensive to watch a movie (due to release of movies in multiplexes), when four of us (my family) goes for a movie it costs more than 1000 bucks, seeing the monetary relevance ,even being a filmholic, these days I'm enable to watch many movies from theatre and which boils down to the same question of which movie to watch. Due to this, I have missed several good films in theatre and sadly could watch many shitty movies in theatre. The monetary factor actually kills the essence of the movie, see even if the movie is a good flick, sometimes our inner thoughts doesn't allow it to be so since we still think we didn't get for what we have paid for just like any other commodity, which is really saddening.
While I generally don't think Rangan is very good, he is absolutely on point here. Others are getting confused. Any director can simply say their film is about xyz themes, but it has to actually show up on screen. Otherwise, you can simply ignore it. This is common sense. The other point he is right about is, the cinematography and other technical/cinematic aspects need not merely be subservient to the story. And they need not be 'invisible'. They are what make this artform unique. He makes this point in a very polite way. Among these 6 people, he is the only perspn who has made some sense. At least in this discussion. Also, I think Blue Sattai Maran could have been added to this, since they are anyway discussing Tamil movies.
Everytime i see @baradwajrangan saying that he liked bigil , I actually think of how worse he had thought about the film or how bad his expectations were before the release 😁✌️

Writing this comment after being into 23 min of this debate Being here after watching 100 great performances of the decade talk from film companion, in which all the possibilities of a healthy debate was cut down and with each one of them trying to bring it down when something started heating up. Here is something that i see and hear people trying to put forward there ideologies and trying to give the other people the clear idea of how they came into it. Through out these 23 min when the topic of women centric films and feminism came and you guys kept on debating with respect to the STAR movies that are marketed on that topic rather than giving out a perfect example of an ideal one i felt awkward . But at the right moment when kisan mentioned about UYARE, as an example, the malayali movie lover within me felt the height of happiness. (Still continuing the video)👍

Aashmeera is a bit annoying with her propaganda. She must understand if you want to take a good message to the common man, you can do it more easily with a movie like Bigil than NKP. Both women and men in my family loved the movie. They didn't like NKP because they didn't care for the female leads. But Atlee managed to connect with the audience. The way Aashmeera sees feminism and a common man sees feminism is different. Bigil won because it reasoned with the common man.
Valid opinion. But here is the thing though. You keep saying common man again and again and the word feminism. Asha is a common woman and with that has a bit more authority on feminism than most common men. Not saying men can't be feminists. Just talking about the common average here. So having a bit more authority on the subject she just expressed her opinions. No propaganda here afaik.

@@earlajay5616 Open ended endings arent new. Inception is one too. I feel the directors feel that the ending is not important. So it doesn't matter.

Every week there is a good film releasing in Malayalam
And here it's Kabir sing vs bigil
@@nishanthnandini We can't say every film is a good film but still there are good films released when compared to other cine industry

Nearly half an hour they discussed only about Bigil and Kabir singh.
Haven't watched the full video yet(still watching it now, couldn't resist commenting), but wished more time had been dedicated to films other than Bigil, even though I'm a fan of Vijay. Would have loved to see some more points from Kishor and Vishal, but otherwise the panel seems really sensible.
Also, missed thalaivan Raunaq in this panel.

Really glad to see moving images Kishore. And I totally resonate with BR
Thanks :)

As per your statement, except few in the video others are just people with opinions and not critics, excluding Kishore who isn't neither of em but leaning more towards 'art film propoganda' type.

Trust me kishore is really good at screenplay and dialogue correlations which he does for any films....

Great chat! Just sorry to say, Kishen Das looks an absolute lightweight (literally and figuratively) in this debate. He also seems to have not caught all the movies and is in more of an actor mode. No hatred though, like the guy but this was a strong feeling throughout the conversation.

Am I the only one or the rayappan arc in bigil had the potential to develop into a full fledged gangster tragedy
Due to the entire women empowerment nobody is speaking about this plotline.
I loved the idea that no matter what a violent man aspires to do or how much he wishes to cone out of the cycle of violence he invariably gets sucked into it
Nobody even wishes to discuss it
Stephen spillberg, Christopher Nolan, manirathnam, vetrimaran are discussing about good cinema

8:50 If someone gets offended by KABIR SINGH, he/she should also or even more by watching JOKER! if not that's perfect example of hypocrisy!.
Very true and it is a sad state of affairs. But my point was, does telling how much a movie grossed actually make me go watch it or not.

Exactly

Being here after watching 100 great performances of the decade talk from film companion, in which all the possibilities of a healthy debate was cut down and with each one of them trying to bring it down when something started heating up.
But at the right moment when kisan mentioned about UYARE, as an example, the malayali movie lover within me felt the height of happiness.

you guys should invite one individual from every movie industry background yes the whole talk will be in english so that everyone can understand! but this was 90% about bigil and kabir singh so many great movies super deluxe android kunjappan AK jalikattu Virus , Gully Boy super 30 tumbaad released last year!
