Clicked on this video as soon as I saw Prince, Kendrick Lamar, and Tupac in the same thumbnail. I've been waiting for someone to delve into the Kendrick Lamar and Prince connection, especially. You see: Prince is my all-time favorite artist, musician, entertainer, etc.; I've been his biggest fan since I was 11, I own every album, I know his entire discography from front to back, I know a lot of his unreleased material too. As for Kendrick Lamar, he became my favorite rapper of all time after Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers dropped. Funny enough, I actually discovered K. Dot through Prince, specifically a live performance I happened to come across on RUclips some time in 2015: it was of Prince playing with his all female band, Third Eye Girl, and the song was a lesser known deep cut only diehard Prince fans know about, called "What's My Name", only, it was modified to feature a rapper I'd never before seen or heard of, despite the fact that this same rapper, I'd soon find out, was already a household name, and his name was Kendrick Lamar. (Obviously, I wasn't paying too much attention to rap in the 2010's; I might as well had been living under a rock when it came to the genre). I'd come around soon enough though. It would take some years. I'd initially tried using DAMN. as a point of entry to Kendrick's catalog but I didn't quite take to that album. Fast forward to 2022 tho, and Mr. Morale is all I'm listening to for months on end, then I finally, eventually make my way to Kendrick's back catalog and now he's my favorite rapper of all time. Now, when it comes to Tupac, I grew up with his music, as my father and brother were his biggest fans and would blast his music in the house, but I never actually listened to him on my own and still don't to this day, however, I went to see Tupac: Resurrection when it hit theaters in the early 2000's and learned so much about him that I didn't know, such as his love and respect for Prince, which made me see Tupac in a different light and appreciate and understand him more than I ever did. Anyways, all this is to say, this is a topic I've been low-key waiting on someone to expound upon. How can this not be good? You've got yourself a sub just based on the topic alone. Thank you for this, and I'll probably edit in some afterthoughts on this comment once I'm done watching the video. Props to you. ✊
